With a better goals-per-game ratio in the Premier League than both Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, Darren Bent doesn’t seem a likely journeyman on paper. A veteran of five clubs before the age of twenty-seven, rumours are rife that Liverpool could be a sixth notch on the goalpost before he reaches twenty-eight. Scoring goals wherever he goes, Bent’s career mocks the notion that a player needs to settle to flourish.

Switching seamlessly from Sunderland to Aston Villa last January, nine goals in sixteen games for the midlands outfit capped a prolific campaign that propelled Bent over the 150 point mark in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) for the second consecutive year. With plenty goals in pre-season, Bent had no shortage of takers despite his double digit FPL valuation this term, as Villa embarked on a run of fixtures that seemed to forecast plain sailing. Out-gunned and undercut by Gabby Agbonlahor in September, a run of four goals in five games in October failed to prevent a steady stream of investors abandoning ship, and by the time a thigh injury consigned Bent to the treatment table in December, there were few lifeboats left to man.

Announcing his re-launch in style, Bent swept off the bench to score in Villa’s euphoric 3-1 victory at Chelsea on New Year’s Eve, and another sharp display against Everton last weekend bagged him a goal and three bonus points. Villa’s fixtures look strong in the short term, with a trip across town to Wolves this weekend immediately followed by a home tie against QPR and, with Agbonlahor failing to find the net since early November, Bent is once again the proud flagship of the claret and blue fleet.

The Wildcard window affords Fantasy managers the opportunity to restructure and rebalance their squads, and with few outstanding front-line options priced between 8.0 and 11.0, Bent -at 9.6- could prove the missing piece for a few managerial jigsaws. Liverpool’s courtship may provide further incentive to a player who seems to enjoy life in the shop window, and at 4.3% ownership, Bent is a differential with form, fixtures and proven FPL pedigree who may well furnish food for thought for many a Fantasy manager.

    Hey Guys

Just need some help on my team.

    Vorm
    Taylor Enrique Skrtl Baines
    Bale Dyer Sessegnon
    RVP Sturridge Ade

    Bench: Hart Walker Pilkington Cabaye

I’m planning on taking of Ade for either fletcher or Bent.

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

just not convinced by Gabby, and Wolves vs Villa has 0-0 written all over it, but to pick a Fulham striker means I'll him match up against Raylor this week.

Right, my 2 pence on the armband problem:

RVP - Hard to say. Can't really see him scoring heavily but I could very well be wrong. Either way, for the sake of variation, given the fact that I cap him at least every other week, I'm gonna jump at the chance to go elsewhere this week. Predicted return - 1 goal, 1 bp.

Aguero - I don't personally have him. Again involved in a very big game - I find it very hard to say how these games are gonna go, and likewise with the players involved. Predicted return - 1 goal, 2bps.

Sessegnon - One of my most likely. Sunderland scoring for fun at the moment and he seems to the main benificiary. Not much more to say.....Predicted return - 1 goal, 1 assist, 2bps.

Dempsey - Tough one to call. I have him and would love to have the guts to give him the armband. Some good returns recently, but Fulham seem to have a lot of people who can score a goal, so they could very easily win 2/3 -0 and him not be involved in any of their goals. Great fantasy-wise tho over the course of a season - some word on here saying that he's overpriced, which i dont agree with at all. Newcastle plucky but relatively toothless without Ba/Tiote I'd say, against a decent Fulham back line. Predicted return - 1 assist, clean sheet.

Sturridge - Playing well this season, plus spurred on by the aggravation of his current position out wide. Norwich not kept a clean sheet so far this season. Again though, with him not being central Chelsea could score well without him being the main protagonist. Predicted return - 1 assist, 1 bp.

Gerrard - Hard to know where he's gonna play. On penalties and free-kicks, plus he is central to Liverpool's attacking play when on form. Bolton are hopeless so can see him being involved in a goal or two. Predicted return - 2 assists, 2 bps.

Walters - OOP and at home to West Brom, you would expect big things. Throw in the penalties and you'd say he's a sure bet to come away with something? But I cant see it being a big score, and personally I like to throw the armband on someone who could potentially explode. Still, a decent prospect. - Predicted return - 1 goal, clean sheet.

Huth - Let me justify this....Part of a strong back-line at home to West Brom. So 4 points for a clean sheet firstly, is as much as a goal for a striker. Then throw-in (no pun intended) his aerial/goalscoring ability - he scored 6 goals last season, more than Jermain Defoe! Including, if I remember rightly, 1 game where he scored twice....add to that the fact that Stoke, unlike any other team, are reliant on aerial threat, and you have good potential. I would love to have the guts to cap him....but perhaps a snag is that Shotton & Delap are apparently doubts, meaning that his aerial opportunities will be reduced to corners/free kicks etc. - Predicted return - 1 clean sheet.

Fletcher - Just bought him last week, cant say I've ever been interested in a Wolves player at any point in the past, but I see the logic and have high hopes that he'll turn in a few good performances over the next week or two. Really hard to say how he'll do at home to Villa, local derby and all that. But he could very well pinch a goal, and I think he will. Predicted return - 1 goal, 2bps.

So there we have it. What's your thoughts lads?

People's thoughts on Bendtner and/or Crouch....looking at short term striking options until Aguero and Ba become affordable and available respectively.

Little embarrassed to admit that I'm considering either, but Bendtner's next 2 fixtures are attractive (then Aguero from GW24) and Crouch has 4 home games from next 6 (Ba to fit back in when time is right).

    Sound thought process?

    or

Lost the plot and trying to convince myself?

    Thoughts appreciated...

      I've captained Walters myself.

      Quite worried about it.

    Good Morning!

Just putting finishing touches to my WC and it's looking something like this:-

    Lind / Krul
Richards / Enrique (-> Kompany next week) / Evans / Santon / Naylor
    Silva / Bale / Dempsey / Walters / Sess
    RVP / Studge / Fletch

This leaves me with 3.4M in the bank to upgrade wherever needs doing.

As you can see i'm doubling up all over the GK/DF with 2 MU, 2 MC (when Bad K comes in), and 2 NEW; i've thought about this alot, and like it.

My main concern is the genericism of the MF; considering changing Sess to McLean for a slight bit of differential....anyone any other suggestions?

    Cheers and TFIS 😀
