Among the eight teams to play twice during Gameweek 36, Stoke are by far the least prolific in terms of attacking potential. Having netted just 32 times thus far, Tony Pulis’ side sit firmly at the foot of the “Goals Scored” table with four matches left to play.

It is a statistic that will hardly fill Fantasy managers with confidence as they eye up the Potters ahead of the upcoming double Gameweek, but a closer look at Stoke’s home and away record shows there is still hope among their red and white striped ranks.

The Prospects

Home clashes during Gameweek 36, against an Arsenal team looking to secure third spot and a resurgent Everton, are not the easiest games on paper. The key aspect here, though, is not the opposition but the fact that Pulis’ side play both their games at the Britannia. Stoke’s poor goal tally can largely be put down to their woeful away record – of their 32 goals, 21 have been in front of their home fans, as have six of their nine clean sheets.

Arsenal are also enduring something of a slump, giving investors in Stoke’s ranks further hope. Arsene Wenger’s side have won just two of their last five matches and in Gameweek 35 were left frustrated during a 0-0 draw against a patched up Chelsea team with one eye on this week’s Champions League semi-final clash with Barcelona. With Robin Van Persie scoring only once in his last seven, hopes of a clean sheet for Stoke against the Gunners are perhaps better than previously anticipated, although their strikers may face a tough time – Arsenal have returned five clean sheets in their last seven matches.

Stoke defenders face a far sterner test against Everton, who are quite simply rampant in front of goal right now, scoring 14 in their last five matches. During this recent run, the Toffees have also managed to keep three clean sheets but have shipped six goals, giving the Potters’ attackers a sliver of hope.

The Likely Lads

With nine goals to his name thus far, the 6.1 priced Peter Crouch is Stoke’s main attacking threat. Five of those have come at home, including his goal of the season strike against Manchester City in Gameweek 30. With four assists and 14 bonus points this season he offers the chance of further points over the two games – it’s also worth noting that Crouch has scored in three of his last four at the Britannia.

Elsewhere in midfield, Stoke’s tricky wingers – Matthew Etherington and Jermaine Pennant, with six assists each, are also worth considering. Etherington, at 6.5, with three goals and 15 bonus points, is perhaps the more consistent of the pair, though Pennant, who is priced at 5.6, has been in decent form of late, providing an assist in three of his last four appearances. If he shake off the virus that forced him to remain on the bench for last week’s trip to Newcastle, he could produce.

Stoke’s defence is perhaps where the shrewdest Fantasy managers will cast their gaze and, in particular, the attacking strength offered by 5.6 priced Robert Huth. The German has been in solid form of late, scoring in two of his last three games and also picking up four bonus, for an average of seven points per game – all this without a clean sheet in that run of matches. Ryan Shawcross, who has a 5.3 price tag, is another to consider. The Potters’ skipper seems more likely to earn bonus points – he has 13 compared to Huth’s seven.

Among Premier League goalkeepers, the risk of rotation perhaps hangs heaviest over Stoke’s. Currently Asmir Begovic is the main contender but Thomas Sorenson is always looming in the wings, with Tony Pulis having a track record of showing no mercy at switching his options between the posts if the form drops. Despite this threat, the 4.5m priced Begovic, with 81 points and five bonus points remains the best Stoke purchase between the sticks. The fact that the Bosnian has started the last nine offers a little more confidence for his Fantasy suitors.

Cheeky Punt

There was a time earlier this season when Stoke’s penalty-taking forward Jon Walters was an almost essential pick, due to his listing in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) as a midfielder. The Irishman has fallen by the wayside over the last few months, though – with the last of his five goals coming in Gameweek 19, it’s something of an understatement to say Walters is woefully out of form. Despite this, his spot kick duties plus his five assists, 10 bonus points and 6.0 price tag cannot be completely dismissed.

Moses' games in gw37/38 are awesome

        Jellyshish to Aggy is OK.

True, the out-going players could do well - Sigurdsson especially. But ACole has fitness issues, Aguero has a tough game, and Moses faces a trip to one of the league's best defences. So I wouldn't be too distraught at risking transfering them out given those that are coming in. Tight call though...

NO FFFFin idea :D, I personally have the same problem. I plan on moving away from my 4 Bayern players and getting in Real or Barca players. Purely because of the home game.

Hits aren't advised at this stage but I can't resist taking a couple. 2 Barca and 1 Real in for 2 Chelsea and 1 Bayern.

Basically take a massive punt on captain tomorrow when you get the line ups, then if it fails, stick it on Ronaldo/Benzema on Wednesday

Overall Barca will win, Real Bayern will be close, but tight.
Stock up on Barca players imo. Triple defence

To be fair, if you're on your W/C you may as well go balls-out and stick 11 DGW players out there and this Gameweek would likely be Siggy's final hurrah with man, LIV coming up.

Would definitly try and squeeze Rooney in though. You'll want him in 37.

Defoe if this Adebayor bust-up rumour proves to be true (sounds a biy fishy to me, though). Cabaye over Gutierrez, Guti and Tiote play more defensive midfield. Would definitely go for Pienaar over Fellaini, differential or not.

I had the exact same choice in my GW12 wildcard. Went with BAE, just because Walker was more expensive at the time...their PPI numbers were very similar at the time and I got lucky when BAE had a great streak.
Walker could easily outscore BAE now that the roles are reversed price-wise.
So, in conclusion, there is no real answer, sorry 😉

Not with the team as it is but I could adapt it to include him. Do you think he's essential? I think that all the games left will be tight, nervous affairs and in these scenarios Rooney seems to drop very deep. I don't expect another big haul from him - plus I've just gotten rid so it would cost me extra

Without doubt get rid of Suarez, I'm baffled as to why anyone is still holding onto him. Also, go for Jelavic over Crouch. VDV and Cech are great calls imo

Jelavic.. I never even considered him.. seems a much better choice than Crouch really. I'm doing this, Thanks buddy.

No problemo, good fixtures after the double gameweek too so you shouldn't have to use any precious transfers on getting him out

I still have Suarez. He's going to become Jelavic this week because he definitely won't play Vs Fulham in the 2nd DGW game

So then, these Ade bust up rumours.

Where have they come from? Just spread like wildfire for no reason on here or is there a link?

Evil plot concocted by the one guy who has Ade and wants everybody else to drop him... (honestly, though, I haven't seen a source cited)

haha I think the evil plot idea might actually be right. Well Ade will be in my team anyway unless I see something concrete.

Was leaning that way for my move for this week, but then Theo got hurt and I needed to replace him for my move for this week

I don't think you need loads, but you probably want to make sure you've got a decent amount of DGW mids and attackers. I wouldn't go out of your way to sort out DGW defence.

Set on Demps/Bale/Barfa/Pienaar/Cisse at present. Keeping Siggy for home start vs Wolves as fifth mid. Also have Roo/RVP, and probably sitting RVP for his trip to Stoke. Unsettled a bit yet, though.

Would love it if someone could RMT for GW36:

    Krul
    Simpson, N Taylor, Vermaelen
    McClean, Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Bale
    Aguero, Rooney, Jelavic

    Subs: Vorm, Valencia, Turner, Evans

    Thanks in advance! 🙂

          Hey, DaveMC23,

How many more Double Gameweek players would you suggest I need? Worth taking more than a 4pt hit to get any more in? If so, who would you suggest? Thanks.

I'd be looking at getting rid of McClean (For Ben Arfa maybe) and possibly getting another DGW attacker possibly for Rooney. You can bring him back the following week anyway.

Have you got any Free Transfers? I should say that, now in my 3rd year of FPL, I never normally advise taking hits. However, if you are chasing a lead you may have to throw caution to the wind. Does the budget stretch to Rooney & McClean > VDV and Cisse (if you can't afford this maybe Pienaar instead of VDV)

      Most clean sheets in GW36-38?
Bolton, Chelsea (can double up on Chelsea with Terry), Everton, Fulham, Stoke. Liverpool, Tottenham (already have Krul, Simpson, Cisse for Newcastle)?

I like Jags because Fulham on road, Stoke, and Wolves seem like strong candidates for CS.

I didn't even realise it was gone until you said.

They probably just made a mistake putting it there in the first place and have corrected it.

Evil conspiracy, this time by those who are trying to get everybody to dump Caulker in advance of a three goal outburst from the back this next week against Wolves
