With just four weeks of the season left, desperation is starting to kick in. In Wigan’s case, that desperation seems to have spurred them on to go all out and produce their best football of the season, but for many Fantasy managers battling the odds in their own (equally important) leagues, that desperation needs a huge dollop of luck to go with it. A 50 point gap is not unassailable yet, but picking the same players from the same teams just won’t cut it; it’s time to wheel out the previously unthinkable, the outrageously risky and the downright unexpected…

David Dunn

There’s no greater motivator than the threat of relegation, and after watching Wigan and QPR pick up some unexpected points recently, Blackburn will be scrambling to turn around their fortunes in a similar fashion. Norwich rock up to Ewood Park this weekend having already secured their premier league status, and fellow strugglers Wigan visit two weeks later – the feeling is that it is probably now or never for Steve Kean’s men and the likes of Yakubu, Hoilett and David Dunn will all be instrumental if they are to pull off a great escape.

Fantasy football veterans will be more than familiar with Dunn’s frustratingly inconsistent returns. Capable of pulling off a bumper haul if you catch him in a burst of form, the downside is the succession of niggling injuries that seem to plague the 32-year-old. With just four matches remaining, however, Dunn seems to be coming into form at just the right time and at his price of 6.2 and 0.2% ownership, we reckon the tricky midfielder is worth a punt despite the risks.

Tomas Rosicky

Arsenal’s Renaissance man Tomas Rosicky epitomises the recent revival in his club’s fortunes; after spending 20 months out with a tendon problem, it was feared that Rosicky would never return to the same level but the Czech schemer has been back to his glorious best in recent games. As Arsenal’s best player against Wigan, Rosicky would probably have been a shoo-in for this weekend’s tie anyway, but with Mikel Arteta ruled out for the season and Yossi Benayoun ineligible to play against his parent club then he will surely be nailed on for the central role.

Chelsea will arrive at the Emirates just three days after a draining Champions league tie spent chasing the ball around their own half, and despite the recent resurgence under their new manager, Arsenal look like strong favourites to pick up the points. Another eight goal thriller would be a bit much to ask for, but if goals do arrive then Rosicky could prove to be huge differential considering his current price of 5.7, and low ownership of 1.2%.

Stephen Ireland

Villa can perhaps be forgiven their poor form considering their recent opponents, but this week is a huge test – Sunderland and Bolton park up at Villa Park having conceded 14 and 11 goals in their last five away games, and despite Villa recent impotence in front of goal, you have to fancy them to pick up at least a couple across the two games.

As the first name on the City team sheet (and many Fantasy football managers too) during the 08/09 season, Stephen Ireland’s decline has been pretty spectacular, scraping together just 555 minutes of play last season without a single goal or assist. The potential is always there however, and with a regular starting role in his preferred position behind the striker, he looks the pick of the Villa players right now considering his low price of just 5.2.

Wait a sec! Wasn't there a clause which stated that if either don't start one of the games, the bet is off? Though, I guess both of us agree they were both #fail bandwagons.

no, only injury ENR. i promise you that. the idea that pilkington could be dropped is part of the reason i was touting ryo so much. best 5.0 or under option at that time. now yes ryo hasnt lit the world on fire, but he has value as a 5th mid. also remember i said anyone but siggy too. 😉 i knew what i was doing!!!

Baines might be an issue if he is out for the season.

Who would you rather bring in for Walcott this week, Bale or VDV? Or is there a better transfer out there I could make?

    Bogdan
    Kompany, JEvans, Skrtel

I did, but I think I've made the decision to only bring in DGWers for this and next week. Yes Silva has wol this week, but MUN and new are tough games straigh afterwards, whereas Bale/VDV have qpr, BLA/bol, avl

Probably A, and not just because of my grav

Pienaar seems sure to figure in both of Everton's fixtures in 36, and Arsenal has much tougher opposition over 35,36. Would rather give up Walcott from lineup than Valencia, although I think people have had inflated opinion of Valencia (take out his results against Blackburn, Wolves, Wigan and you have fairly average results for the remainder of season against reasonable opposition, nothing to get excited about)

Pienaar is a massive differential these days. Extra game in GW36. Would mean I would play Sess probably over Pienaar but not necessary. Take your point with Valencia. Have no idea what to do.

I'm with you on needing at least 10 points. We just have to start scoring goals. Its two years later and its still the same problem: always vastly the better team, with no means of finishing. Adebayor is just another great playmaker with no finsihing ability. Sadly, we already had 5 of those on our team already.

I'm actually not too worried about it. Baines is pretty overrated as a defender. Neville's definsive instincts are just as good, imo. As long as Jagielka is there, and Distin has gotten his one terrible error out of the way, I'm not worried.

By the way, you dashed off before we agreed to terms on that bet. Gravitar change?

I didn't answer cos its a good dilemma.

But I'm convinced it's way too risky benching Verm over anyone. He's scored more goals than RVP in the last 6 games. I'd still play Bog over Vorm cos he usually accumulates save points and you'd think that could account for Vorm's CS (if any).

Walc or Val is a nightmare. Both are game-changers that would be crucial to their team's performance over the weekend. If you've shipped out Roo out, I suggest starting Val.

I did. (and already regret it) I just kinda think Walcott will mince your boys up tomorrow.

I guess part of my problem is that I see Everton as a really tough defense to break, when they may not be. Its just hard to picture Valencia going nuts. could be wrong ,of course.

Yeah, I know, I'm sorry. But lat week I decided that finishing 4,999 was the same as finishing 1001, and that I needed to start to take risks if I'm ever gonna make the top 1k. That said, keeping Rooney was safer, in hindsight.

Your point about Chelsea is fair. May do Valencia just to hedge bets.

Valencia has only gone nuts once against a quality team this year, I believe. I hope I'm not in error in counting Everton as a quality team.

I think they are quality, too. I certainly think their defense is better than Chelseas. I just don't know.

My current dilemma is bench Walcott or bench Bale. Don't really like either of them to produce. Chelsea tougher than QPR, but Bale not doing a lot recently either.

I actually think I might take the risk and go without the Swans boys. Bogdan should do fine with his two games, and Verm just isn't benchable right now, imo.

As for the last one, my gut says Walcott, but coverage wise, Valencia is the safer.

      Vorm vs Bogan.

I would select Bogdan......Imo you are guarenteed 4 pts.

Verm over Caulker....Drogba out....torres will miss 3 open nets.

      Play Walcott over Valencia.

    Hey there,
My current team for this week is

    Given
    Evans Wheater Simpson
    Bale Valencia Siggy Toure
    RvP Rooney Aguero

    Vorm BAE McClean McAuley

Can't afford Dempsey easily. Would toure to Ben arfa be a good move? Or just leave as is?

    Evening/Morning my fellow deadzoners.

About to transfer in Dempsey.....for who? That is my question,

    1. Sess
    2. Valencia

Both are likely to get transfered out next week. So it is merely a question for GW35.

Gotta be Sess, Valencia is always involved in Utds goals. Also more to play for than Sess.

Deadzone primetime in Arizona as well.

Gonna be a bit contrarian here and argue that for next two weeks I'd rather have Sess.
        1. Easier opposition (Villa and Bolton) than ManU faces (Everton/City)
        2. Huge part of Valencia's point haul has been against really crap teams and he has only had one really good total against a quality team.

Dempsey is always involved. He has really been finding open space. I do not buy the Pog factor.

I am on RVP at the moment.....@ home with loads to play for. Knackered CHE should conceed at least 2. THe only thing that makes me hesitant in that Arteta is injured. Everything seems to go thorough him. Really tough call this week.

    My team as it stands….
    Vorm
    verm, jevans bardsley
    Siggy dempster theo val
    Cisse tevez (c) rvp

    friedel caulker mcclean Kelly
    0FT 4.2m in the bank

Don’t fancy caulker nor bardsley this week and am playing Vorm over friedel.
Very tempted to do bardsley > cuellar for -4 hit. Can see a min of 1 cs and some baps. Rivals have Collins. Simpson is a good shout too but not sure about dgw cs.
