[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The race to be the first player to climb onto the second suspension tightrope of the season is slowly starting to near conclusion, with the traditional bad boys queuing up to make the transition into balancing mode.

Readers of these pages will have seen regular mention of Blackburn’s Jason Lowe and the Chelsea captain John Terry as the recent front runners, both with eight yellow cards to their names from previous indiscretions. Last week they were joined by perennial offender and Sunderland leader Lee Cattermole and, not to be outdone – Joey Barton celebrated his return to the QPR side after suspension with his eighth yellow card in the win over bottom of the table Wigan. All four of those familiar names therefore now sit two yellow cards away from a two-match ban.

Hot on their heels with seven yellow cards though (and perhaps feeling the pressure) are Wigan’s Gary Caldwell, who despite conceding the second QPR penalty today for a foul on Heidar Helguson escaped further sanction, and Wolves’ enforcer Karl Henry, who certainly didn’t escape punishment for the back-heel he aimed at the prone Marc Albrighton’s midriff. Henry’s straight red card will see him miss the next 3 games for Wolves (LIV, qpr, WBA), and coupled with the injury to his midfield colleague Emmanuel Frimpong (on loan from Arsenal), could leave the black country club short of both of their first choice pair – the imminent return of Jamie O’Hara can’t come soon enough for Wolves. Everton’s robust Belgian, Marouane Fellaini is the final player with seven bookings, while a host of players complete the Tightrope widget with 6 yellow cards.

GAMEWEEK 23 BANS

  • Yakubu(BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)
  • Luis Suàrez (LIV) – FA charge (last of 8 matches)
  • Karl Henry (WOL) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)

What a stat this is.. crazy good..

Thats why im keeping the faith with vorm..

"Swansea had 5 midfielders with more touches than any Sunderland mid on their way to 64% possession."

I don't believe in this 'rest of the season' malarkz. I've kept Bale, VDV and BAE for the Wigan game and I'm not looking further than that.

with zamora and johnson on dempsey's avg position maps show him in his own half most of the game as opposed to him normally bein one of the most forward in other games.. lol.. i'm givin up on stats and heat maps etc.. in the end it's all up to the player on his day

think it bodes badly in the long term though.. he'll play way too deep with those two on.. and most teams wont defend with a line so high up.. so he'll be a winger who cant cross, not on penalties for 8.5.. just sayin.. that OOP value disappears

You are of course relying on the fact that Bobby will stay fit, something which I think is unlikely. If you look back at previous seasons he was still prolific with both strikers fit.

been planning sess->walters for gw24 for a week now, going to be a little more ballsy to do, given todays results and next gws fixtures, but i guess im a slave for fixtures, probably wouldnt have brought dempsey in if it weren't fixture-based, though I do rate him highly.

Hey guys, any thoughts on my WC team for this GW?

    Vorm/Krul

    Konpany/Enrique/Shotton/Kelly/Santon

    Dempsey/Bale/Valencia/Moses/McClean

    Rooney/RVP/Aguero

Will play 3-4-3 and rotate Moses/McClean and 1 of the 3 cheap def's every week.

Will also have enough to go Bale -> Silva for GW 24.

    How's it look?

No Silva could be disastrous with his form/fixtures.

Yea well that's what's stopping me too from selling Enrique but at the moment they can't seem to defend AND attack at the same time.

Bale has been a game changer. I can't see how you its going to profit you! I'd downgrade your defence/fwd to find funds for Silva.

Yeh I would be a little reluctant to get rid of Bale, but he has the least favourable fixtures of all the top mids/forwards for the next few weeks (after wigan), so he might have to be the one sacrificed. At the moment I am keen on the 3 big guns, however the other WC team I had planned was:

            Vorm/Krul
            Enrique/Kompany/Santon/Shotton/Kelly
            Bale/Silva/Dempsey/Valencia/Moses
            Aguero/RVP/Sturridge (Ba when he returns)

This way I can get Bale and Silva in, possibly change Sess to Valencia

            You like this better?

I'll come out and say it: I'm not a Valencia man. He offers up a fair amount of potential assists, but lacks goal threat. He doesn't take hardly any shots on target. He's a top winger in real footy, but I'm not sold on his FPL value. I think you would be better served by the likes of Walters, Sess, or hell, even Sinclair. Two of those three have penalty duties as well. You've already got the united cover too.

Thanks, I am definitely thinking about Sess instead of Valencia now, would spread the risk out a bit more and free up a bit of cash too.

Not a big fan of sinclair or walters, and most of my mini league rivals have either one or both of them so trying to stay clear.

Raylor owners. I'm going to hold on and see what happens next game. To me it is clear that we shouldn't play ameobi and best together, as neither can last the full 90 mins. It would make sense to move Barfa up front, and bring raylor back in on the right.

Williamson was dire yesterday. Santon could have been sent off twice. The midfield offered the defence no protection second half. I wouldn't advise getting too many toon defenders before tiote comes back.

Surely Pardew MUST find a place for barfa in the team now. Two wonder goals and an assist in 3 games. And he's putting more work in. I reckon he will play up front until the demba's come home. I will be looking to get him back in. Got rid on the WC this week. My captain barfa last week was a week ahead of its time!!

You just said about the midfielders offering no protection for the defense, and then you go praise HBA.
The games not all about flashy goals or dribbles, he isn't a hard enough worker and that's why Pardew is hesitant playing him.

True. But I think he will be played up front until the dembas come home. With raylor on the right. Then when tiote is back, I think that he and cabeye will form a strong enough base to allow us to play barfa on the wing. Him and jonas can switch wings so that jonas can offer protection against any good wingers. What do you reckon?

Doubt it. He's been great. He could have got a red card yesterday, but it would have been taking one for the team because it was a blatant last ditch attempt to stop the guy at all costs as there was no cover. He's a million times better than raylor at left back

Okay I need very important advice. Looks like my best mate Rukawa has cheated on me, by breaking the bro code. What should I do at this point?

    A. Ditch his valuable friendship & switch alliances to the LadyGuys
    B. Stick with him & give him one more chance. My selfish motivation is that I can gain his wisdom.
    C. WC in gw23
    D. Start a petition about why Rooney should have 0 assists and Captain America should be eliminated from FPL after being responsible for WWI and WWII.

        Not really Alex Song.

I might a triple rise on Sess but I'm going to skip that wagon till I see him for a few games. I'm confident his motivation levels will decrease.

I actually like my defence this week : Evans Walker Enrique (won't be having all 3 come gw24)
My midfield isn't decent but has Bale, Dempsey and a Sun MID - covered. I might not have Nani from gw24 but could explode in gw23.
My frontline is prolly going to be the same in a WC.
Given (QPR) isn't a bad fixture as well. He's on form too!

        Thoughts?

I was thinking pretty similar to you.. had a squad all set for GW23.. with tripling up on spurs.. BAE Bale and Ade.. plus was going to double on Arsenal with Walcott and RVp just before the squads were announced on deadline. Also had a defense Richards Enrique BAE.

But Dempsey and sess ruined it for me.. Firstly my team value is low comapred to yours So i cannot afford to cover these rises even with a hit.

Mata,Nani and Drenthe are on their way to a drop.. already lost 0.1 on drenthe and nani..

Also never intented to have Sess in my team.. It was Always Mcclean for sunderland cover and my 5th sub mid.

It was always going to be Dempsey + Walters at wildcard for me.. 3/4 home games in the next 4 for both..

I missed out on mcclean+aguero by 0.1 last week other wise i would have been easy for me.. Just like you i would have done Mata>Dempsey and 1 hit to get a set squad for GW23.

Your team is set up much better than i thought for GW23 after checking it again now.. 😀

You can easily skip on the WC this week.. Max you might suffer is a 0.1 loss.

          What do you think ??

Aaah too late.. WC was the only thing that would have kept me interested in this game and it did..

I had covered a 120 point gap from GW10-19 after a miserable start..

GWs 20,21 and 22 have restored that lead for my rival(s).. :/

Understand what you are saying and guess it would make it easier to just 1FT back to that. Not worth crossing that bridge when it comes to it? Chelsea not looking good attacking wise and think we may see a fall in price for Sturridge. The most it would probably cost you to bring Ba back would be prob be 2FT. Could probably even reverse Sess and McClean back to do it.

No news of a long-term injury. To me, that calf tear looked exterior in which case 10 days is more than enough time for him to recover.

Okay, I need Van Persie to score less than 5 to win my cup game. Possible?

    Morning all,

Never thought I'd be saying this about my goalkeeper selection. But hoping Lindy gets rotated today as have Ruddy sitting on the bench with 8+bps. I don't think it will happen though. Funny how this game pans out sometimes!

Not funny when i trade Dempsey,Ben Arfa and Valencia out for Gerrard, Barton and Walters 🙁
      Epic fail!

Oh dear, agree that's just not funny! I was also thinking to get Zamora in for Sturridge this week but didn't go with my gut!

B'Arfa i can understand after last weeks poor performance but Dempsey is pretty key to all Fulhams returns and Valencia looked mightily dangerous last week, albeit with few returns.

Thankfully i have dempsey and sessegnon to make up for captain fail torres! And nobody in my mini leagues have dempsey! BOOM! Finally get to take a bite out of the deficit.

Are any torres owners keeping? I wanted to keep until Man Utd, but he was so bad yesterday I might just cut my losses. Aguero in against an injury hit everton defence. Are everton still in the FA cup? If so, City will be rested and they won't be. Even more reason to bring him in.

I've posted this link before, probably when he destroyed me in that DGW last year (I had Bobby Z), but I think it's worth posting this article on Dempsey again:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007/nov/24/newsstory.fulham?INTCMP=SRCH

Never hurts me quite as much when it's Dempsey, compared to say, Rooney, doing my FF team damage.
