After back-to-back goalless draws, we’ll be hoping for a little more entertainment tonight as Germany square up to Italy for the right to meet Spain in Sunday’s final. As always, we’ve opened up the Dugout Discussion ahead of this evening’s match.:

The team news is now in and is as follows:

Joachim Low makes three changes from the side that defeated Greece 4-2. Lukas Podolski and Mario Gomez both return after being dropped, though the inclusion of Toni Kroos in the starting XI is something of a surprise. Andre Schurrle, Miroslav Klose and Marco Reus all drop to the bench as a result.

Cesare Prandelli makes a single alteration to his starting XI. Giorgio Chiellini is fit after a thigh injury and returns to the side at left-back – this means Federico Balzaretti shifts over to the opposite flank in the back-four, with Ignazio Abate the man to lose his place.

Germany XI: Neuer; Boateng, Hummels, Badstuber, Lahm; Khedira, Schweinsteiger; Kroos, Özil, Podolski; Gomez

Italy XI: Buffon; Balzaretti, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Marchisio, Pirlo, De Rossi; Montolivo; Balotelli,Cassano.

        I would go for Gomez over Ozil I think, thanks everyone! I was leaning towards a defensive option but think Im gonna go for Gomez in the end 🙂

    Long story short, missed the deadline and have Joao Pereira on the bench (6 points). Currently have Abate in the lineup. If he doesn't play, auto sub will give me the 6 points...assuming I don't change my captain from CRon (2pts X 2 = 4pts).
    Should I change my captain to (Gomez, Khedira, Pirlo or Boateng)?
    Or let autosub bring in Pereira (6pts)?

      I think you should let auto sub do its business, you would need Gomez or Khedira etc to score 5 to break even with your current score which is a risk

      To clarify. If I captain Gomez and he scores a goal, I get 2x6 = 12 pts - 2 pts from CRon = 10 pts.
      If I stick (and Abate doesn't come on), I get Gomez 6 + Pereira 6 = 12 pts.

    According to Hansi Flick of the German FAs coaching team: "The lineup changes are tactical. We want to control the midfield. We expect Kroos to win challenges and start quick transitions."

    (And before anyone asks, no, I didn't know what the German line-up was going to be. I had a sneaking suspicion that Kroos might feature, but had nothing to base it on.)

        Gomez has the higher potential - when Gomez plays, Gomez scores - Other option is Hummels - everyone backed him their last game, watch him pull through with a goal in this game - mark this post.

    I've gone with Ozil because he looked sharp last time out and I think he'll play the full 90.

    I also think Gomez will be subbed for Klose at some point...
