From desperation comes inspiration. If, as Sir Alex intimated, Roberto Mancini’s decision to allow Carlos Tevez back into the fold at Man City really was a last-ditch attempt to revive fortunes, there’s little doubt that it’s had the desired affect. Ferguson will be fidgeting uncomfortably having watched Tevez almost single handedly turn City back into a goal machine in the last two matches, knowing that they’re on a collision course on April 30.

For Fantasy managers, today’s hat-trick, capped with a cheeky assist for the revived Sergio Aguero, offered a stark reminder of the scoring power that Tevez brings. He started the season as a 12.0 player in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, having fired 21 goals and six assists last term – Tevez was and still is a Fantasy heavy-hitter.

Norwich felt the full force this afternoon as the Argentine inspired City, having re-ignited Mancini’s side in midweek in the 4-0 win over West Brom. Suddenly, having recently struggled for a cutting edge, particularly away from home, City are a free flowing attacking force once again. Aguero’s brace of goals today were his first league strikes away from the Etihad since that win at Old Trafford. With four in two matches, he’s now firmly back on the radar and could upset what looked like an established front three template of Van Persie/Rooney/Cisse for the remaining Gameweeks.

Arguably Tevez makes a bigger claim for our attention. We took a punt on him over Aguero in the Scout Picks having seen his statistics and form in his recent cameos and knowing his quality home and away. Tevez has come back and, once again, looked like scoring and setting up goals: today that came to fruition.

The Fantasy prospects of both Tevez and Aguero now, ironically, rest with United and the title race. A slip against Villa tomorrow looks unlikely but with City flexing their muscles in such intimidating style, the pressure on United has increased. Realistically, City will go to a beleaguered Wolves next weekend hoping that a stubborn Everton side can recover from today’s FA Cup disappointment and provide an awkward obstacle at Old Trafford. Then it’s all down to the clash at the Etihad that follows.

City need to stay in touch for Fantasy managers to invest with confidence – to sacrifice a double Gameweek transfer for either Tevez or Aguero for the Gameweek 36 trip to Molineux would be a brave move – a break from the best laid plans. However, as today demonstrated, Aguero’s form has moved up a gear and the talent of Tevez looks to have been the catalyst. Together they could yet play a major part in our Fantasy seasons and a title race which appears to be far from over.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Thank you Bendy!

    You have served me well. For blocking Cisse's hauls. For the lovely 2 points. For messing up all the throughballs that Sess provides you. Not least for the extra 0.1 million that you will provide tomorrow.

    Thank you Bendy!

      Haven't seen it and although people suggest he should get it, I hope he doesn't.

      If they're going to stick with original bad decisions (Dempsey and Anichebe goals last week), then they should at least be consistent with it.

      I haven't seen it yet, but why not a Siggy goal, by the same logic that made it a Dempsey goal last week? In box > Shot off target > Hits defender > Becomes on target / Goes in.

      Some rules for this wouldn't be a bad idea next year, instead of making it up as they go along.

        They're not making them up as they go along. The rules are clear. It was an assist for Siggy.

        Dempsey's goal last week was given because the decision was so marginal the dubious goals committee didn't review it. So therefore it stood as originally called. That had nothing really to do with the actual FPL rules.

    Resteady 😛

    ok time to move on to next week. Given I only get 10 out this week, not much I can do, what happens, happens.

    My current team for GW35

    De Gea

    Verm, Evans, Kolarov, Santon

    Bale, Siggy, Walcott

    Cisse, Rooney, RvP

    Mingolet, Caulker, Sess, McClean

    2FTs, 1.1 in the bank

    am thinking of starting my DGW prep by swapping Rooney and Sess for Dempsey and Jelavic, and playing 4-4-2 this week. Could punt on Weimann for DGW, but needs a hit to get him out. Or I can dump De Gea for Friedel, Howard or Krul.

            yeah but who of Huth or Freidel do I take a 4 pointer for. Also is he likely to start both games?

            Kolarov was one failed punt too far.

            My plan was for an 8 pointer

            De Gea, Evans, Kolarov to Friedel, Baines and Huth. I'd have to add Weimann to Jelavic for that llst unless I dump Kolarov or De Gea this week.

              The only thing stopping me is fear over whether he will play both games.

              If its a choice between playing 3-4-3 with a DGWer and 4-4-2 with no DGWer I'd strongly consider gambling on an extra hit.

              Understand that you may be reluctant after our Kolarov mishap though.

    Mark, under the rules of the game Siggy will get the assist and the Dempsey assist against Stoke a while ago backs this up. Do you think you could add a comment to the article about it?

    The amount of posts on whether he will or won't get an assist when he clearly will become an eyesore about 5 pages back.

    What is best?

    a) Dempsey + Rangel -----> Sigurdsson + Baines

    b) Dempsey + Rangel -----> Sigurdsson + Vermaelen

    c) Dempsey + P Cisse -----> Sigurdsson + Aguero

    Fair play to City and Tevez, when all is said and done they got him to apologize, he's back, and he's paying them back. I still think he's a d*ck, but he's a useful d*ck and not too nasty on the pitch at least.

    Over to his actual football, his position is intriguing. He's playing in the hole and is the link between midfield and attack. By playing centrally he's freed both Silva and Nasri to do damage out wide. You can't mark them all.

      Nasri's stats were poor - no shots on goal and only one key pass.

      At least Silva got a shot on target and 6 key passes.

        Yup, but certainly in the previous match they both filled their boots, and you can still contribute to the team by distracting defenders. The point is that Tevez's addition makes the whole City attack another degree harder to defend against - looks like the change is overwhelming defences right now.

    From the BBC

    'Signing Gylfi' is likely to be Swansea City's priority in the transfer market this summer, but do the Welsh side have any chance of getting the on-loan Icelandic star on a permanent basis from his German side Hoffenheim?

    Sigurdsson, who scored the seventh goal of his short spell at Swansea in their impressive win over Blackburn today, suggested he is enjoying life in South Wales, but says his future is out of his hands.

    "It's hard for me to say," Sigurdsson said. "Because I've got a couple of seasons left on my contract. It's up to whoever's in charge to talk to Hoffenheim. I just want to play football and if it's here then I am happy."

    So sad for Swansea but it looks like he's definitely off.

      Sigurðsson's being a bit disingenuous there. He spoke to Hoffenheim last week, when coach Markus Babbel rang him up to ask him about his future plans. No comments on their discussion were released by either side, but it's believed that Sigurðsson indicated that he didn't wish to return to Hoffenheim, although the German club want him back.

      Hoffenheim confirmed this week that no English club have yet made an official approach for Sigurðsson.
