Gameweek 28 concludes tonight with the hotly-anticipated Merseyside Derby. Bragging rights are up for grabs in Liverpool, and for us fantasy managers so are double gameweek points. The Dugout Discussion opens for the fourth day on-the-bounce, as team news from Anfield emerges…

Liverpool XI: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Carragher, Jose Enrique, Henderson, Gerrard, Spearing, Downing, Carroll, Suarez.

Everton XI: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Rodwell, Fellaini, Pienaar, Stracqualursi, Anichebe.

Kenny Dalglish names an attacking line-up, desperate to put an end to his prolonged set of horrendous results. Andy Carroll partners Luis Suarez, and Steven Gerrard returns to the starting eleven.

Celebrating 10 years of continuous employment this week, David Moyes could see his side leap-frog their city rivals with a win. It’s surprising then that, despite his winner against Spurs, Nikica Jelavic is dropped to the bench along with John Heitinga. In their place, Denis Stracqualursi and Phil Jagielka come in.

Follow the game as it unfolds in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

Well, I was wrong about Suarez. Well done Trigger, Jinswick, Jafa, and everyone else who got him.

I honestly just having nothing to say on it. I was stone cold wrong, I guess. I don't want him....like, at all. But I was convinced he would do nothing. For 135 of 180 minutes, he did just that.

I friggin hate it, but well done, all.

yeah, I got totally lucky with Caulker. !00% Won me my UCL tie.

Ya know, I had to take two hits this week for team maintenance, and I figured I would just take this week on the chin, but I ended up with a very decent score and a very manageable team going forward without losing ground in the L5 of UCL whatsoever.

When a very bad week ends up mediocre, its technically a good week.

I, for one, will give him a few weeks to try to grab a few goals but I certainly won't hesitate to hook him if he falters...

Meh, as good as he did I can't say I regret it. Everton is usually very stingy, and I knew they wouldnt score against sunderland. Liverpool's offense is still terrible.

I will always favor Ba to score aganst a terrible Arsenal defense over Suarez against two (usually) tough defenses.

I wouldnt feel too bad about being wrong on that one. He's done sod all all season and now people are stuck with him in their team and he'll probably continue to score mainly 2pters for the rest of the season.

I thought about him too but it was a choice between him or Rooney for this GW just passed. Made the right choice in the end

The probable result was 15 or 16 points (as capt) based on his season average scores

Sorry for the slip: I was just trying to point out how reliable both Everton and Sunderland defenses have been. yes, his average was high, but his probable points surely decreases because he was playing top defenses.

don't get me wrong, I well played, but 3/4 of the way through the gameweek he didn't look like he would get anything.

I'm considering selling him. Had him since GW1 but his baron spell is becoming a big problem for me. Man Utd are in good form and Nani, Young or Toni V are looking very tempting as his replacement.

Also wondering whether to stick with Ba or not. Havent seen a Newcastle game in weeks though so I'm not even sure how he's been playing which always helps with these decisions

I'm genuinely thinking of ditching Silva and Ba for Valencia and Rooney.

I see around 50% of City and Toon games and neither looks a great FPL prospect at the minute. Both have been affected by personnel changes round them too.

I've stopped checking price rises/drops, unless I don't have money in the bank to do my preferred transfer. At this point in the game, value isn't too impt. whereas you should ideally wait till the deadline to make your transfer.

I know and I follow the principle of "ignore price changes unless they stop you making the transfer you want". Unfortunately it's getting very close to that... another drop and I think I'll be on 0.0 in bank.

What are peoples ffeelings on Suarez?

I quite like him , (as a player) Picked him at start of season and held him after most had dropped.
Unlike many here i will probably stay with him.

Thought he was magnificent today , not much diving or complaining , just did a great job. We tend to critisise hom because he hasnt got many fantasy points , but you look at him today , he was totally unselfish , creating so much , and working very hard , he great player i think.

Im not going to let his "troubles" cloud my judgement of hom as a player . Its not his fault he hasnt scored many fantasy point s, its the teams , all to often he has been lefft with no support and nobody with a decent footballing brain to play with. Now Gerrard is back that should change

He's always a handful whenever he plays, but even tonight he squandered a few decent opportunities. I held onto him until about GW15 and lost patience. But if I had bought him last week i'd at least keep him until after Wigan at home.

Honestly, I think he was a horrible fantasy prospect way before the racist stuff.

I also think this Gerrard thing is a flash in the pan. Gerrard is not going to be this good consistently, imo. I still don't see much for liverpool going forward. You're right that he hasn't had much support, but I'm just not convinced. I just think I there are way better third striker options: most of them cheaper.

He still tried a SHOCKING dive and shoulda gotten booked for it. Yeah he's good with the ball at his feet but not so good at scoring from his many, many chances. If there was a clear standout replacement for him I'm sure many would cut him but at it stands I'll keep him. Ade, Ba, Odem etc arn't in super great form either and Pog isn't an option for me.

The only reason to believe that suarez "might" come into form is the Gerrard factor.

Looking ahead to the weekend the captaincy is a b!tch. RVP or Rooney.

Rooney: Has a tough game in Bilbao on Thursday. With Hernandez, Wellbeck and even Berbatov available as well as Nani and Young there's a possibility of Rooney being rested v hopeless Wolves. If I knew for sure he'd start i'd captain him no question given his form.

RVP: Finally gets a rest this weekend. Also in a form team though Everton looked solid against Spurs. Then again, I could see the width of Ox and Walcott tearing them up and RVP scoring 1 or 2. Added to that, between FA Cup and league it'll be Everton's 4th match in just 11 days, up against a rested form team. Not to mention how utterly hopeless they looked against Liverpool tonight.

Could be one to decide on saturday morning 😉

If in doubt go with RVP. It's a mantra that always works 😉

But if it helps (to confuse you a little more) then there is no way that SAF will rest Rooney for the league campaign. As long as he's not injured he will 100% play against Wolves

Word of caution to those looking at Odem:

His 5 goals came from 8 shots on target over the past 7 weeks. Shows his scoring rate is not sustainable.
He plays POO as a winger, classified as a striker in FPL.

Definitely could be considered, but not over Ba/Balo. 🙂

So the big question is who is the best Man Utd MFer to invest in right now with money not a concern.

My thoughts (as a Utd fan who watches every game) are that Young is a terribly frustrating player. He shoots when he should pass and passes when he should shoot. Granted he's scored some points of late but I feel he is 3rd choice and his run of points will come to an end as quickly as they came.

Nani is the man whom, should he find his form after injury will be the monster MFer that we all should own. He is a very direct and dangerous player who shares in set-pieces and is always shooting and playing dangerous balls into the box.

ToniV is Mr consistency. Fergie is a big fan (due to his dilligent DF work he puts in) so I suspect he'll be 1st choice once his injury worries are behind him. He is by far the best crosser in our team and works excellently with an on-form Rooney. Owning those two players could well give you a near monopoly on Utds attacking points.

So all things considered I'd go for (a fit) Toni V for price and certainty, but if like me your chasing then a gamble on Nani and his potential explosive returns would be the better option.

    Whats other peoples opinions?

Do you think that SAF will rotate Nani? Or is he a nailed on starter when all 3 are fit. Will Young and Tony V share the minutes ?

I am really temped to go Silva > Nani in GW31 but i am really temped with nani rotation. Is there a worry here?

I think Young is the biggest worry for rotation. His recent form will soon dip and he'll be the first on the chopping block.

Like I said in my comment ToniV tracks back and helps out the RB as well as putting dangerous crosses into the box all day long for Rooney and co.

So I can see Nani and Young sharing minutes and ToniV playing the majority of games. This being said I'll still most likely be gambling on Nani.

For this coming GW Thursdays game will probably tell you all you need to know about who'll play this weekend

We share many views on the "big" United midfielders. Another testament to this site.

What is your view on the "smaller" options? Especially Scholes and Cleverley maybe.

Good question actually. Scholes is in good form right now and seems to have found his scoring touch again somehow. We need to give Cleverly time and see how he comes along.

But to be honest with the depth in quality for mid-priced MFers I'd stay away from both of em to be honest. They'll mostly score 2/3pters whereas people like Siggy are always capable of putting in double-figure GWs

Young seems to be Fergie's darling as far as I can see. Reckon he's most nailed on when all are fit.

Don't forget the only time this season all 3 were fully fit for more than a couple of weeks, Valencia had a lot of bench time.

Also with a large goal difference to catch and many weak teams to come, I can see him being more gung-ho by playing Young and Nani more often, perhaps with Valencia seeing some time at RB.

Nani is far too inconsistent for my liking, would rather see some semblance of form first. Meanwhile Young seems to be very much on form, been far less frustrating to watch since he's returned from injury than he did earlier in the season.

So for me Valencia may be the most consistent, Young and Nani both have more explosive potential, and for me Young is the more nailed on of the two and the one showing good form going into some easy games.
