A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If Smalling doesn't make another 2 minute cameo my ML rival has -1 on his bench.

    Caulker - n/a

    Buzsaky - 0

    McAuley -1

    Well played sir.

Alright buddy, should be closer this time, not got Dempsey coming in as captain this time.

I would be inclined to keep Silva as you can only field 9 players for GW34. I would look to lose Simpson, Kelly and possibly Dempsey by then? Enrique has good fixtures and with Agger back their defense should become solid again. If you carry forward Enrique, Bale and one of Dempsey/Simpson/Kelly you would be in good shape! You will have 3 transfers by then but would be benefitial to carry forward an extra for the double. Id suggest...

      GW32 - Kelly > Caulker
      GW33 - Dempsey > Walcott
      GW34 - Save
GW35 - 2 Free to prepare for double

Silva has ars WBA wol so not too bad!

haha seriously! i swear i've had the worst luck. newman-cini beat me when i was away because raylor didn't play and he got caulker off the bench for some nice score (9 or 12 pts i think). otherwise i would have stole the away match. ironic that dempsey has done well both times we've played...

looks like its suarez skrtel krul for you and vorm, siggy and 1pt for me. sadly my skrtel to verm transfer was a pretty big failure :(. im hoping i beat you but you still advance and we have the same group standings as the actual champions league this year haha 😀

would you lose kelly or simpson for caulker?
and see the thing is i honestly think walcott will do better than silva and i think its a abit silly to sell dempsey when i'll want him back for the dgw probably.

My Kompany transfer didn't work out much better!

Do Walcott to Silva then (but it will cost you a transfer at expense of the double) and its 50/50 for Simpson/Kelly.

Some penalty stats for the PL this season

Liverpool - won 5 pens (6th highest in the league), 3 saved (highest in the league). 1 missed also so only 1/5 scored 😆

Newcastle - gave away 9 pens (highest in the league), 2 saved (joint 2nd highest in the league with several others)

my mid will be Ryo x2, Bale x2, Siggy, Theo (can't afford any other DGW mids)

      RvP/Torres/Suarez, Rooney and Ade.

Rooney will score v City IMO, not prepared to lose him for a week. If RvP's form has hit a wall I am prepared to lose him though.

      Skrtel x2 Baines/Cole/BAE x2 Caulker (Wolves)
      Bale x2 Dempsey x2 Mata/VDV x2 Siggy (Wolves)
      RVP Ade x2 Suarez x2

      4 point hit

my issue with transferring Cole or Ivan in for a hit in DGW is that I'm liable to want to take them out after it as Chelsea play Liverpool as I planned on dumping Skrtel. But I could just bench Ivan that week and then do Skrtel to Verm/Sagna for 37.

    Any Sky FF players here?

Is there any way to see the confirmed points for each player so far this GW?

The live updates are not always accurate by their own admission and all you see afterwards is your total score updated the next day without a break down of who got what.

What would you do with this team?

    Reina

    Skrtel Evans Vermaelen

    Siggy Val Walcott Demps

    RVP Rooney Pog

    Subs: Bogdan, Caulker, Pilk, Kelly

I have 1 FT and 3.3m in the bank.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Do folks have a few transfer hits to take to get 11 players out for GW34 or are some going in with less than 11 players?

I'm happy to go into the week with 10, with no hits.

Arsenal United and City players plus Sess Bendy Siggy Graham Yak Odem could be worth a hit if you cant field 11, if not stay clear!

Theres still 3 freebies before 34. I don't see why people should be struggling. Maybe take a four pointer at worst

I reckon there will be a lot of strugglers, especially those who don't look forward, suddenly realising they've only got 5/7/9 players and panicking. then there is the obvious gamble after on how many DGW's to get in, interesting days because there will be big winners and losers. Obviously I'm hoping to be one of the former! 😉

I think 10 is the minimum some people are going with. Some will need to take a hit or two who are really low on GW34 players but you don't want to go overboard on hits just to make up a team which might not make up for them.

Agreed, then there's the DGW, not a lot of obvious big hitters on first glance but it still early days.

        Mingolet
        Verm
        Evans
Caulker - gw 32 tfr in
        McCauley
        A Young
        Valencia
        McClean
Yaya - gw 33 tfr in
        Balotelli
        RVP

Subs - Al habsi, Enrique, bale, Suarez

Any thoughts on a gw34 recruit ahead of a wildcard massacre the week after?

Dempsey out (I know he performed today but still not convinced of his future returns) and Walcott in? (so I have GW34 player and Walcott has form / fixtures anyway)

    Team would look like this:

    Bogdan
    Enrique / Evans / Caulker
    Bale / Walcott / Valencia / Siggy
    Cisse / Rooney (c) / RVP

subs: Friedel / Kelly / Moses / Richards

Drunk here! 28's ok this week so far but disappointed I benched Sess over Siggy at the last minute after having Siggy benched all week. Let's hope Siggy replicates his recent away performances.

11 players in GW 34 will elevate your rank much more than going after DGW'ers.

not necessarily. i think that 3 spurs players for the dgw will pay off much more than having an extra one or two westbrom or sunderland players for example

A good score in a low scoring week will take you further than a big score in a high scoring week every single time.

I agree with you Hunter, however your analysis is more relevant to you as your consistently in the higher end of the placings, if your further down the rankings your more likely to get a bigger rise in the DGW due to being amongst casual players, does that make sense?

And a low score in a high scoring week will make you plummet further than a big score in a high scoring week elevates your rank...
