Mark Hughes is confirmed as the new QPR manager. Thierry Henry caps his Arsenal comeback with the winner against Leeds. Scott Parker is struggling to make Spurs’ clash with Everton tomorrow, while Michael Essien turns out for Chelsea reserves as he continues his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament damage:

QPR have appointed Mark Hughes as their new manager this afternoon. The Welshman has signed up at Loftus Road on a two and a half year deal, following the dismissal of Neil Warnock earlier this week. He will take charge of first-team matters with immediate effect.

While all of the attention surrounded Thierry Henry after his dream return to the Emirates, Arsene Wenger gave Fantasy managers a boost by revealing post-match that Robin Van Persie will start at the weekend away to Swansea. The Dutchman was afforded a rest and has admitted he is fully refreshed and raring to go after a busy festive schedule. Wenger was quizzed on the possibility of playing both players from the start against Brendan Rodgers’ side and said :

I haven’t decided yet. Robin will be back against Swansea. Will Thierry start or not? I don’t know yet. He can play behind or in front of Robin or on the flank, Robin can play on the flank too, but I don’t know yet what I will do. They can play together, of course, and they did play together.

Wenger’s defensive options were further restricted in the win over Leeds. Arsenal had five defenders out injured prior to last night’s match but Francis Coquelin pulled up injured with a hamstring problem just after the half-hour mark and was replaced by Nico Yennaris. The Gunners boss confirmed post-match that the player will be sidelined for a few weeks with the injury, though he is hoping Johan Djourou will make a return for Sunday’s trip to the Liberty Stadium.

Harry Redknapp has revealed Scott Parker is “very doubtful” for Spurs home clash with Everton tomorrow. The midfielder picked up a knee knock at Swansea in gameweek 19 and hasn’t featured since for the London outfit. Sandro and William Gallas are both unavailable due to calf injuries, while Ledley King is “unfit”, though a hamstring scan has revealed the problem is not as bad as initially feared.

Simon Davies will step up his recovery from injury with a run-out for Fulham’s reserves later today. The midfielder returned to action in gameweek 15 against Swansea after a long-term knee problem but hasn’t played since after picking up a back injury in the game with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Despite David Stockdale’s recent stand-out displays between the Fulham posts, Martin Jol has confirmed Mark Schwarzer is his number one keeper. The Australian has missed the Cottagers last five league games due to a back problem and according to his manager, should be back in action within three or four weeks.

Michael Essien managed a run-out for Chelsea reserves yesterday as the midfielder begins to edge closer to a first-team return. Essien has yet to play this term, having picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury in pre-season training, but came through the game against West Brom without any problems, after a 75 minute appearance.

West Brom have snapped up Scott Allen from Dundee United for an undisclosed fee. The highly-rated young midfielder passed a medical for the Baggies on Friday and despite interest from both the Old Firm, decided on a move down south.

Joey Barton will be available for Queens Park Rangers’ gameweek 22 clash with Wigan. The midfielder is currently serving a three-match ban and was expected to miss the Latics game but the club’s Third Round FA Cup replay against MK Dons will now count as part of his suspension.

Roger Johnson is hopeful he will be available for Wolves’ trip to Tottenham this weekend. Mick McCarthy’s side roll up to the Lane on Saturday and their skipper is confident of overcoming the ankle injury that saw him subbed off in the FA Cup Third Round draw at former club Birmingham.

Everton’s injury worries show no sign of letting up ahead of their trip to Spurs. While Marouane Fellaini and Royston Drenthe are available, David Moyes is set to be without Jack Rodwell, Leon Osman, Tony Hibbert, Tim Cahill, Rodd Barkley and Seamus Coleman, in addition to Phil Jagielka, on Wednesday evening.

Is anyone considering going super-heavy up top? As in Aguero-RVP-Rooney?

I've had a play and it weakens midfield to the extent that Bale and Dempsey are the only two big hitters but I'm considering it.

My thinking is that I need some United cover but only Rooney stands out. Nani is inconsistent and while Valencia grabs assists, he rarely threatens to score and could get shifted back again.

    Any thoughts?

I've managed to do it, but I had a team selling value of 108.4 to play with. If you've not got the dosh I would advise against tbh

plenty of people seem to be considering it, but it's about team value, mine is average, so I won't be considering it.

I have Dempsey and Bale to score my goals from mid, and RvP, Aguero and Sturridge/Yak will get enough goals (and I'm bringing Ba back when he returns)

Valencia and Silva will chip in with enough points. With United's defenders fit again and Young out for another month (so 2 weeks based on Fergie time for injuries)

Valencia will be right wing for a while, where he is more of a goal threat and he'll rack the assists up, don't knock their value.

But it would depend on the layout of the whole team.

Good point regarding Valencia. He is an accumulator rather than explosive (i.e Nani) but I suppose it is just as effective. Aguero has been similar and 3rd top scorer in the whole game.

Team sale value isn't enormous. Think Sturridge until Ba returns might be the safer option.

Any thoughts on Gerrard? Low ownership, penalties/free kicks, plenty of potential for explosive returns.

Thinking seriously about it, although I don't remember going that top heavy before. I can squeeze Silva Dempsey and Bale in the midfield fortunately with Kompany at the back but the rest of the squad is bargain basement.

On the United front, Nani can be frustrating but his stellar performances come around just about often enough to make me tempted to keep him. Rooney is far more streaky imo.

I was considering for a while as I have the cash, but I think Berbetov is going to feature more in this half of the season- and against Bolton he could be lethal, another hat trick ? after that I'm booting him for Sturridge, much easier fixtures for the next few months.
My team for GW21 is now:

      Krul
Kolarov, A Ferdinand, Enrique, Taylor R
      Bale, Dempsey, Silva
Berbatov (c), Aguero (v), Van Persie

It certainly takes the pressure off him. Henry's started doing his job straight away. If he wasn't there RVP would have had to come on at some point to save to day. Good for us as he's now fresher for the league and safe in the knowledge that Henry is taking care of the FA cup for now. On a side note Oxlade-Chamberline was very pleasing on the eye last night. I cringed when he came off for Walcott after his performance at Fulham.

The thing with Sess and Walters comes down to the rest of your mid if you have Silva, Bale and Valencia/Nani then you'll struggle to decide which one of the 2 to bench, and thus Dempsey and McLean is a better option.

Sess and Walters is very solid. Both OOP and Sess is riding the MON effect for the rest of the season while Walters is on pens. When Walters is at home he will be a strong contender to start, when not it's Sess. Don't worry about finding it hard to choose between them, they're both good.

Personally I'll play both in a mid of
      Bale Silva Sess Walters Barfa

I did that tactic of having all 3 for most of the season and trust me, its not worth it as the rest of your squad struggles, they don't score hatricks every week, quite the opposite and its only worth doing if you move the armband between them, if you don't then its a lot of money tied up when other strikers are of equal value at less cost.

Think about it hard, gladly this wc has allowed me to reorganize and have a more balanced squad.

In real football there is rotation and dips in form so you will need all players to pull their weight, real football has become a squad game recently, we need to adapt and not be so reliant on 3 or 4 players like the old days.

I've done it this year, its not worth it, 2 will do, keep van Persie as he's the strongest captain, swap Rooney and Aguero depending on form and fixtures.

anyone regreting useing wildcard now like me atm?

my team before WC was more than solid and this weekend without prem league i was so bored and i activated my wildcard!

    my team before WC:

    Friedel/Vorm
    Evans,Enrique,Richards,Simposn,Mcauley
    Bale,valencia,donovan,mata,dyer
    The YAK,RVP,Adebayouer

    my wilcard team now is

    Vorm / Krul

    Shotton / Richards / Enrique / Evans / Senderos

    Mata / Bale / McClean / Moses / Walters

    RVP / Rooney / Aguero

i did a mistake by wildcarding to early or it was a good call after all?

I think he got some starts under Ancelotti, looked a class act from the start and wonder why he hasn't kept rising upward since.

couple of injuries, and had Meireles coming in to battle with. Also everyone being on AVBs back so hard for him to chuck Josh in

Very talented on the ball, but he needs the likes of Ramires and Essien to do all the running for him

I remember seeing him in the FA Youth Cup a couple of years ago and he totally ran the game. Wilshere and McEachran future Xavi and Iniesta of the England midfield 🙂

McEachran is both of them. Wilshere is James Milner mark II, he just runs around a lot.

Given he next plays on 1 Feb - 21 days away - easily. Only needs a fall a week while not getting any points.

why then am I not seeign this fall rate in say Ba who can't grab any points for an even longer period?

He is still 61% in the positive for transfers.

I think I'll need to wait for anohter GW deadline to see if he will fall much.

Ba hasn't missed a match yet, it's when people check their teams and see a big fat 0 that the real transfers will start. Also, most people make their transfers on Friday night before the big day - just wait for then!

not happy wiht my D this week, but hoping Krul, NTaylor, Simpson and Assou-Ekotto can carry the weight

I will see how the front three do before WCing, but increasingly convinced the future lies in RVP Rooney Aguero with clever rotation used to get the price down in both mid and defence.

Now just need to work out the rotation...

I'm looking at the same as you, with a Midfield of Silva, Bale and Dempsey, and rotating the last playing spot between Moses and Mark Davies. It's only a WC draft at present but I like your thinking!

Ta, yeah my thoughts are Silva Bale Walters, with the final mid spot between Sess and Barfa - this is going to rotate because Sunderland and Newcastle are close hence shouldn't both play at home much. Will check fix.

People worrying about Kompany falling drastically in price.. his ban will probably remain at 4 games after the appeal is heard, but 2 of those will fall in the CC semi final, so he'll only miss 2 PL games.

True that's only 2 FPL games but a lot of damage can be done to his price tag over 3 weeks... I think people buying him at £6m will be able to get him back for the selling price. Those paying less for him may even end up quids in!
