Just the one Premier League to concentrate on this evening, as Blackburn look to battle for points against a Liverpool side desperately looking for a change of fortunes ahead of their FA Cup semi-final with Everton. Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open to welcome your real-time chatter as the game unfolds.

The team news from Ewood is interesting and somewhat predictable. While Steve Kean tinkers by bringing in Mauro Formica and Marcus Olsson for Morten Gamst-Pedersen and Jason Lowe, his opposite number has a different agenda with the weekend cup tie in mind. Kenny Dalglish rests Steven Gerrard from his squad, whilst Luis Suarez is shifted to the bench, allowing Andy Carroll and Craig Bellamy to start up front. Glen Johnson returns to the side, with a left-back role looking likely as Jose Enrique also makes way. He sits alongside Jamie Carragher and Dan Agger as Sebastian Coates starts alongside Martin Skrtel.

Follow the action on your screens with one eye on our Dugout Discussion chat via this link.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone done an end of season predictor?

I just did it, I came to the fact that Bolton and QPR will stay up.

Only fancy bolton for 7 more points (1 v Spurs, 3 v WBA and 3 v Swansea). QPR's was based on them beating Swansea tomorrow and blackburn failing to beat them at the weekend.

Also predicted Wigan to lose their next 3 (United, Arsenal, Fulham) and I don't think that will happen for sure...

The big games for you will blackburn away and wolves at home.

Looking at your past results I can easily see you getting 6 points there. The wolves game will be dodgy though, as they will be already relegated and playing for pride.

Without a doubt. Would be nice to get a point or two...or 6 from Man U and Arsenal but can't see it happening unfortunately.

Fulham and Newcastle better chances, but as you say, Blackburn and Wolves are going to be crucial.

Yeah, I think we've got (funny to say) experience on our side, so used to fighting now we're good at and it turn it up towards the end.

Was in a similar position last year so I'm still full of hope, never over till it's over 😀

Got burned by Santon the last few weeks. I'm going sideways anyway by shipping R Taylor for either of the above.

I'm afraid Santon could have another dodgy patch and start sharing 90 mins with Taylor.

Just need solid players at this stage, no risk of rotation.

    Rooney, RVP
    Dempsey, Kelly, Simpson, Suarez.

£2m banked. 1 free transfer. Wildcard to be played GW36.

They had a decent start to the season. Only up until about 10 games ago they were next to Chelsea arsenal Newcastle... Then they became like wolves.

Sorry misread your question. Proper answer:

          - Suarez has rescued Liverpool alot of times.
          - Sunderland were heading for relegation until they got a new manager (Martin O'Neil) in December who has turned them into a good team, but not in time really to challenge for Europe.
          - Swansea have enjoyed a good run in the second half of the season mainly thanks to Siggy, but they didn't pick up enough point early on in the season
          - And Norwich...I can't really think of a reason for Norwich 😉

      Because they:
1 Brought very badly in the transfer market.
2 Have delusions of grandeur based on past glories. A lucky CL win in 2005 papered over the cracks a while.
3 This year have a lucky League Cup win against far inferior opposition has papered over the cracks again. But the difference is that this time it shows how far shier ambition has fallen.
4 Liverpool are now set to be a mid-table team for a long time.

Europa league places go down to at least at least 9th place this year in the Premier League, regardless of who wins the FA cup.
If Chelsea win the Champions League European places will go down to 10th place that will include Norwich currently.
But it could be anyone from Sunderland, Stoke, West Brom and Swansea.
    That's mental Swansea for Europe!

I meant if Chelsea have already qualified for a europa league place say 5/6 in league and won the CL.
Then there is an extra place and there is also an extra place because Liverpool won the league cup.
If any of the semi finalists win the FA cup more then likely there will be another extra place:

because spurs are bound to be in Europe already, Chelsea will also be in Europe already, Liverpool the same, and Everton might place 6/7 they will already be in Europe.

Am I wrong in my calculations??

          Basically yes.

Only 5th is guaranteed Europa League. Other 2 places go to Carling Cup winner and FA Cup winner. There isn't any additional places.

If FA Cup winner is already in Europe then runner up gets spot. If both are already in, it goes to 6th in the league.

6th is the lowest it can go, so for the 1st time ever I will be cheering on Liverpool come the weekend.

I think you'll find the FA has awarded England's 3 Europa League places as FA Cup winner, League Cup Winner and 5th place in the league. These will only shift down if teams have already qualified for Europe, but will never gain places. The exception is the fair play allocation.

I think the media savvy American owners will have a little sit down with Kenny now and tell him that Sky Sports are here to stay and that he will have to change his demeanour for these interviews from now on, or alternatively just let Clarke handle such stuff the way United used Phelan when Fergie wouldn't talk to the Beeb.
Whatever changes that need to be made at the club (playing personnel wise) over the summer nearly take a back seat now at this stage to the changes that need to be made to Liverpool's worldwide reputation.
The Suarez racism incident was handled dreadfully and the subsequent descent of the team's form, as well as the manager's increased crankiness when dealing with the media are undoubtedly damaging the club.

I hate to say it but the global marketability of a club off the pitch is now of paramount importance to a club to ensure any sort of success on it.

Liverpool have nose-dived in both areas in the last year. Damien Comolli needs to be sacked for the poor signings, not Dalglish.

All Kenny needs is a glamorous, media savvy PR executive.

I would guess 30 million sterling, at most. I can see Reina being sold to up that to maybe 40 million.
That will be the war chest...and Kenny will get one more season, imo. They really need Carroll and Downing to step up to the mark otherwise we're f**ked because no top players will come because of lack of CL football.

Agree with most apart from the signings bit ,dalglish hand picked those players. No doubt there was discussion with camoli but the buy British policy is from dalglish. Think one of the conditions of him returning to management was that he would have more say in the signings they made.

Dalglish was defs involved in the signings, Hodgson got no money to bring anyone in and did a better job (in the league).

          Try this for starters...

Sir Alex Ferguson has reacted to Manchester City questioning his decision to bring Paul Scholes out of retirement by pointing out that their entire club is one big laughing stock.

Patrick Vieira made comments in an interview on Wednesday, just hours before City were minutes away from being humiliated by almost failing to beat Chelsea at home.

          No joke

Ferguson replied, “They give Roberto Mancini hundreds of millions to spend and they end up with Gareth Barry in midfield.

“Then they’re forced to bring back Carlos Tevez.

          “The joke’s on them.”

    Which option do you prefer?

    1) Have Sessegnon for GW 34 and Miyaichi for DGW 35

    OR

    2) Have McClean for GW 34 and Bale GW 35?!?!

      2

Bale > Miyachi even when he's not as on form.

Hmm, it could be close. Most sensible people should wait until next week though.

          Very true 😀

I'm hoping for no rise either, as I'll be doing a straight swap to Walcott and not sure how the finances will work out if he does indeed rise!

Evening all! I'm getting rid of useless Skrtel and Suarez so I have 11 players for GW34.

Suggestions please for a defender and a forward for 15.9million (0.4 bank) combined that are both playing GW34.

    My current thoughts are:
    a) Vermaelen + Bendtner / Dzeko / Holt / Yakubu
    b) Bardsley / McAuley + Aguero
    c) What do you think?

Hmmm I have calculated everything and I don't think it's worth bringing in another cheap defender just to complete the starting XI for gw34 ðŸ˜

    Let's see.

GW34 I bring in Turner and potentially get 6 points.
GW35 I don't have Simpson who is a strong CS candidate (STO), so I potentially lose 4 points (Turner, BAE, Taiwo, Cahill not the best GW35 options).
GW36 I have to do -8 instead of -4 for the same effect!

That's -2 (and I also don't have Simpson for GW36, but pointless defender instead, so I lose another 1-2 pts).

So I am right or am I wrong? And is there anyone else who will play Newcastle defender in GW36 (wig, che)? But even if I don't play Simpson there, it's still -2, unless ofcourse Turner gets a clean sheet and Simpson doesn't, but in reality it's more likely to be the other way around.

I'll likely only play 1 DGW defender, with that defender being Simpson.

Others will probably be Caulker and Vermaelen/Turner.

I'm not too bothered about DGW defenders though, I'm going to just try and a combination of 5 midfielders/forwards playing a DGW.

That's a good point yeah, I was thinking the same, would be totally happy with Simpson if I can pack my midfield and attack, so selling Simpson this week just to get 11 players seems like points lost, not gained in the long run ðŸ˜
