Roberto Di Matteo confirms he intends to rotate the Chelsea squad for the remainder of the season. Kenny Dalglish reveals Charlie Adam has picked up a knee injury, Fabricio Coloccini could be back in a couple of weeks for Newcastle, Graham Dorrans might be available for West Brom this weekend, while Nikica Jelavic grabs another goal as Everton see off Sunderland in the FA Cup:

Chelsea’s Champions League lineup in Benfica was almost as eye-catching as their 1-0 win last night. Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Michael Essien were all benched, with the likes of Paolo Ferreira coming in from the cold to earn his third start of the season. Salomon Kalou vindicated his surprise inclusion by grabbing the winner for the Blues and, with FA Cup duties in addition to the race for a top four finish also playing on his mind, Roberto Di Matteo has admitted there’s going to be plenty rotation down Stamford Bridge way between now and the end of the season:

I’m involving everybody that is in the squad, rotating. We’ll need everybody until the end of the season. We cannot play with just 11 players. You’ll see other players who have maybe played a little less in the past playing more of a role in the future. It’s just impossible for us to play every three days and reach the fitness levels needed to win games.

Kenny Dalglish has revealed Charlie Adam is set to be sidelined with strained knee ligaments. While reports in the press have suggested the former Blackpool man could be out for the rest of the season after sustaining the injury in last week’s 3-2 defeat at QPR, the Liverpool boss is more optimistic on the outcome:

We know Charlie has strained knee ligaments but we still don’t know how long he will be out. He hasn’t had an operation and as it stands he’s not having one. It’s only been a week since he did it. He needs to rest it for another 10 days or so and then he will be reassessed. We’ll see how he is then and we’ll be in a better position to know when he will be back playing. We haven’t ruled him out for the rest of the season. We’re just waiting to see how he progresses.

Alan Pardew received some positive news on the hamstring injury suffered by Fabricio Coloccini in last Sunday’s 3-1 win over West Brom. Subbed off at half-time at the Hawthorns, the Magpies skipper was initially expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks but scans have revealed the problem isn’t bad as first feared, with the Argentine now perhaps missing just two matches (LIV, swa) before returning for the Gameweek 33 home clash against Bolton. With Steven Taylor likely out for the season, Pardew will be keen for a quick return for his captain, with James Perch favourite to slot in alongside Mike Williamson in Coloccini’s absence.

Graham Dorrans is set for a quick return from a hamstring injury this weekend as West Brom travel to Everton. The midfielder was missing for last weekend’s loss to Newcastle with a hamstring problem but looks set to be available for the Goodison showdown – with James Morrison out injured, Dorrans will be amongst a handful of names fighting for the role in the hole behind Marc-Antoine Fortune. Roy Hodgson received another injury boost with the news that Jerome Thomas trained yesterday; the winger was subbed off at half-time against the Magpies due to a hamstring problem. Chris Brunt is expected to train tomorrow for the first time this week; the Irishman has been struggling with a virus and was named on the bench last weekend, coming on as a replacement for Thomas.

Alex McLeish is contemplating a change of personnel and formation ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Villa Park this weekend. With Alan Hutton a major doubt and Charles N’Zogbia ruled out, McLeish is considering Eric Lichaj for a right-back role, while the form of Andreas Weimann may see the Villa boss shift to 4-4-2 in order to accommodate the young forward; certainly, with two goals in their last five, an up-front reshuffle looks a necessity for the toothless midlands outfit. The Villa boss is also sweating on the fitness of skipper Stiliyan Petrov – the Bulgarian has been unable to train all week due to a fever.

Nikica Jelavic was amongst the goals again for Everton last night as the Toffees saw off Sunderland to secure an FA Cup Semi Final showdown with Liverpool. With a couple of goals in just three league starts, the Croatian is gaining in popularity with Fantasy managers – over 6,000 have transferred him in this week – yesterday’s composed finish merely underlined his clinical ability in the opposition box and with form and fixtures (WBA, nor, SUN) on his side, the 5.9 priced forward could be set to produce over the next few weeks, as David Moyes engineers a climb up the table. Last night’s win means Everton’s Gameweek 34 clash with Stoke is currently postponed, though it’s possible the game could be rescheduled for a midweek slot, avoiding a blank in their upcoming schedule.

Owen Coyle is sweating on the availability of Darren Pratley, after the midfielder picked up an injury in last night’s FA Cup defeat at Spurs. The former Swansea man was subbed off with a large gash down the inside of his thigh at White Hart Lane and post-match, the Bolton boss revealed the worst case scenario could be a four to six week spell on the sidelines.

Yeah Dempsey is only useful for current owners who stuck with him for this week. You need to think further than that. Walcott or Bale.

Just feel so stupid if I play Raylor and he comes on as a sub.

Also Newcastle CS looks very unlikely with their injuries.

          Raylor is also dropping tonight..

And it`s tempting to double up on Lpool defence vs AVL next week.

I dropped my only Liverpool defender this week. The form they are in is awful. Could turn around when Agger gets back, but would not considering going with two pool defenders myself.

      Bogdan
      Skrtel Evans BAE
      Yaya Bale Valencia Siggy Dempsey
      Rooney RVP

      Bench: Reina, Turner, Caulker, Holt.

      2.5 mill in bank.

I really want to stick this week and save transfer. I should lose a Pool defender (i.e. Reina/Skrtel) for Verm or Begovic I suppose, but should I? Is it really worth the transfer, or should I hold on and have two next week to engage in some minor team reconstruction?

If they didn't have City next week then I agree, but see more chance of Skrtel keeping a cleanie against Villa than Verm against City.. That's my issue. You are correct though in that it is a transfer that I will most likely make anyway, so that is food for thought.

think your team is in good shape (no reconstruction required), so i'd be inclined to lose Reina for someone. How about Hart? SUN, WBA, nor, wol in the next 5...can see at least 3/4 cleansheets there!

Yep, you could well have suggested the more logical move there. Hart has higher chance of clean sheet this week. I can then potentially play Bogdan next week (Home to Fulham). Skrtel will then play against Villa. Save my transfer next week and bring in Vermaelen as one of two changes week after.
Seems logical. Currently my favoured transfer, though will double check squad for next weeks fixtures.
          Thanks.

Sorry for repost, but got lost on the bottom of last page.

Shit gw this weekend, but still inside top 5k. Never finished close to that rank before, but my team is not in 100% shape, so fearing for my rank. Did Skrtel->Verm this week.

      Krul (Vorm)
      Verm, Evans, Bae (McAuley, Shotton)
      Bale, Siggy, Valencia, Dempsey (Pilk)
      RvP, Rooney, Ba

No FT's, 3.1 in the bank.

Want to get rid of Ba, but might not be worth it before a game vs a poor Liverpool. Pilkington and Shotton both need to go, but can safely bench both this week.

Still, 3.1 is alot of cash just sitting there.

Stick for this week and sort out Ba/Pilk before the following gw?

      Cheers all.

I don't agree that just because Man Utd have conceded 9 penalties at home since August 2006 and Fulham only 8 that we can conclude that referees favour Fulham more than Man Utd. Agree that people tend to go overboard about how fortunate Man Utd are with refereeing decisions but just to focus on one statistic between two teams is hardly proof of anything.

The sheer volume and intensity of arguments against United would show different figures. I know they don't show anything concrete but they do show rough guidelines and hence shows they aren't treated differently.

Ive only taken one -4 point hit so far this season and was considering another one, but it got me wondering how many the top Fantasy players had taken.

I had a look at the top 10 players and with an obvious bit of guesswork i figured the average -4 deductions in the top 10 was about 1-2 hits so far this season, making me think that in order to gain rank its not really about being a knee jerky tinkerman.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thinks hits can pay off just the same, it is more about controlled hits rather than reacting to last weeks big scores. Think you will also find lots of people at bottom of league with no hits

Interesting topic, would be cool to see how many hits top FPL players take

I keep track of our own league, and thus keep track of the weekly points incl -ve pts for transfers. For the 6 players in our league, ranked from 1st to 6th the negative points taken this season

            (-104, -20, -4, -20, -28, -20)

So the leader has taken more hits than the rest of us combined and is ahead (of me) with 27pts. The gap between 2nd to 3rd and below is then 100pts+

Hi all, been away for a bit, hope all is well.

Considering Drogba for a couple of weeks? Anyone else? Other options are Cisse, Ade, Jelavic to replace Suarez. I feel Drogba has the potential to be the most explosive and a decent differential.

Yeah I think Ade is his main rival for a place in my team, I have Bale already and was considering a Spurs defender for the run in, 3 Spurs may be overkill for an out of form team, even two attacking players might be.

Who has been everybody's most frustrating team this season (thinking in FPL terms here)? For me, without a shadow of doubt it has to be Liverpool. They've flattered to deceive in 2 DGW's, Suarez has been a waste of space while at the back their leaky defence has let down many who have doubled up at the back.

Attacking wise - City, unbelievably. Brought in Dzeko after the 4 goals and got squat and never had Silva at the right time. Defensively probably Liverpool too.

Chelsea have been pretty annoying. Hilario/Bosingwa/Torres got me early. Never had Mata but he's been pretty frustrating at times. And I held sturridge for like 2 months too long.

been my biggest disappointment. With 120m spent since January 2011 I was certain that you could get some offensive returns this season.

I read a couple articles that point out that Suarez was more of a goal poacher at Ajax.

agger is getting mentioned a lot on here lately s he's very relevant to owning liverpool defenders.
the is the closest i've seen to a mention of him since he got injured:

The Reds are contending with a number of other injuries at present, with Craig Bellamy, Martin Kelly, Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson on the sidelines.

"They are all making progress," he added.

"They are all training to various degrees and we will monitor them throughout the week.

"If they're ready to play they will come back into our plans for Sunday."

so nothing direct or specific but perhaps better than nothing

depends how desperate you are for the extra cash. i think both their prices reflect their values well right now, BAE being the better option by just under 1mil.

Wolves and QPR are gone. I reckon Wigan have a chance of surviving though, it depends on Bolton and Blackburn.

I really think he'll do damage against Norwich I really do.

I'm not saying they aren't good choices, I just think Dempsey could be the overall winner. Have you seen his home form?

Play Evans and Senderos and bench Siggy is what I would do.

Oh, and give the armband to RVP 😉

Thanks LT. Bench Siggy...not sure I have the marbles! I could try I suppose as Senderos isn't likely to play.

Hey folks, first post on this site! Today.

I have a little bit of a selection headache this week and need some guidance on who to ship in:

            Krul/Vorm
            Evans/Enrique/Kelly/Simpson/Wilkinson
            Mata/YaYa/Valencia/Sigurdsson/Walcott
            Rooney/RVP/Ba

            2.4 in the bank.

I know Ba needs to go, so I am thinking of Pog, but I don't like Fulham's fixtures medium term but I could do him this week and then Adebayor in a couple. With this talk from RDM about rotation I am also concerned of having a player in Mata who costs a bit and really is due a rest, so, I could get Dempsey IN (I took him out 2 weeks ago).

            Any advice?

Ba or Mata OUT (I am going to assume Mata gets rested away to Villa)

Mata is terrible away. Swapping him for Dempsey makes sense.

Pog is a little too short term. I'd consider Dave Cisse, Odem. Jelavic as better third striker options if you were minded to ditch Ba instead.

Out of the two I'd say Ba's departure is more urgent. Mata is good at home and Ba just has no form at all home or away at the moment.

You should probably keep Mata just in case he starts against Wigan in GW32 and goes mental. Ba>cissé seems right to me.

Now that is a flair move. I've been looking at VDV as well for spurs favourable fixtures. He is looking good at the moment, lots of assist and goal potential. Good call my Lord.

Much thanks for all the responses boys, I don't fancy Spurs to put many past Swansea even at home, but who knows.

Bale/VDV and Ba replacement very much foremost in my thoughts. thanks again.
