Landon Donovan’s return to Goodison on a two-month loan deal from LA Galaxy provided a welcome boost for the Everton faithful, who have so far endured a most unremarkable season. Having helped to ignite David Moyes’ side in a similar loan spell in 2010 with two goals and three assists, Donavon arrives with expectation heaped on his slight shoulders.

A smart assist for Victor Anicebe’s equaliser at Villa Park provided a glimpse of his talent, and in this latest article for Members, we examine Donavon’s impact so far to analyse his potential for his remaining weeks in England.

The first significant statistic to note is that Donavon has played every minute of every game since he became eligible. David Moyes threw him straight into the action in the 2-1 home defeat to Bolton and the American played the full 90 minutes in the trip to Spurs in the same Gameweek. Donovan looks to be a nailed-on starter, then.

Moyes has so far deployed Donovan on the right-flank, playing in front of Tony Hibbert against Bolton and then Phil Neville in the last couple of fixtures. He held this role for the trip to White Hart Lane, although he tended to tuck in far more in this game, joining midfield areas and looking to support Victor Anichebe and Louis Saha up front. He took up a similar position at Villa Park, drifting inside to provide the killer ball for Everton’s goal at Aston Villa. So far, though, that single assist has been the sole Fantasy contribution from Donovan over his three appearances but, as the ICT Index shows, it hasn’t been for a lack of trying.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Which Sunderland defender looks the best for the next gameweek and the long term? Bardsley seems the most secure but I have reservations about paying 4.8m for him - it's my wildcard at the moment and my defence currently looks like:

    Vorm, Sorensen
    Taylor R, Enrique, Simpson, Taylor, Richards

    I'm happy with my keepers but with the exception of perhaps Enrique and one Newcastle defender (not decided which yet), I'm not settled on any of my current defenders.

        I like your advice. 🙂 I'll keep Bardsley for now whilst sorting my Wildcard defence and then downgrade him if I need the extra capital.

        I may even take up your suggestion on Torres, although I'm not sure if I'm confident enough to captain him. 😛

        Yeah 4.8 for Bards is a very decent price for a gamble, only 0.3 more than Brown. I only read the Brown is a "possibility" against Swansea, no more than that, so you know who to play this week.

        Torres... I've just about managed to get to the end of the week without changing my mind

    Appreciate some considered opinion on my WC team before all the weekend bafoons descend:

    Krul Mignolet
    Senderos Caulker Skrtel ShawX Enrique
    Silva Bale Gerrard Sess Dyer
    RVP Aguero Fletcher

    GW23 - Swap Skrtel for Kompany (got the cash for this)
    GW24 - Swap Gerrard for Dempsey/Walters
    GW25 - Use cash to get Ba back for Fletcher

    Sound like a plan? Missing anything?

            Might be better getting in Walters for him so, as they have a run of four nice fixture after the next two GW's

    Cahill will start, avb has been looking to tighten up at back, he now knows bos/ luiz to be disasters of twin tower status. Chelsea back line reads Czech, Ivan, Cahill,terry,cole. And when terry gets ban luiz comes in. At 5.2 Cahill is good value on a back line that will gather more cs than they have been. You have been warned .

      Which 2 cheapies are the best for WC:
      Shotton, Kelly, Caulker, AN Other
      Or is Evans worth the extra 0.5 now? He can wait, surely?

      I have both 😉

      But if you can't afford Sess, then McClean is a good back-up

      One on one comparison with no regards on price, I would have sess. If I want them in my WC team, I would have mclean because of the money saved.

    An 8 pnt hit after last week's wild card disaster..! worth it?

    Vorm ~ Krul
    Evans J ~ Assou-Ekotto ~ Wilkinson ~ Simpson ~ Kelly
    Bale ~ Mata ~ Nani ~ Sessegnon ~ Dyer
    Yakubu ~ Van Persie ~ Rooney

    Yakubu -> Zamora
    Nani-> Dempsey
    Mata--> Lampard

    Any other good suggestion for this unlucky bugger?

    My WC mids and forwards are:

    Walters, Sess, Bale, Dempsey, Silva
    Fletcher, RVP, Aguero

    Is it madness to bench Aguero?

      Yes ... although I have the exact same 8 as you and am really struggling. Leaning towards benching Fletcher (or maybe Bale ... which seems mad).

        Cant bench RVP obviously. Fletcher is in sparkling form. Sess and Walters have gd fixtures. Silva, well nuff said. God guess it really is btween Dempsey and Bale!

        I would say a front 8 like that is set up for the foreseeable future. Easy to downgrade one and put money elsewhere. As long as your D is good enough, why not give it a go ...

          Ferdi cant play many games in a row. Smalling RB. Jones might play CB but I doubt it. Evans at 4.5, he is not really hurting your team.

    *************STATALERTSTATALERTSTATALERT******************

    Newcastle United have conceded 52% of their goals from set pieces, the highest percentage in the top division. I don't particularly fancy our chances of scoring so I'm tempted with a disloyal punt on Hangeland (c) - but then he hasn't had his scoring boots on this season.

    Anyone tempted?
