A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone got a decent plan for my team £1.6 in bank currently have 9 playing for week 34. The whole thing is confusing me at the moment so here is my team

    Krul/Vorm
    Enrique/Verm/Evans/Caulker/Kelly
    Bale/Dempsey/Valencia/Siggy/Walcott
    Rvp/Rooney/Ba

I'm guessing I need to lose Kelly and 1 of Ba or Dempsey do I save a transfer this week or make 1 or do I get in Ade for Ba now which will leave me 0 in bank and still 9 playing, someone shed some light please

    Vorm (Bogdan)
Terry | Jevans | Baines (Caulker, Kilgallon)
Walcott | Dempsey | Valencia | Bale (Sigurdsson)
    Rooney | Sturridge | RVP

Im thinking whether or not i should change Bale to Mata, should I ?

    Vorm/mignolet
    Caulker/Ekotto/Vermaelen/Evans/Wilkinson
    Siggy/Sess/Walcott/Valencia/Reo-Cooker
    Rooney/RVP/P.Cisse

This is what i thought when doing WC last week (had to take a 4 point hit this week, morisson&Fletcher to Ba - Cooker)
Chose Vorm cause of Swansea`s home form, would have to change keeper in next few weeks, might get habsi in GW38.
I`ve got Swansea, MANUTD, SPURS & Arsenal cover at the back cause they have good fixtures
Same for Midfield, Swans, Arsenal, ManUTd cover and bonus sessegnon
You`ve got to have Rooney and RVP upfront, i chose p.cisse cause of fixtures and individual form.

Can someone rate my team please

    Resteady

Dempsey + Holt > Sess + Bendtner by the time GW34 arrives.

Keep Ridgewell for GW34 as he is (h) to QPR

That leave Wilkinson as the player I want rid of. I will have £5.1m to spend on a defender with the DGW in mind.

    Do I get?

    a) Wheater

    b) Collins

    c) Other DGW player

If you want someone for both DGWs the get Wheater or Ream

When do we find out about when the Everton & Stoke game will be played?

Do most people think it will fall within GW 34? Holding back from bringing in Baines...

I don't own him, if he has a DGW in 36 I will find a way. That way will maybe be RvP out (to either Suarez or Torres).

Giving me 7 DGWers, think that is enough.

Atm with one hit I have 10 in GW34 and 6DGW in G36 (and Baines)

Seems good enough to me. Would like Sess for GW34, but would involve getting rid of Miyachi before the DGW which seems farely pointless.

I plan on having 11 for 34 (Dempsey to Sess) and can get 5 for DGW wtih no hot, 6 with 1 or 7 with 2, but at least one of those hits needs to be for the last 3 weeks, hence where Baines comes in.

Poached eggs for breakfast, 768 GWs from now? You have me doubting myself as you suggested Scrambled eggs instead. I have a sneaky feeling pancakes with crispy bacon drizzled with maple syrup could be the flair pick...especially with a DGW.

Just watched MOTD there... just how crap is Roger Johnson? Hard to believe he was an ever-present in Brum's tight defence. When Kevin Davies makes you look like a mug you know it's time to assess your chosen profession.
Vermaelen too who I rate fairly highly was completely at fault for both QPR goals. Strange one.

Also... why when I type "defence" does the spell check tell me I'm wrong?! This isn't FantasySoccerScout!!

That is why I an doubling on United defence. Since this is not an option for you I would do Senderos (who even if he did have a fixture would likely not play) to Caulker, who does have a fixture, is among the best bets for Cs. Plus bar GW37 Swans have nice fixtures after this week.

I can see a draw................. possibly! somehow I just don't think Swans have what it takes to beat Tottenham at White Heart Lane

I hope you're right, you just don't know what Swan's side is going to turn up

Who would you play next week

    McAuley(BLA) or Kaboul(sun)

Neither will keep it clean. Kaboul offers some goal threat perhaps.

I have very similar issue myself, Simpson vs BAE.

Yeah, I'd def go BAE from those two. Newcastle will be leaky without Colo

I can see them keeping it clean against Swansea actually, while Sess&Co. should score at least 1 (likely more) past Friedel.

But indeed, BAE sounds like a logical choice 😛

    Dream scenario........

Spurs 1-1 Swansea with Bale & Sigursson scoring and Vorm saving a penalty.

Bore draw between Newcastle & Pool with cleanies for both sides

United hammer Rovers 3-0 with a Rooney brace and an assist or two for Tony V.
