David Silva recovers from an ankle problem to help Man City pick up another win. Rio Ferdinand could miss out at the weekend after suffering from concussion, Ryan Taylor has no qualms about playing in central midfield, while Stephen Ireland is finally settling at Villa.

Silva gave his Fantasy owners a significant boost by recovering from an ankle injury in time to take on Wigan last night. The Spaniard set up City’s only goal and his twelfth assist of the season means he has now drawn level with Gareth Bale as top-scoring midfielder in FPL. With Mario Balotelli again absent with an ankle problem, Edin Dzeko led the line once again, joining Sergio Aguero up front. Dzeko’s winner was his first goal since gameweek 11, though it’s clear he is more than capable when given a chance in the starting XI, with 11 goals in 11 starts so far this season.

Micah Richards missed out for City last night with a hamstring problem but Roberto Mancini expects the right-back to be available for next week’s home showdown with Tottenham. Another clean sheet –despite Vincent Kompany also being sidelined due to suspension- means City have conceded a single goal in their last six fixtures and with a strong run of games on the horizon, investment in their defence looks essential. City’s narrow 1-0 win continued their lack of real attacking threat on the road- the league leaders have scored just 3 goals in their last five away games, compared to 15 in their last five at the Etihad.

Reports suggest Rio Ferdinand is an early doubt for Man United’s trip to the Emirates this weekend. The centre-half suffered concussion in last Saturday’s win over Bolton and, post-match, took to twitter to say he couldn‘t remember the game. Ferdinand will be closely monitored and is expected to undergo a series of tests by the club’s medical department before a decision over his availability is made.

Ryan Taylor has admitted he is happy to play anywhere right now for Newcastle. Taylor’s versatility once again saw him change roles for Alan Pardew’s side in Sunday’s win over QPR- starting at right midfield, he moved central after an injury to Yohan Cabaye and admitted yesterday he is comfortable with the position:

It was maybe just a one-off because we lost Yohan early on. There were a couple of replacements on the bench but they didn’t have much experience so I think the manager was prepared to use my experience and versatility. It’s not like I’ve never played in centre midfield before. I played there throughout my youth but you become less familiar with the role. However, if the gaffer wants me to play in any position, I will.

Stephen Ireland reckons Alex McLeish is finally starting to trust in his abilities after a slow start to his Aston Villa career. Ireland struggled to make an impact in the previous regime under Gerard Houllier but is now finally stepping up in performance. Ireland has started the last three games for Villa and has returned 1 goal, 2 assists and 4 bonus points for his Fantasy owners. At 5.6, he’s reasonably priced and offers perfect home and away rotation with Jonathan Walters- given the Stoke man’s poor performances on the road, it makes Ireland a somewhat intriguing prospect. The player said yesterday:

Probably since I first got here I haven’t been given that trust – but I have now. And I’m improving game by game. I’ve just been out of the game so long. Now I’m getting a good run of games and I feel like I’m getting better and much fitter. I’m working as hard as I can and thanks to the gaffer he has been playing me and giving me a run of games. I feel like I’m getting there. I’m going in the right direction and the more football I get it will improve.

Paul Lambert may be forced to dip into the market for a back-up keeper after Declan Rudd was ruled out for up to two months. The Canaries had to draft teenage keeper Jed Steer onto the bench for the trip to West Brom last weekend and Lambert admitted yesterday that he may need more cover, with Rudd set to undergo ankle surgery.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Bale could easily break down that City defence. Wigan even looked like breaking it in the 2nd half yesterday and they are rock bottom of the league.

I'm benching him this week fot Moses. Then playing @home against Wigan obviously BUT after then selling for Walters.

Bale has liv, NEW, ars, MUN.
Walters has SUN, ful, SWA, NOR.

If you look at Bale's history he's managed against top sides (ars, liv, mun, mcy, che) only 1 assist in 5 games. All of his big scores have come against poor sides.

ditch Nani, recent form is rubbish and Man U have some tough fixtures coming up. BAE I'd ditch as well due to fixtures and get Raylor instead, and get shotton instead of simpson

Not sure about Fletcher either a bit of a gamble, i prefer morrison for value but that one is a flip of a coin

    Krul (Ruddy)
    Enrique, Senderos, Wilkinson (BAE, Simpson)
    Nani, Bale, Silva, Ireland (Moses)
    RVP, Adebayor, Sturridge

    1.1 in the bank.

If you didn't have Sturridge, I would say Torres. Maybe Fletcher? Would allow you to take a one-week punt on VDV (Ireland>VDV?) next week. That's what I'm going with at least

Maybe around 70k, can't really remember! The problem this year I find is that I can't see where the next big points haul is coming from. It's all so random, apart from RVP. In the past you just had to stick with the fixtures, like Torres at home when he was good. Now Rooney's in and out, Chelsea have no big striker, Aguero and Silva are regular rather than explosive. Unless we get snow, I can't see much hope!

        - You said Kelly was a left back
        - You said Newcastle are gonna start concedeing goals, thats fair enough if thats your opnion, but people asked what this was based on and you didnt answer
        - You said getting Fletcher was a knee-jerk, considering his goal scoring record, how exactly is that a knee-jerk?
        - You said Cahill will definetly go straight in the Chelsea team based on the fact hes scored 2 goals, u did say clearances too but i very much doubt any manager in history has bought a defender because of his goal scoring record.

Theirs a few to get you started.

Looks good, the way these weeks are going I'll bet Drenthe doesn't play and Fox comes into your team with 3 assists.

Agree about the Hibbert 0 or 90, Moyes always seems to juggle from the midfield forward with his subs.

have had Kompany since GW1 so not keen on taking him out just for the Spurs game, after which he's back. Richards has missed a few games due to rotation and injury.

Evans is not a bad shout but also had Jones since he cost 5.6 so wouldn't be able to get him back, and he should be fine for this weekend latest the next one

Am having doubts about bringing Sturridge into my team.People on here are saying he's going to go straight back in the team, am not too sure. Reason, AVB has to play Bosingwa(could play Luis) at Rightback. IMO i think it's possible that Sturridge could have been benched and AVB preferred to have the extra defensive coverage that Ramires gives? Plus now with have to factor Essien into the equation. He could slot into a midfield 3 of either Lampard/Romeu/Meireles/Essien and AVB could keep Ramires on the right. This could possible push Sturrigde into his prefered role as centre forward and become a rotation risk with Torres and Drogba?

Am not sure how Chelsea will line up over the next few weeks any thoughts?

As a Liverpool fan I hope he leaves out Sturridge for the rest of the season then Chelsea definitely wonn't make top 4. He's been their outstanding player along with Mata this season

On track for my worst ever FPL season! (this is my fifth!) and i genuinely cant work out why! currently well outside the top 200k, despite finishing last 2 years in top 1k.
Have barely taken any hits, only done a few awful Sat morning changes...
Maybe i've been too patient -held onto Rooney for too long for instance- playing the fixtures instead of form in general.
Is anyone else really struggling? Just cant work out what i'm doing wrong...!

Does seem to be a casual players season this year. Last year I do remember the second half of the season being much easier, picking the right players was more obvious and they performed. This season however, you pick the right players, coming onto form, hitting good fixtures and then they don't score/assist/keep a clean sheet. That can't happen forever though.

      Persistance will shine through.

Going to keep plugging away, just feel that im not making any headway!
Maybe a good WC will help...not that i've got any idea how im going to use it yet...!

Weird thing is, even your other finishes were all within 50k give or take. I cant even fathom getting near that at the moment...

Playing the fixtures is so last season.

You know when your season is in tatters when your worst ranking gameweek of the whole season is a double gameweek.

you were incredibly unlucky Granville...but you're still doing pretty well overall...
Think you're right about the fixtures though...hasnt worked at all for me this year...
Had O'Hara, Sess, Baines, Rooney, VdV, Nani and others at various times when their fixtures screamed points...but nada...

There is some chatter about taking a punt on Torres the 2 GW's (Including myself against my better judgement). Anyone thinking of the same 2 GW punt on Bent? He seems to be comming in to form and good fixtures. (wol/QPR).
    Then swap him for Aguero.

At some point he has to. Likely to get an assist more though with Van der Vaart and Adabeyor upfront.

afternoon all, how you doing? im thinking i should pull the trigger and play my wildcard this week due to my side looking a little on the light side: -

    vorm

    *cahill enrique brown*

    bale walters nani silva b.johnson*

    rvp sturridge*

krul bae evans* ade* (1 free transfer - 1.8 in the bank)

    * = ruled out or not certain to start

ideally i would have liked to wait until after gw23 to play my wildcard but i think i'm looking at a potential mare of a week if i don't take action - what say you?
