You might have noticed that Fantasy Football Scout has continued to grow this season. Hopefully, this will continue into next term and, with ideas and plans forming week on week, I’ve decided it’s time to look to add at least one new member to our team of contributors.

We’re looking for a writer to join Sir Paulos’ editorial team – someone who can commit their time and enthusiasm to the site, take charge of a section and make it there own. Hopefully someone who can grow with us and help us into another exciting season of development.

Ideally we’re looking for someone who…

  • Has a knowledge and passion, not just for Premier League football but for Fantasy Football. You will have opinions and be able to back them up with enthusiasm.
  • Is willing to volunteer and contribute their passion and their time to become an invaluable member of a growing editorial team.
  • Has good, strong writing skills with the ability to produce tight, entertaining editorial – in line with the house style, but with a twist of personality.
  • Is available to contribute opinions throughout the week and at weekends, helping to shape decisions and editorial direction within the Scout team.
  • Is available to contribute articles on a weekly basis and be prepared to take charge of an established section of the site, making it their own and working in collaboration with the team to grow it further.

If you feel you’d like to put yourself forward for this role, please send a short summary of yourself, along with a sample of your writing to writers@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

If you don’t have any samples of writing available, please supply a Watchlist article – of a player of your choice, written to our template, an example of which can be found here.

This process is typically lengthy and it’s likely that Sir Paulos and I will be looking at applications from now right through until the end of January. Please be patient with us, we will try to get back to applicants as soon as possible and we will keep you up to date with the process via the site as we go.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Because the match is boring otherwise. Australia will win by an innings the way it's going. Pathetic effort tbh.

Not for me. Studge is staying right where he is. In my team. Don't forget, he's aiming to get in capello's euro2012 squad so he'll be battling extra hard for a place in that squad. I can see him doing really well second half of season and getting bag fulls of goals. The lad is quality.

Yeah, there are a lot of factors at work. Just to clarify, I do think Sturridge is an excellent player, it's just that when I see Newcastle have scored, I look at the score sheet expecting to see a goal or assist for Ba. When Chelsea score, I look at the scoresheet not really having a clue on who it might be. Chelsea goals and assists are likely to be spread around the team.

Thats a good point Epic...I just feel that chelsea are gonna start stringing a few results together now and i cant see sturridge not getting chances. Also consider this... sturridge is being played out of position on the wing and has still scored 9 goals this season with 3 assists. Ba is playing up front in his natural position and has only 5 more goals than studge with the same amount of assists.

Agree with you there. From my pov I have a few weeks after wildcard with Sturridge knowing that I can move to Ba if I want to. The next few weeks could define Sturridges season

4-4-2 with VDV on the right. They looked tired and without much composure. I reckon things will get better with a bit of rest and maybe Lennon back for the Everton game. Ade didn't get many chances, hopefully he will be up for it in the next match

Two potential WC options. Opinions on either works,

    vorm schwarzer
    caulker simpson kompany shotton evans
    silva moses nani bale walters
    studge aguero rvp

    vorm schwarzer
    Enrique Komp simpson shotton evans
    silva bale nani moses dyer
    studge aguero rvp

So it ends up being caulker and walters vs. Enrique and dyer. Also factor that I will be wildcarding before week 24
Starting to seriously think the first team is better

Senderos over Kelly? Kelly seems nailed on and cheaper, now. Defense overal is similar to mine, but I would want something from stoke

Sess is obviously on fire, but look how bad his fixtures are after GW 24 (assuming you WC then)

interesting that you're fine with giving up Bale and Keeping Ade. I might reduce Ade to Atudge and get Bale in for Walter/Sess if it were me. why Ade, there?

My reasoning was that looking at Spurs pretty tough fixtures after GW 24, which one of Ade or Bale did I want to keep? To me, although Bale has been on fire recently, he has not scored any significant points against better opposition, all his hauls have been against mid to lower table sides. Ade on the other hand has scored OK against the good teams. I've been caught out too with bench players not playing, that's why I wanted Sendoras over Kelly, but that may change if Kelly does keep getting starts. Stoke don't seem to be getting the CS they were earlier though? Sess, may have to look at that again in light of your point about his fixtures - may be similar to my argument against Bale after a quick look just now. Thanks for the feedback!

This stuff is really hard, the teams seem pretty strong with information as we know it know ... I just have stylistic preferences > Rooney over Aguero (less rotation, more reliance), Adebayor to a ~7.0 or cheaper to upgrade a defender (as I like 3 solid def's).

Also, Ade's fixtures get real dicey at/after week 22 - and I think he's inconsistent poo (*not backed by stats*)

I just think that you, often, get what you pay for. Now, the double Newcastle hurt me earlier (in my mini, opponent had 'em), but if you want reliable players - on good teams - who present assist/goal threats ... you need to pony up.

Think of it this way: a clean sheet = goal by forward. People often talk about paying 8.0 for Baines (which I think is lunacy, this year) because he's "like a cheap midfielder", but what about 6.0 Kompany or PJones (I had him cheap)?

I had my first, in memory, clean sweep with clean sheets a couple weeks back: 5 def's and GK. ~30 points, there.

Fascinating stuff. I guess I always gravitated towards the cheaper defenders because it seems like they have more of a chance of making up that value difference in cash than forwards do. A cheap defender, when rotated with others properly, can score as much as the top defenders, where you don't have that option with forwards and mids. That's why I've gone with Enrique and 4 cheapies all year, but I can't argue with your results.

3 defenders over five though...wow. I may try it next year, but that seems really tough.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's the "right way" to do it ... just the way that works for my comfort zone. The light defense definitely has that advantage, though.

I do typically shift that concept during the year - I start with a cheap defense, shift to more expensive during the holidays, than will likely shift back to cheaps by the end. [But 'cheap' for me is usually two 5.0's]

It's all based on a wacky theory that defenses need to gel to be effective, so they take time to boot up and need to stay relatively stable. That stability is perfect for the rotation-heavy holidays. Then I get desperate to chase points near the end with offense, when the results get all screwy (say, when teams are solidly mid-table or have already 'won').

Frankly, it's all darts in the dark, y'know? 😉

    Current WC defence is Enrique Senderos Caulker looks a little weak so am not sure what to do with these last 2 positions for the team;
    A. Valencia, Evans and Richards - playing Enrique/Richards/Evans most weeks
    B. Shotton, Evans and Nani - playing Enrique/Evans most weeks and rotating Caulker/Senderos/Shotton
    C. Nani, Williamson and Shotton - playing Enrique each week and rotating Senderos, Caulker, Shotton and Williamson for 2 positions

Shotton and nani imo. Valencia isn't nailed on although he should be for the next 2 or 3 weeks. Richards is injury prone and Jafa won't be happy with you getting an expensive defender 😉

True true, I don't even know why I am so tempted.
A defence of Enrique Caulker Shotton Williamson and Senderos seems very cheap, but they rotate very nicely and it's not like Fulham Swansea Stoke and Newcastle are poor defensively.

If i wasn't planning on bringing jonesey back in i would go for that one myself but i already have wazza n nani. And really want jones back. For me, lindegaard is the more confident keeper at the moment and its a tricky one for SAF this. Does he stick with de gea who's confidence is shot to pieces or does he go with lindegaard who has been consistently brilliant? I know for a fact de gea will be a world class keeper for us, He just hasnt come to terms with the cut n thrust of prem football just yet. It will come. Yes, get lindegaard in but vorm should still be your number 1 as i think fergie will continue to rotate.

The plan is basically to start Lindergaard as number 1, because when he doesn't play, Vorm will automatcally come in for him anyway. But yeah you've got me thinking actually. I may want 3 Man Utd outfield players, or at least have the opportunity to easily have 3 at any point without needing to mess about with my keepers. So I will probably give this idea a miss.

        Cheers.

Actually quite steady but unspectacular points, doesn't score as much as you expect he should but that's because he's used to hold the ball up and set up mids, and hence gets fair amount of assists. I will trade him for Aguero soon. And wait on the second DGW match - that's the other thing about Ade - you can't predict when he'll score.

Steady with his 2 pointers surely. Most of his assists this season have been fairly lucky TBH involving the skill of the goal-scorer.

Lol yes it's a miracle more of us haven't triggered the WC button prematurely!

I'm a big believer in having a full squad and took a few hits over Christmas to insure myself against rotation. By GW22 though I think the rotation will have settled down and I may permit myself a 5th def and 5th mid.

            Sounds like a plan!

Also could be a good time to look at some early transfers, if any. (By 21 Jan, we should have most signings.)

Exactly, that's why I'm waiting, plus good TOT/EVE fiztures in GW21. You would expect most signings by 21st but some of these big ones run right to the deadline - my alternative is to stick it out through MUN-ARS and MCI-TOT hoping for big scores, and take the final WC.

Something about him being more consistent? My main rival missed the deadline but had Bale captain at Swansea the week before anyway! Fuming.

You're sitting pretty there, Hisko. Wait for gwk 23 when you'll probably want to consider Aguero with City's better fixtures.

Your only concerns are the second gk (Ruddy) to Vorm; Shotton and Surman's starts and the situation with Evans.

He's a winger and played class when moved further forward from his temporary right back spot against Blackburn.. If there's a fit rightback then Valencia will play on the wing. Young will be out injured for a month or more. Definitely.

Leave Nani. He'll outscore Tony V most weeks.

You need to hold fire with your w/c. If Evans comes back in, there is no need for Evra.

Start looking at back up for Vorm and see who rotates well with him.
