Promoting Bobby Zamora as a Fantasy prospect is no easy feat. There is his injury record for a start. Then there’s a lack of confidence, which has blighted him for long stints throughout his career. He is also rumoured to have had a rocky relationship with his manager Martin Jol, who has left him out of the team for weeks at a time already this season. When he is full of confidence and injury free, has the faith of his manager and a string of beautiful fixtures, though, then the rewards can be huge.

Currently all four of those boxes are ticked. Seemingly back in favour with Jol, he looks set to add substantially to this season’s tally of 61, which includes two double-digit Gameweeks. After being left out for five weeks, apart from a six-minute cameo against Manchester United in Gameweek 17, he has played the full 90 minutes in Fulham’s last two games.

Jol is adamant Zamora is well-loved, even referring to him earlier this year as “my main striker.” This is a clear indication he is back in the fold. The Cottagers boss also insists Zamora’s prolonged absence over the festive period was purely down to an Achilles injury and refutes any suggestion of a spat.

Fixture-wise Fulham’s upcoming schedule seems hugely appealing, with the team traveling to QPR and hosting (NEW, WBA, STK) in the next five game weeks. In addition, Zamora also appears to be high on confidence right now; his last couple of gameweeks have seen him notch the winner against Arsenal and hit the woodwork.

It is also worth noting that with a points per game average of 4.4, he sits just 0.1 behind Clint Dempsey. The American is already a staple of many January wildcard teams, despite costing 8.5 compared to Zamora’s price tag of 6.6.

It may well prove to be a rocky ride for those Fantasy managers brave enough to join the 2.6% who have already selected the former Brighton, Spurs and West Ham striker. There’s little doubt his acquisition would be a definite punt, but he may well prove to be that key differential to help Fantasy managers soar up their mini-leagues like the seagull Zamora once was.

I wont sell Enrique unless he injured. Season keeper for me , although he did only cost me 5

Im in a dilema with ekotto who also only cost me 5 (or5.1) fixtures are tough , but there the home game against norwich to look forward to , and he good assist material. The rest of my defence ccan cover for him when they have tough games , so thinking of keeping him.

Am going to manage without a city defender for next three weeks (their fixtures not that great and my fulham and stoke defenders + enrique should be fine Maybe will get Kompany back for theor home game with fulham , but dont see the rush tbh

Simpson v Santon v Williamson. All cost me 4.2. Which 1 & why. Asked before with mixed results. Favouring Santon for attacking potential even though he's probably the least nailed on (or is he?)

Im not well informed but I read somewhere that Raylor could be taking Santon's place once Tiote's back and Newcastles looking for a new CB as well.

So I just think it wont be worth it to waste a transfer later on, might as well just stick with Simpson and be done with it. But of course getting Santon could turn out great though.

hey guys. Asked this before but now trying with you lot. Three options here: first one has super strikers and a bad defense, but its my usual strategy at this game. Second team is one that is evenly balanced, with Aguero up front. Third one has a mega defense, with Rooney up front and a less-than-great mdifield. Which do you guys prefer?

    vorm lind
shotton simpson caulker senderos Enrique (becomes Kompany next week)
    Silva walters sess Bale dyer
    rooney aguero RVP

    vorm lind
    senderos huth simpson caulker Enrique/Kompany
    silva bale valencia demps dyer
    aguero studge rvp

    vorm lind
    simpson senderos Richards huth Enrique/Kompany
    silva bale sess walters dyer
    rooney RVP studge

also, with this third team, I am considering Caulker instead of huth so I can have Dempsey instead of walters.

    Which do you all prefer?

Yeah, I think that's the one I want, too. It's becoming easier and easier to picture.

While I've got your attention, my friend, I'm becoming very worried about Dempsey, and I kinda want Walters. In addtion, I am getting worried about Sturridge startings.

What do you say about this

        Lindegaard, Vorm
        Enrique/Kompany, Huth, senderos, Caulker
        Valencia, Bale, Silva, Walters, Dyer
        Bobby Z, RVP, Aguero?

BZ's home record is SUPER impressive, yes. But he's kinda injury prone and could be a gamble.

As you said yourself, you don't need to play catch up. So Dempsey's the safer option in the Ful attack & you don't want to be without Chelsea attack with these decent fixtures + form returning for us.

If you really believe in Walters' potential, you could get him instead of Valencia too and then get Valencia back in GW28. That's purely playing fixtures over form, but who's to say it won't work.

Na, I want Valencia right now for sure. 8 mil is the perfect amount of money I want in United with those fixtures.

Aren''t you scared of Sturridge not starting? Nothing positive at all in today's press release, and lets be fair, your manager is a complete idiot.

Also, I'm starting to think Dempsey is REALLY expensive for what you get. I mean, I save almost 2 million if I go with Walters instead, who has scored just as much this season.

I guess bobby Z being injury prone isnt scary either, considering Im just getting Ba back (probably) when he returns.

BZ + Walters is a great punt. Go for it then! I'm confident about BZ's potential, not so much about Walters. Also Dempsey seems to have started playing a bit further back with the return of BZ....so guess it all points to BZ + walters.

Really? Where did you read that? I watched AVB's press conference & I felt super confident from his comments about him starting if fit. I'm mostly giving him the armband too!

I only read the summary, but all I saw was AVB saying they were on good terms, and that he was fit, but only that Sturridge is 'in contention.'

I will say this: If I keep him in my team, hes gonna be my captain.

Although if he isn't in my team........I may well end up with Lampard for a week

That's old news now Newman. AVB has also rubbished all rumors of Studge having discomfort about not starting in the centre. Looks to me, all is well at the Bridge. If you notice Ramires is a far from decent winger & doesn't seem to have the same freedom on the right wing that he has a CM.

Lamps is a great one week punt too if you decide to go with BZ!

Tiote is a midfielder. Santon plays at LB. Being a newcastle fan the only rotation risk i would worry about is R Taylor who was never a natural LB and is playing RMid now.

Santon has the most chance to score points other than CS. Hes fast and has crossing ability and also has the odd shot at goal.

D Solid, should hold and at 3.9 Kelly is worth the 2xFul punt

mid doesn't take my breath away, but should score well, for how little moses scores, I'll take more of a time bomb at my 4.5 value chance, someone on form alone like McClean/BJohnosn or hell Reo Coker

In my opinion, chasing a lead is more of a reason to AVOID stupid picks, not go for them.

For the record, I'm all for taking risks, but taking SMART ones.

Well its a one or two week punt.

I had Yak who screwed me over last week. and he was my only differential over the leader. then look what happened.

anyway my MF and Back is pretty decent anyhow so having torres in wont be THAT much of a risk?

                Agree?

To me, yes, it is a risk, because its 10 mil on a player who isn't going to do anything. Plus, that two week punt is on the road. Weak teams, but still on the road.

seriously, just pick and under 7 mil striker and splurge on a better defender.

I'm bringing Torres in for a one week punt, then wild carding. If he does well i may hold on to him.

Sure no one knows anything for sure.

but what we do know is how bad he has been for almost two years. What we do know is how rarely he has scored over those two years, especially the last one. Past data shows what a totally awful choice he is.

I for one hope he comes good again, and not just fantasywise. He was a joy to watch when he was on form.
Question is when? I would hate to think he's lost it for ever.

You can hope all you like, it doesn't really increase the odds that he will. Even when he was on form, he was lazy. I'm fine with him never coming good, if only because its Chelsea.

I do think he has lost it for good. 6 months without playing well can be described as a dry spell. 2 years? Thats something else.

Get rid of Dempsey, yes he might have a good run of fixtures but I don't trust any side that gets spanked 3-1 to a 10 man Blackburn.

Walters is a cheaper option and generally tends to do well at home. McClean could be a punt too which would free up A LOT of cash.

If you're on WC then I'd get rid. I can't see him scoring at City all of a sudden after some rancid displays of late.

I always think you should have at least one cheapo in your front 8 to ensure a minimal amount of heartache (even though its not a sure thing, ie, Dyer lately) I just think you'll have problems deciding who to bench.

I am one of those aguero>rooney types at the moment, as well.

They rotate really well, in all fairness. I just think its too much to be paying for rotators. In all honesty, you're not going to want Sess at all in two weeks, so why not downgrade ireland to Dyer and get Valencia for Sess, or upgrade Enrique after this week to Kompany.

That's my other opinion: 3 city players is a must. If you're opting out of aguero, you need Silva/Richards, and Komp, imho.

Haha sorry about that. The last line. City have lost that sting to kill teams - they're happy to go 1-0 these days even to weaker teams. 3 players not really a must - maybe 2.

to me, if theyre happy to go 3-0, that run of fixtures just means doubling on defense is a must. They're fixtures and quality are both WAY to high not to go all in, even if it is just Silva and two defenders.

I agree if you have to get 3 City players, 2 defenders is the right way to go.

But I don't agree it's not outright compulsory to own two 6+ mil City defenders. You can always have other decent cheapos & upgrade your midfield. How much points are you going to lose if you don't an extra City defender - say 3 extra CS over 5 games. But if you are able to get say Walters/Sess over McClean/Moses or Nani/Bale/Silva/Mata over Valencia/Dempsey, I can easily see them making up for those 12 points. 🙂

Elnino Good point I guess. Perosnally, I think Aguero/Silva/Kompany is the way to go, but I do think you can have all those decent midfield punts. For example: I see Walters and Valencia scoring every bit as much as Nani, Dempsey, and Mata over the next 6 or so. If those midfielders become bargains, then the extra money works perfectly for doubling on what should surely be a whole lot of cleanies for city.

....even if I am going with Aguero anyway.

Looking at the fixtures then doubling up on Richards and Kompany makes sense after the Spurs match.

I'd put Santon in for Raylor this week and then next week could upgrade Enrique to Kompany and still have 0.8 in the bank.

Kompany's back in GW 23 so that's definitely an option.

If I were to go with my original outline plan then I could just take out Rooney for Aguero this week so start Richards/Silva/Aguero this week and bring in Kompany for Richards next week since I'll now have 1.6 in the bank.

Horizontal - not convinced about doubling up on Sunderland defence. Also not sure about Turner & Mignolet's nailed-on-ness - Richardson could easily continue at LB with O'shea & Brown at CB. Get Caulker IMO - dangerous to go w/o Swansea at the back. Front 8 look perfect.

Thanks for the feedback. I have enough money to upgrade Richards to Kompany and Turner to Brown once they're both back in business. Rooney to Aguero is my plan for next week, or downgrade Raylor to Santon to free up cash. I reckon Mignolet is nailed on until Gordon's return, and maybe even after that. Turner will do me for the time being since Brown and Killgallon are out. I'm obviously putting a lot of faith in MON. 🙂

Been through the mill re Swansea and really don't think I'd play them for the next few weeks except for home at Norwich.

Hmmm interesting. It's just that ideally with a WC you'd like to not make too many changes for the next 3-4 weeks in order to save up for unexpected injuries & I can see you require to make quite a few. Good luck though 🙂

i actually might keep the Yak for a while…hear me out…already did my FT nani > silva this gwk

I bought at 5.5, currently selling for 5.8 (so i can take .3 drop in price or so). I don’t believe in the Fletch wagon atm…

my front 8 is Bale Silva Dempsey Walters Sess – RVP Aguero Yak.
I run into an issue next gwk with Walters away to utd but other gwk I can get by benching yak and playing 3-5-2. This way I can hold next week without a transfer and then do Sess Shotton > Moses Huth for free in gwk 24 (and bench Yak). Then the Yak gets the start v QPR H gwk25

Just like last season I have a free WC that I don't need to play!! Shame I can't save it for later.

Would you change any of this lot?
    Vorm Krul
Jose Walker Raylor JEvans Gabbidon (replaced by new QPR def e.g. Taiwo)
    Nani Silva Bale Walters Dyer
    RVP Aguero Studge

Currently looking at Walker vs. Huth
Would like Kompany but who would you sell to allow me to trade up Walker? (0.1m in the bank)

I know he's unhappy playing on the right, but Chelsea don't have many other forward options with Drogba and Kalou at the ACON. Unless Mata plays on the right and Malouda on the left (which I can't see happening), Sturridge should play.

He played every game for Chelsea until his injury, he is back now

Does the manager of every team have to come out before every game and say "This player is starting" before you actually believe he is going to start?

Common sense would have had Sturridge starting last week, considering all reports said he was 100% healthy. But he didn't start.

Common sense would be sincerely wondering if he has lost his place. AVB is a poor enough tactician that its a possibility.

hows yor WC looking overall newman? care to swap plans? Im bringing in sturridge. I think whatever discipline AVB wanted to show Sturridge has already occured last week. To not use him a 2nd straight game would surely burn bridges beyond repair, and I dont think that is in the club's best interests. Hopefully AVB knows how to manage egos as well. He should hopefully have convinced that sturridge's time in the spotlight will come.

yeah, but here's my problem: AVB is a complete tactical idiot, and I would not put it past him to leave his best natural goalscorer on the bench.

I'm seriously considering Zamora, and well before this article. I want Fulham coverage and I just don't like Dempsey's price.

Here's what I'm on as of now:

          Lindegaard, Vorm
Huth, Senderos, Caulker, Simpson, Enrique (becomes Kompany next week)
          Valencia, Silva, Bale, Walters, Dyer
          RVP, Aguero, Zamora

2.7 in bank....which, I know, is way way too much. I just like what is there a lot.

What do you have right now?

            Sorensen, Lindegaard

            Richards, Huth, Riise, JEvans, WIlliamson

            Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sessegnon, Dyer

            RVP, Aguero, Sturridge

.2 in bank, enough to do sess->walters in 2 weeks if i still like that plan, also insurance for richards to become kompany or williamson to become simpson, or a keeper to be replaced if necessary.
didnt think id bring evans, but you mentioned above and i found it to be the case, that a good 3rd defender for gws 23 and 25 is hard to find if your other 4 are fulham, stoke, city and newcastle.
my biggest issue is taking on dempsey and riise without question. will probably downgrade riise to senderos, but was happy with everything else, and he is soooo overdue for some attacking returns.

I like that you have all those planned usages for the .2....all of those could be very useful and wise.

Linmdegaard AND Evans is risky to me: the fixtures aren't good. Agreed that 23 and 25 are key, though, so I certainly understand that.

Riise is just way, way too expensive. I get the appeal, I really do, but its too much for an inconsistent side.

Dempsey is becoming quite a problem for me. Great fixtures, penos, and always leads his team in shots. But that price is kinda crazy when Walters ans Sess are both there.

I like the team, though. Obviously, United attack is a concern, and Dempsey's price is meh, but if Sturridge starts I like it.

riise is almost a result of the timing of my WC. If i had waited a couple more gws like i wanted to, i wouldnt have focused on Fulham. I get too fixture happy i suppose. Any other time of year, Riise wouldnt have been a consideration. I really think if you can afford dempsey and sess, and have the funds to do sess->walters in gw 24, you can get the best out of all of them.

I guess that is a really good point. My problem is that I want Valencia along with the obvious Bale and Silva. Dyer is the obvious 5th, but then its tricky. I can't get Dempsey AND one of the others. It's between the three of them and I am really starting to think Walters will score just as well as Dempey for the next 6. Granted, Fulham have good fixtures for 8 weeks, two more than Walters, but I'm still not sure that will be money well spent.

now i feel like we've beaten you into submission. 😉 all these opinions are based on circumstances and likelihood, nothing is concrete. Could Dyer outscore mata? Of course. Odds are though if mata gives you a 2, so will dyer. If that happens, look to get rid of mata because its clear you dont fancy him. But give him one more run out. There should be goals a plenty in that game.

He might drop down to where I end up not losing insane cash in the sell/buyback scenario. Bought him in week 9 at 6.3, sold in wk 21 when was at 7.5, so got 6.9 out of him. If he could just drop another 0.1-0.2...., might not be insane to reattain.

hhmm.... Tempted to play Moses away at QPR. I feel he may be able to get something there & this leaves me the best possible chance for all players to score well.

i set my WC up to avoid this situation as often as possible, but it basically comes down to the quality of players involved. Say i had Dempsey and Raylor, Id probably play both. Raylor has the attacking potential. If it were Dempsey and Simpson, i wouldnt be so inclined.

Yeah, I'd dump Ferguson, but Surman has gone 75+ in 8 of last 9, and during that time of regular play is about 4.5 points per 90. That's a decent insurance policy for 4.4.

sure, surman is ok as a 5th mid, its just to see him as your 4th thats the issue.

True, so I'd try to upgrade Ferguson to a #4, somehow and keep Surman as a #5. Dump Nani for Walters (I was listening 🙂 ) and then take some of that 4ish in money and upgrade Ferguson to someone in the 6-7m range as well.

This will probably be my WC team, it's of the generic kind.
    Vorm Krul
    Richards Cahill Evans Senderos Naylor
    Silva Bale Dempsey Sessegnon Dyer
    RvP Rooney Fletcher

naylor can easily be caulker and pocket the rest. if swansea had a good run of fixtures, id understand paying for a little more attacking potential, but they don't and you probably wont play a swan most weeks. take that .4 and upgrade cahill to huth, and thank me around March 3rd.

Thanks but I've had Naylor since he costed 4.0 so I still could not afford Huth and while I agree that Huth might easily outscore Cahill and is a more secure choice, Cahill is my only "puntish" choice so I'm sticking for a while.

dont know about a punt on a 5.0+ defender when you have evans and naylor who both have a lot of unattractive fixtures in the next 6 or so. have you charted out your gws to see how your defenders fixtures look?

Yes, GW24 is poor, otherwise I'll manage I think. But you are both right, I'll look into it.

I'd only be worried about Evans (tough fixtures for next 6) & Cahill (mins?) the rest is fine.

Thanks. Micah (who will most likely become Kompany soon) will play every game, the others will rotate. Since Evans is cheap I have no problem in keeping him on the bench. Cahills minutes (and to a degree, fixtures) are a problem but I'll give him a few weeks.

Do we think that Valencia will be effective with Vermaelen playing as Arsenal's LB ??
Thinking of leaving him on bench over Bale,VDV and Steven Fletcher

Tough call. Double spurs v City @ home big call. could go either way.
I've actually gone Unitedless on my WC. Praying they don't explode v ARS as per the game earlier in the season.

Good point, I was highly recommending united midfield coverage with Arsenal's awful fullback situation but this sorts half of the problem out. It makes Valencia less attractive for sure - is Verm def playing LB?

Not sure about playing VDV over him though, playing a much tougher team.
