As entry opens for the Members-only Paddy Power Cup VI, we’ve almost reached the final stage of it’s predecessor. Gameweek 22 saw four fantasy managers face off in the Semi-Finals of the Paddy Power Cup V. In case you missed the summary in this week’s ScoutCast, here is how the two ties panned out…

sleepingmaster 48 – 41 ChickenDevil

sleepingmaster advances to the Grand Final after a seven-point win over ChickenDevil. A late fight-back courtesy of Antonio Valencia’s 13-point haul wasn’t enough to close the gap after Stephane Sessegnon and, to a lesser degree, Ciaran Clark’s performances the day before.

Sitting 59,659th in the world, sleepingmaster advances as the underdog, but is safe in the knowledge that he’s already pocketed prizes worth over £100. ChickenDevil will have to settle for a Gameweek 23 3rd-place play-off to bag a prize.

Raasclart 26 – 37 Funkyav

Eleven points was the margin of victory for Funkyav over Raasclart, who has John Ruddy’s unlikely clean sheet against Chelsea to thank. With Funkyav backing a heavy Chelsea win, seeing as his team boasted the likes of Juan Mata and captain Daniel Sturridge, fortune was certainly on his side.

Congratulations to sleepingmaster and Funkyav for reaching the Grand Final! A preview article will follow…

On WC....need to leave one out of team so I can have a cheap mid on bench most weeks. Which one would you leave out?

    Bale/Valencia/Sessengon/Dempsey/Silva

    Cheers

help please i am on wildcard need the blanks filled in and some further advice- btw I have my other wildcard spare and was planning to use that sometime between 28 and 30 any ideas exactly on when i should plan to do it. anyway here is my current state of affairs

gk vorm at 4.8 and lingaard 4.4- is this the best combo

def- kompany at 6.2 shud i stick with him over richards as making the switch would set me back 0.3
def- simpson at 4.2 shud i go santon?
def- bae at 5.5- shud i keep in the hope he has a good game vs wigan rises to make me another 0.1 before getting rid
def- had enrique not sure who to get help please?
def- same- was thinking 3 off shotton, evans, clark, senderos, caulker or taiwo for those last 3 slots who shud i get?

    mid-silva 10.3 done
    mid- dempsey 8.6 done
mid- bale 9.1 done providing he is fit
mid- sessegnon at 6.7 shud i just get maclean instead to save me money for forwards
mid- valencia 8 again not totally sure as united have bad fixtures- also fearing hard decisions over who to bench if i get the big 5 hence considering maclean or maybe moses?

    forward- rvp done
    forward- augero or dzeko
    forward- ba maybe?

ok just a quick question. People are saying wait until the lineups are released on Tuesday before making any transfers. This is all well and good, but what if you fancied a punt on someone who's playing Weds, you don't have those lineups, and you can't wait for them.

you have to worry more, as you have no idea if they'll play, but only picking Tuesday players seems silly. I'm just saying is all, it's useful if you're punting on someone playing Tuesday, but I have 2 FTs and and maybe punting on someone playing Weds as well.

This is true - but the Tuesday line-ups may help you to decide who you take out in order to bring the Wednesday player in. Either way a late transfer is best.

well I need to take out Nani and Jones so I don't think it's an issue for me as neither of them will make it.

I am looking at Jones ➡ Evra and

also wc him in. I don't know why I just fancy the Arsenal mid, I think Bolton will score, I'm not sure Stoke will. I just don't know anymore. It's the Nani switch that's the tricky one as I don't think Captain America will repeat last week's haul.

hence why Evra looks a good bet, likely to get a CS also gets forward a lot and, as skipper, is nailed on to start.

Agreed. However Vermaelen could score - especially if he is CB position again provided Sagna will play;)

Sagna is rb, Verm has been playing on the other side, it needs Santos or Gibbs to come back I feel.

Have Friedel, BAE and Bale. I haven't ruled Verm out, I just want to punt and enjoy it rather than bring in a player who I'm getting in on wc anyway.

I thought you were wildcarding? I've looked at your team and I think you should do it now, you have Jones, Nani, Brown, Tiote, Bale, Raylor all doubtful to start.

The transfers are good but I think you won't be able to field 11 this week.

last time did an accidentally overly long post so instead will post some shorter questions. ps im on wildcard

is vorm 4.8 and lingaard 4.4 best keeper combo?

pick 4 defenders from the following to accompany kompany?
simpson, santon, senderos, shotton, clark, caulker, kelly, taiwo, bae , enrique

midfield- which of silva dempsey bale sess and valencia should i drop for a cheap mid to give me less selection dilemmas- possibly get moses or maclean in for who?

forwards- pick 2 to accompany rvp- aguero or dzeko, ba?

Krul and Lind, costs 0.2 more but worth it

(accompany Kompany, nice alliteration there :D)

Santon, Taiwo, Senderos and C;ark for me

If you're gonna get McLean drop Sess, you don't need both

RvP, Aguero and Welbeck, give Ba a couple of week to going.

    Cheap Defensive Options Overview (Updated)
Senderos- Priced at £4.3m the Swiss looks like a bargain given Fulham’s kind run of fixtures. He seems to be more nailed on than his Fulham companion Stephen Kelly(£3.9m) and shows attacking potential from set-pieces.
    Next 6- WBA(H),MC(A),STO(H),QPR(A),WOL(H),AV(A).
Taiwo- The Nigerian defender on loan for the rest of the season has arrived at a price of £4.5m and shows more attacking potential that most full-backs. But he faces competition from A.Traore(£5.5m) for the Left-Back spot. With QPR also recruiting Onuoha(£4.6m) and possibly Blackburn rebel Samba(£5.4m) the QPR defence is uncertain.
    Next 6- AV(A),WOL(H),BLA(A),FUL(H),EVE(H),BOL(A).
Caulker- Swansea man Steven Caulker has caught the eye after returing from injury at only £3.9m,later rising to £4.0m. Caulker has played all 90 minutes in the Swans last 8 games except from the Spurs game in which he was Ineligible. The only risk is that many Fantasy Managers won’t want to double up on Swansea defence with both Caulker and Vorm(£5.2) during a difficult time fixture wise for the Swans.
    Next 6- CHE(H),WBA(A),NOR(H),STO(A),WIG(A),MC(H).
Santon- The Italian has managed to do the unthinkable and keep set-piece dangerman Ryan Taylor(£5.4m) out of the side. Santon has also look dangerous with his overlapping runs from the left and has assist potential and with Simpson now at £4.4m many have swiched to the Italian to save that £0.2m.
    Next 6- BLA(A),AV(H),TOT(A),WOL(H),SUN(H),ARS(A).
McAuley- Showing some decent performances during the winter period, including the Clean Sheet at home to Man City McAuley has shown his true potential. Priced at £4.1m and somedecent fixtures coming up he’s certainly one to consider.
    Next 6- FUL(A),SWA(H),WOL(A),SUN(H),CHE(H),MU(A).
Shotton- After Jermain Pennant falling out with Tony Pulis the Defender has played on the Wing for a few games and also played at Right-Back. With the defender having good home fixtures coming up and being able to play in many different positions he provides a cheap way into the Stoke defence.
    Next 6- MU(A),SUN(H),FUL(A),SWA(H),NOR(H),CHE(A).
J.Evans- After the recent injury crisis the United man has become a key figure in the United backline. The Northern-Irishman is set to keep his place in the long term with Vidic out for the rest of he season and Ferdinand(£6.4m) and Jones(£6.5m) both doubtful. Priced at £4.5m you can't go wrong with United coverage for that small price.
    Next 6-STO(H),CHE(A),LIV(H),NOR(A),TOT(A),WBA(H).
Clark- Clark has come into the spotlight after playing the last few games. He has become more involved in play and picked up an Assist and Bonus Point in the Villa vs Wolves game. He's set to keep his place in midfield after injuries to Delph,Jenas and Herd and keeping Bannan(£4.5) out of the side.
    Next 6- QPR(H),NEW(A),MC(H),WIG(A),BLA(A),FUL(H).
Brown- One of the many former United players at Sunderland, Brown has been a reliable source at the back for O'Niell's side. Picking up a suprising goal at Loftus Road when many had benched him was fustrating for Fantasy Managers but with O'Niell taking over from Bruce Brown is certain to keep his place.
    Next 6- NOR(H),STO(A),ARS(H),WBA(A),NEW(A),LIV(A).
Ward- The Irishman, playing more of a Winger than a defender has given out two hauls of 10 this season, against Blackburn and Wigan respectively. Wolves have leaked in 40 goals so far this season, despite the arrival of Roger Johnson. He has also featured in EVERY MINUTE of Wolves games this season.
    Next 6- LIV(H),QPR(A),WBA(H),NEW(A),FUL(A),BLA(H).

Doing some of the hard work for you Wildcarders.

Bit dull but I feel compelled to say I've just switched to using Chrome from Firefox on my ageing laptop and it's noticeably and impressively snappier. Woot 🙂

Few questions and analysis from the weekend.

    - Looks like both Rooney and Nani will miss the Stoke game so if on a WC, is Valencia really worth bringing in? I think it will be a tight game and then they play Chelsea away.

    - Mata has looked a real threat the last few weeks, had a few good efforts on goal yesterday, looks like the most likely Chelsea player to score and converted a penalty. I think he could get some big hauls very soon, tempted to bring him in this week.

    - Senderos just being rested? Was set on him over Kelly.

    - Just when i thought i couldn't despise Dalglish more he goes and says "you are kidding aren't you, why should i feel sorry for Patrice Evra, the fans have every right to stick up for their player" Absolute scumbag.

    - RVP is god.

will KKK defend the fan who made a monkey gesture at Evra?? What will he use as an excuse? In Liverpool making monkey gestures at black men is a sign of love and admiration?

Yes I think he will do well vs Stoke but I think he will struggle against A.Cole.

Wait until the deadline and see if Lampard is back.

I have both but I'd choose Kelly

      Agreed.

I didn't suggest getting him, I meant that he should wait as Lampard could steal Mata's set pieces.

Valencia struggle against Cole....hmmmm. Posts on here saying he would struggle against Enrique and I reckon he came out top of that particular battle. When a player's on form pick him I reckon.....

PS I don't have him - hope he does'nt rise by Wednesday.

      No, Just play:

      Mignolet
      Enrique Evans Kelly
      Dempsey Sess HBA Bale
      RVP Aguero

Final spot is a toss up between Moses and Santon, i'd go with Santon.

Not an 8 pointer as I reckon you'll still be able to field a full side. You have 'maybes' in Shotton, Bale and Rooney but you should know about these before deadline. If I were you I'd plan for what you'd do if all 3 of these are ruled out and leave it until just before deadline to make the changes.

Not nailed on - too many Stoke defenders for him to be rotation-proof - and talk of Walters moving back to midfield (like he was yesterday - see also today's Scout Notes) casts doubt on Shotton playing there either.
