International friendly week always fills Fantasy managers with dread. Already, we’ve seen a number of call-offs; the likes of Papiss Cisse, Didier Drogba, Rafael Van der Vaart and Phil Bardsley are all nursing apparent injuries ahead of the weekend. Elsewhere, Peter Odemwingie, Mark Schwarzer and Javier Hernandez have long-distance games on the agenda. All we can do now is watch on, cross our fingers, and hope none of our best-laid plans are scuppered:

Rafael Van der Vaart is one of a number of players to withdraw from international action. While most of the absentees could be classified as no more than precautionary, the Dutch FA confirmed Van der Vaart picked up an ankle injury at the Emirates on Sunday, and has been ruled out of Holland’s friendly with England tomorrow. Van der Vaart has only just returned from a calf problem, playing the second half in the 5-2 defeat at Arsenal- Harry Redknapp is likely to be cautious this weekend against United, for fear of further time on the sidelines for the Dutchman.

Redknapp has more injury worries, with the news that Kyle Walker has withdrawn from the England squad after he, too, picked up an ankle problem at Arsenal. With Vedran Corluka farmed out on loan, the Spurs boss has recalled Adam Smith from a loan spell at Leeds, perhaps raising question marks over Walker’s availability for this weekend’s home clash against the champions.

Newcastle have confirmed Papiss Demba Cisse picked up a slight groin injury in the 2-2 draw with Wolves. The forward was subbed off just after the hour mark with the problem and has since pulled out of Senegal’s game against South Africa, having been assessed by the club’s medical staff ahead of Sunday’s derby with Sunderland.

Didier Drogba is out of Ivory Coast’s friendly with Guinea. The Chelsea forward picked up a knee problem in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bolton and is now undergoing treatment, with the Blues medical department monitoring his progress ahead of the trip to West Brom.

Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of the Gary Speed Memorial match tomorrow evening. The Arsenal man was due to skipper Wales against Costa Rica but has failed to recover from an ankle injury picked up in the FA Cup defeat at Sunderland earlier this month.

Stephen Kelly has pulled out of the Republic of Ireland squad with a thigh problem. The right-back played the entire match in Fulham’s win at QPR on Saturday and has now established himself as an integral part of Martin Jol’s back-four, starting the last nine game for the Cottagers.

Phil Bardsley may miss out for Sunderland this weekend. The full-back has withdrawn from the Scotland squad due to a calf problem, with reports suggesting he may have torn the muscle. Bardsley is set for scans ahead of his side’s trip to Newcastle- his omission could perhaps see John O’Shea move from the centre to right-back, with Matt Kilgallon coming into the heart of defence.

Glen Johnson has, this afternoon, become the fifth player to pull out of the England squad to face Holland. The right-back is said to have trained this morning but then reported an unspecified “minor problem“ and will head back to Anfield to be assessed.

Daniel Agger has ruled himself out of contention for Denmark’s game against Russia tomorrow. The centre-half is feared to have sustained a broken rib in the Carling Cup win over Cardiff and, although there has been no official confirmation of a definite absence, his withdrawal will give his Fantasy owners cause for concern, particularly with Liverpool’s double gameweek just around the corner.

Alan Hutton is making his way back to Aston Villa after pulling out of the Scotland squad to face Slovenia. The right-back is said to have suffered pain in the top of his hamstring and, after being assessed by the Scotland doctors, has been sent back to the midlands for further examination.

Elsewhere, a handful of players face extended travel periods this midweek. Javier Hernandez turns out for Mexico at 1am Thursday in a home clash against Colombia. With United not playing until Sunday, though, his Fantasy owners will be hopeful the forward will have enough recovery time to feature in the trip to White Hart Lane.

Victor Moses and Peter Odemwingie feature for Nigeria, as the Super Eagles travel to Rwanda in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday. Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi plays for Oman in a crucial World Cup qualifier against Thailand at 9.30am Wednesday and should have enough in the tank to be ready for Saturday’s game with Swansea.

Bolton’s on-loan star Ryo Miyaichi is set for his Japan debut against Uzbekistan at 10.30 tomorrow morning. Mark Schwarzer faces a home game for Australia against Saudi Arabia- this kicks off at 09.30 tomorrow morning and, with Fulham not playing till Sunday, their keeper looks to have plenty recovery time ahead of the home game with Wolves.

Finally, a little domestic news. Alex McLeish has talked up the prospects of Andreas Weimann after the youngster produced a series of outstanding displays in the Villa reserves. Weimann has grabbed two hat tricks in his last three games, with McLeish describing him as “one of the most natural finishers I have seen for quite some time.”

With Darren Bent likely to be ruled out for the season after rupturing ankle ligaments in the weekend draw at Wigan, Robbie Keane back in the US after his loan deal finished and Gabby Agbonlahor having only scored once since Gameweek 7, McLeish is in dire need of a goalscorer. Weimann –priced at a mere 5.0- may be on course for a first-team start ahead of a run of games that reads (bla, FUL, BOL) over the next three gameweeks.

Arsene Wenger’s post-match comments on Theo Walcott after the 5-2 win over Spurs were revealing. Admitting he had considered subbing off the winger after a section of the crowd began to criticise Walcott’s performance, Wenger explained he kept faith, as he feels that the winger’s style of play is unique amongst the Arsenal squad:

I felt that he has the qualities that, considering the rest of the team, are highly needed. He is a player who can be straight and go behind the defenders – nobody else is like that. He is a very direct player, he can sometimes miss a first touch but considering the balance of the team I thought it was important to keep him in the side.

Wenger’s line of thinking, in spite of the calls for Walcott’s exclusion, suggests he will not bow to pressure and is likely to lead to reduced game time for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. With Gervinho still being eased back into action after his African Cup of Nations exertions, Yossi Benayoun was given the nod ahead of the youngster on the left and with Walcott vindicating Wenger’s decision with a double against their north London rivals, Oxlade Chamberlain’s 5.4% owners may be set for a testing time ahead.

Reports suggest Tom Cleverley may return to action next week for Man United. The midfielder limped out of the Europa League loss to Ajax on Thursday with an ankle problem but scans have revealed there is no serious problem, meaning Cleverley could come back against Atletico Bilbao in the next round of European action.

Carlos Tevez returned to action for Man City this afternoon, as the Argentine steps up his fitness after months on the sidelines. Tevez started for City’s reserves in the 3-1 defeat by Preston but failed to make any impact before being subbed off at half time.

considering Dempsey out for Lamps in GW32, if Chelsea beat Brum and somehow manage to get past Napoli it could be a few weeks before they can fit in City game, getting Lamps in ahead of a DGW could be nice

    GW28 plan

    2FTs

    Aguero ➡ Rooney/Suarez

    and either

    Siggi ➡ Surman
    Taiwo ➡ McAuley
    Richards ➡ Skrtel

Would ove to maybe triple up but nor sure Dempsey ➡ Adam/Gerrard is worth a hit

Chelsea's fixtures GW32 look too good to pass up. DGW makes Suarez tempting, his lack of form all season (FPL wise) puts me off, still Rooney could outscore him in 1 fixture, especially as he is on pens.

    hi!

haven't been on here for a while, been away. i'm planning my team for this week, how does this look?

    vorm (doubt)
    kompany, cahill, kelly (doubt)
    bale, silva, dempsey, val (doubt)
    ba, aguero, rvp
    bench: krul, mcclean, caulker, evans

got a few doubtful players on the team, but worse case scenario, krul comes in for vorm, caulker, comes in for kelly, and mcclean comes in for val. so how does this look?

Cheers guys. If I downsized Ba to Cisse (pricewise) I could afford the midfield of: Demps, Bale, Silva, Mata, Mclean. I would have a forward line of Aguero, RVP, Cisse. I just like that midfield for the next few gameweeks. Your opinion?

There is definitely something in what many have said, which was that Cisse's presence is reducing Ba's goal threat. He's no longer the sole focal point of the team.

I'm keeping Ba for the moment in the hope he'll regain his scoring touch but will be monitoring it closely...

Hi guys, how do these fixtures look:

Gw28 - rooney in for aguero
Gw29 - Kelly in for shotton
    Gw30 - skrtel in for Kelly/caulker

Would give me 12 players for gw29 - other option is to get skrtel in for shotton gw28 for his dgw, but that's for a hit and I would only have 11 for gw 29.

    Vorm, mignolet
    Richards, Evans, Williamson, caulker, shotton
    Bale, dempsey, silva, valencia, mcclean
    Rvp, aguero, Ba

    Cheers!

    FIXTURE CHANGE - VILLA AWAY
In order to avoid a clash with the FA Cup Final on Saturday, May 5, all Premier League fixtures that day have been rescheduled.
Our match away to Aston Villa has therefore been moved to Sunday, May 6, kick-off 2pm.
However, the match remains subject to further rearrangement as part of the May broadcast selection process.

    Hey lads,

Is the Liverpool/Everton DGW confirmed for next week(GW28)?

If so I'm looking to bring in a midfielder from either of the two for Sess this week cos i have two frees and HAVE to make a trade(rest of team is A OK).

Options in that price range are:

    Downing, Henderson, Drenthe, Fellaini.

Non of them really fill me with confidence but hey, it's an absolutely free trade!

Excluding the suspension the longest period Suarez went without scoring or assisting is three games.
Plus his stats, and watching him play to an extent, indicate he should be scoring and picking up assist more often that he has done.

Overview on cheap Midfield options. (UPDATED)

Pilkington(£5.2m) - The Norwich City midfeilder has been one of the stand out players this season for the Canaries delivering 7 goals this season from 22 apperances on the Left-Wing, including two in the past three Gameweeks against Swansea and Bolton respectively. The ex-Huddersfield man also has some favourable fixtures coming up including a home tie against fellow promoted side Swansea. Norwich also feature in Gameweek 29 at the Sports Direct Arena as they take on Newcastle in one of only 5 games due to take palce during that Gameweek.

    Next 6: Stoke City(A),Wigan (H),Newcastle(A),Wolves (H),Fulham (A),Everton(H).

McClean(£4.8m) - The young Irishman failed to feature under Steve Bruce this season, not off the bench. But Martin O'Neill gambled on the youngster to make an impression, statrting with a few sub apperances. McClean then featured for the full 90 minutes in the home game against Man City, in which he recieved 3 bonus points. This was followed up by a goal and 3 bonus points once again as Sunderland beat Wigan 4-1 at the DW. By then the bandwagon was officially on, and those who got on early were rewarded with 26 points scored over the next 3 gameweeks. Despite these scorers many managers have been fustrated of having the Winger on the bench for his above-par scores, although his fixtures take a turn for the worst in coming weeks.

    Next 6: Newcastle(A),Liverpool (H),N/A,QPR(H),Man City(A),Tottenham(H).

Moses(£4.8m) - The Holy one as he as known as around these parts failed to live up to his potential earlier in the season and has become the laughing stock of this site ever since, despite praise from Mark. The English born Nigerian's best game came at an unexpected time, a 13 point haul Away at The Hawthorns after numerous 2 pointers. Yet many still back him to do well in his next few games against the less sides in the league.

    Next 6: Swansea(H),Norwich(A),West Brom (H),Liverpool (A),Stoke City(H),Chelsea(A)

Myaichi(£4.9m) - The Arsenal loanee has yet to prove hamself at Bolton but keeping Bulgarian Martin Petrov out of the side is always a good start. With many already looking beyond the next few gameweeks Myaichi's fixture look rather easy compared to others but a bare fixture in Gameweek 29 will leave many looking for alternatives to the Japanese winger rather than having less than 11 in the side.

    Next 6: Man City(A),QPR (H),N/A,Blackburn(H),Wolves(A),Fulham(H)

N.Dyer(£4.8m) - Dyer has been the main benchwarmer for many sides and when called upon he gave Fantasy managers a 10 point haul in Gmeweek 20 followed by 13 points at Home to Arsenal a week later. Despite those hauls he hasn't returned much more than 2 or 3 throughout the season. He has also been pulled off early in recent weeks which is a bad sign for many Dyer owners as his Gametime may be limited in weeks to come with competition from Wayne Routledge on the right-wing.

    Next 6: Wigan(A),Man City(H),Fulham(A),Everton(H),Tottenham(A),Newcastle(H).

Sigurdsson(£5.0m) - The Icelandic midfielder has been a huge differential for many Fantasy Managers in recent weeks. Sigurdsson made a big impact on the Swansea side coming on as a second half substitute in the Swansea 3-2 home win, of which he picked up an assist in. Since then he was eased into the side. Then, those 3,800 or so managers recieved a 13 point haul from the away game against West Brom. He has also been taking corners in recent weeks, and from them corners his fellow Swan Steven Caulker has hit the post twice. But his fixtures look to dip slightly with Man City,Everton and Newcastle coming to The Liberty Stadium in the next few weeks or so.

    Next 6: Wigan(A),Man City(H),Fulham(A),Everton(H),Tottenham(A),Newcastle(H).

Morrison(£5.3) - James Morrison has come into the spotlight this week after 17 points in the past two gameweeks, a goal in the home game against Sunderland and two assists away to Wolves. Morrison has been a massive differential for the 0.7% that currently own him after seeing him drop from £5.5m to £5.3m over the course of the season, and it doesn't stop there, Roy Hodgson's side have scored 9 goals in the past two games, and this form could continue with Wigan(A) in his next six, although games against United and Chelsea are before that Gameweek 29 game at The DW Stadium hopefully the past few weeks have been a good sign of things to come.

    Next 6: Chelsea(H),Man Utd(A),Wigan (A),Newcastle(H),Everton(A),Blackburn(H).

Just wonder how many are going to stick with the ubiquitous RVP/Aguero/Ba?

I have all three, just like most others. But am trying to look at the three strikers:

    1. RVP. Stick. You NEVER transfer out RVP (OK maybe if suffered leg amputation)
    2. Expensive striker. Rotate. Don't worry about small price gains/losses
    3. Cheap/mid striker. Rotate on fixtures and if need to upgrade midfielder (i.e. The Pog allows this, as Graham did/does)

    Bale / Mata / Surman
    Rooney / SUAREZ / Ba

    Mignolet / Dempsey / McClean / Santon

No RVP is a punt I have already taken and will be sticking with for at least the next few weeks. I was already planning bringing Baines in, in about 2-3 weeks anyway so I may aswell get him in for the double.

I already have two Liverpool at the back so Suarez will be the only player I will get in that I wouldn't even before the announcement of the DGW.

From what i've seen, I like him, think he'd be a good fit. He's certainly in great form this season. 15 goals in 20. Hopefully this doesn't mean the end of RVP!

He's a winger isn't he? So I'm assuming he would play LW.

Winger/Striker. He's been playing as a striker for Cologne this season.

For Germany, he plays as an LAM/LW right, he would fit in very nicely into a 4-3-3 and maybe his signature could prompt RVP to reconsider seeing this as a positive move to get quality players in.

Yep fit into a 4-3-3 nicely. But Podolski alone wont stop RVP if he wants to go.

Would be a great signing though. I thought Schalke had bid for him and offered to double his wages so i won't get my hopes up yet.
