Earlier this afternoon, Spurs confirmed they have reached agreement with Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim for the transfer of Gylfi Sigurdsson. The news comes just one day after announcing the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas as new Head Coach and represents an intriguing piece of business for Fantasy managers ahead of the upcoming season:

The Icelandic star had excelled during his loan spell at Swansea last term – arriving in January, Sigurdsson had thrived in Brendan Rodgers’ 4-3-3 and ended the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) campaign with an average of 5.7 points per game; the highest of any midfielder. Many had expected him to follow Rodgers to Liverpool but Spurs have beaten the Reds to the punch and backed up the claims of Chairman Daniel Levy, who only yesterday stated:

It is important that we now look to develop the potential within the squads at all levels, whilst strengthening the First Team in the summer in key positions with players who will become part of the future success of the Club.

While doubts remain over the future of Luka Modric under the new regime, the Sigurdsson move presents Fantasy managers with a real quandary for the season ahead. The new boy now gives us a third viable contender to consider in the Tottenham midfield, with Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart both proven Fantasy forces. Sigurdsson is likely to be the least costly of the three, though, suggesting he may well prove the most popular but, with Villas-Boas’ side facing (WBA, NOR, rdg, QPR) between Gameweeks 2-5, many could opt to double up in light of such a favourable opening run.

For now, then, this is just a brief heads-up – we’ll have a further Moving Target article on his prospects to follow tomorrow.

I heard the uprising of TMR's or something..... 😛

can't really judge that team as its incomplete u haven't even mentioned squad fillers' team....but basically as i see u have chelsea and city and just squad fillers.....

I can see u wanting to change players like Nzog or Fabio incase of awful play or red cards or something......plus u'd also need to get rid of chelsea players prior to GW 3 i'm guessin so might get tricky....
U might wanna tweak that a bit more....would suggest to wait for the actual thing to start... 😀

Siggy the cheapest of Bale and Van der Vaart. I'm thinking hemust be 8.5 - 9.0 now. Since Bale and VDV will come in about 9.5/10.0

"Snap up Sigurdsson"? It's been dragging on for weeks. Still, very interesting.

I'm hoping the main players in prem teams due to go abroad don't go before the FPL prices are out. Which should give us slightly better early prices on the 2nd choice men in the team.

I can't see myself getting Sigurdsson unless he is much cheaper than we are expecting.

Where is he going to play?

He's not really a Modric type player and if he won't dislodge VDV from playing behind the striker. VDV also dominates set pieces so although Sig will get the odd one, he won't get many.

Will be overpriced and not nailed on, imo.

VDV left foot free kick, Sigurdsson right. Presumably with corners too. IMO, though it'll be one or the other on set pieces each game as I think they'll rotate with each other. Ill probably end up going with Bale as a safer option but more expensive.

I would rather Div 3 over Div 1 because if the same thing happened t oDundee Utd or Motherwell we wouldnt be having this debate, they would be in DIv3 straight away. Fro years we are told that the SFA and SPL do everything to accomodate Rangers and Celtic, its not fair and comletely quashes sporting integrity. I cannot be ars*d with after all the sh*te we've through in the last few months w eget "oh Rangers are always the exception, the SFA are bias" They should stick to whats right.

If Rangers were to work their way up from Div 3 then every single club in the Scottish league would get a financial boost.

Don't like seeing it happen as Rangers are massive in the context of Scottish Football. But they have to be punished for the way they conducted themselves under Murray's reign. Can't believe a guy who supposedly loved the club was so ignorant to the way things were being run behind the scenes. And then to sell the club and jump ship just as the shit hit the fan was pretty cowardly.

I really dislike the SPL with or without Rangers as the standard has been getting progressively worse over the years. Shocking attedences outside Ibrox and Celtic Park, poor standard of football and just very little interest in the game. Rangers need to be punished and work their way back like Juventus had to and the SPL can continue to be average in their absence.

The smaller clubs will no doubt struggle more with a lack of TV revenue with both Old Firm clubs but that's just the way it goes. Scotland need to invest solely in youth development and bring through some real talent and make Scotland a place where top players are once again produced while strengthening the National team. No more wasting money on average foreign players on silly wages and put the money back in the game.

I can't speak for KoL specifically but I know a lot of Gers fans want Div3 to out of revenge on the rest of the SPL. If they go to Div1 they'll more than likely be up again next season so SKY will maintain its TV money. If they go to Div 3 then the money next season will be lower, hitting the rest of the SPL clubs hard.

I'm a Dundee United fan and I want them in Div3, having said that. I like how a lot of Rangers fans are saying stuff along the lines of 'well done for killing Scottish Football'. Scottish football has been dead for about 20 years now, it's just the Old Form were too blinker to realise/too selfish to do anything about it. HMRC have thankfully forced change upon Scottish football. It is true that some smaller SPL clubs may themselves go bust in the fallout of this (including my club), but I feel it's worth the risk in the attempt to rejuvenate what is, and has been all my life, a dire state of affairs.

It's people like KoL who you feel for. Genuine fans who only have the interests of the club at heart and the majority who are suffering for the actions of a minority. It would be a disaster if Rangers ceased to exist. Would hate that to happen. But take the punishments on the chin, work their way back up, restore integrity and then start building the club up again.

I'd bloody love it if the SPL clubs all just concentrated on Scottish players. It's sad seeing a country with as much heritage and influence in establishing the game having such a dross National Team.

Our U-21's etc have a lot of talent at present however, (not that you'd guess by our representation in Team GB!!!!) so perhaps in 5 years or so we'll be back to respectability.

Manchester United fans have cause for concern but should not panic:
the word "indebtedness" appears 43 times in the papers
Our indebtedness could adversely affect our financial health and competitive position
Our indebtedness increases the risk that we may be unable to generate cash sufficient to pay amounts due in respect of our indebtedness. It could also have effects on our business

        Yep, deep doo doo.

"United's debt, loaded on in 2005 for nothing more constructive than the Glazers' takeover itself, remains a sorry £423m burden, even after the club has paid out more than £500m interest, bankers' fees and charges, to service it. Now the Glazers have hit on their preferred solution: find other people prepared to pay some of it off, while the family remains in complete control".

It's almost beyond words. £500m - they could have bought 14.28 Andy Carrolls for that!

Coleman and Adam aren't very good players though. Coleman got most of his points from being OOP rather than his attacking returns. Adam got a lot of his from an amazing run of penalties and a BP system that no longer exists (coupled with a lack of injury that season). Adam also produced a decent number of assists last term but without regular pens and a BP system that no longer favoured him he dropped off.

Sigurdsson on the other hand is a natural goal scorer and has amazing shot accuracy - in that respect he reminds me of VdV and Lampard who are fantasy gold. Dempsey would be good example (ignoring the shot accuracy remark) he's gone from a cheap player to a dear player but each time has been worth it.

The main thing going in Siggy's favour(and us in FPL terms) is that he only played for half a season and his ownership wasn't that high.

I really don't think he'll come in at a similar price to Adam's price last year. I'm thinking more along the lines of Modric and 7.5m.

You honestly think he'll be 9.5/10m? Because that is what Bale will be.

I'll only go for Siggy if he's significantly lower - especially as there is the Chelsea DGW to consider.

I do. Siggy's a goalscoring midfielder, like Bale - playing for the same team with similar PPG last season. I'd be very surprised if there was a significant difference in price. Maybe .5, but that's it, in my opinion.

    RDM backs AVB 😛

Speaking at his first pre-season press conference, Roberto Di Matteo sent his best wishes to his former boss.

Villas-Boas was considered a failure at Stamford Bridge, where he was eventually sacked in March.
Di Matteo stepped up from his No 2 role to take the temporary reins - and incredibly guided them to Champions League and FA Cup glory.

While Villas-Boas is now in charge across London at Spurs, Di Matteo is looking forward to the new season with Chelsea after signing a two-year deal last month.

The Italian said: 'I wish him the best of luck. He's a very good manager and I'm sure he'll be a success at Spurs.'
'It doesn't surprise me (that he has been appointed). I think it's a good choice.'

Maybe on paper AVB has a better philosophy on the game but can he put it into practice like he did at Porto? RDM is much more of a man manager and a player motivator. It's difficult to make up for that in other ways. AVB is more or an ego and more about self than team so he needs to invest more time in his players and not just himself.

If Spurs sell VDV and don't buy Ade then they won't have many big mouths in the team to cause AVB trouble. Another plus is that he is not on a mission to regenerate an old squad like at Chelsea (bench Lamps and other power players), he will have more support from his team I feel.

Never realised Seedorf signed for Botafogo. He wants to enjoy a bit of Brazilian sunshine and set up a base for the World Cup in 2 years time.

It's not about the money, money, money,
We don't need your money, money, money.
We just wanna make the world dance,
        Forget about the price tag.
        Ain't about the (ha!) cha-ching cha-ching.
        Ain't about the (yeah!) ba-bling ba-bling,

Brazilian teams are starting to pick up in wages. Malouda has been linked with Vasco da Gama too. They can also keep stars like Neymar and Ganso for a bit longer than usual.
