Thereโ€™s nothing like a double gameweek to whet the appetite. This morning has brought confirmation of FOUR as the Premier League begins to whip the fixture list back into shape.

Liverpool were first to alert us. The Anfield club have this morning confirmed their home fixture with Fulham, originally due to take place in Gameweek 34, will now occur on May 1, affording both clubs a double gameweek 36 and, subsequently, a blank Gameweek 34.

Itโ€™s something of a surprise, with many expecting the fixture to simply be moved into the midweek slot for Gameweek 34 but, nevertheless, it now adds an intriguing twist to the end of the season and give Fantasy managers plenty to mull over.

Liverpool will now face (nor, FUL), while Martin Jolโ€™s side have (eve, liv) on the agenda. While many will look to grab Anfield assets, with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez both producing the goods in the Redsโ€™ previous double gameweek, Fulhamโ€™s prospects look comparatively bleak.

With just eight goals on the road this season, the Cottagers travel to two of the four tightest defences in the Premier League โ€“ hardly the most enticing of schedules for us to take advantage of. It leaves owners of Clint Dempsey in something of a quandary, then – Fulham have (CHE, blank, WIG, eve & liv) between Gameweeks 33-36. The home clash with Wigan in Gameweek 35 stands out but, with a derby against Chelsea and blank gameweek prior to the Latics clash, then the trips to Everton and Liverpool, there are plenty tactical decisions to be made as we plot to get the most out of our squads over the final hectic month.

Aston Villa were next to issue an update. The clubโ€™s official website have announced their game at home to Bolton, originally scheduled for Gameweek 32 but cancelled due to Fabrice Muambaโ€™s collapse at Tottenham in the FA Cup, will now take place on Tuesday April 24, giving both clubs a double Gameweek 35.

Alex McLeishโ€™s side now have back-to-back home matches (SUN, BOL) on their agenda, while the Trotters can look forward to (SWA, avl) in their bid to beat the drop. Right now, Bolton have a blank gameweek preceding this, with their home match against Spurs yet to be rescheduled, while Villa travel to Old Trafford prior to their couple of home fixtures.

Bolton have now confirmed their home match with Tottenham will be scheduled for Wednesday May 2, meaning both sides have a double Gameweek 36. Incredibly, this gives Owen Coyle’s side back-to-back double Gameweeks, with (sun, TOT) this time round, while Spurs face (BLA, bol), with plenty investment sure to come the London outfit’s way.

The likes of Ryo Miyaichi will surely see investment for the Trotters, while Gareth Bale, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Emmanuel Adebayor will be drafted in by many a Fantasy manager with such favourable fixtures for Harry Redknapp’s side.

Chelsea have also got in on the act. The Stamford Bridge outfit have rescheduled their home clash with Newcastle for Wednesday May 2,affording both clubs a double gameweek 36. With two home clashes, Chelsea (QPR, NEW) look primed for investment, with Juan Mata likely to lead the charge, while the Magpies have (wig, che) to consider, for the likes of Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba.

There is now one outstanding fixture as, of yet, unscheduled from Gameweek 34, then. As we explained in yesterdayโ€™s article, the remaining game is:

  • Stoke vs Everton

We’ll bring you more as we get it.

City vs Utd also in GW36 makes it more interesting as points may be limited in this game. Arsenal, Utd and City all play in GW34 so things shouldn't be too bad.

Not worth trying to field 11 players for GW34 then. Would spend 2FTs, no hit and end up with:

    Vorm
    Caulker, Evans, Kompany.
    McClean, Surman, Valencia.
    Rooney, RVP(c), Yak.

Then Surman to Miyachi immediately for GW35. The rest I can't begin to work out afterwards....

CL Group D: Matchday 6 Preview

One more Matchday and we're into the knock-outs. Group D had its own fair share of surprises - Madrid (2nd seeded in the tourney) currently sits at 4th place in the group with 3 points. Through a series of consistent performances, Dinamo (the dark horse of the group) emerged as the first to qualify for the knock-outs in the tourney with 12 points. Daniel, the FPL veteran, after getting off to a brisk start in the tourney with 2 wins but following up with 3 losses, now sees his team in a must-win situation. Lyon sits pretty at 2nd position with 9 points and the best overall goal difference in the group.

For the record, here's how the group will be decided:
    1) Higher the points, higher the position.
    2) If 2 teams are tied on the same points, then it goes down to h2h record (win/loss)
    3) If the h2h record is the same, then it goes to Overall GD. If its still tied, then we go to away points scored in the matches between the tied teams.
    4) When 3 or more teams are tied on the same points, the Overall GD is taken into consideration.
    5) The group winner & runners-up qualify for the knock-outs and the 3rd spot qualifies for Round 2 of the Europa League.

Time to see which teams are favorites to go through to the knock-outs:

Dinamo: Having already qualified into the knock-outs, Dinamo will now play to emerge group winner. The equation is straightforward. A home win/draw against Lyon makes them the group winner, a loss will see them qualify as a runner-up due to inferior goal difference to Lyon.

Lyon: An away win against Dinamo will take them to the top of the group. Even an away loss shouldn't be an hindrance for them to qualify, courtesy of their GD. For Lyon to miss out on 2nd place, Lyon needs to lose to Dinamo by a large margin, Ajax will have to win by a huge margin against Madrid and lose out on about 54 points of GD (39 + 15 = 54) to Ajax, in which case they will secure the Europa spot.

Ajax: With one Matchday left, Ajax is up against it. For them to qualify, Lyon needs to lose to Dinamo by a large margin, Ajax needs to win at home by a huge margin against Madrid and make up about 54 points of GD (39 + 15 = 54) over Lyon. A loss will see them crashing out of CL. As long as Ajax doesn't lose by 17 points or more to Madrid, they shall secure the Europa spot.

Madrid: The group favorite, Madrid is eliminated from the CL. For them to secure the Europa spot, they will need to defeat Ajax on the road by 17 points or more.

    Predictions:
Ajax vs Madrid - Both teams are affected by injuries and are likely to use their FT. The biggest differential for Madrid could be Clint Dempsey. Maybe a cheeky captain punt on the American is on the cards to make up for the GD. Verdict - An away win could be on the cards but the margin would not be enough for Madrid to secure the Europa spot.

Dinamo vs Lyon - Could be a close match to decide the group winner. The captain's pick and the battle between Silva/Bale vs Walcott/Dempsey could make the difference. Verdict - Narrow home win.

I think there will be good points to gain by preparing properly for gameweek 34. Every player short of a full XI you are negates the positive effects of a double gameweeker. I'd rather field a full XI in 34 and take some point hits for doublers than load up on doublers and miss out on 34. Four good teams have good fixtures in 34 too.

Yeah, let's get thinking - West Brom, Swansea, Sunderland, Man U, Man City and Arsenal are the teams to have in GWk 24 - try to get at least 5 or 6 of those.

Kompany is a good shout for this week and till the end. Has a game in 34 then Wolves home next game.
