Having failed to notch away from Craven Cottage this calendar year, many a Fantasy managers’ plans for the upcoming double Gameweek 36 had centred around getting rid of Clint Dempsey. This afternoon at the Reebok, the American give us plenty to ponder as a brace ended Bolton’s recent winning run and sent the US international to second behind Robin Van Persie in the overall points rankings.

Prior to today’s display, Dempsey’s notoriously poor away form had produced just three goals, compared to 10 goals and six assists in front of his own fans. With a blank Gameweek 34 on the horizon and trips to Liverpool and Everton in Gameweek 36, the decision to transfer him out made plenty sense; Fulham had scored just eight on the road all season before today, after all. Now, however, many have a dilemma.

Given his current form, those still holding Dempsey will surely look upon Monday evening’s upcoming home clash against Chelsea as another potentially strong opportunity of points. The visit of Wigan in Gameweek 35 affords him the chance of a substantial home haul, with the option of the captain’s armband a definite possibility.

While Gareth Bale and David Silva (without a goal since Gameweek 24 and Gameweek 16 respectively) stumble towards the finish line, Dempsey – handed a role up front in light of Pavel Pogrebnyak’s absence – simply shows no sign of letting up as he forges further ahead of his fellow-midfielders in the Fantasy running.

Transfer plans may now be postponed or ripped up altogether as we look for ways to hold onto the American. That straight swap for Theo Walcott before Arsenal’s trip to Wolves on Wednesday that many had in mind, or the move to Stephane Sessegnon for Sunderland’s home game with the midlanders in Gameweek 34 may never see the light of day now. With form the clear winner over fixtures as the season heats up, can we really afford to run the risk of moving out such a potent source of points?

Is everyone making sure they are able to pitch a starting 11 for GW34? I only have a good 10 at the moment... not sure whether to use a transfer to get that 11...

Have 10, not too worried about it. Will have Sess from Sunderland, and nine players from Swansea, Arsenal and ManUtd. I guess I could buy Bendtner or a Man City defender, but I would have to take a hit and it doesn't seem worth it.

              Precisely.

Surely cisse can't keep it going up at the moment. He's scoring is Ronaldo-esque at the moment, he can't score 2 every game...

Differentials and cheeky punts like Suarez are what's needed right, so easily could have scored last week with the open goal and scored once and hit the woodwork today.

Got fixtures that he can defo score in coming up too.

      I honestly think Cisse.

When Man Utd and Arsenal inevitably score, Rooney and RVP are surrounded by "point stealers" (particularly Roo).

If Newcastle score, which they should, Cisse will be involved.

    FAO Corrigan

ok folks here is my current plan up to DGW

GW34 save transfer and play with 10

    GW35 Theo to Clint (c)

GW36 De Gea, Evans, and Rooney to Friedel, Baines, and Ade (-4)

    Thus in 36

    Friedel (BLA, bol)

Baines (sto, FUL) Santon (wig, che) Caulker (WOL)

Bale (BLA, bol) Dempsey (eve, liv) Sess (BOL) Siggy (WOL)/McClean (BOL)

Rvp (sto) Cisse (wig, che) Ade (c) (BLA, bol)

I’d have 2.3 spare, anyone suggest an improvement on those transfers?

I am wondering if I should play Skrtel over Caulker in 36? If not is it worth not saving the transfer in 34, and shipping him for a City defender who can be benched in 36, then having those 3 transfers in 36 for an 8 pointer?

I'd have to get a different keeper than Friedel then, and no one else has great fixtures in 37, would fancy Mingolet at Fulham, if United have won the league De Gea may not even play.

Problem with VDV is that he could well be rotated for one of those fixtures. Same with Mata, with the program Chelsea has around that time. Gerrard is playing for Liverpool, so I wouldn't really go for him.

Dempsey might have two difficult matches, but he can do the job against everyone. I wouldn't count him out, and with GW35 in mind I think he'll do the job.

This week must go down as the biggest catalogue of disastrous decision-making.

After another poor showing by Ba last Saturday, I thought easy enough, just do Ba to Cisse. But then with a gradual conviction that Dempsey wouldn’t do much away from home even against Bolton, I transferred out Ba & Dempsey for Ade and Sess. Then to further compound my woe, I (logically, given Swansea's home record) played Vorm over Krul and put Santon as last sub.

The consequence, 16 points from 6 players and 22 on my bench. In addition, having reduced my department ML leader’s lead to 36 points, he now stands on 45 points tonight to my 16 🙁 Just to cap it off, no doubt his (c), RVP, will score a hattrick and mine, Rooney, will get the inevitable 2-pointer.

    Hurry up GW33.

Sorry for a repost, but would like to know if Kilgallon is a reliable option or should one just get Turner.
And which defender to switch out for one of them- Cahill(looks under threat of rotation and would be my first choice to get rid) or Kelly and Enrique.

Yeah, it's my first proper year as a FPL manager (quit my team after around 3 rounds last season because of a lack of internet connection where I lived at the time), and have been doing it pretty much on my own this far. Now I'm 1 point behind the leader in my mini league, so I decided I'd need all the help I could get! I've also been getting better at this after an awful start (didn't really understand the rules, used my WC in the third round etc.), so hope I can give some sound advice too.

And I'll get me an avatar too. 🙂
