The Sunderland revival brings their Fantasy assets to the fore, with Stephane Sessegnon looking particularly ripe for investment. Yaya Toure helps Man City dismantle a sorry Liverpool, while Spurs make a slow start to their double gameweek, thanks to a stubborn West Brom.

Yaya Toure
There’s no doubt the Ivorian’s imminent departure to the African Cup of Nations is a huge blow for Man City and his performance last night against Liverpool served a reminder of just what Toure brings to Roberto Mancini’s side. Post-match, the Italian admitted the player was “irreplaceable“ as Toure’s guile and craft, combined with dynamic running from start to finish, helped him to a goal and assist against a lacklustre Liverpool. Pre-bonus, he’s already on 11 points, his best haul of the season. In terms of “value”, he is neck and neck with David Silva on 11.2, having returned 85 points from a price of 7.6.

David Silva
Without a single assist in his last five appearances, some of Silva’s Fantasy owners were getting restless prior to last night’s performance. With City having failed to score in their last couple of matches and perhaps with the double gameweek in mind, the previous three gameweeks had seen plenty transfer the little Spaniard out but Silva returned to form, with a couple of assists helping the league leaders get back to winning ways. City’s fixtures over the next couple of months look particularly enticing and with the winter wildcard in play, he’ll no doubt be prone to plenty more investment, adding to his current 43.4% ownership, easily the most popular player in the game.

Gareth Bale
While Tottenham failed to return the points hauls many of us had anticipated, the Welshman got his double gameweek off to a reasonable start with an assist for Jermain Defoe’s only goal. Bale has now provided an assist in each of his last four home appearances and looks a good shout for a share of the bonus, which is more than can be said for Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo international had a poor night, though there’s still reason for optimism if he’s paired with Defoe again for next week’s clash with Everton; the pair had started five games together prior to last night, with Adebayor bagging 5 goals, including a couple of braces.

Stephane Sessegnon
Here’s a damning stat for Steve Bruce- Sunderland have score more goals in their last two away games under Martin O’Neill than they did in all seven on the road under the previous regime. Sessegnon again stepped up for the Black Cats and looks a different Fantasy prospect altogether since Bruce’s departure- a goal and assist at the DW Stadium means he has returned attacking points in each of his last four appearances as the Wearsiders surge up the table. The Sunderland players have spoken of a renewed self-belief and a look at Sessegnon’s game time perhaps explains why- he has played every minute of O’Neill’s six-match tenure, whereas under Bruce, the highest number of consecutive ninety minute appearances he mustered was three. With Swansea and Norwich to come at home after a tricky trip to Liverpool, he’ll have no shortage of Fantasy investors over the next few weeks as wildcards come into play.

David Vaughan
Another beneficiary of the O’Neill effect, Vaughan has started all six of the new manager’s games in charge- his longest run in the first XI prior to this was three matches. A goal and assist against Wigan is indicative of his flourishing form within the Sunderland side and he has now netted twice since Bruce left- he had previously failed to score all season.

James McClean
Afforded his first start against Man City last week, the winger picked up 3 bonus points and O’Neill’s decision to keep him in the first XI was vindicated at Wigan. McClean grabbed a goal in the 4-1 rout and priced at just 4.5, is a potential bargain right now, given his side’s buoyant form. It’s perhaps debatable if he’ll keep that first-team place once Sunderland have a clean bill of health but McClean – who had previously been granted 47 minutes in the first 14 gameweeks by Bruce- has demonstrated he’s more than capable of producing.

Hugo Rodallega
The Columbian continued his recent impressive form, despite Wigan’s home thrashing. Rodallega’s goal denied the Black Cats a second consecutive clean sheet and adds to his couple of assists in the previous game at Stoke. The Latics have a strong set of fixtures on the horizon from gameweek 24 onwards, though, (EVA, bol, AVL, SWA, nor, WBA) and Rodallega could continue to prosper if his side can rediscover the recent form that had seen them draw with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, in addition to picking up a point at the Britannia. Victor Moses’ owners take note, though; the winger was benched for the first time this season, though an injury to Albert Crusat saw him subbed on just before half-time

What do we think is the earliest Ba will return from the ACON, if his team doesn't make it past the next stage?

Newcastle have a decent run from GW24, or if he's not back, also from GW26 when I expect all players will be back?

If there's a chance he'll be back for the VILLA game, he could be a solid pick as the 3rd forward.

I like the 5 man midfield! Shotton & Kelly are better options than Gabbidon by far. Morison or Fletcher are good cheap strikers to play when the fixtures suit. Think you're on the right lines to a good side.

    repost

ok folks, I did manage to get online whilst I was away, but it’s been a bad couple of weeks, though I’m the only person that seemed to captain a Spurs player or make any DGW related transfers, so I’m still hopeful.

Am struggling to decide what to do for this week (do not really want to wc just yet)

    Friedel

    BAE, Raylor, Jones

    Nani (c) Bale, Silva, Donovan

    RvP, Sturridge, Ba

    Subs: Vorm, Tiote, Brown, McAuley

1 FT and 0.9 in the bank.

I think I need to replace Ba, but I don’t know if he leaves before or after this game. Am genuinely stumped for what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm afraid I don't really know when Ba leaves...but Yakubu would be a great replacement. If Ba doesn't leave though I'd be tempted to save a transfer unless you're wildcarding next week.

Yeah think I'm waiting as well for now...although if I have a bad DGW then it'll be tough not to play it.

Mario could be a very nice punt, if there is a time for punts it is now! My bro took a punt on Mackie which I thought was incredibly brave, could've been a few goals in that promotion derby.

Yakubu is just amazing though, I'll be investing in him come the WC I think.

Yak has served me well in the past, may wc him in as well, frees up some money elsewhere (Yak, RvP and Ageuro looks like a good wc strikeforce to me), and Mario is not nailed on (hasn't played in last 2 gws, but if Ba isn't available for QPR, looks tempting to get him v Wigan)

Ba is meant to be available for the QPR game as far as I know so keep him for that then look at Sturridge/Yakubu/Crouch/Agbonlahor.

Your keepers are ideal although you won’t be rotating them that much since Friedel is such a good selection so maybe scale down Vorm for Mignolet/Schwarzer/Lindegaard/Sorensen.

Brown and McAuley are good cheap options. Not sure about Raylor anymore. Maybe he has had his best part of the season now. Caulker/Shotton/Kelly are good cheap alternatives.

Tiote is not gonna get many point. McLean of Sunderland is looking like a great prospect.

Was well happy with my team before the DGW, was up to circa 15k before making three transfers for the DGW those being Shawcross/Walters/Rooney for Hiobbert/VDV/Adebayor....

Q is, should I wildcard my original players back in, or stick with what I have for now? Spurs-Wolves appeals for the holy trinity, but shit scared Rooney will make me pay for selling him vs Bolton, seeing as I started with him I don't want that to happen! Not sure I trust Adebayor either, so basically who will score best next week Rooney and Walters or Ade and VDV?

We should have Good Friday (6th April) and Easter Monday (9th April) off in work as they are bank holidays.

The question now is to maximise my leave coverage for the DBHW (double bank holiday weekend) do I...

    A) book off Monday 2nd – Thursday 5th April (4.0 days leave)?
    B) book off Tuesday 10th – Friday 13th April (4.0 days leave)?
    C) book off Monday 2nd - Friday 13th April (9.0 days leave) and probably miss out on a 2 week summer holiday as it's due a price rise from 10.0 days leave.

not sure on that, Aguero was a new arrival into the country this summer. He's had a very good start. For me he can only get better.

Jones is worth the money yes!

            best defence is;

            Vermaelen/P Jones/V Kompany/K Walker

            if you can afford it!

I know everyone probably hates looking at these now so sorry but.. RMWCT? 😉

    Friedel, Stockdale
    Richards, Skrtel, Simpson, Caulker, Senderos
    Anderson, Sess, Bale, Silva, Walters
    Rvp, Aguero, Yakubu

    0.2 in bank

I think the midfield needs some work..

Expensive keepers. Senderos is a rotation risk.

Midfield is lacking. Anderson?! Definitely can do better there. Moses or McClean or someone like that.

Attack is good. Yakubu is interesting. Keeps scoring despite Rovers doing poorly.

the midfield is good, but ull have difficult decision to make of who to benhc sometimes which might hurt
and anderson is not enough manu coverage
and agger will give u the same returns as skertel for 0.2 less

Also don't like Yakubu, Helguson a much better prospect imo (but shhh)

Otherwise like it, maybe man united defensive coverage?

Playing with the wc idea for the 1st time...

    How would this look like?

    Vorm Schwarzer (rotate well)

BAE McAuley Cahill (if he joins CHE) Shotton Kelly

Walters O´Hara (the 2 rotate well) Nani Bale Silva

    Aguero RVP Sturridge

I kinda like it. Ok, the defence could be better, but the front looks ok. Good coverage of the better teams and all that. Tell me what you guys think, please!
