International friendly week always fills Fantasy managers with dread. Already, we’ve seen a number of call-offs; the likes of Papiss Cisse, Didier Drogba, Rafael Van der Vaart and Phil Bardsley are all nursing apparent injuries ahead of the weekend. Elsewhere, Peter Odemwingie, Mark Schwarzer and Javier Hernandez have long-distance games on the agenda. All we can do now is watch on, cross our fingers, and hope none of our best-laid plans are scuppered:

Rafael Van der Vaart is one of a number of players to withdraw from international action. While most of the absentees could be classified as no more than precautionary, the Dutch FA confirmed Van der Vaart picked up an ankle injury at the Emirates on Sunday, and has been ruled out of Holland’s friendly with England tomorrow. Van der Vaart has only just returned from a calf problem, playing the second half in the 5-2 defeat at Arsenal- Harry Redknapp is likely to be cautious this weekend against United, for fear of further time on the sidelines for the Dutchman.

Redknapp has more injury worries, with the news that Kyle Walker has withdrawn from the England squad after he, too, picked up an ankle problem at Arsenal. With Vedran Corluka farmed out on loan, the Spurs boss has recalled Adam Smith from a loan spell at Leeds, perhaps raising question marks over Walker’s availability for this weekend’s home clash against the champions.

Newcastle have confirmed Papiss Demba Cisse picked up a slight groin injury in the 2-2 draw with Wolves. The forward was subbed off just after the hour mark with the problem and has since pulled out of Senegal’s game against South Africa, having been assessed by the club’s medical staff ahead of Sunday’s derby with Sunderland.

Didier Drogba is out of Ivory Coast’s friendly with Guinea. The Chelsea forward picked up a knee problem in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bolton and is now undergoing treatment, with the Blues medical department monitoring his progress ahead of the trip to West Brom.

Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out of the Gary Speed Memorial match tomorrow evening. The Arsenal man was due to skipper Wales against Costa Rica but has failed to recover from an ankle injury picked up in the FA Cup defeat at Sunderland earlier this month.

Stephen Kelly has pulled out of the Republic of Ireland squad with a thigh problem. The right-back played the entire match in Fulham’s win at QPR on Saturday and has now established himself as an integral part of Martin Jol’s back-four, starting the last nine game for the Cottagers.

Phil Bardsley may miss out for Sunderland this weekend. The full-back has withdrawn from the Scotland squad due to a calf problem, with reports suggesting he may have torn the muscle. Bardsley is set for scans ahead of his side’s trip to Newcastle- his omission could perhaps see John O’Shea move from the centre to right-back, with Matt Kilgallon coming into the heart of defence.

Glen Johnson has, this afternoon, become the fifth player to pull out of the England squad to face Holland. The right-back is said to have trained this morning but then reported an unspecified “minor problem“ and will head back to Anfield to be assessed.

Daniel Agger has ruled himself out of contention for Denmark’s game against Russia tomorrow. The centre-half is feared to have sustained a broken rib in the Carling Cup win over Cardiff and, although there has been no official confirmation of a definite absence, his withdrawal will give his Fantasy owners cause for concern, particularly with Liverpool’s double gameweek just around the corner.

Alan Hutton is making his way back to Aston Villa after pulling out of the Scotland squad to face Slovenia. The right-back is said to have suffered pain in the top of his hamstring and, after being assessed by the Scotland doctors, has been sent back to the midlands for further examination.

Elsewhere, a handful of players face extended travel periods this midweek. Javier Hernandez turns out for Mexico at 1am Thursday in a home clash against Colombia. With United not playing until Sunday, though, his Fantasy owners will be hopeful the forward will have enough recovery time to feature in the trip to White Hart Lane.

Victor Moses and Peter Odemwingie feature for Nigeria, as the Super Eagles travel to Rwanda in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday. Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi plays for Oman in a crucial World Cup qualifier against Thailand at 9.30am Wednesday and should have enough in the tank to be ready for Saturday’s game with Swansea.

Bolton’s on-loan star Ryo Miyaichi is set for his Japan debut against Uzbekistan at 10.30 tomorrow morning. Mark Schwarzer faces a home game for Australia against Saudi Arabia- this kicks off at 09.30 tomorrow morning and, with Fulham not playing till Sunday, their keeper looks to have plenty recovery time ahead of the home game with Wolves.

Finally, a little domestic news. Alex McLeish has talked up the prospects of Andreas Weimann after the youngster produced a series of outstanding displays in the Villa reserves. Weimann has grabbed two hat tricks in his last three games, with McLeish describing him as “one of the most natural finishers I have seen for quite some time.”

With Darren Bent likely to be ruled out for the season after rupturing ankle ligaments in the weekend draw at Wigan, Robbie Keane back in the US after his loan deal finished and Gabby Agbonlahor having only scored once since Gameweek 7, McLeish is in dire need of a goalscorer. Weimann –priced at a mere 5.0- may be on course for a first-team start ahead of a run of games that reads (bla, FUL, BOL) over the next three gameweeks.

Arsene Wenger’s post-match comments on Theo Walcott after the 5-2 win over Spurs were revealing. Admitting he had considered subbing off the winger after a section of the crowd began to criticise Walcott’s performance, Wenger explained he kept faith, as he feels that the winger’s style of play is unique amongst the Arsenal squad:

I felt that he has the qualities that, considering the rest of the team, are highly needed. He is a player who can be straight and go behind the defenders – nobody else is like that. He is a very direct player, he can sometimes miss a first touch but considering the balance of the team I thought it was important to keep him in the side.

Wenger’s line of thinking, in spite of the calls for Walcott’s exclusion, suggests he will not bow to pressure and is likely to lead to reduced game time for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. With Gervinho still being eased back into action after his African Cup of Nations exertions, Yossi Benayoun was given the nod ahead of the youngster on the left and with Walcott vindicating Wenger’s decision with a double against their north London rivals, Oxlade Chamberlain’s 5.4% owners may be set for a testing time ahead.

Reports suggest Tom Cleverley may return to action next week for Man United. The midfielder limped out of the Europa League loss to Ajax on Thursday with an ankle problem but scans have revealed there is no serious problem, meaning Cleverley could come back against Atletico Bilbao in the next round of European action.

Carlos Tevez returned to action for Man City this afternoon, as the Argentine steps up his fitness after months on the sidelines. Tevez started for City’s reserves in the 3-1 defeat by Preston but failed to make any impact before being subbed off at half time.

Liverpool fixtures till the end of the season

sun/EVE, qpr, WIG, new, AVL, bla, FUL, WBA, nor, CHE, swa

I wouldn't write off bringing in a couple of Liverpool players for the DGW. In fact I'd say two players may well be necessary to fully take advantage of the DGW and the good run of fixtures

Looking at the fixtures, I would agree that Liverpool has the CHANCE to get a good run.

I am not sure "necessary" is the word I would use. 2 players might provide better odds for getting an above average score, is more like how I see it

"I wouldn’t write off bringing in a couple of Liverpool"
            "may well be necessary"

I don't think I was too hard line really. I basically said it 'could' be the way to go, and Liverpool 'might' deliver on the good run of fixtures.

    Lads! My team for GW27:

    Krul
    Caulker Komp Senderos
    Sess Demp Bale Silva
    RVP Kun Ba
Subs - Mig McC Simpson Evans
    2 FT Bank 0.3

Any transfers/sub changes you would recommend this week? I'm wary of removing any Derby players. Get rid of Krul for Schwarzer? (my one week punt) 😛

I have a WC available too, which I'm really skeptical of using too early in gw28.

HELP! These dilemmas are doing my head in. 😕

i think its time to drop one of sess or mcclean, you cant play either most weeks anyway. May i suggest dropping one of them for Miyaichi (surprising given your gravatar's ethnicity that you've overlooked Ryonaldo!), and stashing Miyaichi, while playing whichever sunderland player you keep.

definitely siggy out of the two. not only is he on set pieces, he's damn good at them. but if you can keep that WC in hand, then i would settle for someone cheaper if it meant having the proper funds to get in the pool/utd players you want next week.

Firstly I'm not convinced about Ryonaldo. Clearly you have taken a strong liking to that ethnicity 😉 Secondly, even if I bring in Ryo I won't play him over Sess/McC, which makes it pointless if I WC next gw.

Guess it boils down to the question, should I WC in gw28? Or hope for a tot/city/che DGW coming together some GW in the future?

        If I don't WC, I'm definitely doing:
Kun > Roo & Komp > Skrtel/Enrique in gw28. Just clueless what to do this gw. 😕

i think a cheap 5th mid is the place on your team where you bet on potential instead of waiting to be convinced. once everyone is convinced of a player, everyone brings in the player lowering the effectiveness of bringing in that player. its also frequent to have that player discontinue his run of good hauls by the time you are convinced. so you are basically paying for points you didnt get. i know my track record lately wont back up my claim, but ive had success bringing players like a miyaichi earlier than everyone else. He is instantly Bolton's best threat and i think they will score goals in these upcoming fixtures. My god as much as victor moses has been praised at times on here for his potential.....

With no LIV/EVE and only 1 MUN player are you not tempted to WC in GW28? Looking more and more like there won't be any more GWs (except perhaps MCY vs CHE), and LIV have great fixtures from GW28 onwards..

As for this week I'd be tempted to do Senderos -> Taiwo, mainly cause Senderos appears to have lost his spot to A Hughes?...

Well....I'll have Rooney, Evans & 1 Liv defender by gw28. Would that be considered enough?

Tottenham vs Stoke should be a DGW in the future (if Tot win their FA game), so will MCI vs CHE (if Che beat Brum). Why? Cos they're required to give a 2/3-week notice before they rearrange it.

Senderos was recovering from a knock. Difficult to assume he's lost his spot to Hughes yet and Simpson will come in if he doesn't start.

Looks like the consensus is not to WC in gw28 and to get Siggy for Sess.

      How do these transfers look?

      gw27: Sess > Siggy

Can you afford to get them back if required?

ready to hear about more fifa 12 battles between ENR and Udit. Finally got my online gaming set up again and am getting used to fifa 12 with the defensive changes. Finally won a PL game proper.

    City 3-2 Norwich

went up 1-0, went down 1-2, then came back level, and a 90th minute winner from Balotelli.

now i just need to get good enough to beat a club like arsenal with a club like Scunthorpe.

I honestly see no one I would want from either Liverpool or Everton, except a Liverpool defender, which one do you think is more important for GW 28? A liverpool defender or Nani?

Nope, I was thinking of a Pool defender from GW 30 onwards, may bring my plan forward a few gW's but I'm thinking I stick with my original plan -
                  in GW 28 - Sess->Nani
                  Aguero->Rooney
                  Richards->Evans
Walters->Miyaichi for a 8 point hit, what do you and ryan make of it?

Evans should be in your team now.

Nani and Rooney might be a reasonable shout although I'd monitor Nani for now.

                    Miyawho? Never heard of him.

Hmm, having read the above on El Nino's WC considerations, do you think I'm best holding on to my WC in the hope that MCY, CHE, TOT, STO, ARS and EVE get DGWs for the games potentially postponed for GW29, or should I just play the WC in GW28? The fact I currently have no LIV, EVE or MUN players is swaying me towards pulling the trigger in GW28....team linked - any comments appreciated. Thanks!

Tot-Sto, Mcy-Che will mostly have DGWs if Che & Tot win their FA games.

Eve-Ars should be rescheduled midweek gw29. But you'd think with Arsenal out of Europe, there's a decent chance it could be pushed back later.

Well, you're surely get to know whether these goonks will have DGW's or not by around Tuesday-Wednesday next week, so adapt accordingly, burn that bridge when you get to it. If they don't have DGW's then it's a no brainer, if they do it'll be 50-50 depending upon who has the DGW and against whom, and btw don't get EVE players in with your WC whenever you WC.

True that. Only minor issue is what to do with my freebie this week - either

        a) save it and see what happens next Tues/Wed in respect of the DGWs, or
        b) take a one week punt on someone this week

Obviously if I do a) and then decide to WC next week I've lost out on a free transfer. Similarly if I do b) and then decide not to WC next week I'll only have 1 freebie in GW28.

So, a) or b) this week, and if b), who?

        Schwarzer
        Kompany, Raylor, Rangel
        Silva, Dempsey, Mata, Siggy
        RVP, Aguero, Ba

        Sorenson, Moses, Simpson, Caulker

I would do b but I see your point, not many 1 week punt options this week, only 1 I see is to bring in someone for rvp, but you'll lose a lot of value plus you'll be forced to get him back next week

Yeah, I kind of want to take a 1 week punt, but Schwarzer, Kompany, Raylor, Silva, Dempsey, Aguero and Ba are going nowhere this week with their fixtures. That only leaves RVP (would lose too much on him, plus he's RVP, so he's out), Rangel, Siggy or Mata.

Can't see any improvements out there for those 3 this week. It's that bad I'm looking at Sorenson -> Mignolet just in case Schwarzer gets rested after his International midweek!! 🙂

no DGW nonsense. no giving your chosen player the armband just to get double points to win!! since i am letting you play the field, i feel i should be afforded some insurance. If miyaichi missed out due to injury, not being dropped, then the bet ends on his last game played. sound fair?

My chosen player is....wait for it.....Sir Anthony Neil James Pilkington priced at 5.2 mil! Gw28-32 it is.

to be fair, your punishment has only lasted through one gw! and you have to admit, its been a rousing success. (for some, an a-rousing success)

I accept Miyaichi vs Pilkington gw28-32.

Morning folks and congratulations Fuzzy on your new job!

I've read through the posts on this page and it doesnt look as though anyone is taking a punt on Suarez for the DGW!!

I'm saving this weeks transfer and was originally going to do Walters and Aguero out for Rooney and Andrews/M Davies or similar. However, I now think it's worth a FT to do Aguero to Suarez for GW 28 and then swap him to Rooney for GW29. Already got Enrique so that will be enough DGW cover for me I think.

Obviously there must be major flaws in this thinking as no-one else is suggesting it ??

Morning Catty, got to run now, so will TTYL, Suarez is a big no for me, a look at his history suffices, plus, he's had 42 shots off target from a total of 72, Crazy.

im staying away from suarez. its not a terrible gamble though if you want to stray from convention. I worry he might not start both. If that were to happen, then it goes back to what it was before the scheduled dgw, a move you would never consider.

I have it in mind but can't quite sell myself on it. Two tough games for a player I would not bring in other than for a DGW. He could pop though and that's the lure. My original plan had been to bring in Rooney but may go in another direction with the money too.

      Thanks for all the responses.

I understand he's not likely to get explosive points as he wastes more chances than not, but he's still got 6 goals, 3 assists and 79 points despite missing 8 games, and with Liverpool presumably in a high I think he could get a decent score. I realise also that Rooney, RVP or any other could get a mega score, but I reckon it's worth a punt.

I havent got a wildcard left, but there again I'm pretty happy with my team and have planned some moves I can do with my FT's so I'm not planning any radical changes.

Cheers, guys. I'll see how this week goes first anyway.

im jealous. have lindy/sorensen as well and could only afford 4.6 for a keeper w/o a hit. went al-habsi.

next week im doing your next two moves for a 4 point hit, i think it will be worth bringing in rooney if considered fit, and possibly giving him the armband.

i have around 2.5 in bank so can afford a decent keeper. As long as Schwarzer is back in time its ok. I like his fixtures and fulham are more solid now.

Not sure to get rid of Sorenson or Lindy in the hope that one will play again

not so sure about this Liverpool dgw - people rushing to draft in Gerrard and the like are probably going to get burned. A defender maybe, or even Howard for the long run, but that'll be about it for me I think.

im not fussing with my forwards for the likes of suarez or carroll.

none of pools mids have been of any consistent value all season.

my defense, on the other hand, is a bit of a mess now, and i need to raise cash to bring in rooney or nani, so a pool defender makes sense.

if you have to then i'd say Suarez because he should get more time than Gerrard. Gerrard now shares set pieces too and Suarez is due a few goals.

However, it's still a punt and i'd only look at defensive options

Nani is explosive though and depsite the criticism he is still outscoring Valencia point per game. He's probably not worth the extra 2.0m though so perhaps you're right...

Bet # 3: Team Fuzzy vs Team ENR from gw28-32, then.

Fuzzy goes with Ryonaldo, ENR goes with the Pilkonaut!

Whosever wins the bet, is released from the punishment of the earlier bet, if any. Apart from the release clause, ENR provides Czarbles with a lewd and chic Torres-related username, which he has to implement until the following bet. The punishment stays until the results of Bet # 4 or until the winner provides a release clause!

Fuzzy, what are your conditions if you win then? Another pair of Juggernauts?
