Scuppered by Roberto Mancini’s rotational policy, last week’s Flutter didn’t quite go as planned. Our £20 stake on a Man City white wash was returned to the Scout wallet after both Sergio Aguero and David Silva were left twiddling on the bench. But as Paddy have posted a couple of special doubles amongst their Cheltenham frenzy, we’re letting our money ride straight into this week’s bets…

Two teams in red take our focus this week as Liverpool travel to Sunderland for part one of their double Gameweek and Man United host West Brom in a potential title banana skin encounter. Paddy have priced up anytime goalscorer, win and clean-sheet bets, featuring Wayne Rooney and Luiz Suarez.

Although Rooney has been amongst the goals of late, and the 15/8 is comparatively better value, West Brom are riding high of the back of three solid wins. Goal bonanza’s against Wolves and Sunderland, and a stern 1-0 against Chelsea suggest that Roy Hodgson’s side will put up a fight – that shifts Rooney’s bet out of our crosshairs and has us looking to Suarez and Liverpool instead.

Sunderland’s resurgence under Martin O’Neil suffered a major blow via a 4-0 drubbing to the Baggies, while the dismissal of Stephane Sessegnon and Lee Cattermole in the Tyne-Wear derby stalemate last weekend will surely be felt when Liverpool come knocking. Although Suarez has struggled to fire, he showed enough against Arsenal to suggest he’ll trouble the Black Cats. Paddy are offering 7/2 on a Suarez anytime goal with Liverpool winning with a clean sheet – that’s enough to tempt us and our double stake of £20 is placed.

Paddy’s other Scout specials top and tail the Gameweek, with a Ryo Miyachi special in the weekend’s opening game at the Reebok and an Arsenal goalscorer double in Monday night’s game.

Robin Van Perise and Theo Walcott may well be disappointed at their failure to progress in the Champions league, but they’re sure to be happy about the momentum built on the domestic front. Tenacious wins against Spurs and Liverpool lead them into this week’s encounter with Newcastle – a real test of their staying power. The Newcastle back four is expected to be under pressure and Van Persie and Walcott both to score is rocking a reasonable 100/30 at Paddy.

Ryo Miyachi has only featured in three Bolton games after being loaned from the Gunners, and unfortunately for him, they’ve all been defeats. Not a great introduction to the Premier League for the 19-year-old but with struggling QPR at the Reebok on Saturday, his prospects look set to improve. With a 4.9 FPL price tag and a mention in the Scout Picks this week, Miyachi might well emerge as an end of season budget bandwagon with legs. For those of you skeptical of the short prices offered in the above specials, Paddy are offering an interest friendly 11/2 on a Miyachi goal and a Bolton win at home to the R’s.

Rooney's not in my team and I suspect he'll do well this week. Which of these bets look good?

    A) Rooney to score anytime and United to keep CS - 2.87
    B) Rooney to score first - 3.5
    C) Rooney to score anytime - 1.44
    D) Rooney to score first, bet refunded if he scores anytime - 2.0
    E) Rooney to score twice or more - 3.1

Well, potential is one thing, playing well is another, and actually getting FPL points on the board yet another. I've watched him a few times for Liverpool this season and he has not produced end product, plus I thought he was awful in the Carling Cup final and Kenny presumably didn't disagree, subbing him off early in the second half for Bellamy.

I don't think Charlie Adam is a brilliant player but all I'd say is one guy has 1 goal and 2 assists and the other has 2 goals and 11 assists. Heavily gambling to go for the former.

Yes, but Dalglish is a tit. Henderson operates on the left, and is one of the youngest there, but was played on the right. Despite that, he was not even the fifth worst Liverpool player on the day, and had a good go anyway. I have watched him for three years, and in my opinion, he is the only decent player brought in by Dalglish.

Well he's miles more intelligent than Downing and Carroll LMAO!! I liked Henderson at Sunderland, I thought he showed a good football brain and showed some promise with his distribution. Thanks to how the team is doing, everyone at Liverpool (apart from the defenders) looks equally bad... maybe in a different set-up Henderson would thrive, heck, maybe he should have gone to Arsenal 😉 but I do know in this set-up I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole...

Is it worth taking a hit on a defender?

I have Enrique so not too bothered about Skrtel but at the moment my only other defenders are Simpson away at Arsenal and Shotton away at Chelsea. Normally they'd be parked firmly on the bench as they are almost certainly 1 pointers. However if that is the case the replacement needs to score at least 5pts to make it worthwhile.

I'm not sure I can trust Evans to get a clean sheet vs WBA and all my rivals already have him so he won't help me really. The only benefit is man united's good run of fixtures so he'd be in for the long term.

If its worthwhile do I swap Kompany or Kelly? Already have getting on for £2mill in the bank so not much need for scrimping. Any thoughts?

If have nothing else to spend money on, think about Kelly to Riise within same squad. Riise less injured and certainly seems to be locked in and Fulham in good shape right now. Anything pricier (Lescott, Evra) would mean you have to swap out Kompany.

That's certainly unexpected advice. I'm not sure I'd like to spend that much on a fulham defender but thanks for the thoughts. Good luck for the week.

Yeah, it's more than I would spend, probably, but it was based on you having money sitting around doing nothing and on fact that you already have one fulham defender and could afford to have a different one who isn't hurt. They are in pretty decent form right now and have good run coming (apart from United).

To be honest it's likely to pay off this week if you get Skrtel.

You could then do Enrique/Skrtel > Jones next week.

If you're planning on getting Kompany back then I'd forget it as you will have to waste a free transfer getting him back in and perhaps take another hit somewhere else if you want to make any changes to your attack.

I'm in the same situation - BAE, Skrtel, Simpson (Kelly, Kompany) this week. Considering the hit Kompany > Enrique. I'm no worried about making my points back but I'm worried that the payoff won't be big enough to justify (possibly) having to use a free transfer to get Kompany back.

That concern, and my desire to have Kompany down the stretch, is why I'm sitting tight with Kompany and Kelly on my bench, praying for no surprises to lineups, and going with backline of Skrtel, JoseEnrique, Shawcross

That's the conundrum. If I double up on Liverpool defenders it's more likely I'll make the points up this week but I don't want 2 after that do I'll be using another transfer.

If I go for Evans I'm happy keeping him for the rest of the season most likely but is it worth a hit if I'm not sure that he'll get a clean sheet today.

I've shipped Kompany out before and gone on to regret it. Decisions decisions. Leaning towards doing nothing at the moment. Possibly Kelly to Evans.

So confused, I've read loads of these over the last couple of days!

          Final advice:

Do nothing for the boring yet safe bet.

Kompany > Skrtel for a hit, probably get your outlay back and only need a Skrtel goal, assist or cleanie to make a profit. Then do Skrtel/Enrique > Evans in the next couple of weeks. This option works especially well if you were considering doing Kompany > Evans anyway and weren't sure about the WBA fixture this week.

        Hang on...

        1) I meant Evans
        2) I didn't realise you already have Evans!

        I'd say no hit.

If I had Evans I wouldn't be in this pickle.

Almost talked myself into Kelly to Evans for -4. Long term thing.

Ha ha I'm not at that stage yet.

Still considering Kompany > Enrique and then Enrique/Skrtel > Evans/Kompany in the next 2 weeks depending on form, fitness & rotation risk.

What do you think? Team linked (did Shawx > Skrtel on Monday!)

So here's my last questions for week:

    1. Pienaar (@Liv) or Siggy (City) as my 4th mid?

    2. Vice-Captain Ba (@Ars), Pog (@Villa), Dempsey (@Villa), Silva (@Swan), Bale (@Eve) or either Skrtel or JoseEnrique (DGW)

Captain is RVP, other subs beyond Pienaar or Siggy are Kompany/Kelly

he's got as much chance of scoring as he's had so far this season and that's returned just 6. At some point he may "turn the corner", depends if you're willing to take a punt and hope it happens soon.

Should I take a 4 pt hit and ship Kompany out for Skrtel?

I’ve got the following back 4 at the moment:

    Kompany, Enrique, Evans, Simpson, Kelly.

I’ve also got Valencia injured on the bench (keeping him for the run in), which means that I have 3 'red flagged' players on the bench at the moment...

This has been discussed to death over the last couple of days!

General consensus: do it! Probable scenario, Skrtel will match Simpson's points and cover the 4 points loss. If you're lucky, he'll score/get a cleanie to make a bit of a gain.

My opinion: Do it if you had planned to lose Kompany anyway. If you planned on keeping him and there are other attacking transfers you plan to make, don't do it as you will have to waste another transfer to get Kompany back in.
