So…is 12 points enough? That’s the question the majority of Fantasy managers are asking themselves after Cristiano Ronaldo notched the only goal of the game this evening to earn Portugal a place in the semi-finals at the expense of Czech Republic.

It’s on to tomorrow now, with Germany the red-hot favourites to see off Greece and join Paulo Bento’s side in the semi-finals, where they will face either England or Italy. We’ve rolled out the Captain Poll and, with Fantasy managers now swithering whether to stick or twist, there are a host of options available amongst the Group B winners’ first XI.

Mario Gomez looks the stand-out contender for Joachim Low’s side. The Bayern Munich forward is the only German to have picked up attacking returns in all three of his appearances, with a couple of goals and an assist to his name thus far. Mesut Ozil’s role in “the hole” has created chance aplenty but to date, he’s picked up just a single assist thus far – will tomorrow finally deliver the display his manager reckons is imminent?

Elsewhere amongst the German side, Bastian Schweinsteiger is second only to Gomez for points accrued; a couple of assists and two extra points for recovered balls has helped him to a 15 point haul. Lukas Podolski opened his account against Denmark in Germany’s final group game and will be looking to maintain his upturn in form, while Thomas Muller looks a real differential candidate – the Bayern man has yet to pick up any attacking points and resultantly has less than 6% ownership but, as his displays at the 2010 World Cup confirmed, he’s more than capable of producing for the national side.

It’s little wonder Greece are rank outsiders. Fernando Santos’ side are devoid of their skipper and playmaker Giorgos Karagounis due to suspension, while none of their forwards have returned more than nine points in the McDonald’s game to date. Having failed to score more than a single goal in any of their Group A matches, their chances of breaching the favourites’ backline more than once looks unlikely. Dimitrios Salpingidis and Theofanis Gekas have grabbed a goal apiece along with the banned Karagounis – the aforementioned forward duo should carry the threat tomorrow evening then, along with Giorgos Samaras.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Not sure if anyone does the Sun Dreamteam , but ructions on the Fiso website tonite.
Just have a look at the sun ratings for Portugal game. They gave Starman to Merelies ! A rating of 9 out of 10 . Ronaldo had 8 , Cech had a 6 !
Just had a big wake up call why NEVER EVER. To play the sun game again !

Moutinho and Meireles are decent players but not in the same league as other mids at this tournament. They're not fit to lace the boots of Rui Costa and Paulo Sousa

    Gomez or Podolski?

Me and one other are miles clear in our mini league and he has Gomez but not Podolski. Assuming he goes for Gomez (c) then should I play it safe and follow him or go for glory with Podolski?

I would go Gomez and cut him off. If he scores well you could lose out. Podolski's points are exclusive to you so the best way to gain is to go Gomez.

    Captain dilemma equation.........

    CR7 = 6pts double = 12 pts TOTAL 12PTS
    Twist
POOR TWIST CR7 = 6pts + AN Other that Flops 2pts double = 4pts TOTAL 10PTS BUT if stuck would have scored 12+2=14 LOSS OF 4 POINTS

GOOD TWIST CR7 = 6pts + AN Other BRACE 10pts double = 20pts TOTAL 26PTS BUT if stuck would have scored 12+10=22 GAIN OF 4 POINTS

So..............lets stop the BIG question it is hardly worth mulling over its a swing of 4 points* generally so unless your winning a Cash league JUST DO IT!! Hopefully the band will stop on a Hat Trick hero a Great Twist.

    ok guys, here's my dilemma!

should i take ronaldo's 12 points as captain, considering that if i twist to

    Gomez/Schwein/Hummels/Neuer

I am left with a get out clause of

    Alba/Gerrard/Abate/Iniesta/Lescott?

    is it worth the risk?

      Twist.

Worst case scenario is a loss of 4pts (assuming no red card) and best case scenario is a gain of up anything up to 10pts or so really.

If you're considering switching to Hummels or Neuer you might be better to just stick 🙂 . That would be gambling 4 points for a potential gain of 1.

You definately have plenty of back up there

stick, but why would you come into the knockouts with those 2. You are frittering away a precious FT on a GJ transfer and are likely to need to find 2 million to it.

Or I just go into the latter stages with no keeper, lose out on 3pts but have an extra two million in the bank.

Plus Cech, went up for the final assault... any keeper can save a penalty... any team can win at this stage...

I'm probably going to twist for all those reasons. Might give me more reason to move the armband from Ronaldo too - hedge my bets in case the Germany offence falls on it's face...

Have you tried putting together your Semi-final team? You might want to give it a go and see if you have transfers to spare or not. 8 is quite a lot, so you may find it easier than you think

Well, I know that I've got the spread of players to be able to get a full 15 whichever teams go out, but it will depend on who goes through as to whether any of us can afford to get the team we want together.

It's a fair point that a transfer for a keeper might seem wasteful, but actually I think cheap keepers are justified much more than cheap outfield players like Maniatis or whoever.

It gonna be tough to field 11 playing players at this rate. Maybe cut your losses now and sell any Czech 5mil+ players for a Greek 4 mil ? If I did that I'd end up with only 10 players but 1.2 mill more to spend on them.

Yeah, for me i'm starting to get concerned about what sort of a first 11 i'll be able to field come final time.... If the greeks go out, I don't think there is much on the market at the 4 mil mark, and that extra cash is useful for the big guns in the big games. Indeed. one day to decide.

Just posted on this above - I already have 4 4mil players and am considering selling Pilar for the one remaining Greek 4. Leaves me with only 10 possible players but 1.2 mill more to spend.
Like to hear what others think...

I have personally just done it, 4 players at ~4mil, butland, two greeks and oliviera (who could be a cheeky punt considering tonights injury to Postiga)

I'll see how the remaining games go, but I want to go for select picks for big points. I think thats the angle for this game. One captain peformance can really carry a team along with some clean sheets, at least for success in my ML (which is not quite at the higher echelons of some of the players on these boards, for sure)

this why I'm glad i got Darida in today. 3 4 million outfielders and a 4 million keeper = no need to waste precious Fts on frivolous transfers on eliminated players. I can focus on using my FTs on players I will need.

But in your case, yes do it

A lot less, but I have Navas and Olivera in the first who both are major risks and thus I count towards my bench count. As I said, it depends on your strategy.

Has everyone lost their marbles? I can understand the potential of swapping captaincy of a goalscorer in the group stage but in tight knock out rounds?!

Can anyone realistically see Italy, Spain, France or England scoring 2 goals or more? I am sure most of is can rule England and France out of this as a realistic possibility. Italy are also unlikely in a tight group and question marks remain over who will play up front (the same is true with Spain).

So we are left with Germany against Greece and Gomez. Well we know that Greece will go all out for defence. So Ronaldo holders transferring to Gomez realistically comes down to one thing. Which of these is Gomez more likely to do...score 0 or 2 goals. Look at any odds he is more likely to not score than to score 2 (Yes I know assists blur it a little).

So why gamble? Many will and there is a decent chance that they will live to regret it. Keep the points and watch the others sweat...the odds are with you!

The back 5 are all his teammates except Pique who he knows very well from the derbies so he knows how to get the better of them and I think he could be a real threat against Spain. And if it's France he is up against even better.
