[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The April 8 suspension amnesty has now passed, meaning the bar has now been raised to 15 yellows before any further bans for cautions accrued kick in. Only one of the three players sitting on nine yellows prior to last weekend picked up a booking – Laurent Koscielny was the guilty party at the Emirates against City on Sunday, meaning the Arsenal centre-half will now sit out the next couple of Gameweeks.

Arsene Wenger will need to make do without Koscielny’s services for Wednesday’s trip to Wolves as well as next Monday’s home clash against Wigan, before the defender is available for selection for the Emirates showdown with Chelsea in Gameweek 35.

The Gunners man was hardly the headline-maker in the 1-0 win, though. That dubious honour went the way of Mario Balotelli and, according to reports, the City forward could, potentially, be facing a nine-game ban for his misdemeanours.

Having already been dismissed earlier this season, Balotelli will definitely be handed a three-match suspension for his sending off, while he may also incur the FA’s wrath for the first-half studs-up lunge on Alex Song. If referee Martin Atkinson reports that neither he nor his assistants had a view on the latter incident, the FA may also charge Balotelli with violent conduct – that would bring a three-match ban, plus three more matches for his previous dismissals would bring the tally to nine.

Branislav Ivanovic could also be heading for trouble after his off-the-ball punch on Wigan’s Shaun Maloney. The incident happened in the build-up to Chelsea’s late winner over the Latics but, as the referee Mike Jones missed the incident, the FA were not made aware of it in time, meaning Ivanovic was available for the trip to Fulham last night. The incident will now be reviewed, with the defender facing a possible three-match ban – he would miss the FA Cup Semi-Final against Spurs, in addition to league clashes with Arsenal and QPR, if found guilty.

Shaun Derry’s appeal over a straight red card received at Old Trafford on Sunday will be heard by the FA this afternoon – the midfielder is hoping his current one-match ban will be overturned, allowing him to be available for Wednesday’s match with Swansea.

Blackburn’s Anthony Modeste lasted just ten minutes of Blackburn’s defeat at West Brom last weekend. The Frenchman – on as a second half sub – was dismissed for violent conduct after lashing out at the Baggies’ Billy Jones and will now sit out the next three matches for Steve Kean’s strugglers.

As mentioned, the yellow card limit has now been extended from 10 to 15 cautions before players receive an automatic ban. No one managed this feat last term, though Cheick Tiote got within touching distance after picking up 14 cautions – this time round, Lee Cattermole is making a decent attempt, with the Sunderland skipper currently sitting on 12 yellows with five Gameweeks remaining. Cattermole seems the likeliest to achieve this, with Blackburn’s Jason Lowe hot on his heels with 11.

Gameweek 33 Bans

  • Shaun Derry – 1 Red for Denying a Goalscoring Opportunity (One-match ban)
  • Mario Balotelli – 1 Red for 2 Yellows (Three-match ban, having previously been dismissed this season)
  • Laurent Koscielny – 1 Yellow took his haul to 10 bookings (Two-match ban)
  • Anthony Modeste – 1 Red for Violent Conduct (Three-match ban)
  • Jose Reina – serving second game of three-match ban.
  • Djibril Cisse – serving third game of four-match ban.

Ive somehow managed to end up with 12 players playing this week. Nice..

Got two frees and want to use one as I will still then have 2 next week..

Thinking of a differential as I have two people creeping up on me in my league.

    My team ATM is:

    Vorm
    Verm, Evans, Mcauley
    Valencia, Walcott, Sig, McClean
    Roon, Yak, RVP

    Krul, Caulker, Cahill, Bale

Baines, Cisse and Dempsey for me

I will keep Bale for DGW as I still have him

Chelsea could be out of the Champions League and the FA cup by GW36 in which case Di Matteo will probably just play his strongest team. Of course they could be in two major finals in which case they will be heavily rotated.

There's a bit of an dispute going on among members of a money league I'm in: what happens if two people finish level on points in a position that pays out? How would you resolve it?

I don't agree with B, a person can use as many transfers as they want as it's in the rules. They either pay the price by taking 4point hits or use their wildcards and free transfers.

I did not take many hits and built up high team value by doing early transfers and watching the price changes.
I got burnt once getting Vidic in just before he got injured in the CL, there was no need for the transfer either.

Yeah, i do early trannies to benefit from price rises as well - rather than waiting until the end of the week. I haven't been burnt though. Yet...

I'm cutting out the points hits one as, although my current team value (£113.2m) is useful, i could have better points scorers with less £, e.g. Siggy instead of Bale, Pisse instead of Ade, etc.

But, my main tactic next season is not to depend on defensive players for points. They rarely get bonus points it is far more productive to get a very good attacking midfield 4/5 and play 3 at the back.

Ha. One of mine would be build MORE team value, by not holding onto crap players for so long (n'zogbai, early season sess and moses), and not being afraid to make an early transfer (unless there are lots of midweek games)

I hate taking £ decreases on players and rarely do it. Although i did do it with Studge - on two seperate occasions...! Saying that I'm now also doing it with Skirts and Enrique - with their DGW coming up and Agger back in the team i have better transfers that need doing.

Be more ruthless in selling players that aren't doing it, especially early on. I stuck with Nzog, Taarabt, Moses etc and lost loads of value on them.

It's much worse losing value on players you've got, than missing out on rises on players you haven't got - each 0.1 drop you lose the full 0.1, but you need a 0.2 rise to make 0.1.

        You are missing the point.

Each 0.1 that you miss out on (in terms of rising), is 0.1 that you need to find. Its exactly the same as a player dropping 0.1!

E.g. If Rooney is 12.0 and I wait until he is 12.1, its exactly the same as if Suarez was 9.5 and dropped to 9.4 (assuming I want to sell Suarez for Rooney, and assuming you bought Suarez for >=9.5)

    To JKISTHE1

Santon should be nailed on for the run in. He is our first choice left back. Our only choice really. He was just taken out of the firing line for a couple of games rest. Since he has been back he has played well and kept two clean sheets.

I was going to get rid for Turner this week so I can play 11, but now i'm thinking i'm better off leaving him, and having an extra DGW player (plus saving a hit)

I had planned on keeping him (have him benched this week and for 34) but he is in my DGW plans, I just wanted to be sure on him

If Kolarov pulls a no-show tomorrow I get Santon off my bench, if he plays he will probs outscore Santon anyway, it's Kolarov, it's an easy route to defensive points.

Baines, Santon and Caulker for DGW it is then.

How many players does that leave you with this week? If I keep him, I only can play 10 this week, but will then need to take a hit to get 7 for the DGW. If I bench him, I can have 8 DGW for no hit.

If our last two fixtures were decent, i would definitely keep. But we play MCY, eve!

I am a bit worried about RVP v Wolves. I did not captain him because I thought:
1 He is out of form and looks tired
2 Great chance for Wenger to rest him, because any Arsenal team could beat Wolves atm.

he can take him off once the game is in the bag, the problem is that chamakh is puffing shisha so that only leaves him with the korean or finally walcott dream becomes true and he gets a game at CF

whats the best option for 36

    3 single players
    vp siggy sessegnon

    2 single players for a 4pt hit
    vp + sess/siggy + any dgw midfielder

    already playing bale dempsey

originally had it on second option with mata but he wont get 180 mins and i cant seem to think of any other player id want...could osman/pienaar outscore sess or siggy?

Chelsea's dgw players attacking wise are more likely to be single week players.
Stevie G might be worth the gamble but with him playing FA Cup there is a high likelihood of him been rested for the DGW.
Pienaar does not play in the cup so he is more likely to play in the DGW, plus he is on form.

Mignolet in goal for GW34, Howard for 36

        I already have caulker

Deciding between rangel (i don't mind doubling up) and turner

Interesting to see what Fergie will do once the title is wrapped up - play the youngsters, or let Rooney go for the Golden Boot (not that Fergie or Rooney will particularly care, no Drogba-style shenanigans at our club...)

I'm thinking of selling RVP for a DGW player and starting Rooney against city, and then Rooney for RVP again in GW37 when the title is (hopefully) wrapped up. Is this foolish? Most people here ssem to be advising to sell Rooney and keep RVP

      Pretty interesting.

I think their away performances has been a major flaw for them, Aguero being their best attacking player has been awful away. I don't rate Dzeko, doesn't fit into the dynamics of their team for me and Balotelli is just sporadic in performances.

United have (pretty much now) won the title and I think they really deserve it to be fair, they've had a good number of injuries but the fact they play more as a team and the fact their players are so dynamic - likes of Rooney being very good at actually going defensive in games an example of that.

City were great to watch at the start of the season though, displayed some truly magnificent football.

mancini has cleared up his balotelli comments.
seems he didn't say he wont play balotelli again this season, more that he thought the FA would give him a ban long enough to essentially rule him out for the season

Could he really get a 9 match ban? If he'd been sent off for the Song challenge, he wouldn't have been around to get the actual sending off.

Taken to it's logical conclusion, Cattermole reffed by Mr Magoo or Graham Poll could be retrospectively banned for the season in 1 match.
