Roberto Di Matteo confirms he intends to rotate the Chelsea squad for the remainder of the season. Kenny Dalglish reveals Charlie Adam has picked up a knee injury, Fabricio Coloccini could be back in a couple of weeks for Newcastle, Graham Dorrans might be available for West Brom this weekend, while Nikica Jelavic grabs another goal as Everton see off Sunderland in the FA Cup:

Chelsea’s Champions League lineup in Benfica was almost as eye-catching as their 1-0 win last night. Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Michael Essien were all benched, with the likes of Paolo Ferreira coming in from the cold to earn his third start of the season. Salomon Kalou vindicated his surprise inclusion by grabbing the winner for the Blues and, with FA Cup duties in addition to the race for a top four finish also playing on his mind, Roberto Di Matteo has admitted there’s going to be plenty rotation down Stamford Bridge way between now and the end of the season:

I’m involving everybody that is in the squad, rotating. We’ll need everybody until the end of the season. We cannot play with just 11 players. You’ll see other players who have maybe played a little less in the past playing more of a role in the future. It’s just impossible for us to play every three days and reach the fitness levels needed to win games.

Kenny Dalglish has revealed Charlie Adam is set to be sidelined with strained knee ligaments. While reports in the press have suggested the former Blackpool man could be out for the rest of the season after sustaining the injury in last week’s 3-2 defeat at QPR, the Liverpool boss is more optimistic on the outcome:

We know Charlie has strained knee ligaments but we still don’t know how long he will be out. He hasn’t had an operation and as it stands he’s not having one. It’s only been a week since he did it. He needs to rest it for another 10 days or so and then he will be reassessed. We’ll see how he is then and we’ll be in a better position to know when he will be back playing. We haven’t ruled him out for the rest of the season. We’re just waiting to see how he progresses.

Alan Pardew received some positive news on the hamstring injury suffered by Fabricio Coloccini in last Sunday’s 3-1 win over West Brom. Subbed off at half-time at the Hawthorns, the Magpies skipper was initially expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks but scans have revealed the problem isn’t bad as first feared, with the Argentine now perhaps missing just two matches (LIV, swa) before returning for the Gameweek 33 home clash against Bolton. With Steven Taylor likely out for the season, Pardew will be keen for a quick return for his captain, with James Perch favourite to slot in alongside Mike Williamson in Coloccini’s absence.

Graham Dorrans is set for a quick return from a hamstring injury this weekend as West Brom travel to Everton. The midfielder was missing for last weekend’s loss to Newcastle with a hamstring problem but looks set to be available for the Goodison showdown – with James Morrison out injured, Dorrans will be amongst a handful of names fighting for the role in the hole behind Marc-Antoine Fortune. Roy Hodgson received another injury boost with the news that Jerome Thomas trained yesterday; the winger was subbed off at half-time against the Magpies due to a hamstring problem. Chris Brunt is expected to train tomorrow for the first time this week; the Irishman has been struggling with a virus and was named on the bench last weekend, coming on as a replacement for Thomas.

Alex McLeish is contemplating a change of personnel and formation ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Villa Park this weekend. With Alan Hutton a major doubt and Charles N’Zogbia ruled out, McLeish is considering Eric Lichaj for a right-back role, while the form of Andreas Weimann may see the Villa boss shift to 4-4-2 in order to accommodate the young forward; certainly, with two goals in their last five, an up-front reshuffle looks a necessity for the toothless midlands outfit. The Villa boss is also sweating on the fitness of skipper Stiliyan Petrov – the Bulgarian has been unable to train all week due to a fever.

Nikica Jelavic was amongst the goals again for Everton last night as the Toffees saw off Sunderland to secure an FA Cup Semi Final showdown with Liverpool. With a couple of goals in just three league starts, the Croatian is gaining in popularity with Fantasy managers – over 6,000 have transferred him in this week – yesterday’s composed finish merely underlined his clinical ability in the opposition box and with form and fixtures (WBA, nor, SUN) on his side, the 5.9 priced forward could be set to produce over the next few weeks, as David Moyes engineers a climb up the table. Last night’s win means Everton’s Gameweek 34 clash with Stoke is currently postponed, though it’s possible the game could be rescheduled for a midweek slot, avoiding a blank in their upcoming schedule.

Owen Coyle is sweating on the availability of Darren Pratley, after the midfielder picked up an injury in last night’s FA Cup defeat at Spurs. The former Swansea man was subbed off with a large gash down the inside of his thigh at White Hart Lane and post-match, the Bolton boss revealed the worst case scenario could be a four to six week spell on the sidelines.

    Please advise…

Baines or Verm (or both for a hit)? And why?

Getting rid of ‘Pool defenders in either case.

Most people seem to be favouring Verm despite Baines having better fixtures over the next two and being on pens, so I’m interested to hear why this is.

I'm leaning towards baines, cost not really an issue for me given good team value and there is plenty of good cheap options, already have walcott and RVP so don't really fancy tripling on arsenal - the potential blank in GW34 is a bit of a downer though

First, because Everton are Everton whereas l'Arse are on fire (see Swansea at the weekend). Also, because Baines hasn't been greatly consistent this season, whereas when Verm has played he's scored / hit the post/bar almost as much as Suarez.

Anyone notice with the captain poll that there's not much man city support

Playing at home to Sunderland who lost to everton there is a good chance of at least 3 home goals in that fixture.

So who would be you're captain if you only had man city players?

I watched about 40 mins of it to see VDV and he was involved quite a bit and should have scored, Bale took a harder chance and scored though so Bale first. I got both in now cos Ade was attrocious and I dont trust him in the least.

I brought in Gerrard last week instead of Valencia. Now I know Stevie scored more, but I was kind of hoping for a big haul to make me want to keep him in my team permanently. The fact that Liverpool have been terrible over the last few weeks and my thinking that Newcastle will give them a good going over this weekend, would anyone recommend doing a swap for Valencia? It would mean that I'd have 2.7 in the bank for the following week.

I may be just bored though...

I've been hurt by Gerrard before (Brought him in for Jan WC, got rid for blank, he scored a hatrick in the double) but I have found this season that playing around with the pricier midfielders too much is just asking for trouble. He will score big again at some point, it's worth giving him a couple of weeks especially as you wouldn't be spending the money elsewhere right now. If you think about why you got him in the first place, and the fact he outscored Valencia this week...plus you have Rooney, Blackburn away isn't easy atm and Newcastle are missing Colocinni and Pool will be on the rebound...it's a move that could really end up hurting.

Yeah I know what you mean. I've been burned by the same thing before. If it was a much tougher game this weekend, he'd be gone. It's just so unpredictable this season, you'd expect Liverpool to carry their bad form into this weekend but you just never know.

I think do the swap. Valencia showed amazing points consistency before his injury and even on return got 16 points (albeit a 10man wolves) He's also freeing up funds and ManU have form , Liverpool dont.

There seems to be a mass clearout of Skrtel from many teams on here before this weeks game at Newcastle. Just a few things to note from my opinion.

    1. Liverpool have played shocking against some poor sides recently BUT seem to always ‘up their game’ against better opposition. This game is also very important for Liverpool if they have any chance of overtaking Newcastle in the league and finishing in the 6th spot and really is a must win if they are aiming to do so.

    2. Liverpool in general are still a solid defensive unit and have already recorded 10 cleansheets in the league this season.

    3. Liverpool are good at scoring from set pieces and with Sktrel’s ariel goal threat against two second choice CB’s in Williamson & Perch this game may give him a good opportunity to notch another goal.

I know alot of people are on the hate wagon for Liverpool defenders/players after the last couple of results, BUT it’s something to consider.

Posted this, this morning. Anymore thoughts on it?

      2. True, but they haven't got a CS in 5/6 last matches.

      3. I don't think it's matter very much who Skrtel is up against.

So, RDM rotating his squad then. As expected. Cahill? Looks nailed on for PL.

Agger is back, plus there's no update on GWk 34, so it's a strong possibility that they'll have a blank. Those two mean people are flooding to the exit door.

It's a sound argument. However, there were very sound arguments against me for taking a hit to do Enrique>Verm prior to the home game against Wigan and that worked out!

Skrtel is going, Baines is coming.

Ya Agger's return is a big factor, doubt he'll make Newcastle though. Having useless Villa next week is the main reason im reluctant to sell now.

I swore to myself I wouldnt touch a Liverpool player, and then I went and bought Skrtel.

Sold him now, and good riddance. When you are winning 2-0 to QPR and you go on to lose... when you cant beat Wigan at home... This is relegation form!! Why would I want to keep a 6.3 defender who is playing for a team that would be bottom of the league if the season started in January?

Fair points. I just fancy Liverpool to get over their blip and start being more solid again. I suppose I am in a different situation to most as I already own Baines & Vermaelen so am not needing to get either one in, in the place of another defender.

I think I will be holding Skrtel & the rest of my defence for the remainder of the season playing a 4-3-3 most weeks with:

      Baines / Verm / Skrtel / Evans

    Schwarzer
    Evans, Kompany, Simpson
    Bale, Silva, Valencia, Mayaichi
Van Persie (c), Rooney (vc), Ba

Subs – Mingolet, Senderos, Enrique, Dyer

Any transfer suggestions this week?Lost quite a chunk of my mini league lead last week.

Im thinking Ba>Cisse.Although i could afford Adeboyer instead.

Will prob bring Vorm back in next week. Also considering getting rid of Silva if he doesnt perk up.

I'm playing someone ahead of me in H2H league(somehow even with most points) and we have very similar teams. There are 5 players which are different:

Me: Skrtel, Dempsey, Gerrard, Siggy, Pogrebniak
Him: BAE, Santon, Scholes, Silva, Graham

Can you think of any changes I can make transfer wise? I think he is going to do Rooney captain, and considering my luck I’m best matching captain. I’ve got Morrison who I need to transfer out, but I can swap someone else, I have £1.1m in bank. Bench also includes NTaylor and Rtaylor.

Considering players: Ben Arfa, Valencia, Walcott, Vermaelen.
    Cheers.

    My eleven this GW contains

    Ba (LIV)
    Siggy (tot)
    Skrtel (new)

Do I use my 1FT and instead play
    1) Cisse (LIV) for Ba
    2) Walcott (qpr) for Siggy* (however Walcott replaces McClean* in my squad)
    3) Vermaelen (qpr) for Skrtel (new)

(disclaimer: a rare re-post, but I botched the details in the first one)
