Premier League champions Manchester United close out Gameweek 30 at home to Fulham. With a seemingly routine opportunity to open a three-point gap over city rivals, the Dugout Discussion opens to witness the potential fantasy points feast.

The team news for the clash at Old Trafford is in. Here is how the two sides line-up…

Man Utd XI: De Gea, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Rafael, Carrick, Giggs, Valencia, Rooney, Young, Welbeck.

Fulham XI: Schwarzer, Kelly, JA Riise, Hangeland, Hughes, Diarra, Dempsey, Pogrebnyak, Duff, Frei, Dembele.

Sir Alex makes two changes from the eleven that battered Wolves last week, with Ryan Giggs and Ashley Young replacing Paul Scholes and Javier Hernandez respectively.

Three changes for the visitors with Aaron Hughes, Kerim Frei and Damian Duff coming in for Philippe Senderos, Andrew Johnson and Bryan Ruiz.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and can be accessed right here.

If I had any guts, I'd do Suarez to Crouch for next 4 GW and then Crouch to Adebayor for next 4 GW.
Nex week bring in Baines for 3 GW then out to Caulker (savin FT from previous).

I feel B. Enrique still has some ok fixtures. D I dont think so as don't think Yaya is worth it. C is 2 much. Ah wait you have 2 pool defenders. In that case I think try a new plan and get out a pool defender for Vermaelen, BAE

Got to add my thumbs up there. Doubled-up pool defence is soo last year... while Verm and BAE are top-three attacking defenders and must-haves IMO. 2FT well spent.

CANADIAN FOOTBALL, lost on last page.

Enrique > Verm seems a good shout. Should i even consider baines over verm? or not worth it.

Don't really fancy everton but baines is on fks pks and corners. But then again verm has more attacking potential off set pieces and does get forward alot.

The fact that Arsenal score a lot more goals than everton should also put Verm in favor. Add that to the fact he's 1m cheaper

          GW31 Enrique > Verm
          GW32 Nothing
          GW33 Demps > Walcott, Defender > Kaboul

from gw33 on arsenal have: wol WIG CHE sto NOR wba, i see them keeping at least 4 CS in those games. So really want verm and his attacking potential 🙂

But if planning on rotating onward, having Pog and Demps against Norwich at home doesn't sound like bad idea. Norwich defense always seems to concede and Fulham is pretty successful scoring at home.

Differentials that might be worth the risk

    Cahill
    B Arfa
    Belotelli
    Gibbs

If your chasing a lead as I am (about 60 odd) then I think its time to take an educated punt on a player considered at least 75% nailed on for a sporting price. Thoughts?

Precisely why they are a good educated risk. They seem to be nailed on yet so many managers fear rotation they won't be inclined to take the risk making these guys worthwhile punts and great differentials.

VDV, Oxlade, Hernandez, Brunt could be decent differentials.

I'm in a tricky position, a lot of money riding in my minileague. I'm way out in front of the main money rival and only 2 points behind the other so I pretty much have to forget about overall position at this stage and play it safe. Then once I have the lead I wildcard 😀

Yup i agree. I thought Hernandez had a great opportunity v Fulham after Wellbeck's nightmare but he wasn't much better when he came on. VDV could easily finish strongly he's the only one i'd strongly consider for making up 60 points. I'm half tempted by Brunt myself but WBA are shocking at home, their easy upcoming fixtures are at home and he's difficult to predict when he'll get a haul.

VdV could be a good differential.

Also not having rooney is going to kill you the rest of the season. United need him to perform to win the title, he will end off strong with an average of a goal a game, if not more.

you will just lose ground not having the pig imo so I would look for differentials elsewhere.. Downgrade one of those defenders.. Maybe skittle and upgrade suarez to rooney

Ben Arfa might also let you pick up a few points if you were looking for a midfielder swap. Looks like he might have finally convinced Pardew that he deserves a spot.

    Good morning DeZo's

Anyone seen Agueroliciouso around here? I might be in a position to break our pact with him in the last league game of the CL. My team is in a bad state and needs me to trigger WC, despite our earlier condition of not to use the WC against each other.

    What do I do? 😕

Don't know man. I've been waiting for any news on that but I think mid-week reschedule is highly possible (if this season's past games are anything to go by).

My team's a mess at the moment with Newcastle defs, Skrtel, Ba & Senderos needing the sack.

ok folks some thoughts on tonight’s game. Firslty general football thoughts.

United seem to have found a dictionary that does not contain the word shoot. Barring Young (and one from Tony) no one seemed to want to try and score. Everytime a player in red got towards the box they always looked to play another pass almost like they were either trying to walk the ball into the net, or that they expected a big hole to open up and the ball would just role through it into the goal.

This in turn saw Fulham grow into the game as they sensed United were there for teh taking, and but for a supreme display by the once much-maligned Jonny Evans, they may well have got something. They should have won a late penalty. That being said if the ref (I have no idea who it was) felt it wasn’t why did he not book Murphy (knock yourselves out) for diving?

Giggs had maybe the worst game I have seem from him in a while. He gave the ball away more often than he found a man in red, he tried to beat several men as if was 1992 not 2012 and proceeded to lose the ball.

Ok folks, now on to FF thoughts based on some of our more talked about players

Jonny Evans – An absolutely superb display. In the past we have seen him harassed and bullied by big, tough players. Not so tonight, he dealt supremely with the threat of Pogrenbnyak, and also mopped up when Dempsey tried to surge forward, as well as his already touched upon excellent distribution.

Antonio Valencia – Had a quiet game by his recent standards. A few good runs and one big chance but on the whole a disappointing night. However, he was also let down badly by a lack of option to find inside the box.

Ashley Young. Much the same as his mate on the other wing. Young cut a frustrated figure for much of the night as he was often double and triple teamed, but received no support from his team-mates forcing him to try and play his way out, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. But for some superb saves from Schwarzer (why can’t you do this when I actually play you?) he may well have got a goal or two. An interesting note that may not have been spotted on tv. When United had a corner on the right, Young occupied a postion on the edge of the box, waiting for the ball to be cleared in order to pick up the rebounds. Am am still undecided over what to do with him, though I think i will be shipping him for reasons soon to be outlined.

Wayne Rooney – Other than his goal it was quiet night for the Pig. Withdrawn late-on for tactical reasons, he had dropped deeper and deeper as he tried to make something happen as United continued to concede possession . Scholes came on to try to bring order to chaos. But unless Cleverley retunrs soon, and United buy a new midfield prompter in the summer i see more of the same on the horizon aw the serivce is just not there.

Dannny Welbeck – A very poor game. His hold up and link-up play was below-par for me and this helped cause the Rooney problem mentioned above. It may be the effects of a longer than normal season catching with him, but Welbeck was off-key tonight, and is highly possible he may see more bench tome. He was clearly withdrawn due to the lack of any threat.

Javier Hernandez. Essentially forced to play up front of his own, a role he is not suited to. Hernandez cut a peripheral figure for most of the game, and only had one decent chance. However, given how poor Welbeck was tonight, and the fact that both Valencia and Young were often forced to retain possession for longer than they would have liked due to a lack of anyone to cross it to, coupled with United’s need for both victories and goals, we could see much more game time for Hernandez in the run-in

Pavel Pogrebyak - Offered very little once Evans came to terms with his height and power. He seemed to offer little else to suggest that he was little more than a flash in the plan

Clint Dempsey - Fulham's main threat even marooned on the right-wing. He showed a willingness to run at defenders, get into the box and break forward. He is worth keeping for the Norwich game for me.

Apologies for the long post, but I hope it was helpful.

I think that Fulham honestly played well together as a unit, and held united while playing 11 men behind the ball. I dont think that it was much of united did not want to shoot, but that fulham closed down quickly, not allowing any space. In my opinion, against a weaker defensive opposition such as blackburn next week, united will have their way, getting many more chances and possibly bagging a 2 or 3-1 win. Nice post btw.

We have very similar teams the only differentials are:

HIM: McAuley, Kelly, Young, Ferguson, Aguero
(he is planning on shifting Aguero for Suarez this week)

ME: Caulker, Kompany, Valencia, Siggy, Ba
(I am shifting Enrique for Verm this week)

Any suggestions on imporvements? team linked.

    Alreet deadzone

In my humble opinion, the toon trident (Cisse, Ba, Barfa) is good enough to challenge for the top 4 next season. What do yous reckon?

NB I'm not saying that we will finish top 4 next season. Our squad is currently way to weak in depth for that. Hopefully that will be rectified in the summer. All I am saying is that our front three COULD be that good.

Im not too sure Ba will be there next year, might get snagged by a bigger club(in the same boat as dempsey).

Also, I'm not too sure on Cisse, looks good atm, but in the long run i dont see him as a prolific scorer in the epl.

Arfa is on and off, but is a joy to watch.

Agree with you that they will have a great attack if all 3 stay, but to challenge for top 4 is not likely, top 7 i would say

Dave scored 37 goals in 65 games for Freiburg, one of the worst teams in the bundesliga. And has scored 5 goals in 6 in the premier, including two absolute crackers. Pardew came out before norwich as said that he is having real trouble settling, and can't understand a word of english. How come you think he won't be prolific in the premier?

Ba might go, but in my opinion, even if he wanted to go (which i'm not sure he would), any transfer would be very difficult (and expensive) due to insurance issues

Barfa has been a lot more on than off lately, and he is starting to put in more of a shift, make better decisions, and be less greedy.

I would actually rate it as the 5th best forward line in the premier (based on current players, not potential signings).

He just doesnt seem to me like someone who is a pure goalscorer(rooney, rvp, even ba). He is yet to prove himself, and most his goals were easy tap ins off of wonderful play rather than skill. Only time will tell..

i like the newcastle centre midfielders tiote and whatshisface

you look like a team with some umpf thats what I think you should be happy about. Plus a crazy big stadium and a bunch of geordy nutters. There is a chance to get 4th, but look what harry had to do. He had to have quality players on the bench as well. sandro defoe russian striker who is very underrated, defence gets king/dawson/kaboul/gallas. so you need a bit more to get top 4, but newcastle is close

Absolutely. Our squad is no where near top 4 quality. I think with the addition of a top quality right back, our first 11 would be good enough to CHALLENGE for the top 4, but we all know that it takes more than a good first 11 to be successful.

Was going to do santon > baines this week, but seeing as senderos got dropped last night (I heard he was poor against swansea), maybe he is more of a priority to get rid of.

Santon is still the long term answer at full back for us, he is just being taken out of the firing line for a while. Can the same be said for senderos? Or is it hughes spot to lose now?

Looks like my options this week have been wittled down to 2: Thoughts appreciated - thanks

    a) Surman & Suarez -> Bale & Pog (benching Siggy). Would get rid of Pog in GW33 so very short term, and it leaves a tricky bench decision next week, but Bale and Pog could score huge this week, or

    b) Shotton & Enrique -> Vermaelen & Kaboul (benching Skrtel/Siggy). Quite like having both from now to the end of the season and it removes doubling of LIV defenders and Shotton who looks out of favour. Major downside is no TOT attacking cover, in particular Bale.

    Bogdan
    JEvans, Skrtel, Shotton
    Dempsey, Walcott, Valencia, Siggy
    RVP, Rooney, Suarez

    Migs, Enrique, Surman, Caulker

Seems crazy to drop Walcott for a hit given his form and QPR's inability to defend. Also I'd lose a bit of value on Walcott doing that. I quite like the idea of b) with Dempsey making way for Bale in GW33 (and just hoping Bale stays quiet for 2 more weeks)

            another option :

            c) Migs & Skrtel/Enrique -> Friedel & Verm (kind of means playing Enrique over Bogdan which I prefer)...thoughts?

fulham have 6 strikers on the pitch sometimes, thats what scares me away from pog. Any of them can score - dempsey dembele ruiz are all looking for goals

Have to admit I'm swaying towards b) with something like Dempsey & Suarez -> Bale & Ade (if showing form by then) in GW33 to get some spuds attacking coverage for their awesome run in.

        Silva is soooo 2011...

        Kelly is great value though.

Should I sell Ba?? If i do i will have 10.6 in the bank. who is my best choice striker? i'm 100 pts off my leader. my leader has Suarez, RVP and Aguero. I have Roo, RVP and Ba.

I would sell Ba if I were you. He is still playing well, just not fantasy wise. You have to presume that your leader will get Rooney in this week or next. I would go for pog for two games, then switch to dave.

so I didn't realise this was reply. in relation to your post I would keep Ba for this week. I fancy Newcastle to win and would be a nice differential against your rival if Ba scores (he's on penalty kicks also). I just have a gut feeling he'll score, the trio of Ba, Ba and Barfa was great against West Brom and surely Demba will get amongst the goals again.
