Gareth Bale is delighted with his new central role for Spurs. Yaya Toure is looking to delay his departure to the African Cup of Nations, while Phil Jones is hopeful of a return against old club Blackburn on Saturday:

Granted a more central role by Harry Redknapp in Spurs’ 2-0 win over Norwich on Tuesday evening, Gareth Bale ran amok with the freedom afforded by the newly-implemented 4-2-3-1 system. Bale’s Fantasy season continues to go from strength to strength and as the transfers-in continue to snowball ahead of a trip to Swansea, the Welshman admitted Redknapp’s change of formation is allowing him to flourish further:

It’s exciting, definitely. I’ve never really thought about playing through the middle but since people have been double marking and triple marking me, it is something I have had to bring into my game. It is great to be in there and I am enjoying it. I am improving all the time, especially in the free role. For a little while I’ve been coming off the line and getting in spaces. It is important I mix my game up and try and help the team rather than be stood out on the wing marked out of the game sometimes.

Fantasy owners of Phil Jones were given cause for optimism today, with the news that he expects to be ready to face former club Blackburn this weekend. Jones missed out in the 5-0 win over Wigan due to illness but according to the club’s official website, he’s on course for a return at Old Trafford this New Year’s Eve.

Yaya Toure has admitted he is hoping to put back his departure date for the upcoming African Cup of Nations tournament for as long as possible. The Ivory Coast squad is due to meet up on the 11th January but with Man City facing a hectic fixture schedule, Toure is hoping he can stay here until the 17th, meaning he would still be available for the club’s next three league games, including the gameweek 21 clash with Wigan.

As Liverpool’s struggles to impress as an attacking force continue, with just 5 goals in their last six games, Kenny Dalglish has heaped praise on the recent displays of Maxi Rodriguez. While new boys Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson have a single goal and no assists between them all season, the Argentine has netted twice in four starts and has now featured in the Liverpool first XI in three of the last four gameweeks.

Darren Bent is in contention to be available for Aston Villa’s trip to Chelsea on New Year’s Eve. The forward has missed the last three games due to a thigh strain but returned to training today ahead of the Stamford Bridge clash. Villa confirmed via their twitter feed this afternoon that Emile Heskey has been ruled out with an Achilles problem.

Alan Pardew confirmed yesterday that Demba Ba had picked up a knee knock ahead of Friday’s trip to Liverpool, much to the consternation of the Newcastle forward’s Fantasy owners. Reports today, however, suggest Ba is now expected to be fit for the Anfield clash. Having netted against the likes of Man United and Spurs, in addition to picking up an assist at Man City, Ba will hold no fear going into the Merseyside showdown, with 6 goals in his last six games indicative of his current form.

The injuries continue to rack up for Blackburn ahead of their trip to Old Trafford. Steve Kean’s selection options seem to be lessening by the day, with the news that both David Dunn and Junior Hoilett are battling to overcome hamstring injuries for the New Year’s Eve encounter. Kean also admitted Martin Olsson has only an “outside chance“ of featuring- the Swede is also suffering from a hamstring injury. With the likes of Scott Dann, Gael Givet and Ryan Nelsen all unavailable and Paul Robinson a doubt, Rovers will be fearing a repeat of last season’s 7-0 drubbing all over again.

Wolves are anxiously awaiting scans on Ronald Zubar’s knee problem after the defender was subbed off just after half-time in Tuesday’s draw at Arsenal. Zubar has not long returned from a six-month lay off and featured for the first time this season in gameweek 13. Mick McCarthy is also expecting to find out if the club’s appeal for the FA to rescind Nenad Milijas’ red card, picked up in the same match, will be rescinded.

Marouane Fellaini remains a doubt for Everton ahead of this weekend’s trip to West Brom. The Belgian is struggling to overcome an abductor strain that ruled him out of the trip to Sunderland, though David Moyes played his cards close to his chest, admitting he didn’t think the problem was “too bad”.

Robert Huth, Peter Crouch and Glenn Whelan are all injury worries for Tony Pulis ahead of Stoke’s home game with Wigan. The latter pair have missed the Potters’ last two games but Huth has now added to Pulis’ problems, after picking up a knock in the goalless draw against Aston Villa earlier this week. The Stoke boss clearly won’t be taking any risks, as he admitted:

We will check on all three of them over the next couple of days to see whether they will make it in time for Saturday. They are all key figures, but if they are not quite right, then it is important not to rush them back with so many games coming up. That is what it is all about at this time of the year, using the strength and depth of the squad when the games come thick and fast.

Right then...On paper it seems I have a good team but alas I need to drop ye ol' RMT on you guys to get another perspective. I have 2 injury doubts and a plan or two going forward so here goes:

    Vorm, Krul
    Evans, Naylor, Enrique, Brown, Ward
    Bale, Nani, Silva, Walters, Brunt
    RVP, Ade, Sturridge

    0.0 in the bank

Now...was planning to downgrade either Walters or Brunt for Moses or Surman.
Then change Ward out for BAE. those injuries to Evans and Naylor suggest I move them out.

So what do you guys reckon I do with this team and should I bother with the rest of my team if I can maybe just do Evans to Simpson and Naylor to Shotton?

Any advice, tip, suggestion will be great...Thanks!

I'm in a similar position re. Naylor and Evans, and I'm holding onto Evans for now since he'll be back in a week or two, want to give him a chance since he'll be a bit of a bargain if he carries on starting. Not sure what the situation is with Naylor, but I'd recommend downgradig Brunt to bring in BAE like you suggest in time for the DGW, one way or the other! (I'd steer clear of Shotton though, Stoke fans on here say his place is less than secure)

I see Brunt is about to rise in value...like what's up with that? makes me think I'm missing something...to be fair...both Brunt and Walters have had similar scoring the last little while...which makes that choice even harder. But you're not the first one to have mentioned that to me so....hmmm....

i'm not sure giggs ever plays on the wings anymore. i think the key man is park, if ferguson feels like he needs to reward him with another start then either valencia needs to play rb, or him or nani would need to drop out.
given past precedent i don't think ferguson has any loyalty to park and will happily bench him

A few people on the previous page seemed to doubt Drenthe's regular starting role - what do people think about Osman as an alternative? I feel the time has come to get rid of Larsson, and may as well take advantage of the DGW. Which way to go, though? (3 Spurs players already taken care of)

I'd not doubt his starting role if fit. He got injured so may have tainted peoples views of him a little.

Moyes knows he's one of the few real attacking/creative players available. Can't see him being rested too much - well, as little as possible.

Thoughts on Hibbert guys? 4.8 makes him pretty much a bargain but i'v never had him in my team since i'v played this game over the past 4 years. No problem of being benched/DGW ahead, I need to get rid of Wilkinson.

The only problem is that Everton are extremely likely to concede against Spurs, meaning he has limited DGW value and is therefore just an average defender for a side that usually concedes.

If you do doubt RVP will play against QPR (and I don't) then that's what the vice-captain button is for....you can choose who will pick up the armband if your hunch is right. It's a fairly safe option, as if RVP is on the bench they will only bring him on if they really need a goal with at least half and hour to go - they won't do a Dzeko and give him 2 minutes with the team already 3-0 up!

I believe or RVP will start but also that if he doesnt arsenal will bring him for at least 20 mins where he could still get a goal or two

Issue is, if he doesn't start then it's pretty likely that they WILL need him to come on. I'm captaining him personally, don't want to take the risk.

I just realised that didn't make much sense; I meant, I don't want to take the risk that he starts and does well.

Already in the last 3 or 4 games he has struggled to get a shot on target. Having the likes of Bale, Ade,Rooney, Aguero all outperform him in chances to score. Also the fixtures will get poor now as well.
Its a big risk, but might not be a bad one.

Both of them probably wont play during the same game-being guys in a similar position. And do you think they will improve from current form, where they cant beat crappy teams(and if they do beat them than scores are very low). Now that fixtures will get harder and they will have to play against stronger teams?

Yeah, well rest will probably be there for Roon and Aguero as well. I personally like to play the fixtures. So dont see Arsenal getting many goals against Ful, Swa or MUN. Maybe I will get him back for GW 23 with my wildcard.

My plan going into this week had been Shawcross and Ba ➡ Ade and either Shotton or McCauley(would prefer Shotton for fixtures until WC but not sure how much he will play)

Other option would be to keep Shawcross for his fixtures and use Vermaelen instead to bring in BAE instead of Shotton/Mc.

Big question for me right now is whether Shotton will play.

Team linked and welcome any suggestions.

Silva to Demps, Jevans to Walker? 2FT. I think I am set on it. I could get Valencia but I want a player who won't be rotated. And I love the fixtures long term.

        Silva fixtures:

sun rested probably, LIV, wig, TOT, wig and the FA cup with Utd in between. He is great at home and check his home games. Also City aren't flying atm. 2 days between the sun and LIV game worries me. He was benched and before and he was my captain too. In neither of this upcoming weeks he won't be a captain so I can kope with it.

Dempsey is 2m cheaper and have: nor, ARS, bla, NEW, WBA and will rise in price in meant time. Silva won't he could fall even, has negative NTI in mean time. Well Demps and 2m spare will do better than Silva in those fixtures IMO.

P.S. Lets not forget the MON factor here

i honestly cant see Vorm keeping a clean sheet against Spurs, their def is pretty decimated and Caulker ineligible too. likewise i'll be very surprised if L'pool keep a clean sheet against Newcastle. *i have a funny feeling Norwich will keep a clean sheet for the first time this season this week*

I'm not so sure about that. i dont think Harry trusts kaboul any more after that stupid sending off. Gallas is number one for me, alongside King, though its likely all 3 may be used equally over the next few games with the fixture pile-up
