Papiss Cisse steals the show with a pair of outrageous finishes at the Bridge. Alan Pardew opts for a 4-4-2 as Newcastle pick up yet another clean sheet, while Chelsea taste defeat at home for the first time under Roberto Di Matteo. Emmanuel Adebayor bags a brace at Bolton, with Rafael Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale both getting amongst the points, as Spurs deliver a huge blow to the Trotters’ survival hopes:

Papiss Cisse
Having twice hit the woodwork at Wigan last weekend, the Newcastle forward returned to goalscoring ways in sensational style at the Bridge last night. Partnered by Demba Ba up top in a switch to 4-4-2, Cisse grabbed two goals of the highest quality as Alan Pardew’s side picked up their seventh win in the last eight to boost their chances of a fourth place finish. Cisse has now scored 13 times in just 12 appearances since moving to Tyneside in January and, with a pair of assists and 20 bonus points also thrown in for good measure, has averaged a sensational 8.4 points per game thus far, way ahead of second placed Robin Van Persie’s 7.0. The transfers in will continue to roll, although Cisse’s final two games are far from straightforward – City arrive on Sunday having returned three clean sheets in four, while a Gameweek 38 trip to Goodison could prove tricky; Everton have picked up seven clean sheets in their last eight at home.

Newcastle Defence
With Danny Simpson missing out for the first time this season, James Perch slotted into the right-back role last night. Bearing in mind that Chelsea had hit six past QPR on Sunday and Newcastle had been thrashed 4-0 at Wigan, an away clean sheet was perhaps unexpected, but the Magpies once again excelled at the back, returning their sixth clean sheet in the last eight Gameweeks. Pardew’s side now welcome Man City to the Sports Direct Arena on Sunday and, given the Magpies’ form at both ends of the pitch, Roberto Mancini’s men will need to deliver a big performance if they are to remain on course for the title.

Rafael Van der Vaart
The Dutchman picked up where he left off against Blackburn on Sunday as Spurs swept aside Bolton at the Reebok. Van der Vaart had grabbed a goal and a couple of bonus points at the Lane in the first match of his double Gameweek and followed that up with a goal, an assist and X bonus points last night. After a barren winter period, he’s been a crucial part on Spurs’ push for fourth with three goals in his last seven starts– with a trip to Villa up next before a home game against Fulham to see out the season, Van der Vaart looks in the mood to rack up more points before the campaign comes to a close.

Gareth Bale
While his goalless streak may have extended to 12 games last night, Bale picked up a couple of assists against the Trotters. With an assist also provided against Blackburn, the Welshman returned a respectable 14 point score for his Fantasy owners over the double Gameweek. Bale has now closed the gap on Clint Dempsey at the top of the midfield rankings; he’s now just 11 points behind the Fulham man and, with those above-mentioned fixtures to follow, is afforded a chance to perhaps overtake Dempsey as the pair go head to head at the Lane in Gameweek 38.

Emmanuel Adebayor
There’s no doubt the on-loan forward can be a frustrating Fantasy option. Adebayor arrived at the Reebok having scored in just one of the previous nine Gameweeks but found his scoring touch to grab a couple of goals against Owen Coyle’s strugglers. The fourth top scoring forward to date this term, he’s still owned by less than 10% of Fantasy managers despite the fact that Adebayor, with 15 goals and 12 assists, has had a hand in more goals for Harry Redknapp’s side than any other player.

Help please! Wildcarded last week and it paid off, I’m top of my money league for the first time this year and leading by 17 points before bonus. Already transfer in Moses for HBA to catch the price rise and kind of starting to regret it. Rival ( http://fantasy.premierleague.c.....s/history/ ) has made his transfer and I’m pretty sure he has got in Rooney for Defoe, because I am 90% sure he had 5.0 in the bank but also may have had 5.2 and transferred in RVP. Either way what should I do? Get one of them in for Aguero for a 4 pointer or hope for the best? And who do I play this week? Currently got Peinaar on the bench but doesn’t seem right. Please help!

Yeah, thought Aguero ➡ Rooney/RVP would be a bit sideways and not worth a 4 pointer. Good shout on Bale on the bench as Villa are fighting for survival and I already have VDV and Walker 😀

    Good Morning all 🙂

Closed the gap in my league to 10pts now, VDV (c) was worth the gamble. Any thoughts on where I should use my 1FT, got 3.6m in the bank.

    Mignolet
    Kompany, Vermaelen, Evans
    Dempsey, VDV, Bale, Valencia
    RVP(vc), Jelavic(c), Cisse

    Vorm, Siggy, Turner, Enrique

    My thoughts are transferring -

Vorm > De Gea, Al-Habsi, Hart or Szezesney
Enrique > Walker, Huth, Evra or Caldwell
Siggy > Moses, Pienaar or Toure

    Krul (Vorm)

    Kompany Evra Verm Hibbert (Caulker)

VDV Demps Valencia Pienaar (Ben Arfa)

    Cisse Aguero Jelly

got one free tx and 2.5M in the bank

One or two players from promoted teams won't do you harm (like Swansea defender this year or Carroll and Adam the season before), but they should work more like a tricky sub than a reliable starter in the early days.

What is the chance of two of Cahill, Terry and Evans to play this week? Trying to plan some transfers and assess whether I need to sort out my defence.

Any ideas on what to do with this lot?

    Al Habsi (Vorm)
    Terry, Cahill, Evans (Williamson Turner)
    VDV, Dempsey, Mata, HBA (Siggy)
    Aguero, Jelavic, Cisse

    Considering Vermaelan,Nani/Valencia, Rooney,
RVP, Moses. Big cash in bank 1 ft

(see above) I would wait till the end of the week for news on Evans and Cahill and then reevaluate. If either is out definitely consider Vermaelen. Otherwise I would only consider Siggy->Moses (I will probably be doing that move) and possibly Cisse->RvP (Norwich is weak and Cisse cant always bang in these beauties - especially unlikely against a resilient Man City defence).

I think you're right - I'm not a Bogdan owner but watched the game and counted about 5 saves - so not sure why he's only credited as 2. Does the double save from Bale/VDV in the first half count as 1 or 2 saves?

If double saves don't count it seems a bit silly. If he saved the first but not the second then surely he would still be credited with a save.

It was said many times that BBC also count crosses and shots easy for the goalkeeper to save. FPL takes only the challenging ones into consideration.

      From BBC live text:

35:25 Rafael Van der Vaart takes a shot. Save made by Adam Bogdan.

34:42 Younes Kaboul takes a shot. Blocked by Adam Bogdan.

11:12 Gareth Bale takes a shot. Save by Adam Bogdan. Rafael Van der Vaart takes a shot. Blocked by Adam Bogdan.

There you go - 2 saves, 2 blocks. They've also ignored the one in the last minute when Ricketts deflected Bale's cross on to him (90:00 +2:23 Gareth Bale sends in a cross, clearance by Samuel Ricketts.) - that one should have gone down as a save.

I think retrospectively he may get another point.

I think it may be down to who in the Press Association is making up the live text. I notice Friedel got a 'block' in too, but neither Cech or Krul got any blocks, just 'saves'. Surely a block by the goalkeeper is a save?

I'm still gonna do that transfer. But i don't get why you have done it so early? Price increases won't have an affect on your team surely, being that there are only 2 GW's left?

    Mignolet
    Kelly Verm Evans
    VdV Bale Dempsey Valencia
    Cisse Jelavic RvP(c)

    Sub: simpson siggy caulker

what would you do with this team?
thinking of doing Cisse>Rooney. Other option Siggy>Nani with bale on the bench

Mignolet may not play, but perhaps you don't want to waste your transfer on GK, who rarely are explosive scorers.

I'm doing: Aguero -> RVP and if I go for a hit, I'll change Jelavic for Rooney.
