As the April 8 amnesty draws near, there are now just three names sitting in wait of the Damoclean sword that will seal their fate. With just one Gameweek left to negotiate for all our protagonists before the bar is raised to 15 yellows after Sunday, our trio are nearing the end of their uncomfortable journeys.

Having successfully come through losses at QPR and Wigan respectively without cautions, long term incumbents Laurent Koscielny and Ryan Shawcross will move on to their weekend match ups as the Easter schedule heats up.

Shawcross welcomes Wolves to the Britannia and need to stay on the good side of Mike Halsey, whose yellow card average is amongst the lowest in the league (2.38 cards per game but no reds in 16 previous fixtures). Koscielny entertains Manchester City at the Emirates in Sunday’s final showdown and will be keen to stay out of Martin Atkinson’s notebook; Atkinson already blinks on our radar as a flasher of reds – he has pulled out a table-topping eight in 24 games this year and also has an above average yellow count (3.33 per game).

Joining those previous two faces for company on this final week rollercoaster is the QPR captain Joey Barton. Booed by his own fans following a poor display in the win over Liverpool, Barton took to the programme at the weekend to call for some unity ahead of the difficult run. Never one to miss an opportunity, he also responded on the pitch with an improved performance and a ninth yellow card in the win over Arsenal – more representative of the Barton we’ve been accustomed to seeing this year – and earned himself a place on the high wire. Barton’s fixture is another tough one as he takes his QPR team to Old Trafford and a date with the current league leaders, but with Lee Mason at the helm of this one (2.65 yellows per game and no reds in 20 previous fixtures) Barton may be relaxed about the chances of reaching the suspension limit.

Finally it’s away from the potentials and on to the immediate bad boys, and while Djibril Cissé continues to serve his time, It’s the unlikely shape of Pepe Reina who goes to join him on the naughty step. Guilty of an attempted head-butt in the loss to Newcastle, Liverpool’s Spanish stopper gave referee Martin Atkinson little choice than to add to his reputation, even if the theatrics of recipient James Perch were a little on the dramatic side. Reina will now sit out the next three games for the Anfield club, with Gameweek 32 and 33 followed by the FA Cup Semi-final against Everton. Brazilian Doni will presumably step in to relive José Enrique for that spell.

GAMEWEEK 32 BANS

  • Pepe Reina (LIV) – 1 Red for violent conduct (first of 3 matches)
  • Djibril Cissé (QPR) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 4 matches)

Really enjoyed hammering( reflecting?) Utd's European reputation in this competition. I've done quite well over the past few weeks league wise so I think I was just unlucky in the match ups. Good luck to those still in it and dropping down to Europa! 🙂

Gabby Agbonlahor named the new Villa captain. Not sure about that. He needs to concentrate on getting fit and scoring goals that they desperately need.

Given, Collins or Cuellar better options imo.

Yeah he is a Villan through and through. I just think Villa need him to score the goals and thought maybe the captaincy might be a distraction for him when an older player might handle it better. Could work the other way though and it inspires him to play better than ever.

    Afternoon all!

I know its a boring transfer but with no other pressing transfer how does Kelly -> Caulker sound? I could then field 9 in gwk 34 (Will be 10 when I do Demps -> Sess)..

I could just save the transfer but I think I will probably end doing it at some stage anyway.

I also own Vorm but will have only 4.1 to spend.

Anyone want to help me come up with a plan for the weeks leading up to GW 36? My team at the moment is:

    Schwarzer Mignolet
    Senderos Evans Cahill Simpson Rangel
    Bale Walcott Siggy Miyachi Young
    Ba Rooney Rvp

I have 1.0 in the bank and players I'm looking to get rid of would be Ba and Senderos mainly but can't decide who for. Any ideas? 🙂

May stick with just 10 for gw 34. Currently on 8, but quite keen to hang onto Dempsey and Bale, and just get in one defender (Turner most likely) and one striker (not sure who, for Ba). Would like Sess, but no point jettisoning either Bale or Demps if I want them for the double - effectively Sess would have to get 8 points just to break even on the two transfers he'd cost.

Then I can carry a free into gw35, meaning I can get 3 more in for the double.

    Thoughts?

Yeah 10 players in GW34 is good enough. And if you want to keep Bale and Dempsey for the weeks ahead there is no point getting rid just cos other people are thinking of getting Sess in.

Is it wrong of me to bench Holt (h) to Everton this week?

Kind of want to play my midfield 5 after they all did well for me this week.

Ok this might seem quite confusing at first but hear me out...

I think that having 9 players in GW34 & 8 DGWers in GW36 (with no hits)... is just as good as

    10/11 players in GW34 & 8 DGWers in GW36 (with 4/8pts hits respectively)

By taking a hit to get an extra player in over GW34, or taking 1/2 hit(s) to get an extra DGW player in GW36, you are basically spending 4 points from your score in these two GWs...

I would rather have only 9 and not have -4 points from the off, because you are really only guaranteed 2pts back for GW34 (4pts for GW36 if they play both) and will need a defensive/attacking return to make your points back...

Any huge holes in that theory?

Other than Bolton and Villa everyone has the same number of games

Ideally you build now to be sure you have 11 players with good fixtures in 34, then get three more dgwers for a 4 point hit by 36.

Is it worth doing Adebayor to Torres this week?
I'm not sure if I should be playing on a week by week basis or looking at the long run.
Torres will outscore Ade this week, but I don't know if wasting my FT on it is worth it. I could do Richards to Terry instead to strengthen my defence. I'm going to wait for the CL games first to do the transfer anyway.
