Spurs miss the influence of Gareth Bale but drag themselves into the fifth round courtesy of a Rafael Van der Vaart strike. Everton also progress, as Landon Donovan inspires a comeback following another Danny Murphy spot-kick.

Landon Donovan
The on-loan American provide the quality that unlocked the Fulham defence, supplying two quality crosses which were converted by the heads of Denis Stracqualursi and Marouane Fellaini to give the Toffees the victory. Donaovan was a constant menace to the visitors down the right-flank and, in addition to his supply of key passes, also clocked up a number of goal attempts to emphasise his growing confidence and importance to the Everton cause. Sadly, his loan spell sees him depart Merseyside at the end of February and Everton’s fixtures in this remaining spell are not favourable, with City and Chelsea the visitors to Goodison. Even at just 7.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Donovan is a gamble, although that also makes him a ready-made differential.

Marouanne Fellaini
David Moyes is looking to maximise the goal threat from the Belgian, with talk of pushing his height and power into the impotent Everton attack before last night’s cup tie. While Moyes elected to start with Stracqualursi, supported by Tim Cahill, it was Fellaini who motored forward to provide the finish to Donovan’s delivery. Available for 6.1 in the FPL, we should monitor his progress as a goal threat in the coming weeks – having scored eight strikes in his first Premier League season, Fellaini could yet provide some value should Moyes unlock his ability to get into goalscoring situations and feed on the supply from Donovan and Leighton Baines.

Philippe Senderos
Martin Jol elected to bring Aaron Hughes into his starting lineup, dropping Senderos to the bench. Fantasy managers have been turning their attention to Senderos in recent weeks, having seen the Swiss defender establish himself alongside Brede Hangeland. At 4.3 in the FPL, he remains a worthy target, although last night’s team selection will cause concern. The fact that Fulham conceded two headers from crosses won’t bode well for Hughes’ chances of retaining his start, however. The general consensus appears to be that Senderos was rested, along with Bobby Zamora, and we should expect both to be on the teamsheet for the home clash with West Brom on Wednesday.

Rafael Van der Vaart
His 25-yard effort provided the one slither of quality from a drab Spurs performance at Vicarage Road, as Harry Redknapp’s side stumbled into the fourth round. Van der Vaart, playing behind a failing attack of Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor, struck before half-time, his second goal in his last 14 appearances in all competitions. That spell has seen the Dutchman notch just once in 12 league showings, a return that has seen his Fantasy ownership dwindle as Gareth Bale’s continued to deliver as a cheaper alternative.

Gareth Bale
Bale was kept out of the action last night, with Redknapp stating he was carrying a slight thigh strain sustained in training. Fantasy managers will be uneasy about the prospect of Bale missing Tuesday’s potentially profitable clash with Wigan on Tuesday but, in all likelihood, Bale’s absence was a precaution, with Redknapp sounding optimistic on the injury…

He picked it up in training two days before the match. He felt it a bit but it’s not too bad.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Klanfield strikes again. If they want to defend their player that's one thing, but that is disgraceful.

Despite being a great manager, does anyone think Ferguson is up threre with the worst of them in terms of transfers recently.

Obviously Liverpool have issues with Carroll and Chelsea with Torres but having a £30M Bebatov on the bench and a £20M keeper who may not cut in in the PL is nearly as bad.

Which signings of late have been a success or look good for the future? Vidic, Smalling, Valencia? Even Jones is questionable at that price.

Its hard for Utd to find bargains as any player their interested in shoots up in true value price. But thats the same with most top clubs. In terms of players he is not in the top three worst. He has made more good signings than bad.

He has been relectant to buy ready made replacements. So investments in young has been made. Of course Jones is not worth the value they paid, buts its potential value which you would only deem successful in the next 4-5 years.

In terms of the young players, you cant be sure until you wait 3-5 years. In terms of ashley young then yes that was a sh*t signing.

          Your arguement refutes itself

Berbatov is not playing cos he cant get in the team and this is indicative of bad transfer by Ferguson...

          You forget this:

Why Is Berbatov not in the starting line up?

Because Ferguson bought the likes of Rooney and Hernandez at decent market prices who refute your arguement.

Your merely picking a specific time to support your argument.

Nonsense. I can easily do the same.

The signings Ferguson made in the Early 90s Giggs Keane Irwin Cantona show how great a transfer market dealer he is

Even though i take the same method as you mine is more credible as i allow a greater time period and sampel of players to gain a view point.

Yours is as silly as saying : Man United lost today shows Ferguson is a bad manager

When people rightly correct you above : You say oh i meant recently.

I know it was nothing to do with today. I was merely using your way of thinking in another way to show you how out of kilt it is.

In choosing a specific time you did choose it support a specific arguement.

The very fact of choosing in the first place was biased as you knew his record then.

Besides Attila being into the long peroids of time in his work could equally argue recently is far more than since 2005.

              Your arguement is this

Im choosing this time and thess conditions to prove objectively this is the case.

Most overrated manager of all time, people only think he's intelligent because he's barely coherent (rather like Dalglish). All his best players have come through the youth system Scholes/Giggs/Neville etc and then he got lucky with the rest.
Bebe, Djemba Djemba etc are his usual dross.

It's when you write something you don't really mean to get lots of annoyed responses. The fishing rod is a / or | hidden somewhere in the post to show you're on a fishing trip 😉

Basically if you see something a bit outrageous then just have a look for one of the fishing rods. It reached its absolute zenith when Goose caught dozens (including Jamsiep) when slagging off A\/B.

A lot of people have raved about Krul/Hennessey. Wayne won't keep many CS but he has more saves than anyone in the league and has a couple of penalty saves as well I think, that should offer some compensation.

No colo for us today. Perch alongside williamson. If he is injured for any period of time , stay clear of the toon defence!

Barfa keeps his place ahead of raylor. Here's hoping he puts in a shift!

Got a dodgy feeling about today. Its the kind of game that we would lose in previous seasons. We do seem to be stronger mentally this year though.

You never know, with both City and Man Utd out, the cup is wide open. If we survive today, this could finally be our year to win something. Something we haven''t done since 1969!!

I am a big fan of the special one but Fergie is the greatest manager in my lifetime. That's coming from a Chelsea supporter

Those of us who remember how bad Utd were before Ferguson can see what he's achieved. Even look at what he's done last year and this year with really pretty poor teams.

Too obvious. Its at its most effective when there's already a raging argument going on. People get so cross and respond without reading properly.

Does anybody know if Rooney is injured. Had Fergies pre match interview on but only caught a tiny bit and i thought he said Wayne might be ok for next weekends game. Working midweek too so won't get the team news. Hate midweek games

Great the player I hate most joining one of the clubs I hate most. Like to have them all packaged together, more efficient scorn.

The ITV commentator talked earlier about Man Utd injuries - said Ferdinand should be back for Stoke, with Rooney back for the weekend. So I'm guessing he;'s very doubtful for Stoke.

Liverpool beat Man United fair and square. Suarez had nothing to do with the game so why are Man United fans using it as an excuse then just calling Liverpool a racist club? Grow some balls and accept defeat. Pathetic fans.

In all honesty each club has a bunch of racist fans but that does not mean the whole club is racist. We deserved the win today but racism makes the headlines.

Boo to sodding Crawley and their nasty manager. Fans of most division four (or "League Two" or whatever) clubs would agree.
