A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My plan for GW32 is to do Dempsey to Siggy then get him back GW35 for Wigan and DDGW.

Clint's games are bol, CHE, blank. Siggy's are NEW, qpr, BLA

Bolton are poor but Fulham have 8 goals away all season.

This move raises the funds to do Crouch>Tevez GW33 for WBA, nor, wol.

        Thoughts?

Here is my issue, I can get him back in in 35 no probs, but if I got Carlos I couldn't get Clint back in 35 without shipping Theo.

Then I'd have to ship Clint and Carlos to Ade and find someone for 36 (or just get Theo back in)

plus I'd need hits as I own Siggy and McClean already. Planned on Sess in 34, Ryo has no fixture in 34, could drop Sess and Theo in 35 then Ade in in 36, but I'd need a hit in 35 as I want De Gea in this week.

                Still depends on his starts.

am still convinced doubling on United defence is the way forward, but keeping Schwarzer offers so much flexibility, but United seem the only team that can relied upon for CS. It's all this DGW stuff, it's thrown me off.

Same here JK. Richards' injury leaves me totally screwed and can't see anyone I want to bring in for gw34. May be down to 9 or 10 men that gw but even most of the dgwers look decidedly average.

I want Sess for 34, but Clint at home to Wigan in 35 has thrown my plans off.

I still think getting De Gea is the way forward, United have 3 straight CS, can see Rovers scoring on Monday, but don't see QPR, Wigan or Villa doing so.

I already have 3 Man U... I wouldn't get sucked in by Clint love. Look at his recent history. I'd just dump for Sess.

There's a Tevez bandwagon now for his fixtures in 34, 35 and 36. He's just too darn expensive to be taking hits for.

I sold Young last week so I have a spot open. Don't trust Schwarzer full stop, don't trust Mings until 36 minimum. United are best value for CS right now.

Any suggestions? Silva has to go now after another poor display. Bale possibly but he got no fixture in GW 34 so maybe he can wait. Any other midfielders worth a shout at the minute?
Santon and kelly need to go too as does Skrtel ? Team is

        Schwartzer Miglonet
        Enrique Skrtel Santon Kelly Evans
Mata Silva Valencis Siggy Mc Clean
        RVP ADe Rooney
        Which transfer is priority though?

I'm keeping Quirts for the time being due to fixtures and disasters elsewhere. Kelly seem OK to me but I do have Santon... probably shift to a Sunderland der (Turner).

Can I ask who to bench? Its my brother team he asked me and I really really don't have a clue. He has a transfer too with more then 2m in the bank.

        The team:
        Vorm TOT (A), Sorensen

        Evans J BLA (A), Taylor R LIV (H), Assou-Ekotto SWA (H), Jose Enrique NEW (A), Caulker NEW (H)

Sigurdsson TOT (A), Gerrard NEW (A), Bale SWA (H), Valencia BLA (A), McClean TOT (H)

Ba LIV (H), Holt EVE (H), Rooney BLA (A)

Don't have a clue really beside playing Vorm. Ok tough question. He currently plays 4 5 1 with Rooney lonely upfront.
        Thanks,

I was struggling to decide whether to play Wilkinson (h) to Wolves next week or Caulker (h) to Newcastle. After Stoke's performance today I think Caulker is the obvious choice now.

Just had a look at the optas. Fletcher looked like he had a great game. Shame his club is so appallingly run. Most goal attempts of any striker so far. Hope another, properly run, club snaps him up next season.

It seems like so long ago that I did a watch list article on him and got him in as well. Then big mick got sacked and they prepared for the championship. Real shame . Good to see him put the effort in tho.

Yeah things were looking good for them and he could do no wrong. Such a natural finisher.

The way Wolves have handled the sacking of McCarthy and subsequent replacement has been a disgrace. So irresponsible of them to sack someone with his experience and not have a good contingency plan. They deserve everything they get.

Should of had at least 2 today. Had one cleared off the line and headed against the bar when he really should of scored. He'll certainly be in the Premier League next season, unfortunately we won't!

Being in the Premier League has been great, but us sliding into the Championship, it's not something that upsets me so much. I've been following Wolves for over 30 years and only 4 of those have been in the top division, so next season will be more like what I'm used to!

Just a shame we didn't show a little more boldness in the transfer market this season. We've got a brand new stand behind one of the goals, but no way of filling it next season. We'll lose Fletcher, Doyle, Jarvis, Hennessey and quite a few more. All the hard work of the last few years down the pan. There again it wouldn't be any fun being a Wolves fan if we were always successful!
