A busy Saturday on the tightrope saw plenty of jostling for position in the rogues gallery with yellow cards for a number of familiar faces, and a significant red for long term Fantasy favourite, Yakubu.

Now into his tenth season in English football, the portly Nigerian has been as much a constant in the goalscoring charts as he has been absent from the disciplinary ones. However, guilty of planting a full set of studs on Danny Murphy’s knee in the 3-1 win over Fulham, ‘The Yak’ duly picked up his first Premier League red and will now sit out the next three Gameweeks (eve, NEW, ars).

In the yellow card stakes, Yakubu’s teammate Jason Lowe still leads the way having picked up 8 cautions in his first 19 games for the club, but with 3 games in the New Year now completed without adding to that tally he’s seen John Terry last week, and now Lee Cattermole draw level with him, following his booking in the 1-0 loss at Chelsea. All three now sit just 2 cards away from a two-match ban.

Yellow cards also for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Wolves’ Karl Henry bring them into the mix forming a fearsome quartet with Joey Barton and Gary Caldwell on 7 yellows for the season, while new faces joining the growing band on 6 bookings were Chelsea pair, David Luiz and Raul Meireles and the Stoke captain, Ryan Shawcross.

GAMEWEEK 22 BANS

  • Yakubu Aiyegbeni (BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Luis Suàrez (LIV) – FA charge (fifth of 8 matches)
  • Vincent Kompany (MCI) – 1 Red for serious foul play (third of 4 matches)

Seems good to me - I'd do it
Nani's gonna drop anyway so if you take him out now you might not lose anything if you bring him back in
I have both of them and I hink i'll take Nani out for Valencia this week anyway, frees up my cash to buy Kompany when he's back

Wow, watching the man utd game today, Valencia is an absolute better option (at the moment) than Nani. Valencia was really unlucky not to get a couple of assists in that game, and Nani was almost non-existant!

basically I have komps at 6.3, ade at 8.9 and nani at 10.2. I have 1ft and 1m to spend, and one more gw until I wildcard. Which of the three mentioned should I sell for a one week punt- i am leaning towards ade or nani as their fixtures become difficult after gw 22 , whereas man citys are more favourable. thoughts?

I'd do Nani to Dempsey and then keep Dempsey after your wildcard. Get him in now cos he's gonna rise this week and his fixtures are as good as anyones for 6/8 weeks.
Keep Ade for the Wigan game I reckon. Keep Kompany too, not worth taking a one week punt on another defender whan you'll only want Kompany back in anyway

I have to say, I would like to see the assist rules changed

I understand that an objective system of "last touch" that we have now is arguably the most impassionate, definitive and "fair", but I would rather that the REAL instigator of the goal is rewarded

I would like to see all assists reviewed by panel of maybe 3 or 5 people who know about football, and the assist awarded to the player who REALLY made the chance

Looking at Man U's first goal today for example, and speaking as a non Rooney owner, I think it is ridiculous if Welbeck gets the assist and Rooney gets nothing for a great pass just because it happened to shave one atom off Welbeck's boot en route to Scholes. Same goes for the RvP/Gervinho one as well

Its just common sense. This game is frustrating enough as it is without technicalities like we've seen today making it even more infuriating.

Objective beats subjective any day of the week. If it was the other way round, with Rooney applying a tiny touch to a Welbeck cross, you wouldn't be crying about it, you'd be rubbing your hands in delight. The can of worms for a '5 man panel' is vast, plus assists don't really matter that much to the Premier League, it's just a waste of money to employ this 'panel'.

I dont own Rooney. I'm not crying about lost points

I'm arguing that true contribution should be rewarded. Even if Welbeck did get the slightest knick on it, if he had missed it it would still have been a goal. If Rooney hadn't have made the pass, it wouldnt have been a goal

So really, why should Welbeck get 3 and Rooney 0?

On the subjective point though, a friend of mine stopped playing FF a few seasons ago because he argued that a DUMMY by a player he had had really made a goal (which really it had as sent the defence the wrong way) but he hadnt touched it. He had a big debate with the powers that be and then stopped playing - so it is a contentious issue

I just know I'd rather play a game where the real chance maker gets the credit

As soon as you bring opinion into it, where does it end? Do you credit the dummy run off the ball? Do you credit the run across the keeper's eye-line on a freekick, or the attacking player in the wall who moves out of the way to allow the ball to go through? See? You could argue there are two or three players assists EVERY goal! It's a can of worms that would turn every goal into a ridiculous kangeroo court. Keep it simple. It's not perfect, but it works.

There is only the play as it happened. If you want to ignore the Welbeck touch and act as if he had not touched it, you are then dealing with what "might" have happened had he not touched it. Let's try to be objective

        McLeish is far too negative.

I saw joke posts on here the other night with a strikeforce of Torres, Bent and Carroll now suddenly everyone is getting two of these players just because of one goal and one assist today.

Villa are definitely better going forward with Ireland in the team. And they're fixtures are very strong for the next couple of months. Plus Bent has 2 goals in 3 so he has a bit of form. It's not that crazy imo.

2 goals in 3 games isn't much form when the last four games he's played read 2222. Sure they have good fixtures but they've been in terrible form. I agree Bent's not as crazy a punt as Fernando but I don't understand how either of them can suddenly become bandwagons when they've done very little and cost over 9.5 each.

Quickie guys, before the price rises.

Vorm. Skrtel. Morison (or) Mignolet. Enrique. Fletcher

    Other goalie is Lindegaard.

Midfield: Dempsey. Bale. Valencia. Silva. Sessegnon
    Forwards Morison/Fletcher. Aguero. RVP.

TBH Morison is easier to bench than Fletcher, but anyway. What do you gents think?

With Lindegaard you want Mignolet I think - looking at the fixtures down the line
Fletcher or Morrisson is a tough call - you're on your own there but personally I wouldnt be bringing in a Liverpool defender with the fixtures they have ahead of them.....
Stoke and Fulham look good bets and Shawcross/Hangeland are due a few goals this season
I think Huth too, he had 4 attempts at goal last week alone I think

Hey guys, with 5 players potentially in the doldrums for my next GW I dunno if I can afford to hold off WCing till gw 24 anymore. Could WC this week and have:

    Sorensen, Vorm

    Enrique, Richards, Evans, Senderos, Santon/Caulker

    Bale, Silva, valencia, Dempsey, Sessegnon

    Aguero, RVP, Fletcher

Evans over Jones seems like the play now that him being an OOP MFer is more or less over. Having to bench someone from that MF everyother week might not be fun but seems like a good problem to have. Any opinions or glaring omissions? Thanks

Fed up with Nani. Had him for seven weeks this season, in two separate spells, and he's done absolutely nothing for me.

basically I have komps at 6.3, ade at 8.9 and nani at 10.2. I have 1ft and 1m to spend, and one more gw until I wildcard. Which of the three mentioned should I sell for a one week punt- i am leaning towards ade or nani as their fixtures become difficult after gw 22 , whereas man citys are more favourable. thoughts

Maybe I can tempt you with a repost of an earlier comment from me:

With Yakubu suspended for 3 games I’m thinking it might be time to begin a bandwagon for the player that became the enduring image of the old FPL site after the end of last season. Yes, I am talking about Steven Fletcher.

Currently at 5.9m and with 2.3% ownership, his last 4 scores have been 8,8,4 and 6 (pre baps) against Arsenal away, Bolton away, Chelsea at home and Spurs away. Next 4 games are AVL, LIV, qpr, WBA which takes us nicely up to around the time that Ba should be back. He has scored 9 goals in 1192 minutes this season. To put it another way, that’s a goal every 132 minutes. The only issue I can see is that his injury record isn’t great, hence why he’s only played 1192 minutes but from GW13 he has started all but one game.

Finally, he is certain to go up at least .1 in price this week and a double rise would not be a surprise. With Yakubu set to join Ba in getting massive transfers out many managers will be bringing in similarly priced strikers. With the exception of Morison, no other forward in the price range has the recent form to match Fletcher’s.

To summarise: form, fixtures, cheap, differential and profit to be made.

Is this team in need of a Wildcard? The players in capitals are those who I want to transfer out.

    Vorm | Krul
    P JONES | Assou-Ekotto | Jose Enrique | McAuley | Simpson
    NANI | Silva | Bale | Walters | McClean
ADEBAYOR | STURRIDGE | Van Persie

If not, can you suggest any transfers? I've only got 1 FT and 1.6m in the bank. Not willing to take any hits when I've still got my WC.

      no need for wc

p jones be back next game and nani will play

leaving you with adebayor on the bench and possibly sturridge on the bench, if it's the case you have a strong midfield to counter this so someone can drop into the team if he is dropped.

You're fine. Sturridge will be back in the starting eleven. Adebayor is worth keeping for Wigan. Walters and McClean both have a good fixture so going 3-5-2 for one week isn't a problem. Jones should play but with the fixtures I'd get rid anyway. Fulham have two home games so one of their defenders would be a good option.

      your team for nxt wk
Vorm / Krul - equally difficult fixtures
Enrique, McAuley, Simpson - not much potential for points here (maybe a Liverpool cleansheet)
Nani, Silva, Bale, Walters, McClean (Nani Silva Bale all tough games)
      Sturridge, Van Persie

If you assess by fixtures then it looks bleak for you, If you assess by form then you're not too bad as your entire midfield and RVP are great - I wouldnt be surprised if City Spurs and Arsenal V United both finished 3-3 anyway!!

If you know who you want in your WC team and they have better fixtures than those you want out, then do it. If not then wait...

Nani was poor. Dallied on the ball, didnt pass it quick enough. Didnt get any crosses I can remember into the box and I cant remember him beating his man at all....

Valencia never stopped running and was always an outlet. He linked very well with Silva (far batter than Nani with Evra) consistently beat his man, got to the bye line a lot and put a load of crosses in, Rooney should have scored 2 or 3.

Every game is different with Nani tho, he could score 2 nxt week but on the evidence of 'todays game' I'd go with Valencia.....
