The previous calendar year was a topsy-turvy one for Stephane Sessegnon. A marquee signing from Paris St. Germain in last January’s transfer window, many backed the diminutive midfield dynamo to steal the show in a Sunderland side hardly famed for its flair.

Sessegnon’s difficulties in adjusting to life in England were initially reflected in Steve Bruce’s inability to find a settled home for him in a combative midfield but, when a late-season injury crisis saw the Benin international reborn as a stand-in striker, a flurry of goals made him a key differential as mini-league races reached a crescendo. Carrying that form into a devastating pre-season, hopes were high for a profitable campaign.

By October, that optimism seemed a distant memory; a single assist from the first eight gameweeks brought an average of just 2.6 points per game and saw Sessegnon’s price in free fall. Two double-digit gameweeks were followed by a further prolonged period in the doldrums and, in a game in which consistency is a prized asset, a bulimic tendency towards feast and famine rarely fosters a loyal following. Fierce competition amongst the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mid-priced midfielders saw Sessegnon fall by the wayside as players with the security of dead-ball duties made the early running.

Martin O’Neill’s arrival on Wearside has breathed new life into Sunderland’s stuttering season and Sessegnon has been a notable beneficiary of the growing confidence at the Stadium of Light. A total of 31 points in his last four games have seen him eclipse Seb Larsson as the side’s top FPL point-scorer. Coupled with this upturn in form is the news that O’Neill is determined to rebuff a growing crowd of suitors and has publicly challenged Sessegnon to become “a proper centre forwardâ€. With Connor Wickham still finding his feet in the Premier League and Nicklas Bendtner cheerfully maintaining his hard-won reputation for unreliability, Sessegnon may get the chance to rise to that challenge with home games against Norwich and Swansea just around the corner.

As wildcard season gathers pace and Fantasy managers look to wring every last penny out of their squads, Sessegnon’s 6.5 price represents a significant saving over Larsson’s 6.9, and with budget upstart James McClean yet to firmly establish himself in the side, Sessegnon looks set to be the prime target for those looking to capitalise on two tempting home ties for a buoyant Black Cats.

I'm guessing this one from the twitter feed: http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/12/01/12/SOCCER_Newcastle_Nightlead.html

I'm pondering over these two myself. I'd say Williamson's place is possibly safer in the short term (unless Pardew signs a centre-back in the window), but I'm assuming Santon should be good enough to hold down the left-back spot, now he seems to have got his foot in the door. He's an Italian international after all. For that reason, I'm thinking of bringing in Santon and tripling up on Newcastle 's defence as a one-week pre-wildcard gamble.

    Rest of Team

    Krull/Vorm

    Clark Shotton Senderos Richards Enrique

    Van Persie Yakubu Rooney

Worth taking the 4pt hit to bring in Valencia for Osman? Can see Man U running riot against Bolton and a good differential in my mini-league, but hate taking any hits.

OK let's give some pros and cons of some captain choices...

I currently have it on Valencia, but always a chance he'll play full back and maybe even benched?

With Bale you can be almost sure he'll start and get 90 minutes.

I don't see a lot between Valencia, Bale, Nani but Bale seems the safest as he's guaranteed the minutes.

    Krul - Vorm

Gerrard - Ben Arfa - Moses - Dempsey - Bale

I have sorted my WC team, but for one spot. I'm going for Sorensen in goal, but am not sure whether to go Given or Vorm for the other spot - I have no other coverage for either team.

Given has significantly better fixtures then Vorm and does rotate better. Only issue is, I bought Vorm at 4.0 so would have to pay more to get him back, though I could always go Caulker if I wanted defensive Swansea coverage later in the season and I think their bubble might burst a little after the run they face.

Any help much appreciated, cheers lads!

    Hi all,

Thoughts on Milner? Toure on ACON duty. Nasri (have you seen that Youtube video?) further down the pecking order & Silva with his foot injury.

    A decent punt perhaps?

      Thanks chaps.

Trying to think of the main benifiiciary of that depleted midfield. Working out the pecking order is quiet something.

Interesting to note Milner took the penalty in the win over Liverpool.

The vid? Youtube - Nasri Liverpool fans.

How is the 20% league going to work? Will you post the qualifying scores or do we have to work it out ourselves 😉

There is a page on my site for it. Seems 65 is the score needed this week after hits. Surprised average didn't change after baps but it makes sense I guess.

It doesn't mention the actual scores needed, though, does it? Unless I'm missing it.

It started this GW. 65 is the correct score needed. It will be on my site soon.
