A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Baines may sneak a bp or even 3 in the Everton game. Stats look good. 1 og and 1 goal from someone coming on as a sub, compared to Baines's clean sheet. Pienaar likely to get some aswell.

Just planned my transfers for the rest of the season

32: Shotton to evans (Has to be done been put off for some time)

    33: Nothing (Save the transfer)

34: Kelly Demps Simps to Mcauley Verm Sess (Gives me 11 for the week)

    35: Nothing (Save the transfer)

36: Roon Verm to Torres and Terry (Gives me, Suarez Skrtel Bale Terry and Torres with doubles)

37: Torres to Yak (Fancy him for the relegation scrap)

38: Suarez to Ballo (Nice home game potentially for the title)

What do we think about that plan, anything I have missed?

It's nice to have a plan even if it has to be altered. I wouldn't normally look this far ahead it was just because of the lack of games in 34 and the doubles in 36.

You know I was about to post something similar for my plans for my team, but on reading it, I realised it is very difficutlt for someone to invest so much of time on a single post. You will have to lay the groundwork yourself.

Why do you want to take a 4pt hit for gw34 just to field 11 players that week. Don't do Kelly->McAuely.

I put Kelly ahead of J Evans on my bench aswell.

The fact that City drew today massively changes my opinion on Utd match now though, as they will be playing with a lot less pressure, so wish it was the other way around.

Still G Johnson could play and keep a cleanie and score a goal tomorrow yet 😀

    Disappointing afternoon.

Got home to Chelsea 4-2, Bolton 3-2, so thought the two key attacking players for both teams might have got me decent returns. 1 assist between them. Bugger.

At least I stuck with my gut and avoided RVP.

Bale captain has potential to work out well. Getting rid of Dempsey ahead of Mata hasn't worked out too bad though as Mata has got 9 to Dempsey's probable 15 over the past 2 weeks, but has home to Wigan before I get next so could actually work out better potentially (just hope he's not rotated).

Evening gents - I am a slow learner, particularly after playing this game for 5 years.

    * Don't change your captaincy at 11.29 a.m. (moved it to RVP from Dempsey)
    * Don't get a player back in who has already 'burnt' you - Vermaelen
    * Worry about the gamesweek in hand, not one occurring in 3 weeks time (chose Verm over Baines because Baines doesn't currently have a fixture in gw34)

    Moan over 🙂

I want to bench Dempsey as woul like to play Dave, RVP and Rooney upfront. Dunno if that is correct as Dempsey looks good?

Any chance RDM may not have noticed that one of the most lame teams in the Prem scored twice only after Cahill came on?

can't remember who it was that, when it was said that "cahill is a great defender because of his excellent last ditch tackles", came back with that they was due to his terrible positioning

He wasnt at fault for both goals .... for 2nd ACole was but for first was just lack of concentration... when game becomes so easy as it was for Chelsea players tends to loose concentration for a moment or so ... but nothing to worry about we are going up and improving game by game... UP BLUES

Right. My thought for the day.

Why the worry a bout Gw 34/36? The less you have in 34 the more you have in 36 and vice versa. I don't see the stress really. The big differentials are Bolton with 2 doubles, but do you really want anyone other than Miyaichi/Metrov?

If Granville could let everybody know who he has as 1st sub for each of the remaining gamesweeks I am sure we could all benefit:

Yaya last week (9 points); Sess this week (8 + bonus points)

Unlucky mate - you'll be praying for one of your remaining players not to make it.

Also if I let you know who I'm buying, you can all steer clear. Warning I bought Evans this week!

17(-4) with 8 left. Picked Verm (0) over Baines (6), another great pick by me. Just want this FPL season to be over with
