There’s no doubt the Martin O’Neill effect has made a substantial difference to Sunderland’s recent fortunes. With thirteen points in the six games since the Irishman has taken the reigns, in comparison to eleven points in fourteen fixtures under the guidance of Steve Bruce, the new manager has brought about an increased interest in his players as Fantasy assets…

One of the main beneficiaries of the new regime on Wearside has been young James McClean. Prior to O’Neill’s introduction, the winger had failed to appear in a single minute of Sunderland’s season as the club sank ever-closer to the relegation zone. Bruce, to his credit, was the one who acquired McClean but a refusal to afford him a first-team chance has, on reflection, proved something of an unfortunate oversight.

Picking up maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points in his two starts under O’Neill, in addition to notching a goal in the 4-1 win at Wigan, McClean has been propelled onto Fantasy radars as a strong cut-price option. Coming in at just 4.5, he continued his strong form last weekend, scoring and assisting in the 2-0 FA Cup win at Peterborough and, with winter wildcards being weighed up, his name is popping up in plenty provisional squads.

Is this surge of interest justified? We delved deeper into McClean’s performance statistics so far to judge his role in the Sunderland revival and assess his likely potential for the weeks ahead compared to his team-mates, and another familiar name in his FPL price bracket…

Will no Chelsea coverage hurt me a lot? Really tempted to take a punt on Odemwingie instead of Sturridge, but will leave me with no Chelsea players

Just a snippet of info from pardew on santon if anyone is interested:

Seems to be a lot of people asking about mid-priced midfielders around the £7.5m mark for the forthcoming game week (including myself).

What's the general consensus on these?

    Petrov (EVE) - set pieces
    Pederson (FUL) - set pieces
Ramires (SUN) - Chelsea's best player currently
    Lennon (WOL) - form team
Morrison (NOR) - set pieces / no Brunt
Cabaye (QPR) - thin midfield / pens?
Ben Arfa (QPR) - likely OOP with absentees
Milner (wig) - not guaranteed starter
    Johnson (wig) - see above

    Any thoughts / others?

He'll probably correct me at some point, but I think SammyC finished 6th a couple of years ago after being around the 100k mark at this stage in the season.

The turnout may have not been as drastic as that, but he definitely did finish 6th, and was definitely way off that around Christmas.

      So yeah, it's possible.

Best defender for just next two GW's (to be played in both) for 5.6 or less?

Current defence is Simpson Caulker Kompany (out) Jagielka (injured) Shotton

Want to keep Kompany as I've had him since the start and its only two league games but could be persuaded if people think there's a far better option for 6.5.

Enrique and BEA also have tough games ahead. I'd look towards Fulham or Villa for clean sheets over the next 10 gw's or so.

    Vorm - Ruddy

    Richards - BAE - JEvans - Shotton - Simpson

Bale - Nani _ Silva Walters - McClean

    RVP - Aguero - Yak

    or

    Vorm - Moreira

Richards - JEvans - Shotton - Simpson - De Laet

    Bale - Nani - Silva - Dempsey - McClean

    RVP - Aguero - Yak

Thinking Yak to Fletcher and upgrading De Laet to Kelly

    Any Opinions or suggestions????

Hennessey for save points. He also saved a penalty against them - last season I think. Maybe that'll inspire him!

For a punt at an unlikely cleansheet you'd have to say Sorensen - but it ain't gonna happen.

      So yeah, you're screwed!

When will we hear news on Simpson's injury? Might replace him with Santon if he's out

    Hi Guys,

Am going to put Sess in for W/C. If I do that, would you put in either McClean or Moses ?

    Thanks.

i have 3 over 8 million(Dempsey Valencia, Bale) 1 mid priced(sess) and a cheapie (mcclean). I think you should always have a cheapie as bench fodder but just not ferguson

Lol, that is what my midfield will be, mate. Quite fancy Moses against QPR, that's the only thing. Although saying that, I don't rate Wigan's chances as much now that a new manager is at the fore...

Lost on last page, really struggling!

    Vorm

    Raylor, JE, Assou-Ekotto

    Silva, Nani (c), Mata, Walters

    RvP, Yakubu, Adebayor

    subs: Ruddy, Caulker, Moses, Kompany

    1 ft. 0.0

    A) Kompany > Richards

    B) Adebayor > Agbon?

I want to downgrade Adebayor (unless I upgrade him to Rooney/Aguero on WC), and Everton have an absolute crap D at the moment.. So Agbon could really shine this week

I also prefer Kompany > Richards for my postWC team..

That said, City/Richards could do well this week, and Adebayor is due a goal/assist

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

What are your opinions on Vorm. He seems to have only one nice game (V NOR) in the next 9
    Keep him or swap for.......?

i've had him from the start so i'm keeping. He'll keep clean sheets against strong teams aswell (e.g liverpool) and he only conceded one goal against the likes of united, spurs and arsenal

        Cheers for the reply mate.
I'm not sure tho. 3 of his nxt 4 home games a re V Arsenal, Chelsea and City...
Away games are tough as well, Sund, Stoke and Fulham

I might pair Sorensen and Krul.
