Last week’s posse of bets may have failed to bring home the bacon, but with a fresh note clutched in our determined mitt, we look to pitch our Fantasy thinking against Paddy Power’s odds, in another Flutter.

After a spell of defeats in the run up to Christmas, Stoke have slipped up just once in nine games, and that was a “gimme” at the hands of league leaders City. Although a secreted towel and a long-throw still play a major part in Tony Pulis’ tactics, teams have found ways to counter these methods, forcing Stoke to – whisper it – find quality on the ground. Jon Walters has been at the heart of this, always willing to push up to support the lofty talents of Peter Crouch, his prowess from the spot have seen Walters simmer as a strong mid-price midfield option all season. In the Picks again this week, Paddy post 4/1 on Walters to score and Stoke to gain a cleansheet against visiting West Brom, and thus our weeks tenner is broken, with £2 laid down.

Having missed five games this season, Steven Fletcher has had to work hard to rack up his impressive 81 Fantasy Premier League tally. Fletcher undoubtedly offers exceptional value for FPL managers and punters alike, and Paddy go 100/30 for him to score and Wolves to win against rivals Villa this weekend. Given that Fletcher has proved deadly in the air this term, we prefer to take a punt on him to score with a header at 8/1 for a quid.

Stephane Sessegnon may well be the key to Martin O’Neil’s Sunderland revival. To be fair to Steve Bruce, Sessegnon was performing well enough before he was turfed out, but there’s something about O’Neill that’s squeezed an end product from the lively attacker, to accompany the pace and trickery. Subject to heavy transfer activity in recent weeks, Fantasy managers will expect Sessegnon to feature with either goal or assist as Swansea visit the Black Cats, even though the visitors have put together a strong run of form of late. A Sessegnon goal and assist double at 10/1 is worth a £2 stake.

Our final market revolves around the glitzy world of celebrity Twitterer Joey Barton. The QPR skipper is not quite the Punch and Judy villain that Mario Balotelli has become, but nonetheless, he’s a great entertainer with his antics and indiscretions on and off the pitch. Paddy are tempting us in here with a “will he, won’t he” bet. Barton to avoid a yellow card and get a goal against Wigan is at 5/1. Since he’s racked up 8 cards in 18 games, this would normally be too much of a risk, but new managers can often bring out the best in players and change any leopard’s spots. We may even see Adel Taarabt’s ego humbled with Mark Hughes’ arrival – then again. If you want to firmly back a QPR revival under Hughes, Paddy are offing 14/1 on Barton to score and Rangers to earn the win against the visiting Latics. That’s well worth a sniff and earns our final stake slice.

Money Back Special

Paddy fast forward to Sunday’s big encounters to offer us a pair of Money Back Specials. If four or more goals are scored in City’s clash with Spurs they are refunding all losing first /last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on that match. They’re taking the same stance on the Arsenal vs United clash at the Emirates, so if Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie let loose, you could be line for a refund on your punt.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

I have Gerrard on the basis that he dominates Liverpool like RVP dominates the Arsenal...

But I don't know who to captain, Gerrard (bol), RVP (MU) or Aguero (TOT)

I am leaning to Gerrard (c) RVP (vc) but its hard not to pick RVP

    Any advice?

Very difficult decision to be honest, I'd go with and have gone with RVP, however, I think it's very difficult to pick the best captain this week

Bit risky but I see Drenthe as being more likely to score against Blackburn than Bale away at Man City and I realise playing Evans and captaining RVP is a bit strange but I expect all my defenders bar Enrique to let in goals and if Arsenal have an off day and/or Man U have a good day I won’t feel so bad due to an Evans clean sheet

    Vorm
    Williamson, Evans, Enrique
    Silva, Drenthe, Walters, Nani
    Aguero, RVP(C), Sturridge (VC)
Bench (in order): Ruddy, Bale, BAE, Caulker

    Is it looking OK?

Obviously this isn’t a WC team, for WC I am planning on Drenthe and Nani -> Dempsey/Valencia and Sess and upgrading Ruddy as well as changing a defender or 2 and possibly Sturridge depending on how he does this weekend (after making 1 change next week I will probably only be making a total of 3->5 changes for the WC as I am fairly happy with my current team and I always have my other WC to change things at a later date if needed).

So my one week flirt with Yakubu ended miserably. I'm not sure who to replace him with. I've always wanted Morison, but he doesn't always get a look in for BPs if he scores. Seems a few people are going for Fletcher, but I'm even looking at Crouch for someone a little different. I have 6.9 to play with, any suggestions?

I agree to be honest, just throwing an idea into the mix but I'm too risk averse for that move myself. Fletcher is the wisdom of the crowd but Crouch has great fixtures, I think your logic is sound, I'd probably go for Crouch if pushed.

Cannot make my mind up over Sturridge and Aguero for the next two weeks. Currently have Sturridge but can afford Aguero however undecided whether to keep Sturridge for two good looking fixtures dispite rotational issues and then bring Aguero in after the two weks or bring Aguero in now. Have MC coverage in Silva but nobody from Chelsea.

        Really?

Aguero - 3rd top scorer in the game. Good home form. Capable of a points haul against any opposition.

Sturridge - not nailed on to start, not great form. Probably won't get you more than 1 goal a game.

Saying that I do have both 🙂

Nobody is commenting on the team, so some concrete questions instead:

    1. Sessegnon for dark horse captain: yea or nay?
    2. Valencia on the bench, Dempsey and Bale in?
    3. Sorensen and O'Shea or Mignolet and Huth/Shawcross?

    Thanks!

      1. Not for me, Sunderland are improving but expectancy in Sunderland players to outperform overs is based on what??
      2. I have Bale on bench. See a cleanie for MC. So i am playing Dempsey and alencia with Bale on bench.
      3. I have gone with Mignolet and Huth. IMO, both guaranteed starters with Huth providing goal/assist potential.

        Done.
Sorensen > Mignolet. Better fixtures, too.
BAE, O'Shea > Huth, Rangel (was off 0.1 from Huth without dumping BAE and I had planned on Rangel originally, so will stash him on the bench for now)

Keeping Sess as C - what the hell, gotta take risks sometime.

Morning guys, could really do with a little advice. My team this week is:

    Vorm
    Enrique, Richards, Shotton
    Gerrard(c), Silva, Bale, Dempsey, McClean
    RVP, Fletcher

    Krul, Kelly, BAE, Ade

My problem is Shotton who may not play. I rate Stoke's CS chances to be higher than Fulham's so I would rather pick Shotton over Kelly. Normally with a defender who is an injury doubt I would play them anyway, thinking that they will either play 90 minutes or nothing. With Shotton being a utility player however I could easily see him coming on second half for the dreaded 1 pointer (or a 0 pointer, Stoke players are prone to bookings).

    So, Shotton or Kelly?

I'd go Kelly - too lazy to check the clean sheet odds (available on TotalFPL I think?) but sure there can't be much in it given Newcastle's toothless performance against QPR.

Yeah, totalfpl give Fulham 36.2% and Stoke 37%. Not much in it though in my opinion the gap should be bigger.

Seeing an injury ravaged Everton as favourites for a clean sheet this week against a Blackburn team that have scored in every away game (whether they've had Yak or not) has made me doubt the clean sheet odds.

Might be some money to be made if the bookies have it wrong!

Speaking as a Newcastle fan I doubt our ability to score today but I'm a natural pessimist and have been pleasantly surprised repeatedly this season so maybe you've got a better perspective than I have!

One last shot at advice on this one...

On WC (1.8 left in bank)

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    JoseEnrique – Terry – ShawX – (Raylor – Shotton)
    Silva – Bale – Sess – Dempsey – Walters
    RVP – Sturridge – (Graham)

Cup Opponent – before his move(s)
    Vorm (Westwood)
    JoseEnrique – BAE – Richards – Simpson – (Monk)
    Silva – Bale – Sess – Valencia – (Tiote)
    RVP – Sturridge – (Ade)

    I’m OK, right? Any thoughts/suggestions?

Mostly just going with Vorm weekly, and very rare Ruddy start. Landed there a while back when saving money on backup keeper. Could spring for some upgrade, but trying to be able to have money to go Graham>Ba in a few weeks.

After this week, Vorm at home vs Chelsea (I'd still start Vorm). Then after that, Vorm has no big challenges til GW28 when City comes to town. Ruddy has Wigan at home that week. Then OK w/Vorm again until GW31 @Spurs (Ruddy @ Fulham that week) and GW32, Newcastle comes to Swansea (Ruddy hosts Everton). Beyond GW32 it is Vorm for four straight against soft opposition. Given the money savings, there are only a couple weeks for rest of year that might be iffy.

No, I appreciate the input, seriously, I am not entirely determined. I just got burned by enough other non-Ruddy backups as well that I feel gun-shy about spending any money there. Still a few hours for me to agonize over this obviously world-important decision 🙂 .... sheesh, I really need to go to sleep.

i went with Sorensen, not really that much of a price difference... 0.2..
                Lindegaard is another 4.4 option...

both are definitely upgrades from Ruddy that wont break the bank

definitely drop Ruddy... i had that combo for a while, there are weeks when you will want to bench Vorm & Ruddy is a piss poor alternative...

        Obviously +1

Benching any of the others would be madness IMO.

      bold move captaining Dempsey...

other than that decent enough team... no pressing changes i can see if you dont want ManU attackers...
