There’s no doubt the Martin O’Neill effect has made a substantial difference to Sunderland’s recent fortunes. With thirteen points in the six games since the Irishman has taken the reigns, in comparison to eleven points in fourteen fixtures under the guidance of Steve Bruce, the new manager has brought about an increased interest in his players as Fantasy assets…

One of the main beneficiaries of the new regime on Wearside has been young James McClean. Prior to O’Neill’s introduction, the winger had failed to appear in a single minute of Sunderland’s season as the club sank ever-closer to the relegation zone. Bruce, to his credit, was the one who acquired McClean but a refusal to afford him a first-team chance has, on reflection, proved something of an unfortunate oversight.

Picking up maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points in his two starts under O’Neill, in addition to notching a goal in the 4-1 win at Wigan, McClean has been propelled onto Fantasy radars as a strong cut-price option. Coming in at just 4.5, he continued his strong form last weekend, scoring and assisting in the 2-0 FA Cup win at Peterborough and, with winter wildcards being weighed up, his name is popping up in plenty provisional squads.

Is this surge of interest justified? We delved deeper into McClean’s performance statistics so far to judge his role in the Sunderland revival and assess his likely potential for the weeks ahead compared to his team-mates, and another familiar name in his FPL price bracket…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

As I have said before - I will not play any Liverpool players, until they sort themselves out. A full public apology will barely suffice.

Arsenal love to play teams like Swansea who pass it about, the gunners to score 3
Liverpool on the other hand couldnt break down a trawler with a battleship. Probably 0-0

Midfield could be very weak. Silva may be out, Drenthe has been missing a lot of game time, Nani is totally inconsistent and not worth the headache. Don't like Baines, too much for a guy who will likely only get points off PKs.

only prob is your going to have to bench either sess or walters or odem which may lead to frustration if you pick the wrong one. maybe downgrade either of sess or walters and put in sturridge with a good run of fixtures coming up. also i think simpson has an injury of some sorts

Good keeper combo, problems in GW's 25 and 28 but otherwise good (sorry, I know that cos I'm surrently looking for the best keeper combos myself!) Wish we knew who'd be in goal for Stoke, Villa and Fulham over the next 4 wks
How aout Rangel for Caulker, very attacking, assists for graham on the cards.
I like the Odemwingie gamble too, also good to swap for Ba when he's back

Agreed, but he never gets in my squad. I've not yet been reduced to my 3rd sub appearing, so he never hurts me, and he frees up cash. I watch him every other week and he's never going to be waving at me on the bench having scored twice and assisted!

    McCauley, Enrique, Senderos (Huth, Brown)
    Dempsey, Silva, Sessegnon, Bale (Henry)
    Rooney, RVP, Sturridge

I just have a few concerns...
Do you guys think the midfield is too weak?
Is there a better 4.5 mid than Henry? (don't want McLean as I already have Sess)
Is Rooney a better shout than Aguero

Re: Henry. Depends what your thoughts are about your bench. I hate having loads of points sitting on the bench doing nothing most weeks. I'd rather have a strong starting XI and would rather suck up the odd 2 point sub appearance than missing out on a few 6 pointers here and there. I've had Henry on my bench for most of the season and he's not yet come on. One things for sure, he'll never score a Premiership goal!

He should, he's far superior to Taylor in every aspect (except FK's) but think Taylor will get some games somewhere and Santon could be at risk if he has a shaky game.

Thing is I prefer to have absolutely sure to play defenders and with Williamson at the same price, think he's a better option right now.

Its gonna be a tough gameweek for all, so compare it with your planned wildcard team and see if you think they would fair better.

Personally I am wildcarding to shift my Spurs and Man U players

All this talk about BAE's big fantasy score got me thinking of the big scorers from previous years?
I can remember Jaaskelainen getting a similar score to BAE's in one game week where, he saved two penalties and got a clean sheet.
I also remember a dempsey double gameweek where he scored big.
The more obvious ones are Berbatov's and Defoe's five goals each, both scored a single gameweek.
Amir Zaki and Elano did they get huge gameweek scores a few years ago?
Do any-more obscure massive points scorers spring to mind?

I had forgotten about keane and walcott. I definitely remember the dempsey one because I switched captaincy from him.
Maybe Keane might be a good WC pick for a couple of week's, if he's a starter?

Chris Baird and Ryan Taylor (when at Wigan) scored about 20/21 points by scoring twice in 2-0 wins.. Baird's was only last season as well.

Still to this day am gutted about not captaining Ryan Taylor that day. I seriously considered it.

And Zaki did most certainly get a monster haul a couple of years ago. Week 3, in a 5-1 win at Hull.

Some absolute mavericks among us had him captain that day. 8)

Anyway, I was making a very serious and pertinent point about how overly aggresive and angry we get over things - such as the Tottenham starting XI - that we have absolutely no influence over, and how seriously we all take this game.

I have worked hard (on my WC)...

But every time I looked like I was getting somewhere I reorganised...

It gave the impression of management however in reality it just created confusion...

I have now decided to stop tinkering and have settled on this...

    Vorm/Sorensen
    Evans/N Taylor/Williamson/Richards/Enrique
    Gerrard/Silva/Bale/Nani/Sessegnon
    Ade/RVP and the Yak

    .1 in the bank.

    Freidel/Vorm

    A.Cole/N.Taylor/Williamson/BAE/DeLaat

    Mclean/Valencia/Mata/dempsey/Bale

    RVP/Yak/Aguero

I have about 0.6 in the bank.
Cole is there for assists and is a differntial to people in my mini league.

I'm stuck on aguero or rooney which would mean a downgrade but aguero has better run of games In my opinion.

Since you have the money, I would replace DeLaet with someone who actually plays and is capable of keeping clean sheets, caulker or shotton for example.

Aguero is the better pick, even if they were the same price imo.

I wouldn't pay for Cole but if you don't fancy Richards or Riise for example, then go with your gut.

    Vorm

    Raylor, JE, Assou-Ekotto

    Silva, Nani (c), Mata, Walters

    RvP, Yakubu, Adebayor

    subs: Ruddy, Caulker, Moses, Kompany

    1 ft. 0.0

    A) Kompany > Richards

    B) Adebayor > Agbon?

I want to downgrade Adebayor (unless I upgrade him to Rooney/Aguero on WC), and Everton have an absolute crap D at the moment.. So Agbon could really shine this week

I also prefer Kompany > Richards for my postWC team..

That said, City/Richards could do well this week, and Adebayor is due a goal/assist

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Ade hasn't done anything for a few games so the odds are stacking that he'll bang in a few goals.
He cant play nxt wek V city so will come back rested for Wigan - I'd keep him.

I think Dempsey is one to have for the nxt 10 GW's cos of the fixtures, you know what he's like - a series of 2's then a 12 and 15

Rooney, who knows. Depends what mood he's in if you ask me.
That said I am bringing him in for the next three games but I'm a gambler....

I fluked my head to head completely. He had basically the same team as me except walker and drenthe going into the last game. But I had BAE I needed him to do something more then walker and drenthe combined. I was not confident tbh.
