Gareth Bale gives his Fantasy owners some belated festive cheer with a brace at Carrow Road. In a gameweek that promised so much but ultimately delivered little, Michel Vorm concedes a rare goal at home, while even armband favourite Robin Van Persie forgets to read the script and returns no more than a couple of points. Let’s get this over with…

Gareth Bale
The Welshman proved the difference in Spurs’ trip to Norwich last night, grabbing both goals in his side’s 2-0 win to at least put some sort of positive spin on this gameweek. Bale has now equalled his goals haul (7) from last term in just seventeen appearances and has already doubled the number of assists from 3 to 6. It’s near certain he’ll grab the maximum bonus too, taking him to 13; he was awarded 12 last time round. With every passing gameweek, he’s continued to rack up the points with ridiculous ease and has either scored or assisted in seven of his last eight appearances. Even at 8.9, he seems an absolute bargain but with the double gameweek on the horizon, his price seems set to rise for the foreseeable future.

Emmanuel Adebayor
Once again, the on-loan Man City player got amongst the points for Harry Redknapp’s side. Adebayor’s dancing feet in the home side’s box brilliantly set up Bale for the Spurs opener and his assist continues one of the most consistent runs of Fantasy form this season; the Togo international has now scored, assisted or returned bonus in twelve of his fifteen games this term. In spite of this, he’s still only owned by 18% of Fantasy managers, 6% less than Luis Suarez, but with West Brom, Everton, Wolves and Wigan all at the Lane in the next five gameweeks, plenty more suitors will be jumping aboard the bandwagon, particularly in light of the afore-mentioned double gameweek.

Rafael Van der Vaart
The news of his inclusion in the starting XI would have given his Fantasy owners plenty optimism but the Dutchman once again failed to deliver. While Bale and Adebayor continue to produce the goods, Van der Vaart has just a single assist to his name since the end of gameweek 10. Down to just 7% ownership, he could prove a decent differential in the upcoming double gameweek but priced at 9.7, there’s no doubt he’s struggling to justify his place in Fantasy teams, particularly with cheaper and more consistent options available in the Tottenham first-team.

Steven Fletcher
While many of us waited fruitlessly on the usual double-figure points haul from Robin Van Persie, it was the Wolves forward who stole the limelight by grabbing a crucial equaliser. Fletcher was fielded as a lone forward and his Emirates goal – his seventh of the campaign – again highlighted his tendency to produce the goods when least expected. The Scotsman has also netted against the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Man United but with Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool to come again in the next five, Wolves will be reliant on him to continue a run of form that has harvested 4 goals in his last 5 games.

Stephen Hunt
The Irishman seems to have stepped up his game of late. Hunt, having provided the ball for Fletcher’s goal, has now scored or assisted in each of his last three games. Given that he had previously failed to produce attacking points in back-to-back gameweeks prior to this run, it’s an indication of his displays and particularly pleasing for Mick McCarthy, given that Jamie O’Hara is currently sidelined with a hernia injury. With Bolton having lost eight of their nine games at home, a visit to the Reebok on New Year’s Eve will hold no fear for the Midlanders.

Yossi Benayoun
Arsene Wenger made four changes to the side that started against Aston Villa, with Benayoun replacing Aaron Ramsey in midfield. The Israeli – in his first start of the season- followed up his late winner at Villa Park with an early assist for Gervinho’s opener, lasting just over an hour before being replaced. With Gervinho’s departure to the African Cup of Nations just around the corner, Benayoun could continue to gather the game time as Wenger looks to rest and rotate over a hectic winter period. It’s perhaps a worry for Ramsey’s Fantasy owners, though; yesterday was the first time the Welshman didn’t make the starting XI, when available.

Wayne Routledge
Over the last few weeks, he seems to have made a strong case for a permanent role on the right wing for Swansea. Nathan Dyer has suffered through loss of form and injury of late, though a comparison of the pair’s stats is revealing. Dyer started the first thirteen games of the season and failed to pick up a single assist; Routledge, on the other hand, has provided 3 assists in his last five appearances, including the ball for Danny Graham’s opener against QPR yesterday evening.

Jamie Mackie
He’s been flying under the radar of late since recovering from a long-term absence due to a broken leg. While Heidar Helguson has hogged most of the headlines, Mackie has grabbed 2 goals and 2 assists, spread over four of his last seven games. Yesterday’s leveller saw him score in back-to-back matches and means he is only the second away player, aside from Javier Hernandez, to beat Michel Vorm at the Liberty Stadium.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

certain that bale will get injury within 2 weeks. So far I have managed to get 18 players injured or benched in 1 and half seasons. (not personally obviously). Within a few weeks of bringing them in.

    BETFAIR SUSPEND CHRISTMAS MARKET

There were bizarre scenes in Betfair's in-running market for Voler La Vadette's win in the woodiesdiy.com Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown.

A total of £1,642,094 was matched at 28-1 on the winner, who went off the 13-8 favourite on-course and won very easily.

Even more strangely, the Betfair graph showed over £21million was offered to back Colm Murphy's mare at those odds, even though she was always in contention and looked the obvious winner even before the final flight.

This meant one layer could potentially have lost £600million in only a few minutes if all of the money had been matched.

Betfair suspended the market in order to investigate, with many of the exchange's members in a state of shock on the website's forum.

    Posted earlier: http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2011/Dec/sir-alex-hopes-jones-and-smalling-will-be-back-for-blackburn-game.aspx

Jones and Smalling fit for Blackburn. No Evans. No Rio. Rafael might return.

What do you think that means?

    A) Rafael plays, Rooney up front:
    -------------------------de Gea-----------------------
    -----Rafael--Jones Smalling Evra--------------
    -----Valencia Carrick Giggs/Gibson Nani--
    ------------------Rooney-----Hernandez----------

    -------------------------de Gea-----------------------
    -----Rafael--Jones Smalling Evra-------------
    -----Valencia Carrick Rooney Nani----------
    -----Welbeck/Berbatov-----Hernandez------

    C) Rafel doesn't play, Rooney up front:
    -------------------------de Gea-----------------------
    -----Valencia---Jones Smalling Evra---------
    -----Park Carrick Giggs/Gibson Nani-------
    ------------------Rooney-----Hernandez---------

When Welbeck plays with Rooney, he seems to drift round more leaving Rooney further forward, although it's fairly fluid. Rooneys returns are better with Welbz rather than Hernandez though.

Yeah agreed, Rooney is often stuck feeding Chico. Have heard a fair few United fans saying the team plays worse with Chico even though he's a brilliant poacher.

I doubt they were saying that at the end of last season when he was in the team that won the league and got to the CL final. This season's Hernandez hasn't really had a run in the team, so has been inconsistent. Welbeck does offer more of an all round game though, that's true, but his finishing or movement in the box aren't a patch on Hernadez's.

Well yeah, that's basically what they were saying. Not disrespect to Chico but simply saying that by focusing supply on Chico who's a natural born goalscorer, the team was less rounded and play was less creative. Compared to the terrific tiki-taka-ish start to the season you had playing 4-3-3 with Young, Welbeck and Rooney up front if I recall correctly, 4-4-Rooney-Hernandez seems a little flat. The game is not about goal difference though, it's about winning, so it's a compromise.

With United, there was a pre-Citeh-humping style of play, and a post-Citeh-humping style of play.

We all liked watching the former, but the latter is getting the points.

Welllll, the team at the start of the season wasn't 433, it was 442, but Cleverley and Anderson were more suited to the tika taka style. United have had another ridiculous string of injuries (notice the lack of complaining about it though) so it's been a case of plugging holes as they've appeared. I don't think fergies first XI from a fully fit squad has played, or will play this season.

Yeah, fair enough, the current squad is a very functional product of injuries and learning from Citygate. Can't wait for Cleverley/Anderson to return though, been differentials on my mind all season.

    Sorensen (Vorm)
    Vermaelen Jones Enrique (Brown NTaylor)
    Bale Silva Nani Walters (Gomez)
    Adebayor Sturridge RVP

If I don't make any transfers today I will probably lose it due to unable to make any next GW.

    Team for this week:

    Hennessey BOL (A)

    Hibbert WBA (A) / Assou-Ekotto SWA (A) / Jones BLA (H)

    Nani BLA (H) / Drenthe WBA (A) / Bale SWA (A) / Silva SUN (A)

    Van Persie QPR (H) / Adebayor SWA (A) / Sturridge AVL (H)

    Bench: Vorm,Simpson, Evans, Dyer

    1FT

Worth getting rid of evans for a cheapie? only just got him for his zero points but could get a replacement to play instead of hibbert, was thinking shotton or wilkinson but unsure whether they will start, no short term options for 4.7m standing out to me...

I brought him in last week, just as a stop gap before the double with the intention of taking him out for adebayor. However, i would love to have a fit VDV in for the double instead so if thats a possibility then i may just leave Morrison there.

That's pretty much the only reason Morison hasn't risen more; just too many good forward options. I have the same frontline and really like Morison but I just can't see where I can fit him in. Come the January WC I might go RVP, Aguero, Morison, but I'm not sure yet, gonna see how Sturridge gets on. Now that I've got him in inevitably he won't score for weeks.

Do you think i should NOT transfer Evans out? Here is my team for Gameweek 19:

    Ruddy
    Evans, Kompany, J Enrique
    Nani, Silva, Bale, Drenthe
    RVP, Ba, Adebayor

Subs: Vorm, Sinclair, Simpson, Wes Brown

I have 0.5 million in bank and 1 FT.

The trouble is I cannot find a decent replacement, who is not a rotation risk, for Evans that is 5m or less.

I heard the Stoke fan saying in previous pages that Shotton won't play but I'm not sure whats led him to that conclusion other than a hunch.

I'll be more worried about Shotton not playing when I actually see him dropped. But for now he's played 5 consecutive games and done well so the signs are looking good

if cup draws not released today i would regard this as a fpl fail. this is a strategy game and with the dgw coming up timing of bringing in certain players is key, this is also effects price risers etc. getting an idea of new cup opponent players is part of the strategy.
having said that i suppose its also just a game and who gives a flying ....
