Thierry Henry returns to Arsenal on a short-term loan deal. Chris Brunt is expected to be sidelined for a couple of months with an ankle injury, while the injuries rack up for Spurs and Everton ahead of the final match of gameweek 20 next Wednesday:

Arsenal have confirmed this afternoon that Thierry Henry has re-joined the club on a short-term loan deal. With Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh heading off to the African Cup of Nations, Arsene Wenger is short in numbers up front and, with Wenger revealing Robin Van Persie will be rested for the FA Cup clash against Leeds, Henry is in line for action. Wenger admitted the forward is a couple of weeks away from full fitness and although Jack Wilshere is not expected to come back from an ankle injury before next month, Thomas Vermaelen is in line for a return after the Gunners trip to Swansea next gameweek.

Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling have both been ruled out out of Manchester United’s FA Cup clash with neighbours City this Sunday. Evans continues to struggle with a calf injury, while Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Smalling is hopeful of a return to training on Monday, though is still suffering from “a really bad bout of tonsillitis”.

Everton have confirmed via their twitter feed this afternoon that Phil Jagielka could be sidelined for up to six weeks after scans revealed he suffered medial ligament damage in the midweek match at home to Bolton. David Moyes has plenty of other injury worries ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with Tamworth. Jack Rodwell, Tim Cahill and Ross Barkley will not be risked, with Everton still to travel to Spurs on Wednesday in the final match of gameweek 20. Reports have also suggested that Tony Hibbert is struggling with a groin problem. Moyes confirmed Leon Osman requires surgery to remove floating bone in his knee, while Royston Drenthe, Marouane Fellaini and Seamus Coleman may be close to a comeback this weekend.

Adam Bogdan looks set to continue in goal this weekend for Bolton as Owen Coyle takes his side to Macclesfield Town. Jussi Jaaskelainen is still suffering from a thigh strain and will be giving a chance to recuperate before the Trotters’ next league game, away to Man United.

Wigan’s Albert Crusat has been given the all-clear after being subbed off with a back problem in Wigan’s 4-1 home thrashing by Sunderland. The Spaniard replaced Victor Moses in the Latics starting XI, with the latter benched for the first time this season, and Roberto Martinez admitted Crusat should feature more often in his first-team thoughts in the months ahead:

It was a real shame he had to come off against Sunderland, because he was having a massive impact on the game. But he will get plenty of opportunities to show what he can do during the second half of the season.

Alex McLeish has revealed Shay Given is making good progress from a hamstring strain. While the keeper won’t feature this weekend in the FA Cup, Big Eck has admitted there is a chance Given will recover in time for Villa’s next league game at home to Everton.

Harry Redknapp confirmed this morning that both Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson are available for selection as Spurs face Cheltenham in the FA Cup this weekend. The Tottenham boss received bad news on the injury front, though, with William Gallas and Sandro expected to be sidelined for a considerable amount of time, after scans revealed both players picked up calf tears in the recent 1-0 win over West Brom. Scott Parker is also unavailable after picking up a “bad bang” on the knee against Swansea, according to his manager.

Jamie O’Hara is making rapid progress from his recent double hernia operation. The midfielder has, of course, been absent since gameweek 15, but according to the Wolves official website, he has an “outside chance” of making a dramatic return against former club Spurs in gameweek 21, with Mick McCarthy certainly expecting him back within the next fortnight.

Roberto Di Matteo presided over Chelsea’s Friday press conference today and revealed both Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou will leave to join up with the Ivory Coast squad tomorrow. The club had hoped the pair would be available for their FA Cup clash with Portsmouth but, as expected, they will report for international duty ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations. Di Matteo also revealed Michael Essien is expected to return to training by the end of the month.

West Brom have confirmed Chris Brunt is to undergo surgery after fracturing his ankle against Everton on New Year’s Day. The Irishman is expected to be sidelined for eight to ten weeks as a result.

People assume that just because someone is young they will be twice as good in a few years but the chances of anyone improving by twice as much is unlikely no matter their age. No doubt ballotelli will improve but we've already seen glimpses of his best this season. For me it's just about him being more consistent not necessarily immensely improved. If he can produce his best performances from this season consistently he will be a great player.

No I love the midfielders available atm. I will play 3 5 2 so I want to sort out, my budget striker. Helguson has better fixtures but it is a rotation threat and his fitness is worrying. Morrison has worse fixtures but I can afford to bench him cause he is not going over 6 pts.

wc team draft no I don't even know anymore

    Sorensen/Friedel

    Richards, Brown, Senderos/Caulker Cahill, Williamson/Senderos/Caulker

Sess, Nani, Bale, Silva, McLean (Sigurdsson)

    Yak/Sturridge, RvP, Aguero

leaves me enough to swap Danny or Yak to Ba (though hopefully Ba will fall enough) or do McLean - Gylfi

Forwards are fine, wouldn't pick Cabaye over any of those others though, so maybe downgrade him to a cheapie like Dyer and either keep the money if you want Ba when he gets back, otherwise upgrade Shotton to Huth or ShawX

I was thinking about which strikers to get using wc and I noticed that in terms of point per game. Helguson and yakubu are far better value than other strikers in their price range and even strikers above their price range. I see no reason to not have Helguson and yakubu in your team as long as they have decent fixtures and QPR definitely do

The bone will be floating around somewhere in the joint, not just "under the skin"... he could get his mum to take that out if that was the case 😀 It's still minor surgery, but even with minor surgery, he will miss a few training sessions. Would be amazed if he played against Spurs.

Why do you think it will be in the joint? Was there more specific news on it, ive seen some similar injuries in basketball where the bone chip has come from the surfice of the joint so the surgery does no damage to any muscle.

muscles shouldn't be damaged anyway...just 2-3 'button hole' sized incisions to insert an endoscope and a cutting or suction tool...soft tissues can become edematous due to the sodium chloride irrigation, but this should subside within 48 hours

the procedure will be carried out via arthroscopy...irrigation and suction to remove debris...its a quick procedure, about an hour, but the joint may take a few weeks to fully repair. The only hope owners have is that he will wait for surgery at a later date and play on for the time being...probably not though 🙁

Is it ok to feel slightly aroused by a WC Team????

    Vorm | Sorenson
    Jones | Richards | Gabbidon | Simpson | Senderos
    Nani | Silva | Bale | Sessegon | Dyer
    RVP | Aguero | Helguson

Aguero a big part of many WC teams it seems. Is he worth the extra 2M over Ade?

No, I think he is not on PK (unless Ballo and maybe Milner are out), plays max 70min, might be subject to rotation, and uses one MCY spot (where you probably have bad K and Silva already and might consider Hart/Richards)

Ah, he seems fairly injury prone as well (looked to me he had a groin inj last time vs the pool)

Sturridge is the obvious option, Bellamy a good punt if he gets gametime and I quite fancy Zamora but not sure about his situation with Jol, might be sold??

        thanks for the advice.
yeah the only draw back with helgusson is im not sure how his gametime will be affected due to macheda.

yeah, my thoughts exactly with regards to bellamy.
and for sturridge, its the possible injury

I can't believe that Jelks (Jagielka) is sidelined for up to six weeks. Looks like I will have to make wholesale changes to my team after all. To top things off Ba is now on African Nations duty and Osman may be a doubt for the final GW match. Not sure right now on who I should bring in to replace those three players. Richards, Donovan and Graham could be a potential combo. But to justify my wild card use I may need to replace a few more players...

Dempsey or Valencia (for next game and for rest of season?)

Got Dempsey at present but think Valencia might be better against Wolves? But then worried Dempsey might be good and price will go up on him and I wont be able to switch back to Dempsey for next game? I have no money in bank!

    Keeper heads up

Not an expert on Sunderland so I stand to be corrected but Gordon is fit again. I would expect him to reclaim his place in the starting lineup and at £4.3m would be a steal. 🙂

just to show there is life without silva:
    last 10 gameweeks:
    silva 5ppg
    nani 6.3ppg
bale 8.2ppg (+whatever he gets v everton on wednesday)
    valencia 6.9ppg
seeing as you play silva every week how about walters 6.6ppg if you only play him at home, which i do.

there you go, good player to own, but mocking people who don't have him because he's sitting at top of the midfielder rankings (for 3 days at least) is too simplified. given their fixtures i'll probably be getting him gw24

    Rate my WC team, please.

    Vorm - Ruddy
    Richards - McAuley - Simpson - Assou-Ekotto - Caulker
    Nani - Bale - Silva - Sessegnon - Dempsey
Van Persie - Adebayor - Yakubu

Maybe the GKs don't rotate too well, but other than that I'm pretty satisfied... I think... maybe.
