David Silva’s ankle problem isn’t as bad as first feared. Thierry Henry undergoes extra fitness sessions as he pushes for a start against Swansea, Scott Parker could return for Spurs, while Darron Gibson joins Everton from Man United:

Owners of David Silva will be relieved to hear that the diminutive Spaniard is due to resume training tomorrow and could be ready to face Wigan. The Monday evening kick-off could serve as a blessing, affording Silva a couple of extra days to recover from the ankle injury which kept him out of the mid-week cup defeat to Liverpool. Silva saw a specialist on Wednesday and the injury will be assessed today once the swelling has gone down. Assistant manager David Platt, who also admitted Mario Balotelli is a doubt for the Latics showdown, said:

David did a bit of running yesterday and will do a bit more today. Hopefully he will be back on the training pitch tomorrow.

Harry Redknapp is hopeful that Scott Parker will recover from a knee problem in time for tomorrow’s game with Wolves. Parker hasn’t featured for Spurs since limping off in the New Year’s Eve draw at Swansea. Redknapp conceded Ledley King isn’t yet ready to return from a hamstring problem, while Sandro and William Gallas remain sidelined, due to calf tears.

Arsene Wenger has revealed Thierry Henry is undertaking extra training sessions to build up his fitness ahead of the weekend’s trip to Swansea. Henry came on as a second half sub in last Monday’s FA Cup clash with Leeds and has admitted he is short of playing the full ninety minutes. Wenger, speaking to Arsenal Player earlier, said:

Thierry wants to help out so he makes extra sessions to try and get back to his full fitness. He is not there yet but he is not far from the level he was at when he left here [in 2007]. He is fit enough to start a game but not fit enough to last or play the whole thing. Those are the decisions I always have to make considering the balance of the team. Does he sometimes start? Does he sometimes come on? That’s what I have to decide. He is in the squad for Sunday.

Wenger also admitted he intends to utilise the talents of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain more often over the new few weeks. The youngster has featured just once for the Gunners in the league so far, coming on as a second half sub in the 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford back in gameweek 3, but played in the FA Cup game with Leeds, with his manager admitting:

He is very close now and he will be used in the next six months for sure. He is working on his defensive side, his urgency and his committed level as well. When you are a young, talented player you have to experience that talent is good, but that commitment at the top level is highly needed too. I am very happy with him. I am confident that in the next few weeks he will play.

Alan Pardew has praised unsung defensive duo Mike Williamson and Davide Santon for their recent contributions to the Newcastle back-four. While Pardew’s plaudits will perhaps increase Fantasy interest in Santon, in particular, they may be a little unnerving for owners of Ryan Taylor. Taylor, who has been playing much of the season at left-back, looks like he could be ousted from that position by the Italian under-21s captain. Pardew said of Santon:

He can play both sides and he gives us a massive weaponry. But at the moment, left-back, he looks like he has probably got the nod.

Everton have confirmed the signing of Darron Gibson from Manchester United in a four and a half year deal. The Irishman will be available for immediate selection, meaning he could make his debut on Saturday at Villa Park. Gibson will be a welcome addition to David Moyes’ midfield, and with injuries to Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell, could go straight into the side. Gibson has featured just once for United this season, providing an assist in their win over Wigan.

There has been some welcome injury news for Blackburn boss Steve Kean, with Paul Robinson and Junior Hoilett both in contention to play against Fulham tomorrow. The duo have missed a fair amount of time over the last few weeks and their potential return would be a massive boost to Rovers’ survival hopes. Meanwhile, Scott Dann is still around a week away from a return and Martin Olsson has trained successfully and is also in contention to start against the Cottagers.

Chelsea’s Gael Kakuta has joined French side Dijon on loan for the rest of the season. In the hope that he’d do a Daniel Sturridge, Chelsea farmed Kakuta out to Bolton for the first half of the campaign, but the youngster was afforded just 72 minutes game time by Owen Coyle.

Even with the likes of RVP, Bale, Nani & Ade in my team, i'm strongly considering putting the armband on my one week punt Odemwingie... Whats the worst that could happen 😛

Looking at it logically though, do WBA have to many injuries in the creativity department or should he still cause a threat?

Brunt out isn't the best news from a creativity point of view, but at the end of the day Norwich ALWAYS concede so there should be a good chance of Odem. If your chasing a lead then maybe it's worth taking the risk. If it is only a 1 week punt, have you considered maybe Cox instead after his haul last weekend in the FA cup, he should play too with Long out?

I already brought in Odem, might have jumped the gun a bit, didn't consider Cox although he would have been a good option, at least Odem has the added bonus of penalties

It really would be a risk, at the end of the day it is WBA..

Got him in for Agbon, which again, could prove costly with Everton's weakened defence..

    Team linked.

Am doing pretty well but not sure whether to play my WC this week, as can field an ok team by having just swapped Kompany out for Richards.

At the moment am thinking of taking a 4 point hit to get Valencia in for Walters, thinking that I’ll use my WC next week and poss get Walters back in. What do people think?

To WC or not to WC? Is there a better week to WC?

    Thanks

Can you let me have your thoughts on my WC team please? I'm almost ready to pull the trigger but am having the usual doubts? Particularly worried that defence might be a bit weak.

    Vorm - Krul
    Simpson - Senderos - Kelly - Enrique - Rangel
    Nani - Silva - Bale - Moses - McClean
    RvP - Rooney - Sturridge

    Cheers.

Thanks for the replies. I'd been wanting to get more City cover (despite being a United fan). Now looking at the above with

      Kelly > Richards
      Rooney > Aguero
      Sturridge > Yak

Have had to take Rangel out so now need the best defensive option at 4.1 or under?

    RMWCT/GW21 Please

    Stockdale
    Santon, Terry, BAE
    Silva, Bale, Mata(C), Dempsey, (7.6)
    Bellamy, RVP(vc)

    Sorensen - Yak, Riise, Shotton

Would I be crazy for not having any ManU players... With all the rubbish/injuries/rotation going on around thier team you dont know what to expect from SAF.
Initially had Valencia in that empty slot and Riise would come later but he could play at RB again...
Also not sure about playing Silva over Yak, could change depending on any late news.

1038 FOOTBALL: Stoke manager Tony Pulis has concerns over a number of players ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield. Defenders Jonathan Woodgate, Marc Wilson and Ryan Shotton are all nursing what Pulis describes as "niggles". Andy Wilkinson could return at the back having overcome his recent knee injury, while the likes of goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, winger Matthew Etherington and striker Peter Crouch are set to return after they were rested for last weekend's FA Cup victory at Gillingham.

a great 11 lets hope you dont have injuries lol. Im not sure on Valencia and Nani would drop 1 of them and put bit extra on sub players ie De laet-ferguson to cheap players that play ie Reo-Coker, 4.0 defender

you never know, Ade could be diabolical or could score a hatrick.

I sold him for silva and now I am worried I made a mistake

I can't decide between Nani and Dempsey for my wildcard, which I'm playing GW23. Problem is I'd want Nani back around GW28 (improving fixtures and rival has him), so is it worth including Dempsey for just 4 games before having the issue of working him out again?

Got my WC team down to different options. A) Heavy up top. B) Spread the wealth

    Team A

    Mignolet Vorm
    Kompany Enrique Santon Caulker Kelly
    Dempsey Bale Walters HBA McLean
    RVP Rooney Aguero

    Team B

    Mignolet Vorm
    Kompany BAE Santon Kelly Caulker
    Gerrard Dempsey Bale HBA Valencia
    Aguero RVP Holt

    Any thoughts/feelings/opinions?

Be careful, neither HBA nor McLean are nailed down. Do Mignolet and Vorm rotate well? I think I prefer Team A, only because I'm not sold on Gerrard or Holt.

    MF is currently:

Silva, Van der Vaart, Walters, McClean

Who should I bring as 5th MF, I've got 7.1mill to spend.

A Newcastle mid to rotate with McClean would work wonders. Ben Arfa or Cabaye!

    Tinkering with RTaylor > Santon
will gain 0.5mil plus is Raylor going to get game time? as the manager has backed santon.
Or will he play him in midfield?
Any thoughts as Raylor is good points scorer with set pieces etc

      Keep studge imo

Not wild about 3 newcastle players, and although they've done well, I wouldnt double up on Swans defence - some horrible fixtures coming up for them

Rooney as he looked good last game and could be coming into form. Aguero has terrible away form so maybe risky even against Wigan's back line.

Sooo....now you can actually see Gayhill's face much closer. The deal is almost done folks!!

We just have to wait for the United game, where he tries to help Chelsea win a couple of points.
