James Morrison is set to be sidelined for a number of weeks after sustaining a knee injury against Newcastle on Sunday. Carlos Tevez could start for City on Saturday, while both Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero may return. Anders Lindegaard is uncertain when he will overcome an ankle injury, David Moyes is full of praise for Nikica Jelavic, and Victor Moses could be ready to return this weekend for Wigan, after positive scans on a facial injury sustained at Liverpool.

West Brom are hopeful that James Morrison will return before the end of the season after picking up a knee injury in Sunday’s home defeat by Newcastle. Scans have revealed the midfielder has damaged the medial ligament in his left knee and, while he is expected to be sidelined for weeks, Morrison has already started rehabilitation at the club’s training ground. The club’s head of medical services, Mark Gillett, revealed:

We’ve had positive news on James. We came to the conclusion on Sunday that it would more likely be a medial ligament issue, rather than a cruciate one, but you can’t be 100 per cent sure until the swelling has receded and you get the injury scanned. The outcome means that his rehab period will be more a case of weeks than months and, if all goes to plan, he should be able to play against this season.

Morrison’s absence vacates a role in the hole, with the likes of Chris Brunt perhaps prepared to step up, if Roy Hodgson decides to afford the playmaker a more attacking role in the Baggies midfield. Brunt has mainly filled in on the flanks since recovering from an ankle injury but, with Morrison now sidelined, Hodgson has a ready-made replacement available ahead of next weekend’s trip to Everton.

David De Gea’s Fantasy owners can relax a little after Anders Lindegaard admitted he is uncertain over a likely return date from an ankle problem. The latter had leapt ahead of the summer signing in the pecking order for United, having played five of their six fixtures between Gameweek 17-22 but is set to remain sidelined with the injury, picked up in training back in January. Lindegaard went on to reveal:

Of course I hope to have some involvement in the final part of the season. I want to contribute to winning the championship more than I have done so far. It has been a frustrating time, but that’s how life goes. I don’t know when I will be back, so I just have to keep smiling. It is the worst possible time for anyone to get injured.

Reports today suggest Carlos Tevez could be set to start for City against Sunderland this weekend. With both Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko failing to impress of late, it’s been alleged that City have centred their training plans with a start for Tevez in mind. If the Argentine can cement a starting role, he could prove to be the ultimate end of season differential as City look to chase down United at the top of the table, though a price tag of 11.7 is likely to deter investors, with question marks still against his first-team role right now.

Further reports suggest City could be set to welcome back Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany for the Black Cats’ visit on Saturday. Aguero is on course to recover from the foot problem that forced him out of the trip to Stoke, while Kompany has missed the last three with a calf injury; with City conceding in each of those matches, his absence has been sorely felt. Joleon Lescott may continue to miss out for Roberto Mancini’s men, with rest the only answer to his on-going groin problem.

David Moyes has backed Nikica Jelavic to grab the goals for Everton, with the January signing now beginning to establish himself in the Toffees first-team. Jelavic has bagged two goals in three starts since arriving from Glasgow Rangers and, having overcome injuries, has now featured in Moyes’ first XI in the last two, scoring against Swansea last weekend.

I think he has done quite well. When he came he had a bit of a problem with his stomach and he has missed a few weeks but he has given us something slightly different and scored a couple of goals. It can weigh on you (not scoring) and we have had other centre-forwards here who have found it a struggle to score.

With games against West Brom, Norwich and Sunderland up next, Jelavic – priced at 5.9 – is another forward with the potential to be a decent differential over the last eight gameweeks, as Moyes looks to increase a goal threat that has harvested just 30 goals from 30 games thus far.

Victor Moses could be back in the Wigan lineup this weekend, after scans revealed he has not suffered a fractured jaw. The 5.0 midfielder was subbed off at Anfield following a challenge by Martin Skrtel but Roberto Martinez confirmed the prognosis was positive earlier today:

We got him checked out straight away in the hospital because there was the potential for a fractured bone in his face. The results came back really positive and there was no fracture which allows us to treat him. We will see within the next few days whether he is available for selection on Saturday.

The Latics boss also revealed Hugo Rodallega and Mohamed Diame could be on course for quick returns from knee and groin injuries respectively, with both players to be assessed ahead of the weekend game against Stoke.

Beleaguered Wolves boss Terry Connor received some good injury news regarding his injury-stricken midfield earlier today. Karl Henry, David Davis and Stephen Hunt have all returned to training this week, with Henry confident of a return to the first-team fold in the crucial Molineux encounter against Bolton on Saturday. Connor also revealed he is sweating on the availability of Michael Kightly, after a challenge by Grant Holt forced the winger off with an ankle problem towards the end of the 2-1 defeat at Norwich.

Maybe this has already been requested but I'd like a warchest article. Recently, Siggy, McClean, Evans, Valencia etc have become more desirable than their expensive counterparts, leaving a lot of us on here with a giant warchest and no real clue what to do with it. Ideally we could spend it on a big name third striker but none appeal. Again, the cheaper options are performing better right now. So there are two options I've been mulling:

    1) Squander it on deluxe attacking defenders: Verm & Baines
    2) Sit on it, hoping that an expensive attacker suddenly explodes into form and I can get him in without having to liberate funds with multiple downgrade transfers

This seems, as much as anything else, like a question of strategy. What do the old hands think? What do several seasons of experience tell you to do? Can I have an article about it?

Agreed very interesting indeed. Personally I'm not keen to squander it on defenders.

Lindy>Hart - expensive but if you're gonna play him every game I don't see why not!
Enrique>Evans - never too late to get double-digit Evans!
Ba>Jelavic - Looked dangerous last night, about time Everton had a striker like that. Ba...I'm a loss for words, he's just not the FPL he was anymore, I side-stepped to Cissé myself.

At this point in the season I think hits like these can pay off and set you up nicely to the end as it becomes a real rat race from here on.

Yeah it's really disappointing about Ba. Would have gone for Cisse myself too but rival made that move first. I see the logic in pick who you think will score best but it is getting to the point where you have to look for reasonable alternatives when chasing a lead - not really been in this position before, is stressful!

I'd say you could have just gone with Schwarzer (NOR) rather than Hart -4.

Did an 8 point hit too.

Skrtel, Silva, Ba to Baines, Walcott and Jelavic.

Prefer to get the transfers out the way. Getting to the point where I want to take a couple of gambles and try and catch my rival. Not sure they were the best moves but oh well, kinda feel I should have gone with Mata over Walcott as my rival has Walcott.

I'm very tempted to stick my neck out and do Ba-->Jelavic(although I don't even know how he looks!)

He is playable in 6/8 fixtures. It's him or Cisse. Just not sure which one.

I sidestepped to Cisse because Newcastle are a far better attacking team than Everton. Everton have definitely picked up in form but they are never going to rout teams. Cisse has players like Cabaye, HBA, Spiderman and Ba to support him in attack and will get more chances to score than Jelavic.

It was a close call but i went for Jel because he takes some freekicks and i reckon can sneak a pen. He impressed me last night. Cisse seems like raw ability but im not totally convinced. they could both do well

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on Jelavic too and have been impressed. It's just that I get the feeling Everton will never overrun anybody. They defend a lot better these days and try to nick a goal to win it. I agree Cisse doesn't look polished but when on fire could easily bag a hattrick, at least that's how I see it.

Considering you have Schwarzer, who has a nice home game this weekend, the Hart transfer could have waited a week and saved you a hit. The other two transfer look good.

but then i couldnt have got Evans seeing as i already have 2 utd players. Lindy was blocking that transfer. Plus i didnt want to double up with fulham this week. i would have also had to double up on liverpool playing:

        Schwarzer
        Kelly Skrtl Enrique

        now its

        Hart
        Kelly Skrtl Kelly

    Advice desperately needed!
    Would you rather do:
    A. Skrtel out, Baines in
    B. Williamson out, BAE in
    C. Save transfer and play Skrtel this week?

B - BAE looks good until the end of the season, he's got the change of assists and CS. I don't think Baines will get more points to justify the top price.

    Reina

    Siggy, Bale, Walcott, Valencia

    Rooney, RVP, Adebayor

Vorm, McClean, Simpson, Carragher (going next week, DGW hangover!!!!)

    Ideas for this mess?

    Krul Vorm
    Simpson Shawcross Senderos Enrique Evans
    Bale Valencia Siggy Dempsey DYER
    RVP Rooney Ba

    2 frees, 2.8 in bank

    Which option sounds best?

    a) Ba + Dyer > 5.7 striker + Walcott
    b) Dyer to McClean - 2 rivals have him.
    c) Ba upgrade/downgrade to X?
    d) Dyer upgrade
    e) something else

I'd be tempted to leave Dyer now he is back from suspension, unless you are really worried. Then look to change Ba, adn keep one FT for next week, then depending how Dempsey does look to change Demps and possbily one other

Can't decide on my line up/sub order this weekend. Any opinions?

    Bogdan
    Vermaelan, Richards, G Johnson
    Bale, Valencia, Siggy, Miyachi
    RVP (c), Rooney, Pogrebnyak

    Mata, Kelly, J Evans Krul

Feel like Siggy actually makes more sense than Mata.

G Johnson probably won't even play, but if he were to I would fancy chances on attacking points.

Not convinced on Utd clean sheet at Blackburn (as a Utd fan).

Would it be crazy to think Demba Ba is intentionally being made to play second-fiddle to increase Newcastle's chances of keeping him in the summer? Or they know they're going to lose him, so they're getting him to do the donkey work and making P. Cisse the main man already?

ENR. Ba might be play as a lone forward against chelsea away (and possibly city at home?), but as we have no idea when that is, and chelsea are quite tight these days, it's not really worth holding onto him for that. In the other games, you will see more of the toon trident!
