We started with 2,216 fantasy managers all hoping to qualify for the first round of the Paddy Power Cup V, and now we are down to the final two. It’s Funkyav versus sleepingmaster battling it out in Gameweek 23 for the coveted prize. Here’s how they reached the Grand Final…

Finalist No.1 – Funkyav (1,754th in the world)

Funkyav breezed into the first round after qualifying in 290th place with a score of 71. That set-up a tie against Fartak Moscow, where he edged to a three-point victory (59 – 56). He close to elimination in round three, beating jonnygs11 by just a single-point (89 – 88). There was breathing space in the third and fourth rounds however, with wins against Bruceters Millions (60 – 53) and Flussig (63 – 53) respectively. Funkyav’s second scare came in the fifth round, after another single-point victory, this time against Parks (71 – 70). cobbler68 was his sixth round opponent, and 54 – 46 was the result.

In his Last 16 tie, Funkyav notched an emphatic 14-point battering of Bruce Baer (45 – 31), and followed that up with his third flirt with defeat in a nail-biting 54 – 53 match with Sc8tt26. His final act of incredible form was seeing off Raasclart 37 – 26 in the final four.

Finalist No.2 – sleepingmaster (59,659th in the world)

A strong start saw sleepingmaster score 74 in the qualifying round, placing him in the top 10% and in 199th place. He made tough work in the first round, squeezing past hodgson87 36 – 32. Next up were hilary_briss, who succumbed 74 – 66 in the second and Dino, who was dispatched 63 – 52 in the third. His second eleven-point win came in the very next round, beating PM XI 63 – 52. Two five-point wins followed, first against stefoaks (57 – 52) in the fifth, and then agaisnt Dyslexia United (46 – 41) in the sixth.

VereWinner was sleepingmaster’s Last 16 foe, with the finalist prevailing 41 – 34. He then sailed into the Semi-Finals with a 17-point thumping of CSKA Awful (54 – 37), before sealing his spot in the Grand Final with a 48 – 41 disposal of ChickenDevil.

If you pit Funkyav and sleepingmaster‘s weekly scores together, it’s 7 – 2 to the higher-ranked Funkyav (with two of those ‘wins’ coming by way of overall rank).

Also going head-to-head this week are those Semi-Final left-overs, ChickenDevil and Raasclart, fighting it out for 3rd place.

Here’s a reminder of what they are competing for…

  • Winner – £150 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 worth of free bets. £30 Amazon Voucher
  • 3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £20 Amazon Voucher

So, good luck to all four fantasy managers participating in the final stage of the Paddy Power Cup V!

How does this team look for this gameweek:

    Lindegaard
    Kompany Kelly Santon
    Bale McLean Valencia Sessegnon Dempsey
    Van Persie Aguero

    Bench: Mignolet, Ba, Richards, Taiwo

It looks like a WC team to me.

Great team though. Like the fact that you have planned for next week with Ba and Taiwo on the bench.

      Not tempted by Silva?

I have considered this move myself. Shipping one next week with an FT. People shouldn't discount the idea just because it was criticised on the scoutcast.

Cheers, ya its my wildcard. Silva would be nice to have but I stupidly sold him instead of Nani few weeks ago to get Bale, had him since the start at 9.5 so it was a really bad move in hindsight.

Doubling up on City at the back is a viable strategy anyway. Good luck.

silva is a funny one, for example you'd never guess nani has outscored him over the past 10 gameweeks based on views on the pair. and you'd probably make some people scratch their heads if you said "i don't need silva, i've got sessegnon." sessegnon however has also outscored silva in the last 10. so based on that he's certainly not RVP level quite yet.
given upcoming fixtures however and a mancini press-conference about 3 weeks ago where he essentially said he doesn't think they need to rotate in the new year then i'd personally get, or keep silva.

    rmwct

lignard 4.4 krul 5- would be getting rid of vorm at 4.8 is this right?

fulham and swansea rotate well with qpr and newcastle up until 27 so
    komapny 6.2
    senderos 4.3
    caulker 4
    taiwo 4.5
    simpson 4.2
in gw 27 could then get evans in for whichever of senderos, taiwo and simpson isn't performing to keep the rotation going nicely.

this line up would remove enrique at 5.5 and bae at 5.5 for me worth getting rid having made money on them, good call as fosters would say?

dempsey 8.6, silva 10.3, maclean 4.5, valencia 8, bale 9.1- shud i go moses and sess instead of tony v and maclean for easier rotation?
    rvp 12.5 aguero 11.1 ba 7.3

s******** I spent an hour trying to make sure this was laid out clearly and it looked fine in the comment box

Generally speaking the points are the last figures on the second line for each player

I've noticed that complicated posts like this one get fewer responses. If you break it down into 2 or 3 posts you may get more response.

For one I cannot see exactly what you are asking. Is it to approve your team or tosuggest better moves

A frequent response to this sort of post starts "can't really help without knowing the rest of your team"

            Hope this helps

and then week 27 take someone out for jevans to get good rotaion any better ideas

Taiwo has a much larger goal threat and also will take long range frees and shots.

valencia+mcclean imo. Valencia's form is unbelievable right now. Plus sess fixtures toughen up after this gw.

Tough man go with your gut feeling.
I really like McClean keeps getting better every game.
MON tactics really suit Sess though:L
Valencia is a beast and moses is just a gamble could go either way.

leaning towards valencia and maclean. just. have seen sunderlands fixtures and not as good as i had thought, though they've got my canaries on wendnesday so will probably score! sods law it will be sess, wiered because he was awful at carrow road earlier this year

Looking for a one week only striker punt.

    Keane?
    Zamora?
    Someone else?

(7.3 maximum, and can't have Welbeck because I've got 3 United already)

i am on wildcard sorting goalkeepers and defence

goalkeepers; lingaard 4.4 and vorm at 4.8 or krul at 5

defence: komps, simpson and taiwo rotating with caulker and senderos

right to remove bae at 5.5 not totally certain need help?

      Lidy and Vorm rotate well.
Defence should be komps, williamson, senderos, caulker and taiwo.

Yes, remove bae as spurs have tough fixtures.

Id go williamson over simpson though as he is more of a goal threat off set pieces.

Id also take a look at huth, gets a lot of opportunities on net, and finally scored twice yesterday in stoke's 2-0 win in the cup. He looks a good shout from gw24-28. Im looking at getting him in.

        lindy and vorm fixtures combined
STO wba NOR nor wig WBA ful FUL bla

        krul and lindy fixtures
STO AVIL LIV WOL SUN WBA NOR FUL

so is krul worth that extra 0.2 or not?

regarding simpson i have had him from the start so at 4.2 same price as santon or williamson would you still make the switch?

regarding huth how would he fit into my nicely rotating defence of kompany then senderos and caulker rotating with simpson/ williamson and taiwo?
