Twist. One day down in Matchday Three and, in armband terms, it’s been a bitter disappointment for Fantasy managers. We placed our faith in the likes of Alan Dzagoev, Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Blaszczykowski but the trio not only let us down, they now wave farewell to the tournament after this evening’s pair of unexpected results.

With the Czech Republic winning Group A and Greece finishing second, there’s plenty of tinkering required with our knockout wildcards now as we rid our teams of Russians and Poles. On to tomorrow, then, as we eye up the likely captaincy contenders:

With Germany needing only a draw against Denmark to confirm their position as Group B winners, many are unsure over a starting role for Mario Gomez. The Bayern man has already grabbed three goals and is expected to be heavily backed for the armband, though some may take a sneaky punt on Miroslav Klose in the hope that Joachim Low tinkers with his front line. Mesut Ozil will be hoping to get amongst the points after a slow start to the tournament, while owners of Thomas Muller and Lukas Podolski will be hoping the pair aren’t subject to rotation, with the likes of Andreas Schurrle and Marco Reus ready-made replacements.

For the Danes, Michael Krohn-Deli has been their most consistent Fantasy asset – he has picked up attacking returns in each of his first two games and currently sits on 13 points in the McDonald’s game. Nicklas Bendtner’s brace against Portugal brings the Arsenal man under consideration, while Christian Eriksen’s creative spark should be crucial to Denmark’s cause.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed chance after chance in the Denmark game but will relish the prospect of taking centre stage against Holland – the 11.0 priced forward still looks a strong prospect and is a guaranteed starter for the encounter with Bert Van Marwijk’s men. Nani and Helder Postiga have both outscored the Real Madrid maestro thus far and, up against a shaky Dutch backline, look decent differentials, with 3.8% and 0.3% ownership respectively.

While a win against Portugal may still not be enough to secure their progress, Holland’s final group game looks at the very least a face-saving exercise after a dismal start to their campaign. A shift in formation for the second half against Germany may hint at what’s to come – Robin Van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben look the stand-out candidates here, while a starting role for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could be on the cards if Van Marwijk chooses to operate with a front two this time round.

Might be a silly question but have you saved that team as your new team to try and benefit from double price rises?

Not really played much fantasy before is it worth bringing in the likes of jiracek even if I ha e no intention of keeping him just in case I can make .1 off him?

I've done lots of theorizing for the QFs and how to play it from here on in and here's what I've concluded.

    7.0 keeper 4.0
    Good defenders, 4.0 (Maniatis)
    Stock up on awesome midfielders
    Gomez ??? 4.0 striker

The striker position is by far the most pricy, and since so many teams play only 1 striker, having more than 2 slots isn't very beneficial.

Just my theory, I could be all wrong, but here's how I think it maximizes your chances of having full and high scoring teams.

Surely with the Czechs through as winners you would want limbersky, pilar as cheap options especially as they have a real chance of getting to the semis now assuming Holland don't somehow pull it out the bag.

Sifakis, limbersky, manitas and pilar already in my draft. All super cheap and nailed on.

Wait til the semi finals to see how your team looks then...

You only have 4 for the final, and unless you have 3 4.0s in there including keeper, you won't be able to afford anyone decent.

I would only have one of those cheap defenders.

Defenders are going to be some of the strongest scorers for the end, and the only way you'll be able to field 11 for a final between Spain and Germany is by having at least 4 defenders in.

We're talking straight swaps here too.

You do the math, you're tipping two teams in the semi finals to progress to the final. That means that last slot will more than likely be wasted on a 9.5m striker who will be shut out unless you double on one team like Germany which is risky to say the least.

        It makes a difference.

Ok cool i can see where your coming from in some respects, your saying the strategy is to have a sustainable team in place in as much as you can straight swap big hitter for big hitter without having to make the extra transfer to free another defensive spot, correct?

I think pilar, limb, jiracek, maniatas and sifakis could all double rise before quarters kick off as people try to get in the cheap options you will no doubt need. I'm putting them all in for now in the hope of catching rises, nothing to lose imo as long as you are only taking out people who have already risen for you.

hard to say who will rise, but leaders of transfers in at the moment (that are still in it) are:

      Neuer 552
      Andersen 367
      Buffon 308

      Lescott 707
      Bonucci 580
      Selassie 512
      Hummels 506
      Debuchy 498

      Pilar 976
      Schwein 825
      Pirlo 786
      Cabaye 690
      Mandz 620

      Gomez 1224
      Torres 1196

So I would guess Neuer, Lescott, Pilar, maybe Schwein, Gomez and Torres, but not sure what the math is on the rising threshold
