Jonathan Walters grabs a penalty as Stoke see off Crawley Town. ‘Arry rings the changes at Stevenage, with four key players ruled out for Spurs. Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez are amongst the goals as Liverpool hammer Brighton to continue their unbeaten domestic cup run and advance to the Sixth Round:

Jonathan Walters
The Irishman had started up front alongside Peter Crouch in the midweek Europa League clash with Valencia but was shifted back into midfield against Crawley yesterday. Walters’ out-of-position status is becoming increasingly reduced as the weeks go by- a clear worry for his 12% Fantasy owners ahead of the upcoming home games with Swansea and Norwich.

With Tony Pulis ringing the changes after Thursday’s 1-0 defeat, Cameron Jerome partnered Crouch up top once again, as Walters was shuffled out to the wing. Despite missing his last spot-kick against West Brom in Gameweek 22, Walters –who has dropped from 6.7 to 6.5 in recent weeks, was still handed penalty duties yesterday, slotting home the opener in the Potters’ 2-0 win.

Peter Crouch
The former Spurs man grabbed Stoke’s second, heading home just after the break to help secure victory. The afore-mentioned home games will perhaps see Fantasy investment in Pulis’ squad and, with Crouch the only real guarantee up front right now, his goal will have turned a few heads. A look at his performances at the Britannia highlights the fact that Crouch has been far from prolific in front of his own fans, though; he has found the net in just two home games this season, with his last coming against Blackburn in Gameweek 13.

Harry Goes 3-5-2
After their 5-0 win over Newcastle, Spurs came back down to earth with a bang yesterday, as Stevenage held Harry Redknapp’s visitors to a goalless draw. The Tottenham boss opted for a 3-5-2 formation, handing Ryan Nelsen his first start for the London outfit, while Louis Saha kept his place up front, with Jermain Defoe coming into the first XI.

Redknapp fielded a much-changed lineup but, despite the likes of Gareth Bale, Scott Parker and Kyle Walker all featuring, the away side were hugely disappointing. Bale was granted a role “in the hole”, tucking in behind the front pair before Redknapp switch to a 4-4-2 on the hour mark, but Spurs rarely threatened, with just five efforts on target all match. A replay date of Wednesday March 7 at the Lane now provisionally penciled in.

Spurs Injury Worries
Post-match, Redknapp outlined the reasons for his host of first-team alterations. Ahead of next Sunday’s north London derby with Arsenal, the Spurs boss gave Fantasy managers plenty to ponder, after revealing he has concerns over four key players. Benoit Assou-Ekotto had a minor groin operation on Monday and is a doubt, Emmanuel Adebayor twisted his knee in training and missed out, Luka Modric is suffering from flu, while Rafael Van der Vaart is still recovering from a calf problem.

The absence of Assou-Ekotto is not only a worry for his 24% Fantasy owners, it may possibly have a knock-on effect on Gareth Bale. The Welshman would be the natural replacement at left-back in Assou-Ekotto’s possible absence, though given his attacking output this term, Redknapp would be more inclined to keep Bale further up the pitch for the Arsenal game, given the Gunners’ current frailties at the back.

Martin Skrtel
The centre-half underlined his increased goal threat by grabbing the opener against the Seagulls. Skrtel headed the Reds on their way within five minutes and has now bagged three goals this term; his highest haul since joining up at Anfield four seasons ago. The Slovakian is Liverpool’s top-scoring FPL defender so far, with 95 points, and with an upturn in fixtures from Gameweek 29 onwards, Skrtel’s 6% ownership –compared to Jose Enrique’s 32%, for example- could prove a handy differential in the final quarter. Elsewhere in defence, Jamie Carragher came in alongside Skrtel in the heart of the back-four, with injury ruling out Daniel Agger.

Luis Suarez
An assist for an own goal, a missed penalty and a late goal in the 6-1 rout completed an eventful day for the Uruguayan. With Craig Bellamy ruled out due to injury, Suarez started alongside Andy Carroll and Steven Gerrard for the very first time and the Merseysiders looked lethal going forward. Granted, Brighton hardly helped their own cause with three own goals but the fact that this was Liverpool’s biggest win since Dalglish returned to the club last season perhaps bodes well for the attacking assets over the remainder of the campaign.

Suarez won’t be head of the queue for penalties, though. Dalglish revealed after the game that he “let sentiment get in the way” when he asked the regular spot-kick takers to step aside for the Uruguayan in the 80th minute. The likes of Charlie Adam and Dirk Kuyt were both on the pitch when Suarez saw his spot-kick saved by Peter Brezovan but with Dalglish going on to concede “I’ll learn my lesson”, Suarez looks likely to once again remain further back in the pecking order.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Guys! I was wondering from which week is it best to get Liverpool defenders and it is worth doubling up on them?

    My team:

    Krul Vorm

    Kompany Simpson Caulker Evans Huth

    Silva Sess Siggy Dempsey Bale

    RVP Aguero Ba

    Bank: 3.3 mil.

    Thanks;)

And as was pointed out yesterday Kuyt didn't dive, even though Noone fouled him. The Noone in question is a nippy winger Craig Noone, who's usually good.

Latest update from the UEFA HQ:

It is with utter disappointment that we have to expel our last ineligible manager (lurker alert) from the Europa, Jakey. The managerial position at Maribo is now vacant. And we are open to 2 more managers applying for this position, after which we shall conduct a draw for the last spot.

The managers who've already applied are: (Please provide your team links to confirm participation)
    1) Jinswick
    2) Roonatic
    3) Disparate Dan

On the positive side of things, we are proud to announce that Europe (both Cups) is now lurker-free!

Watch out for more updates on the latest recruitment from Parmtree/Udit 🙂

    FFS Europe League Preview

    GROUP D

Sporting Lisbon (EpicFAIL – Rank: 9,787)
Let it be known that we are dealing with another strong contender for group winner here but he has a tough rival in Gargamel. Most would recognise him on the comments for his witty replies and vibrant Aston Villa grav but that his changed recently to something altogether more... frightening. You'll have to ask him what that is about :P. Anyhow being the 3rd seed for the whole tournament, his credentials are not in doubt. He is set for another top 10k finish after finishing 6825th last season and notably is still armed with a precious wildcard in the twilight of this strange season.
Key differential = James McClean and Taye Taiwo are handy little budget differentials but the acquisition of Joe Hart could be genius. If we see a penalty save and/or rotation in the City backline, we may well see EpicFail reap added benefit from that popular City backline.

    Lazio (Gargamel – Rank: 61,344)
Very well known on the boards for his insightful posts and the depth of his footballing knowledge he will make for a formidable opponent. His current rank may be a little unflattering but his previous finishes certainly put things into perspective. In 5 previous seasons Gargamel has never finished in a worse rank than the one he currently possesses and has 4 top 10k finishes in 5 seasons. Although EpicFail is the top seed in this group, plenty will be looking to claim a famous scalp here and don't be surprised if it is Gargamel who finishes top of the pile in Group D.
Key differential = Unsurprisingly he has a very solid side with few real “risks”. Stoke clean sheets may well be the difference in any of his H2H encounters. With two home games on the way, he will be looking for Ryan Shawcross to deliver at the back and perhaps get his head on one of Stoke’s well-rehearsed set pieces. A creative replacement for Huth may also prove to be handy here.

Zurich (Yossi- The Jewish Iniesta – Rank: 170,688)
No offence to young Yossi, but we’re dealing with another slow burning and unremarkable season here. He has done well to come back from 1.2 million in GW7 to his current rank but he'll want to push on and use this competition as his springboard to success. For inspiration he’ll be looking to that score of 88 in GW22 which was the 540th best score that week. Nice!
Key differential = The double up of Richards & Kompany at the back looks to be the key element of his side. If City can rack up the clean sheets and their teammates don't put too many in the other goals, Yossi will have a firm foundation upon which to build a surge for the knockout stages.

    Vaslui (Coriswrasse – Rank: 449,720)
He is certainly this group’s minnow and with 2 x 12pt hits, 2 x 8pt hits so far and a couple of 4 pointers for good measure, he may need to rein in this transfer philosophy if he is to make any waves in this H2H competition.
Key differential = Almost in direct opposition to what Yossi has went with, Coriswrasse’s hopes of success in the tournament lies with a double up on City’s attack i.e. Aguero and Dzeko. Taraabt and HBA may also cause some headaches for his opponents.

Right guys, opinions appreciated again (and I'm hoping none of my UCL opps from GroupB are liurking!)

This is my proposed team going into GW26
    Krul
    Evans, Santon, Shawcross
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sessegnon
    RVP, Aguero, Ba

    Subs: Vorm, Walters, Kelly, Enrique

This is based on using my 1 FT to do Dzeko to Aguero. Does this look ok for the week or do you think there are other transfers needed before the Dzeko > Aguero switch?

    Many thanks

CatMac - something wrong in the midfield here. If you don't feel like playing Walters this week - you must get him out.

Citeh are a minefield, but Djoko to Kun doesn't feel right at this time. I think Dempsey should be on the pine ...

So: Walters to Yaya or Cabaye?

PS I AM playing Etherington ...

        Morning Doos.

I have no faith in Walters and the switch I really WANT to do is Walters to M Davies/Beausejour and Dzeko to Rooney, but that is a 4pt hit and I dont know if it will pay off.

I need to downgrade Walters to a 5.0m or so mid to get Rooney in, but cant get Cabaye as I already have 3 Newc players.

Are you suggesting not to do any transfers this week but play Walters and bench Dzeko?

No, play Djoko and bench Dempsey.

If you were brave enough to take a hit:

          Walters to Cleverley
          Djoko to Rooney?

Sorry Doos, my brain must be fuddled this Monday morning, I'm not sure I understand.

Dempsey is playing QPR! And I'm not sure how much game time Dzeko will get.
Also not convinced yet by Cleverley as to whether he will be a regular starter or not.

You've definitely thrown a spanner in the works there, though. Needs some careful thought 😉

With Arsenal looking dire, and with the fact that when they crumbled last season their form went to ratsh*t, winning just 3 of the last 11/12 league games, is anybody considering RVP out?

I've been looking at Aguero to Rooney in a few weeks as have many, but I'm seriously thinking about RVP to Rooney instead right now, which also works favourably financially too.

am consideri8ng losing RvP, but he's perhaps the only reliable Arsenal player there is as is their key to everything.

      I can't imagine a side without RVP.

Even when they were ratsh*t at the end of last season RVP was still getting his goal a game

Of course he has still got it in him, and Gervinho could help.

I'm just thinking that if Arsenal can't shake off this slump RVP's output could be seriously hindered to the extent that other players become better options.

Yup, very tempted, it's tough to decide between the three real candidates at that price in Nani/Mata/Young but I'd say a punt on Young is a good idea if you can afford it.

I'd have to downgrade elsewhere to do so, so I'm not sure about it, but it's a definite option.

Who should I look to be getting rid of Ben Arfa for? Just compiling a list of options really, this'll be from GW27 onwards. Current midfield of Bale, McClean, Silva and Dempsey (ergh cliché).

    -Mark Davies
    -Sigurdsson
    -Miyachi

Be the third time getting Baines for me, had horrible luck with him but Everton seem to be hitting the second half of season purple patch, will probably look at Pienaar too, especially round the DGW. I'm just tempted by GJ even at his price, he looks dangerous going forward and I actually think he's playing really well at the moment. Baines GJ & Evans (if he keeps his place) looks a good back 3 IMO.

If I get Baines it will be my 3rd time as well...also bought and sold Silva twice....nothing to be proud of...

Pienaar +GJ is tempting me but Baines will be the ultimate diff in my league....

Don't you know Tosey? Elninorules is organizing a UCL and Europa competitions in which each manager is given a team after which it's in the format of the real competition based on H2H, entry closed a while back, but you're in luck if you want to join, read elnino's post above.

    Morning All,

Havent been on for a week so would really appreciate some input on my team. Main concerns Valencia and BAE, and possibly Sorenson if hes out of favor now.
I have two free transfers, couple of options I have looked at
    A) Downgrade BAE to bring in Nani for Valencia, then Wilcard in couple of weeks.
    B) Is a more longterm plan to save my wildcard till later and downgrade Valenicia to Siggy this week, giving me the option to upgrade Aguero>Rooney and Kelly>Enrique over next two gameweeks

    Sorenson (Mignolet)
    Evans Kompany Simpson (BAE Kelly)
    Silva McClean Bale Dempsey (Valencia)
    RVP Aguero Baa

Team looks great, but in the interests of not wasting a free transfer, I would take the opportunity to downgrade Valencia now and free up funds for moves in future weeks.

    Hi guys,

    My team is

    Sorensen / Lindegaard
    Defence: okay
    Silva / Bale / Dempsey / Sess / Walter
    Rvp / Aguero / Ba

I'm gonna ditch walters and one of my keepers in next two weeks, then aguero to rooney in gw28.
    What do you think, which one sounds best;

    a) Sorensen => Krul, then Walters => McClean next week (will lose 0,2 on value)

    b) Walters => McClean, then Sorensen => Krul or Schwarzer next week (don't lose value, but will Sorensen start this week?)

I'm clearly hoping lindegaard comes back for gw28, is there any point to keep him instead of Sorensen?

    Cheers

I've got the same keeper combo, and my main worry is that I don't expect Lindegaard to regain the #1 spot once he returns as De Gea has done well since Lindy got injured.

I'm happy to keep Sorensen for the next 2 GW, but after that he's gotta go.

    UEFA Announcement :
The board has decided to Instate Disparate Dan as the new manager of Maribor in place of the removed Jakey. Commiserations to Roonatic, Jinswick and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, you'll all be on the waitlist and who knows maybe there will be a part to play later on. Thanks.

Right then. The draw has been done - it is with great joy that UEFA announce the latest recruitment of Disparate Dan as the manager of NK Maribor.

Please join me in congratulating Dan 🙂 Makes Group H a very close one with Dan's recruitment.

Impressive - Please take note. Thanks 😀

I am not at peace because Rooney isnt on my team! And its not an easy choice to get rid of RVP, Aguero or Ba.... as a Man United fan I am against the ropes

    What should I do?

Stay firm, do the hokey pokey, and get Rooney in for Aguero in a couple weeks time, that's what I'm looking to do!

that's quiteh ard to do... it seems everybody are going to bring him on for GW 28.

I plan to bring him one minute after the deadline, since his price will increase after 2 GWs.

    FFS Europa League Preview

    GROUP E

Dynamo Kyiv (JohnD – Rank: 16,600) This is the celebrity group with each team manager instantly recognisable to any FFS regular. Impressively John D has never been outside of the top 200k at any time this season. A rare good start from one of the managers in this competition means he has been hovering around the top 10k for the majority of his this campaign. 6th seed overall, you may see his previous finishes as reason to discount him from the "big hitters" in the competition but for me he has shown real staying-power this season. Couple that with the fact that he is still armed with his wildcard and he should do well in this tournament.
Key differential = Another pot 1 manager who has opted for Joe Hart is interesting however I think it could be his lack of Silva instead opting instead for the Dzeko/Aguero partnership up front which could make the difference. With 1 free transfer already made, I suspect Dzeko has been shown the door, in which case Moses and Walters may will be important.

    Besiktas (Jack(off)Attack – Rank: 102,660)
As popular as regulars come on the boards, we’re sure to enjoy some fine banter from Jack during the course of this competition and we may even see the return of his famous SuperVorm grav. His current rank is misrepresentative as he is only outside of the top 100k after dropping almost 40k places following a disastrous GW25. He’ll be hoping to bounce back from this setback and Group E may just see a backlash from this infamous poster.
Key differential = Much like Gargamel’s team in Group D it is very solid. Jose Enrique will be a crafty differential for Jack over the course of the group stages but he’ll also be glad to note that the departure of Prisoner FC has left him as the only member of Group E with a certain Demba Ba. That could be massive for Jack.

Stoke (The Parmtree – Rank: 240,410)
Instrumental in putting together this glorious competition with ENR, he is one of the host nations and therefore plenty will be supporting him in his quest for domination of Group E. Looking at his gameweek history it is clear he has had a rollercoaster of a season yo-yoing in and out of the top 100k before some poor form led him to his current rank. He’ll be hoping this cup is a welcome distraction and helps restore some stability to this erratic season. If anything, all of his hard work organising the competition should be rewarded with a place in the knockout stages but success must be earned and not received.
Key differential = Although Steven Fletcher and Hatem Ben Arfa are his “needles in the hay” here, it will be his potential replacement for Valencia that could be key.

    M.Tel-Aviv (Light Knight – Rank: 373,015)
Prisoner FC has earned early parole from the competition and been replaced by Light Knight riding in on his powerful steed. Looking at his season so far, it has been a tough one which is represented by his current rank. A slow start saw him outside of the top 1 million after 5 gameweeks but he then went on to record 10 green arrows in the following 11 gameweeks which does at least show he is capable of putting a good run together when required. His previous finishes aren’t pretty so he may have to use this underdog status to his advantage if he is to progress from group E.
Key differential: A compliment I’d like to pay to Light Knight is that it is very refreshing to see a team so full of original picks. Cech, Vermalean, Bardsley, Gerrard, AOC, McClean, VDV, Sturridge and Dzeko. Any game he is involved in is sure to be exciting and this is the type of team that will take him to the upper echelons of the competition or see him crash and burn.

        Thanks Dr. Ennet.

Good to have some positive comments as I am clearly getting on some people's nerves already.

It's a bit of an ego trip for myself doing the write ups but I am trying to make it about the entrants and their teams rather than myself.
