A busy Saturday on the tightrope saw plenty of jostling for position in the rogues gallery with yellow cards for a number of familiar faces, and a significant red for long term Fantasy favourite, Yakubu.

Now into his tenth season in English football, the portly Nigerian has been as much a constant in the goalscoring charts as he has been absent from the disciplinary ones. However, guilty of planting a full set of studs on Danny Murphy’s knee in the 3-1 win over Fulham, ‘The Yak’ duly picked up his first Premier League red and will now sit out the next three Gameweeks (eve, NEW, ars).

In the yellow card stakes, Yakubu’s teammate Jason Lowe still leads the way having picked up 8 cautions in his first 19 games for the club, but with 3 games in the New Year now completed without adding to that tally he’s seen John Terry last week, and now Lee Cattermole draw level with him, following his booking in the 1-0 loss at Chelsea. All three now sit just 2 cards away from a two-match ban.

Yellow cards also for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Wolves’ Karl Henry bring them into the mix forming a fearsome quartet with Joey Barton and Gary Caldwell on 7 yellows for the season, while new faces joining the growing band on 6 bookings were Chelsea pair, David Luiz and Raul Meireles and the Stoke captain, Ryan Shawcross.

GAMEWEEK 22 BANS

  • Yakubu Aiyegbeni (BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Luis Suàrez (LIV) – FA charge (fifth of 8 matches)
  • Vincent Kompany (MCI) – 1 Red for serious foul play (third of 4 matches)

this is similar to what I did except I took even more of a gamble and picked up keane. Honestly I don't think this is a bad idea, tottenham's fixtures are tightening up, fletcher seems to score no matter who he plays. The only concern I have is that Liverpool is failing to find the net and not even starting carroll who imo is one of their only attacking options up to, sub par I know, but still. I went ahead and got Gerrard in though thinking with him play making it will pick up in the next couple of weeks.

Ade - Fletcher sure but a 4 point hit for Gerrard overa goalscoring midfielder like VDV who plays oop as an auxillary fwd.
He could score 2 against anyone, especially the for Spurs are in.
Liverpool have managed only 7 goals in their last 8 games too

No no no, I think you're mad!!

          Not so simple
Adebayor wont play anyway, transfer him out but then you miss his home game V wigan the following week.
With Adebayor in the stands I think VDV will prob play an even more prominent role in attack and City dont have Toure or Kompany.
Keep VDV and your 4 points

Well he's started the last 5 games and was even on the bench for the FA cup game so he must be fit and he will play their biggest game of the season.

I'd have Given for Schwarzer - check their rotation
Wouldnt have a swansea defender with their fixtures either,
Nani to Valencia at the moment then you've the cash for Ba when he's back

Don't like Villa defence but I will consider it
Caulker is there for when they have a nice fixture such as NOR(H) in a few GW's
I prefer Nani to Valencia and I'll find a way of getting Ba back.

not sure i agree, Given has proved a bad idea this season even with good fixtures. Loads here like Valencia but i fear rotation (or RB) once Young is fit. Fletcher is not a good lng term option but short term looks good. Maybe Silva over Nani but otherwise like

I see Villa have improved as the season has gone on and now with Given back I'm backing them for clean sheets - literally! I went with the given sorensen combo. Warnock, Dunne, Colline etc are all good defenders too....

I agree with you on Valencia but Joes, Smalling and da Silva are all fit for nxt week and Young is still 3 weeks away.

Nani to Silva could be the one if your not convinced on Valencia

i know this is a ridicuous question, almost like a newb question, but why do players keep their same price tag even when entering a new season? and not reset back to an optimum minimum or maximum for a new start to the season? for all we know a player could be woth 30 mill by year 2014/15 lol. remember ronaldo? just kept rising and rising.....

The players that go up by the most will probably start higher than ended the previous years.

e.g. RVP started at 12m this year and ended 2010/11 at 11m.

yes but this is what i am asking, WHY does this happen? and not reset back to a fee where people can afford them and accomodate a nicely grounded team to begin with then watch them simply rise again as the season develops?

I think they do some points per game calculation when the seasons finished and come up with all new prices....
The other this is availability. Example, when Ronaldo left every other scoring midfielders becomes more valuable cos more people will buy em in Ronaldo's absence...

          just guessing tho......

Who knows? It's probably to make it more of a challenge.

it makes sense to change their values based on how they did the previous year. for example, next year nasri will probably be priced much cheaper as he hasn't gotten many points whereas silva will probably start off as a 10 or 10.5 option, maybe even 11 and rvp will probably start 12.5 or 13 if he keeps on scoring at the same rate he has. I think they change the prices to reflect the value of the player/how well they did the year before

Well I bought Silva at 9.5, so if he stays at 10.3 I'd lose 0.4, I'd only do it if he's gonna drop further though.

      Don't be daft

Even although this is, I think, my 8th WC in FF history, and the previous seven have all been major disappointments, I just KNOW that this wildcard will see me soar into the top 5 global

I'm not kidding - my current WC team is theoretically, statistically, UN-IMPROVABLE.

Until next Saturday, then I hate it. And all of you.

You know what really grates me, as a fellow Liverpool fan, is that in five seasons of FF the only Red coverage I've had in my squad has been Enrique this year, some Gerrard a few seasons ago, and a few brief dabbles in Torres and Maxi.

Didn't pick up Kuyt or Meireles for their goal runs last year?
Or punt on Suarez from the start this year?

I try not to be too partisan in my team selections - I even have Rooney occasionally, but i won't be getting Evra. Gerrard is tempting me now, even though i know it won't work..

Oh man, feels so good to get rid of Adebayor on the wildcard

I reckon if Spurs get Champ League next year and have the extra money, Harry will send Ade back, and if he can get a REAL clinical finisher then Spurs really will be a force next year

Even although he's scored a few goals, for the amount of chances he's had I'd say Ade was a fail this season - better than what they had obviously but for a big name striker getting the service he's been getting he's not worth the massive wages

Just imagine Edinson Cavani leading the line.

I'd hate that though, as I'm still clinging onto the dream that Madrid take Hernandez for £30m and Cavani is bought. He's like van Nistelrooy, and I miss him a lot.

    thinking about wildcarding.

    current team is:

    vorm - krul
    jones - kelly - BAE - wilkinson - simpson
    nani - bale - silva - cabaye - moses
    RVP - adebayor - sturridge.

i can afford (with .3 in the bank):

    vorm - krul
richards - agger - evans - caulker - santon (or williamson)
    silva - bale - valencia - sessegnon - moses
RVP - aguero - sturridge (prob change to ba when he gets back).

any thoughts? i'm sweating on prices a little because i'd like to hold out until gw24 but i'm currently on 14 points for the week (with captain gone) and feeling a little kneejerky.

Do Jones to Richards now then cos Richards is going up and Jones is coming down tonight.
Get sess for done tonight as well
The rest should all be the same price tomorrow.
Wait until Cabaye plays before taking him out. A good game and he may rise again or you may decide to keep him
