Wayne Rooney and Nani are back in the United squad ahead of the trip to Chelsea. Anders Lindegaard is out for over a month with an ankle injury. Steven Gerrard returns for Liverpool, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a doubt for Arsenal, Chris Samba is out of the Blackburn squad, while Jamie O’Hara comes back into contention for Wolves.

Blackburn will travel to the Emirates tomorrow without the services of Chris Samba. The Rovers skipper is 100% fit for selection but, after failing to engineer a move away from Ewood Park during the January transfer window, he is not being considered for the first-team at present. While this hardly helps the club’s battle to stave off relegation, it’s great news for those of us who are intent on handing Robin Van Persie the armband this weekend. With the media pre-warned that questions on Samba were off-limits at his press conference, beleaguered boss Steve Kean would only confirm:

I’m prepared to say he’s fit and he’s available but he’s not in the squad for the Arsenal game. I’d rather speak about people who are available to play against Arsenal. Chris has trained well today but he’s not going to be in this squad.

Arsene Wenger revealed Alex Oxlade Chamberlain was his only injury concern ahead of the Rovers showdown. The youngster faces a fitness test today, with his manager describing the issue as “a little problemâ€. Wenger also admitted he was considering some changes to his side, after a disappointing draw at Bolton last time out extended Arsenal’s winless league run to four matches.

Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to have four players back for Man United’s trip to Chelsea. The United boss revealed Wayne Rooney, Nani, Ashley Young and Tom Cleverley will all be in the squad for Sunday’s showdown. While Cleverley is more likely to reserve action on Monday, both Rooney and Nani have trained for the last two days and stand a chance of first-team returns.

Ferguson also went on to reveal Anders Lindegaard will be out for four to six weeks with ankle ligament damage. It leaves the champions with something of a quandary in goal- David De Gea missed the Stoke game in midweek due to illness but he’s hardly been inspirational at the back and has been left on the bench for five of the last six matches. If De Gea is ruled out, Ben Amos is likely to continue in goal, with Ferguson admitting today that he was picked ahead of Tomasz Kuszczak on Tuesday as, with the Pole leaving in the summer, he decided to afford Amos some game time in the league.

Kenny Dalglish has confirmed Steven Gerrard will return to the Liverpool squad after being rested for the midweek win at Wolves. The midfielder has been eased back into action following groin and ankle problems but is set to feature against Spurs on Monday evening. With Luis Suarez also available after his eight-game suspension, Dalglish admitted he’s spoiled for choice right now, as the Reds look to continue their recent run of form that has knocked both Manchester clubs out of domestic cup competition.

Mohamed Diame will return for Wigan at home to Everton this weekend. The midfielder had been unavailable for the last few games due to African Cup of Nations duties but with Senegal knocked out at the group stages, he’s back for the Latics a little earlier than anticipated. Hugo Rodallega could also make a quick return, having missed the previous game due to soft tissue damage, while Franco Di Santo and Antolin Alcaraz could also be involved, after leg and groin problems respectively.

Jamie O’Hara has been included in the Wolves squad ahead of this weekend’s trip to QPR. The midfielder has failed to feature since gameweek 15 after a double hernia operation, but turned out for the reserves in midweek and is ready to step straight back into first-team action.

Steve Sidwell is set to be sidelined for up to six weeks. The Fulham midfielder is still suffering discomfort following his recent hernia operation and may require further surgery to alleviate the problem. Moussa Dembele returns to the squad and is likely to come back into central midfield, while both Andy Johnson and new signing Pavel Pogrebnyak are both unavailable, meaning Clint Dempsey is likely to play up front again for the trip to Man City. Reports also suggest Mark Schwarzer may be set to return for the Cottagers this weekend.

Which transfer is more pressing this week.

Cahill -> Taiwo (or similarly priced) Current backline would be: Santon, Riise, Kompany
    or
Mata -> Valencia (or similarly priced)

Would it also be worth bringing in Ba for Sturridge for a hit this week?

      I'd do Mata -> Valencia.

I'd get in Ba, but perhaps not for a hit - that transfer can probably wait a week, your team is solid.

Innocent to proven guilty.. Granted he is guilty of making racist remarks towards another player, but does that make him racist? Considering there was 3 or 4 black chelsea players around him when he said it. That's hardly racist intent.

Not sure how you can be delighted if you are English, as this will only add to our excuses for not being good enough for when the tournament comes around.

Terry was the best choice for England captain. Might be an idiot outside of football, but that could be said for many of the England team, only thing is we judge them on football so why should terry be any different.

Whether he is "a racist" or not isn't the key issue though. If you're capable of saying those things it doesn't matter. 'Racist' is just label, what matters is what people do.

How can you say it's not "racist intent" by the way? Surely not caring about his '3 or 4 black teammates' doesn't make it any better? They probably won't have liked it, as is pretty clear that Drogba and Essien did not a couple of years ago when he called Ledley King a lippy black monkey.

And several members of the England team hate him, that's why he shouldn't be captain.

    RVP(c)

After the disappointment of captaining him last week, accompanied by the huge likelihood that I will do the same this weekend, I thought I would have a look over the other timer times I “played it safe” and put the captaincy on the Dutch master.

Suprisingly I have captained him in 13 of the 23 gameweeks thus far, yes I’m that boring, so you may as well tattoo that yellow armband on him in my team:
    GW1 (new) – 2 GW14 (wig) – 15
    GW4 (SWA) – 2 GW15 (EVE) – 7
    GW5 (bla) – 5 GW17 (avl) – 11
    GW8 (SUN) – 12 GW18 (WOL) – 2
    GW11 (WBA) – 11 GW19 (QPR) – 9
    GW12 (nor) – 13 GW23 (bol) – 2
    GW13 (FUL) – 2

I assume a lot of other owners have a similar record, perhaps when he dies his gravestone should read “Here lies Robin Van Persie… (c)”. As you can see the results are a bit of a mixture… I have suffered 2 pointers at the hands of RVP© but I have also doubled 5 of his double figure hauls (DFHs). It’s notable I did not double his other 3 DFHs:
    GW6 (BOL) – 13
    GW9 (STO) – 11
    GW10 (che) – 19

So his total of 8 DFHs have therefore came in this run of games (BOL, SUN, STO, che, WBA, nor, wig, avl). So what can be gleaned from this?
    - Firstly one must admit there is no discernable pattern to when constitutes a good time to captain RVP.
    - He doesn’t get big points against the big sides (sorry Jamsiep, CFCtom etc 😈 )
    - He has an even set of DFHs in 4 home games and 4 away games. It seems he doesn’t enjoy playing at the Emirates anymore than playing away from home, which should come in handy when he gets a transfer this summer 😛
    - It’s interesting that he has not registered a DFH at the Emirates since way back in GW11 (5th November) when he grabbed a goal and an assist against West Brom. That means since then, he has missed out on double digits in this run of home games – FUL, EVE, WOL, QPR & MUN with notable 2 pointers in the FUL and WOL game.

Finally, I have heard some silly boys (Doosra, Fratboy etc) raise doubts over giving him the armband because he is in a lunchtime KO. Far from go into the details of my own dislike for this widely held myth, lets look at the KO times for when RVP got his DFHs. As you can see below, 4 of them came in lunchtime KOs if you count the Sunday games, and even if you don’t count those games one should not be so quick to forget his hattrick at Stamford Bridge or his brace at Carrow Road on those sleepy eyed Saturday lunchtimes:
    BOL – 3pm
    SUN – 1:30pm (Sun)
    STO – 1:30pm (Sun)
    che – 12:45pm
    WBA – 3pm
    nor – 12:45pm
    wig – 3pm
    avl – 7:45pm (Wed)

I’m not trying to talk people into or out of captaining RVP this weekend. Just highlighting that the idea of “predictability” is important when choosing your captain but predicting when RVP will strike it rich is more difficult than you might think. So you just have to take your 2 pointers on the chin until you catch him when he is hot.

Really don't understand the lunchtime kick-off myth. Players train in the mornings and usually have the majority of their afternoons off - wouldn't this mean their bodies are more used to activity earlier in the day and so, if anything, should prefer earlier kick-offs?

        Agreed. It's daft.

It's popular among Fantasy Football managers as they say when their captain fails it ruins the rest of their gameweek before it has really began. What they fail to factor in is that the inverse of this is true.

If a popular player like RVP has a stormer and you didn't captain him it makes the rest of the gameweek hell (ala Bale on Tues night).

A good read, I have the armband on Aguero at the moment. I have no idea if I'll be tempted to change that before the deadline tomorrow though.

While this point doesn't exactly run in line with RVP, I think it's important to choose a captain from a side who are in a good run of form (hence why Bale (c) last week was the best option). I'm expecting a big reaction from City tomorrow, and I think Aguero will be a part of that.

Aha, I know! But Arsenal havn't won in the league in over a month.

You could probably compare RVP and Aguero in the sense that RVP will create lots of chances for teammates and they'll miss them, whilst Aguero will create lots of chances for himself, and Dzeko will miss them.

I actually got into a dispute with someone at Christmas who said you "have" to captain RVP every week.

I explained that I had actually captained others ahead of him and the only time I hadn't captained RVP since GW4 and it was bettered was the Chelsea game.

They kept saying no wonder looking at my lowly FPL position imagine how high you would be with RVP captain, couldn't grasp the concept that my other captain choices had equalled or bettered so I would actually have been lower.

GW7 RVP got 2. I had Rooney captain with 5.
GW10 RVP got 19. I had Adebayor captain with 2 (this was Chelsea game, Ade home to QPR)
GW15 RVP got 7. I had Nani captain with 18.
GW16 RVP got 2. I had Ba captain with 2.
GW17 RVP got 11. I had Ba captain with 11.
GW18 RVP got 2. I had Nani captain with 3.

Think this is the point after where the argument was

      GW19 RVP got 9. I had Nani with a 1.
      GW20 RVP got 2. I had Bale with a 12.
      GW21 RVP got 6. I had Nani with a 3.
      GW22 RVP got 5. I had Sess with a 14.
      GW23 RVP got 2. I had Sess with a 10.

          Good for you.

You love your Sess(c) eh? 🙂 You have got the point of my post though, good man.

I don't believe anyone should be captained every week, we should always weigh up all the factors and make an educated guess, however if there was one person who could be it would be RVP for damage limitation. A lot of other players will be doing it and even when he doesn't get big hauls he can still grab a goal like in the two United games this season.

Well Sess did me proud and was home to Norwich this week, so even after Bale got the good score on Tues I still had a feeling Sess could have matched.

He potentially would have got a touch for the O.G. anyway, then came off after 80mins, so still did alright considering.

I think like you say you definitely need to take into account opposition and form of others in making the decision.

      Another cracker, as usual.
      A possibly note-worthy comment could be his scores after a 2 pointer the week before;
      GW2 - 2
      GW5 - 5
      GW8 - 12
      GW14 - 15
      GW17 - 11
      GW19 - 9
      GW21 - 6
So since the opening 2 gameweeks, he is yet to score 2 points consecutively this season, with 6 goals, 4 assists, 9 bp's for 60 points in the 7 games after he has scored a 2 pointer.

    Krul/Mignolet

    Richards/Evans/Caulkar/Simpson/Senderos

    Silva/Valencia/Bale/Dempsey/Mclean

    RVP/Aguero/Fletcher

Any suggestions? And also are people still captaining RVP?Not scared of the early game curse lol

Similar team, exactly the same problem.

If I had your team I'd do Valencia & Fletcher --> Walters & Ba.

What would you to with mine? (Team linked).

    Hi guys,

Would really appreciate your advice. Which sub should I make this week? 0.1 in bank, team below:

    Vorm (Lindegaard)
    Smalling, Richards, Williamson (Caulker, Shotton)
    Dempsey, Valencia, Sessegnon, Bale, Silva
    RVP(c), Aguero (vc) (Sturridge)

    A) Ba in for Sturridge, and start Ba instead of Sessegnon/Valencia/Dempsey
    B) Santon in for Shotton, and start Santon instead of Smalling (doubling up on Newcastle)
    C) Save transfer
    D) Evans in for Smalling, look to upgrade Shotton following week

    cheers!

That team looks expensive! I'd probably go for A, but at some stage you might want to downgrade a mid or you'll have problems deciding who to bench every week and will leave plenty of points on the bench.

    Hello.

I want to have Valencia no matter what cause he is top atm and also have no UTD coverage. My front guns are:

    Bale Silva Dempsey MOSES SESSEGNON
    rvp fletcher AGUERO

    Should i do:

    A) Moses & Sessegnon --> Valencia & McLean

    or

    B) Aguero & Moses --> Dzeko & Valencia
    * also allows me to get Ba for Fletcher if i need it in a couple of GW's...

    Much appreciated!!!

What's the general consensus on Walters? I want to upgrade Fletcher to either Cisse, Zamora or Ba and to do so need an some extra funds and he's looking the most expendable player (probably for Siggy). But having said that he does have 3 home fixtures in the next 4, he just fills me with no confidence though. Thoughts?

Is Moses (EVE) worth playing over Dempsey (city), Sess (stoke) and Bale (liv)? I know it sounds like a dumb question but Etihad is a fortress, stoke aren't too bad at home and Liverpool have been pretty good defensively. Dempsey will likely be playing OOP as will Moses.

I don't like the look of this GW. It's just one of those weeks where lots of people will have mids/atts VS defs from their own teams.
Personally I have Sessegnon VS Sorensen/ Huth and Dempsey VS Kompany.

Benching Dempsey, methinks, in favour of N Dyer (away to WBA)

      1) Keep previous seasons' history.
      2) Do the automatic substitutions right after the game to get a real score in real time.
      3) Get rid of the selling price BS. Should be able to sell at actual price. Like stocks.
