The previous calendar year was a topsy-turvy one for Stephane Sessegnon. A marquee signing from Paris St. Germain in last January’s transfer window, many backed the diminutive midfield dynamo to steal the show in a Sunderland side hardly famed for its flair.

Sessegnon’s difficulties in adjusting to life in England were initially reflected in Steve Bruce’s inability to find a settled home for him in a combative midfield but, when a late-season injury crisis saw the Benin international reborn as a stand-in striker, a flurry of goals made him a key differential as mini-league races reached a crescendo. Carrying that form into a devastating pre-season, hopes were high for a profitable campaign.

By October, that optimism seemed a distant memory; a single assist from the first eight gameweeks brought an average of just 2.6 points per game and saw Sessegnon’s price in free fall. Two double-digit gameweeks were followed by a further prolonged period in the doldrums and, in a game in which consistency is a prized asset, a bulimic tendency towards feast and famine rarely fosters a loyal following. Fierce competition amongst the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mid-priced midfielders saw Sessegnon fall by the wayside as players with the security of dead-ball duties made the early running.

Martin O’Neill’s arrival on Wearside has breathed new life into Sunderland’s stuttering season and Sessegnon has been a notable beneficiary of the growing confidence at the Stadium of Light. A total of 31 points in his last four games have seen him eclipse Seb Larsson as the side’s top FPL point-scorer. Coupled with this upturn in form is the news that O’Neill is determined to rebuff a growing crowd of suitors and has publicly challenged Sessegnon to become “a proper centre forward”. With Connor Wickham still finding his feet in the Premier League and Nicklas Bendtner cheerfully maintaining his hard-won reputation for unreliability, Sessegnon may get the chance to rise to that challenge with home games against Norwich and Swansea just around the corner.

As wildcard season gathers pace and Fantasy managers look to wring every last penny out of their squads, Sessegnon’s 6.5 price represents a significant saving over Larsson’s 6.9, and with budget upstart James McClean yet to firmly establish himself in the side, Sessegnon looks set to be the prime target for those looking to capitalise on two tempting home ties for a buoyant Black Cats.

Why not? So long as you have decent backup. SAF will have to chose soon, you can't drop them every time they make a mistake or two otherwise you will end up with two keeperes with no confidence...

Seems better to go with keepers you can rely on and if you want a cheap way into the United defence Evans seems a smarter route, even though I would prefer spend the extra money to get Smalling.

i feel bad ditching silva. he has been in my team since gw 1 and sort of the backbone of my team. Loosing value also but can i afford to have him on bench while i could transfer him for a cheap mid and upgrade sturridge to rooney for the money.

A real dilemma for me this, anyone feel the same ?

Maaann... Silva could well be the player of the season in my view. No way I'd ditch him now. Him and Bale, rock solid week after week. Rooney and Aguero are both too patchy - if you catch the wave you can ride it but get off quick too.

I'm waiting for RVP to crumple and sit the rest out. Gonna be first on the trigger.

Rooney has an impressive record against Bolton, but after that Man Utd's fixtures are not great
Aguero's away stats are terrible, but short term fixtures are good and there are plenty of home matches to come.

If you are getting one in this week or wildcarding I'd be tempted to go Rooney then swap for Aguero.

So, wildcard time and 100 odd points to catch so have to do something a 'little bit' different. What do we reckon?

    Krul - Mignolet

    Richards - Agger - Williamson - Shotton - Kelly

    Mata - VDV - Dempsey - Walters - McLean

    RVP - Aguero - Odemwingie

all rivals have Bale so going with VDV... bad move?

I'm in almost the same position and you seem to have a fairly similar team, at least in the front 8.

    A)
    Vorm/Mignolet
    Simpson/Senderos/Evans/Enrique/Neil Taylor
    Dempsey/Silva/Valencia/Bale/BenArfa
    VanP/Aguero/Yak

    B)
    Vorm/Mignolet
    Simpson/Senderos/Caulker/Enrique/Neil Taylor
    Dempsey/Gerrard/Nani/Bale/Sessegnon
    VanP/Ade/Yak

      A. cause i prefer Silva to Gerrard... but i do prefer Sess to BenArfa...

maybe there is a middle ground... Silva and Sess..

can't really choose between Ade and Aguero.. Ade might be less prolific but he's a nailed on starter...

Quite sick of hearing people's deluded opinions that Silva is essential.

For me the game is about taking risks and going with your gut and not keeping a player simply because he is in 43% of the teams. RVP is own by 34% yet he is considered far from integral by many posters. On the other end Enrique has the same ownership as RVP yet i've only seen in a handful of wildcard teams.

For me midfield has the widest wealth of options, and warrants being confident and bold in your choices without the consideration of home rotation defence and goalies require.

    Lindegaard
    Richards, BAE, Williamson
    Gerrard, Valencia, Dempsey, Bale
    RVP, Aguero, Yakubu

    Subs: Vorm, McClean, Senderos, Huth

Those who don't consider RVP integral are a bit silly.
% owned is a bad judge as it is skewed towards dead teams (See G. Cahill's ownership and points).
I wouldn't be scared of ditching Silva if he's out but he's a good as any if he's fit.

Was still undecided on the goalie combo and came up with this..
    Fixtures Starting GW24.

    ---- A ------------------------------------------------------------------------ B
    Ful+Stoke --------------------------------------------------------- Ful+Swansea

    ----^^^^^---------------------------------------------------------------------^^^^^
    Sunderland (H)———————————————–West Brom (A)
    Stoke City (H)————————————————Norwich (H) / Stoke City (H)
    Swansea (H)————————————————–Stoke City (A) / QPR (A)
    Wolves (H) / Norwich (H)———————————Wolves (H)
    Aston Villa (A)————————————————Aston Villa (A)
    Swansea (H)—————————————————Swansea (H)
    Man City (H)—————————————————Everton (H)
    Norwich (H) / Wigan (A)———————————–Norwich (H)
    Bolton (A) / Wolves (H)————————————Newcastle (H)
    Aston Villa (A)————————————————QPR (A)
    Everton (H)——————————————————Blackburn (H)
    Wigan (H)——————————————————-Wigan (H)
    Everton (A)——————————————————Wolves (H)
    Sunderland (H) / QPR (A)———————————Sunderland (H)
    Bolton (H)——————————————————-Liverpool (H)

Even if I go fixture against fixture Im getting A = B

    Which do you suggest ??

    Ta.

Problem is, which Fulham keeper are you going to pick? What if Sorenson has a bad game? The last thing you want to do with the coming weeks is to use a transfer on a keeper...

With A I get Caulker + 0.5 extra and with B its Shotton who plays OOP.

        You still think A ??

Shotton is slight rotation risk, Caulker not and the 0.5 is useful.

On the other hand Stockdale and Sorenson are also risks... Vorm isn't.

          Hmmm. ...

          B perhaps

So, just to clarify: The Yak cannot get his 0.4m rise during this gameweek, because the maximum rise is capped at 0.3m according to the people in the know. That's a bit of a bummer if true.

    Anyone disagree with this?

Pretty sure it is the case, there have been a few occasions - Dzeko is the one I remember clearly, where players *should* have risen by 0.4, but didn't.

That is true so far - I believe Dzeko, Bale and VDV have all been denied 0.4 rises this season.
0.4 is a huge change in a week, can see why.
