Stephane Sessegnon produced again in Wednesday’s thrashing of Norwich, just as he did against Swansea in Gameweek 22. It was the goal and an assist returns from that that game that came in for us at 5/1 last time out, fuelling our efforts for this week’s Fantasy Flutter.

Sergio Aguero was amongst the City side frustrated by the Goodison rearguard on Tuesday, but we perhaps shouldn’t read too much into another blank from the Argentinian. As a rule, Aguero saves his goals for home matches and with three in four Gameweeks to come, Fantasy managers are preparing for increased profits. Those could start flowing against Fulham this weekend. Paddy post a confident yet short 4/5 on Aguero to score and City to win against Martin Jol’s side, however, 21/10 on a brace for £5 offers just a little more reward for our risk.

Robert Huth was a monster last season, converting six goals, a tally which made him a hot Fantasy property and led to a significant price rise going into this term. Huth has found it difficult to live up to that reputation, however, with goals hard to come by, despite posing a significant threat in recent weeks. Paddy are offering 14/1 on the big German to deliver a goal and Stoke to keep Sunderland out at the Britannia – that’s worth a cheeky quid of our money.

Victor Moses was squeezed out of the Scout Picks this week, but, as today’s Watchlist article reveals, the fixture list offers hope that the Latics man will start to turn his potential into points over the next few weeks. Despite Everton holding firm against Roberto Mancini’s league leaders at bay in midweek, the Latics are fighting for survival and with Hugo Rodallega set to return to offer a sharper cutting edge, Moses and Wigan could be good for a goal or two. Paddy aren’t so sure and have been generous here, offering 8/1 on a Moses goal and Wigan to win, with a Moses goal and assist double at 18/1. As the anytime odds for Moses are rarely better than 7/2 across the board, 8/1 for £2 is a no brainer.

Our triple treat – the “who’s score the most goals” special is back on the menu this week with the Scout Picks forward line – Robin Van Persie, Aguero and Demba Ba all vying for our cash. Rather than a quick quip or analytical snippet as per usual, Demba Ba’s return to Newcastle’s line-up and a price of 11/2 requires little justification. Our last two quid is in the hands of the returning Magpies hat-trick hero.

Money Back Special

Paddy have focused on the two big encounters for their Money Back Specials this week. Down at Stamford Bridge, if a penalty is scored in the match between Chelsea and United, Paddy Power will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles. Over at Anfield meanwhile, if Gareth Bale scores anytime for Spurs, Paddy will again refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast single on the game.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Blackburn have failed to score four times in 23 matches. The same record as Arsenal.

Robin van Persie has scored 10 goals in 12 games against Blackburn.

Blackburn have lost only five of their last 15 away games in the Premier League.

A leaves your defense a bit thin but gives you the most popular front 3.

I prefer at least one of Richards or Kompany - Richards if you're stretched for funds, Kompany for more consistency. Any way you can squeeze in Richards & Aguero?

If not, I would take a relative risk and go with B.

    My plans for tomorrow morning:

    1) Get up 10.30 LATEST. This is going to take some time.

    2) Frantically search for sightings of RVP arriving at the Emirates / people in the know including him in the squad.

    3) Frantically check the snow damage and ask everyone living in affected areas if cancellations are possible.

    4) Search twitter for rumours.

    5) Miss the deadline.

No, I really don't. You have to play this game assuming rest won't happen. Arsenal have no hope of champions league if they don't start getting 3 points every game. They can't do that without Robin. Arsene is impossible to predict.

assume both will play, and it becomes clear that Aguero is a bad pick this week.

No, you have to play the percentages.

"Arsene being impossible to predict" just reinforces the point.

I'm not a believer. I'm a profiteer... I support Arsenal and I recognize RVP's ganetime is ridiculous. At some point, he will have to take a break. Maybe not now, maybe later. But it must be considered in the percentages

Isacki - Wenger is going to be too concerned about the backlash of resting RVP and losing a simple home game as this one. "Sacked in the morning" as they sing.

No Chamakh. That just seals it, imo.

I know from too many years of this Gooner nightmare that Wenger doesn't give a crap what the fans think. Remember, this guy is one of the most stubborn managers in world football. He is literally oblivious. It probably doesn't enter his head. And frankly, I gave up on him a long time ago.

Er... anyway... there can be no certainty RVP will or won't play. My position, however is that there can be enough uncertainty that someone else is a better captaincy choice. It's gray, not black and white.

To me, even with uncertainty, there is NO better captains choice. The one who is closest is Aguero, who has scored once in 6 games.

His scoring form is poor overall atm. He scores far more at home than away though, and this isn't a statistical quirk but a real trend that many players have (see: Sinclair, Walters, Mata, Nani). He is also now on penalties. As such, I had him just behind RVP for captaincy assuming both were nailed on. In the absence of this assumption for RVP, Aguero goes first.

If further information comes out tomorrow nailing RVP on, I respond to the information and put RVP first again.

I don't really get attached to players, I just play the percentages. It's a hard enough game without sentiment.

Even ruling out your Wenger argument, I have to say there could be 3 scenarios:
                1) He doesn't play at all - VC comes in. All's well.
                2) Ars are in trouble halfway/arnd 50+ mins - comes on for a 30-40 min cameo.
                3) Comes on for 0-20 mins. Can't see that happening.

In the worst case, 30-40 min cameo for RVP against a Samba-less BLA. I'd take that.

.... less than 40% of Kun's time is wishful thinking. that's just an advantage for Kun.
people thought a similar way about VDV doing lots in his limited game time. unsurprisingly in hindsight, he didn't. these are football players constrained by the bounds of fitness and time to do a job for the team. they're not trying to get their FPL owners a good score.

I don't even blame you for that. I already wish I had gone for a cheapie striker and gotten Sess and Richards on my WC. I am almost certain Aguero will get nothing this week.

O, and to address your earlier post: I'm really not worried about the Newcastle fixture. Its a Sunday game, so even if they have bad weather tonight, they'll have a day to clean it up. I like D Cisse and all, but if its me, I just get Ba now. Spurs defense isn't THAT good right now, and Ba scored against them last time they played.

If you're a true Spurs fan, you know this:

If things are good, bad luck is waiting just around the corner.

It was about this time last year that the refs screwed us out of that game with Chelsea, and put us out of champions league contention.

It's a bad time to be playing poorly.

Having heard that from a Spurs fan, I'll take that. Cheers Newman!

One last thing: Would you prefer Moses + Kelly over McClean + Senderos? Considering I have Sess.

I'm looking at Sunderland like a Top 4 side at the moment with their form. Also, Moses has been far too inconsistent - consistent from the bench though.

I think looking at Sunderland as a top 4 side is dangerous and erroneous. Let us not forget what happened at Chelsea. (I'm sorry to say this, but A HORRIBLE chelsea, by the way) They also drew against a very poor Everton side, at home!

For me, whoever you have, be it Moses or Mcclean, they are just meant to be bench sitters: the idea is to not spend money. Who cares if Moses is inconsistent: he isn't meant to be anything more! Mcclean is cheaper though, so I would pick him and Senderos. That is of course if you believe Senderos is more nailed on.

Also, one last time: find a place for Valencia! You will surely regret not having him, especially this week!

Could, yes. But it's going to downgrade my defense. Val could shift to RB as well - possibly a POO player.

Btw, fancy a cheeky punt on Rooney instead of Aguero this week? No Terry & Cole is not looking good for us.

The only player that I think I will regret not having this week is Suarez. But in all seriousness, why Valencia? I think Chelsea will be tough to break down, and if Villas Boas plays David Luiz in his best position(left back), I think it will be the best looking side they will have seen defensively all year. With Essien perhaps getting a full game as well, It could end a shutout. Not rating that game very highly attacking wise.

and as for the RVP argument, you lose nothing captaining him. If wenger rests him, Arsenal should still put a few on the board against sambaless blackburn, so no harm. I dont think RVP as captain should be the worry, rather who you pick as vice captain in case he doesnt play should be the topic of the day.

Aguero on paper may look a safe bet to you, but captain choice wins the league. I dont see aguero scoring a hattrick against fullham. I can see RVP doing so against blackburn. In Fact, I rate a few players over aguero this gw. If you are wildcarding, much better off going with dzeko.

Kinda sneaky that you chose to omit the 13 that comes before it... 4 of those games were away from home (we all know he's sh*t away from home)... the two home games were against Liverpool and Spurs... two sides who are arguably just as good away as they are at home this year...

Do you not understand what 'form' is? Form meaning...how they have played LATELY?

My point was not how good he was a long time ago: sure, he was awesome back then. I'll concede that to you.

But my point was this...how has he played LATELY? Answer: poorly.

No spinning here: just pointing out exactly how bad his form is.

Just because he hasn't scored well in FPL does not make him out of form... I think he has been looking very lively, and as his PPI suggests, his form over the last 6 weeks suggests he is playing as well as he has done all season...

His average ICT score over the 23 GWs is 12... His average ICT score over the last 6 GWs is 9... His average ICT score over the past 4 GWs is 10.5... so where exactly is this lack of form your talking about?

Granted the goals have not been flowing, but it's not exactly easy to win away these days in a very competitive league...

I don't know which City games you're watching, but he has looked sluggish and far from dangerous. The goals at City aren't flowing because they aren't playing as well, Aguero included.

The lack of form is one goal and zero assists in the past six. They put three past spurs and he wasn't involved in a single one. And that was at home. You can throw ICT in all you like, but until it translates into fantasy points, it doesn't mean a whole lot for a guy who can't score lately.

Fair enough, but paying close attention to the scoring trends of players this season, you'll notice that a lot of players are doing most of their scoring at home... The form you are referring to is poor away form mixed in with one bad game at home... and players are only human, they are allowed to have bad games occasionally...

The point is that Aguero has some of the most obliging away defenses coming up and to ignore that could be costly IMO...

But it looks like you have already made your mind up so I wish you good luck with your RVP captaincy...

im not going to posture that its an easy decision to bench one of sessegnon or dempsey. but it has to be done. i have to play sorensen (XlindegaardX), huth and richards. im not adverse to starting an attacker vs a defender, though i do avoid if its reasonable. But this is 2 attackers v 3 defenders. its damn near half my team battling itself. Plus I have a legit 4th defender to start in place, Santon.

So im benching Sess for 2 reasons, first Im hoping for a stoke cleanie more than a city one, having double the investment. Second, i am American, love Dempsey, and actually feel like im insulting him by benching him after being such a great diplomat for the sport, though Im still waiting for the rest of the country to notice. 🙁 Oh, and credit to jonty on the fact presented that fulham have scored vs city in their previous 4 meetings.

so last chance for anyone to sway my decision.

And especially with snow doubt over the Man CIty game (as it's two hours later), I reckon the likes of Aguero/Silva are at risk of not playing too. I'm sticking with RVP and expecting a sub-20 total score from my team this week after snow kills Man City v Fulham and the Newc game (I have 3 players in my squad from each of these 3 sides).

Huth if I had to pick one. But mainly because we don't know how the QPR defence will be now it's been remodelled.

Taiwo may be playing OOP, but getting him would basically be for his attacking returns, as QPR are evidently unable to keep clean sheets.

On the other hand, Stoke are defensively strong at home and Huth is a goal threat, however, with Europa League games coming up, I can see them struggling and rotation may also be a problem.

This is such a tough decision!

On the playing Dempsey issue this weekend, if you think about it, playing him is sort of a decent risk differentially. If he does score which he very well could, you gain those points and may lose points on a city clean sheet, but you're gaining points on every player that has a city defender and didn't have the guts to play Dempsey...see the logic?

On another note, should I throw in Vermaelen and Valencia or hope Zamora has a dream debut vs Wolves?

I just realized that I have a conflicting line up... I have Huth and no Citeh defenders because I think Fulham will score, precisely because they have for the last 4 seasons...

But on the flipside, I have Sess in right now ahead of Dempsey... surely it makes more sense to play Dempsey to avoid the 'DEF v ATT' conflict?

But that is a move that just doesn't sit right with me... I feel that if Sunderland score, and they invariably will, Sess will be the likely beneficiary... (same goes for Fulham and Dempsey, I guess) 😕

    Thoughts?

Torn on who to start between Enrique and Naylor this week.

Normally this would be a no-brainer, you wouldn't start a defender playing against Spurs. But if Tottenham are really as depleted as the rumours suggest, suddenly a 'Pool CS doesn't sound completely out of the question...

And then to complicate things, the prospect of Swansea playing away. West Brom are sh*t, but are they sh*t enough for Swansea to keep a CS?

i never condone starting anyone against my spurs, but aye, we are depleted, its no rumour. swansea are not the same animal away from Liberty. IF pool get anything out of the spurs game, Enrique would be a BP candidate as well.
